Hello, my Macbook Pro 13.5'', version 10.9.2, was recently invaded by what I believe is a virus, and when I open a new tab or window on chrome it would open with the Trovi search engine.

I read online to reset the default settings on chrome and when i did that the problem seemed to all but go away. But then, not even an hour later, i notice that there are random ads that popup and sometimes ads will just open in new tabs. I know that this is a virus and i really want to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that you are getting a 404 message when you access a website from a Mac, not a PC.
First check the cache for the site:
Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using '''one''' of the following steps:
*Hold down the ''Shift'' key and click the ''Reload'' button with a left click.
OR
*Press ''Command'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Mac)
Second try to [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer]]

What do you mean by having no access to those apps? Can you start up your Mac and work with it, and only some OS X apps do not work?
Anyway, what you can try is to reinstall OS X. To do this, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up and reinstall OS X. You will not lose any file.

When I click, type or use the File menu or try right-clicking mouse to open a new tab, nothing happens. However I am able to open links in a new tab.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Evidently something in that extension isn't compatible with a Firefox security fix. Disable that extension or un-install it.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Bookmark 'Open in new Tab' or 'Window' doesn't on this latest install

Right clicking on a bookmark, allows me to open link in a new tab or window.... this works for the first while, but then breaks down and doesn't open anything. I keep getting redirects if I click on a link. If I click the same link with open in new tab or window it opens fine.

I get redirects always in current open page. If I click a link and say open in new tab or new window it does not redirect. I've noticed explorer is now advertising built in software to eliminate someone hijacking their browser. If I have to keep searching for tools to clean registry's and browser issues -- I may have to switch back to Explorer or Chrome. Lately my Firefox which I'm most used to is driving me nuts... When I click on a website, whether it be after doing a search to open a site or when I hit enter after entering a password or even just click on next to go to the next page, mozilla pops up a new tab or window with an advertisement in it. It has been doing this for several weeks now. I have tried running antivirus software and it hasn't helped.

Minimize button doesnt work with mouse right button after openning a new tab in windows 8.1 with firefox nightly

I'am using Mozilla firefox nightly version in Windows 8.1 .... after starting the Mozilla all toolbar options, minimize, maximum buttons works fine. but as soon as i open a new tabe the (minimize, maximize, close) options do not work with mouse left button clicking. I have to click taskbar "nightly icon" to minimize or close the browser.

Currently Nightly is not a supported version and is changing each day, however please also to not be discouraged to try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to make sure it is not an add on as well as file a bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org.

How do I change the default page that appears when I open a new tab or window?

I downloaded a program (Babylon) to translate text. After trying it out, I removed the program using their uninstall and then the add/remove functionality within windows. Nevertheless, remnants remain. When I attempt to open a new tab in Firefox (and IE for that matter), I get the Babylon Search page. In Chrome, when I changed the homepage, it eliminated the issue when opening a new tab. How do I establish a new default page when I open a new tab?

Firefox does not default to your homepage when you manually open a new tab. It should do so.
Is there a way to make FF do this? Is it an addon? If so, should this not be default behavior and just be incorporated into the browser?

When opening a new tab, Firefox often freezes for a few seconds until the page has loaded completely.

When I open a new tab, the tab must load completely before Firefox will respond at all. I cannot do anything in Firefox; Windows and the rest of my programs that are running are unaffected. This happens randomly, but it is more common on certain websites. How do I fix this?
