The MBA seems to cause several problems to several users on boot ups
On start up my MBA would not boot up the apple logo came on but only a blank screen appeared no fan i followed several start up recommendations but to no avail so I  took the MBA to the nearest Apple repair centre again the same symptoms on start up ......very sorry sir you need a new mother board that will be $500 not feeling confidant in the product declined and was going to put it on ebay for spares.
On return home I pressed the start up button and it started normally everything was working fine i decided to reinstall all the software what has caused the problem I have no idea but it is after several attempted reboots it finally started on its own so don't give up if you have this problem it may come to life

My 6th Generation Nano Shuts down my Thinkpad, I've tried uninstalling iTunes, turning off auto sync'ing and restoring my ipod, but every time I plug in my iPod, my whole pc goes blue and then reboots in safe mode. Please Help. Thanks.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • My firefox wont open, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it and it still doesnt work. It wont open so I can't change anything in safe mode. Please help :(

I used to have at&t internet, dont know what this has to do with it but it's weird that as soon as I switched over to comcast internet my firefox completely stopped working -__- I try to open it and it loads but the page never comes up. Someone please help me, I dont want to lose my bookmarks and passwords..

Another way to start into Safe Mode is to hold the Shift key when double-clicking the Firefox icon.
If you have tried to start multiple times, you might have a frozen Firefox process in memory. To terminate that (I'm assuming Windows) open the Task Manager using Ctrl+Shift+Esc, click into the Processes tab, and look for firefox.exe. If you find it, highlight it and click End Process to kill it. Alternately, restarting Windows will clear it.
Any luck starting in Safe Mode?
Did you install any software from Comcast?

  • IMac won't boot to install disk, normally or in safe mode! Please help

    Hi everyone,
I'm using my iPhone so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors.
    I have a 27" quad-core iMac bought about a year ago.
Today I went to reformat the harddrive as I'm selling the machine to a friend. First the iMac would not boot to the install disk - it just gets stuck on the apple logo screen, but with no spinning wheel - now it won't even start up normally! I've attempted to start up in safe-mode but again it gets stuck on the apple screen and there's a strange clicking noise, which sounded like it was coming from the cd drive area.
It's a shame this happened today, right before I was supposed to give the computer to it's new owner. I really don't want them to think I was trying to sell them a computer with problems.
I've tried a basic hardware test and it came back with no problems.
    Can anyone help?

Try using the original Install Disc that came with the machine, do not try any other DVD. Put it in the SuperDrive, while holding down the power button also hold down the Option button on the keyboard. It should start and give you the option of starting from either the internal HD or the Install Disc. Choose the Install Disc, select the language, choose the Utilities Menu, Disk Utility, then select the internal HD, select the Erase tab and set it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click erase. Then exit Disk Utility and continue with the install process to reload OS X.

  • I have Windows 7 Professional; Firefox stopped working; click on the icon and the circle spins; can't get into Firefox at all, even in safe mode. Please help.

    Windows 7 Professional
    Windows Security Essentials
I clicked on the Firefox icon. The cursor changed from an arrow to a spinning wheel. Nothing happened. It stayed that way for 20 minutes until I went into the task manager and shut the program down.
I'm forced to use Internet Explorer and it's awful. Please help me.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Can I back up iTunes in safe mode? Please help!!!!!

My windows vista laptop is about to die and I can only access it from safe mode. I want to back up my iTunes library but it's empty in iTunes when I access it in this mode. It's all still there because the disk drive is still full. Can I back up my library from folders and files through documents and not through iTunes itself? Many thanks.

Normally in C:\Users\<User>\Music. Unless already backed up via other means you should probably backup each <User> folder in C:\Users at a minimum so that you can selectively restore the data later,

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • I can't lock Firefox into safe mode on You Tube.

