Help connecting Audigy 2 ZS to home receiver through I/O mod

I have a Sound Blaster 2 ZS and I'm having problems trying to connect it to my home a/v receiver. Plugged into my digital out on my card I have the Sound Blaster I/O module then I have a digital coaxial cable from that to my receiver (Yamaha RX-V86). I enabled "digital only" and I haven't heard a sound. I haven't noticed the optical red lights lighting up either. Any suggestions?
If this setup is not going to work, how else can I connect these components?

I would use optical connection if both devices supports it.
Have you enabled the S/PDIF output in Creative Audio Control Panel and set the decoding to be done by the external device (pass through mode). Audio Control Panel comes with the driver installation and needs to be installed separately. Earlier version is called as CT Panel and can be found from earlier/installed driver sets (try look ctpanel.exe from C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy2Zs\Program\WDM\COMMON as for an example).

  • Help connecting Audigy 2 to digital speakers

    Hi!
    I have an SB Audigy 2 card (SB0240) and want to connect it to my Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers. (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...CONTENTID=9486)
    This digital 5. speakers support a number of <SPAN>simultaneous connections like optical digital, coaxial digital, 6 channel direct (the one I'm using now) analog, and a couple other analog and stereo ones.
    Now, I'm kinda hating the fact that I paid that much to get digital speakers so I can connect by analog to them!!!
    I went out to try and buy a coaxial digital cable to hook it up to the digital out of the Audigy 2 to the digital in of my speakers. Went to Radioshack first but they didn't really know how to handle it. Checked out CompUSA with the same luck. I stoped by BestBuy which had a huge collection of audio cables but none that matched my needs. Or so I think. I wasn't very happy getting home empty-handed.:angry:
    According to the Knoledge Base (<A href="]http://ask.americas.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=850,E=0000000000036399263,K=764,Sxi=0,Question 3969=obj(3969)bj(397[/url])) that I just checked out, I need a /8" mini plug to RCA converter cable. And that a mono or stereo one could be used.
    Is this correct? And WHERE DO I GET THAT CABLE?
    Please someone help me as soon as you can!
    Thanks in advance!

    Actually I bought an adapter and a cable. To my knowledge, Radio Shack doesn't have a cable with a mono /8" miniplug on one end and an RCA jack on the other (at least I didn't see one).
    So I bought the adapter which is a male /8" mono miniplug on one end and the female RCA on the other. Then just get a digital coax cable with RCA jacks on both ends.
    Just remember to also set the DVD software right to use digital. On mine I had spdif as an option along with all the other speaker options (2 spk, 4 spk, 6 spk, etc). Selecting this automatically disabled all the other software decoding options that were there. Dunno how it is with your DVD software.
    Then also remember to select whatever sound options the DVD movie itself has. If you don't have the DVD in yet and hit the coax button on the Z-5500, it will still read "no digital data". When the movie is then inserted and sound starts to play, the Z-5500 will switch to digital - stereo. Then when selecting the sound options on the DVD, and starting the movie, the Z-5500 will again switch to whatever was chosen (or whatever the movie plays in if there were no audio options) by itself (ie: Dolby Digital or DTS). Yes, I have played some movies with DTS. All of them don't have that. Most all have Dolby Digital. I haven't played enough movies yet to determine which is better, though I hear most like DTS better. All I know at this point is they both sound great!
    Believe it or not, I had never watched a movie with 5. sound before (other than theaters) because I never had the setup. A whole new experience.
    Also you can get the sound in DVD movies through all the speakers in analog too using the Pro Logic option but it's not quite the same, and you don't get the Dolby or DTS.
    For mp3s I still use analog with the "PL II Music" effect (to get use of the center channel) and it sounds great.
    For games I also use analog, just selecting 6 ch direct if the game has 5.. Also sounds great. You can also use the "Pro Logic II" setting if the game does not have 5. to get the sound mixed through all the speakers. Makes me want to play all my games again. EAX also only works in analog.
    As far as your software. Creative has an auto update now just like Windows Update. You can go on and it will scan your system and tell you what drivers you need and then give you the option to download what you want. It downloads and installs it just like the Windows Update does. I like it a lot.
    http://us.creative.com/support/downl...dDspLangID=033
    Finding that option to disable the Audigy 2 decoder, just go to "Audio HQ". In that box is "Device Controls". Hit the "Decoder" tab and you will see the "spdif passthrough" box to check. As I said before, no need to check the box for "digital out only" in the "Creative Speaker Settings". You can switch back and forth just using the Z-5500 Control Center.
    All I can say is I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS! ! ! Especially now that I've gotten everything working right. I had been contemplating getting these speakers since they came out. I had previously the Logitech Z560s. I thought those sounded great too (4.). I got a Christmas bonus at work and said, "what the hell, I'm going to buy myself a Christmas present". Gawd dam, I'm sure glad I did! My wife doesn't like it too much, with her "turn that crap down" comments. Heh heh. At least I have an office in my garage so I have some sound buffer room to play. I heard a funny review of these speakers once with comments like, "the whole neighborhood is going to hate your guts but you will love them".