I use Firefox 24 and have followed all the directions given to me by You Tube in order to lock the website into safe mode on the firefox browser. It works until I close firefox. Once I open it again it doesn't remember the setting and goes back to normal mode. It is supposed to be locked in for that browser until someone logs in under my google account and changes it back. I can lock it in Chrome and IE with no problems. I am about uninstall FIrefox...please help!

Hello Ammonthomas, if you started Firefox in Safe Mode, it will remain in Safe Mode until Firefox is completely closed.
i think an option is to make the site you want (You Tube) one (or the only) homepage and set firefox shortcut to open in safe mode : right-click the firefox shortcut > properties > target > change the target to : "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
'''BUT''' firefox with that, always start in safe mode (you lose the normal mode) !!!!
why do you want to run You Tube in safe mode ?
where is the you tube video to lock the site in safe mode ?
    thank you

  • How to boot your phone into safe mode

If you experience any problem with your phone, booting it into safe mode can be a good idea to check if any third party applications might be involved in the problem you’re having.
If you run your phone in safe mode for a while and you don’t experience any problem, the problem you’re having is most likely related to a third party app that you’ve installed.
How to boot into safe mode differ from models to model and it can also be different depending on firmware version but this topic will explain to you how to do it.
    NOTE!
Booting into safe mode may change personal UI customizations such as icons and folders.
Later Xperia phones running on Android Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 or later)
Press and hold the on/off key until you get this screen.
Now tap and hold the Power off option until you see this screen.
Press OK to reboot into safe mode.
If you have successfully booted into safe mode you will see the text Safe mode in the bottom left corner.
You can also boot into safe mode by turning off the phone and wait a few seconds. Now press and hold both the on/off and volume down (-) key. Keep pressing these two keys until the phone has booted completely.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
Xperia phones using touch menu key running on Android GB (2.3.X) or ICS (4.0.X)
Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn it on again. Now during the boot process start tapping the menu key continuously and keep tapping until the phone has booted completely. Not too fast, not too slow. The beat of Iron man by Black Sabbath is just right.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
Xperia phones using hardware menu key
Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn in on again. Now during the boot process press and hold the menu key until the phone has booted completely.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.

  • ITunes causes VAIO laptops to go into Safe mode

Hi, when I open iTunes on my Sony Vaio laptop (Windows 7) everything on the screen changes appears to be in Safe mode.  Then it acts like its syncing with my iPod Touch but nothing gets downloaded - some music got removed from my Touch.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    - M

I have no problems, thankfully. I have Firefox on another computer and somehow FF went into "safe mode." I noticed that it ran faster, with no affect on what I do with the browser, which is nothing fancy. Therefore, I decided to put FF on this computer into "safe mode," too.
I had to ask how to do it because the instructions are not evident where mention of using it to fix problems occurs under 'help.' Why talk about using something without telling how to get to it. Very frustrating! Had it been done, I would not have had to bother folks here. Perhaps bring this omission to the attention of the "powers that be."

  • MacBook Air won't connect with TimeCapsule

I recently bought the new Time Capsule and for a while it was happily backing up both my and my wife's MacBook Airs. Then it stopped backing up my wife's computer. On investigation I find my wife's MacBook Air won't connect to the Time Capsule. When I try to select the Time Capsule as the back-up disk an error message appears: "There was a problem connecting to the server "John's AirPort Time Capsule"". I can see the Time Capsule in Finder on my wife's computer but when I click on "Connect As" I get the same error message. On my computer the Time Capsule appears in Finder as Connected, but disconnecting it doesn't make any difference to my wife's computer.
    Any help gratefully received.
    J

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.

Hi. Im using iTunes Match, but my iPhone storage is full of music. I haven't downloaded any songs into the device. Please help.

Go to Settings > General > Usage and tap Music (you may need to scroll down in the list). Swipe across "all music" and tap DELETE.
When streaming music from the cloud the Music app caches a temporary copy for later playback.

  • Won't boot into safe mode

My 2012 iMac 27" was randomly rebooting itself, while in Sleep. I assumed this was due to the cheap 32 GB memory I bought, but before I could change it back to the original memory, to test, the Mac booted into Safe Mode (I assume - a progress bar showing at the bottom of the boot screen, below the Apple logo), and did not get further than a half the way, and then shut down. I swapped the memory to the original 8GB. I tried booting again, no buttons held down, as then it wouldn't get further than a quarter of the way. Further attempts to boot do not work, even when holding down Option to choose the boot disk, pressing Shift for Safe Mode, or Option-S for Single User Mode. I assume it's trying to boot in Safe Mode, but failing?
I also tried using a good Mac with the bad Mac as the Target Disk boot mode - the good Mac does not see the bad Mac...
I have an external DVD drive, but that isn't an option as I can't go into boot drive select mode. What are my options, apart from sending the iMac back?

Booting into the Recovery HD should allow you to effect repairs - that's the point of it, so it's a bit concerning that it won't allow you to. The Recovery HD is a partition on the internal drive that should allow you to effect repairs to the Macintosh HD, albeit part of the same physical disk.
I'm no expert, but I'd be concerned that the hard disk is on the way out. Do you have backup of everything - Time Machine or a bootable clone, perhaps?
Maybe have another try with Command+r. If it fails I'm not sure what would be the best next step - it depends if you have a full and up-to-date backup of your disk so that you can restore.
One of the options of the Recovery HD is to allow you to re-install the OS, which won't delete your data.
The more extreme step would be Internet Recovery which would involve erasing everything and re-installing via the internet.
Worth reading this carefully before proceeding: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Disk Warrior from Alsoft (not cheap) is another possibility for recovering damaged disks, although it's not a guaranteed solution.

  • Unable to boot into safe mode with FileVault 2 enabled

I was trying to boot into safe mode earlier to try and fix a few things. It looks like I can't and I suspect it is because of FV2.
When the system starts I press shift after the tone, but then I have to release shift and enter the password and then Lion will only boot into normal mode.
I've also tried with sudo nvram boot-args="-x" from the terminal, but while it seesm that this way Lion starts to boot into safe mode, after a while it just restarts as if something crashed etc and then again, I have to enter the password for FV and all again as in a loop, i.e. Lion won't even start this way.
So I went into the recovery mode and I could make Lion start again at least in normale mode with sudo nvram boot-args="".
Any idea of what could be preventing Lion from entering safe mode?
    Thanks in advance

The symptom may be unrelated to FileVault 2. I encountered the symptom with FileVault 2 disabled and with backward conversion (decryption) complete.
Apple reference for my bug report: 152162960. If the symptoms on your Mac compare to those on mine: progress may seem to cease during safe fsck.
Vito, as you are comfortable with the nvram command, please try the following:
    sudo nvram boot-args="-v -x"
Restart the computer and note the last verbose lines that appear before you sense that progress has ceased. Then please add a note of those lines to this topic.
    Additional questions
    What model is your Mac?
What type of disk for the startup volume?
How many files on that volume?
Approximately how large are the attributes file and catalog file? (You might gain this information with a demo version of iDefrag.)
    My current envronment
    MacBookPro5,2
    8 GB memory
startup from internal 320 GB rotational disk, Serial-ATA, Hitachi HTS723232L9SA62 (probably Travelstar 7K320)
    3,961,791 files
495,744 folders /* not including the root folder */
catalog file 3.0 GB, not fragmented
attributes file 2.2 GB, not fragmented.

  • Mac Pro won't boot into safe mode

I tried to boot into safe mode by using the keyboard key and the progress bar got a little bit of the way across but then it got stuck and sat there for 2 days with no change. Any idea why no safe mode?  Here's a photo of the screen how it sat for 2 days:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/23232804/no%20safe%20mode.JPG

Here's the few lines right around the boot attempt:  at 1pm on 12/31 I tried to boot into Safe mode, then seeing that it was taking forever, I left, and came back on 1/2. It was in exactly the same spot so I rebooted normally. Does this give any clues?