  • Need help connecting my iMac to my receiver

    I recently bought this product http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/RCA-mini-spdif.html
    the 3.5mm mini to digital coax. I bought it so I could hook up my iMac (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86810) to my receiver. However, I connected it, and no sound came out. On my receiver I kept switching the signal from analog to digital, to see if that would do the trick, but no luck. So then I tried connecting the 3.5mm to my iPod to see if it was just my computer that wasn't compatible, but that didn't work either. Did I pick the wrong cable? Or could it be defective? My coaxial cable for my DVD player works fine by the way

    Which iMac do you have? I have the iShight iMac whaich does have a digital out in the form of a mini optical out (through the output jack), you need to get an optical cable with a mini adaper at one end and make sure you select optical rather than coaxical on your reciver if you can...
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/6064041/wo/ER1qnhGv8blL2pY4F IK1iFRH2Zb/3.PSLID?mco=CC849D81&nplm=TF331
    Apple has a good cable in the store, its the one I use. If its surround sound you will need to changed a pref in DVD player to let the sound pass through to the reciver to be decoded in DTS or Dolby Digital
    All that is assuming you want a digital connection and have an optical in on your amp, otherwise I look silly but you did say you bought a digital cable.

    Ok, forgive me if I sound confusing, but I am confused.
    Here is what I want to do:
    Connect my Protron 5. surround system to my media center PC. The surround system is a DVD player that connects to a sub, which the speakers plug into. Here is a picture in case I confued some of you.
    <IMG src="http://www.geocities.com/nish4x/stereo.JPG">
    How exactly can I hook this surround system up to my PC? I dont need the DVD player, but I am guessing I need it to connect that to my PC in order for the 5. to work?Message Edited by Nish4x on 0-09-2006 02:26 PM

    You need 6 rca cables and an 3 3.5mm stereo to rca adapters.
    I suggest you get the rca adpaters from www.impactacoustics.com or wherever you get
    the cables to go branded items (they sell their items to dealers under the brand name "cables to go").
    For the rca cables www.monoprice.com sells excellent ones for cheap prices, look for the 75 ohm subwoofer cables,
    or 75 ohm rca cables.
    Connect the 3 adapters to your sounc card and then route the rca plugs into the sound system. Since I also have the audigy 2 zs, which I like the
    fact that you have a lot of room to manuever, just plug the rca adapters into the center, green, and black and then put the rca cables into the dvd player. You may need to use the thx setup console to test to see if you plugged in the rca channels to the right ones into the sound system, ie did you put the white rca cable into the front left channel rather than the front right.
    Happy hooking it up. If you need more advice, private message me or respond to this forum, be aware thogh with a lot of topics, your forum can get lost/

    I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling.  I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working.  I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
    My network consists of 4  base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords.  I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn.  The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up.  Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
    However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address.  When the AEBS is set to  bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
    I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS.  I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS.  In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding.  However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
    I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope.  What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
    I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have.  I've hit the wall with what I know.
    Thanks.

    In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
    So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
    If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

  • Humm when connecting Audigy 2 ZS to home ster

    I'm connecting an Audigy 2 ZS to a home stereo. I'm using a /8 stereo-to-RCA in jack to hook up to the L and R on my home stereo receiver.
    While I *am* getting sound, there is a serious humm, and the sound isn't as loud as I would have expected.
    The receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX, and I've got the SB hooked up to the CD in connection (the dvd/cd player is hooked up elsewhere).
    Why am I getting such horrible humm? I don't get this when I use the PC in my office using the Yamaha powered speakers.

    Are you trying to connect Analog (2 way stereo) OutPut signal (from Audigy) to Digital-InPut (CD/DVD input) channel (on Pioneer)? Try to connect those R/L (RCA) to AV Input (stereo).
    From VSX-45TX site - Connectivity:
    * RS-232
    * USB - Rear
    * Multi-Channel Input- All
    * Multi-Channel Outputs - All
    * Digital Input - 5 (2 coaxial, 3 optical w/front)
    * Digital Output - 2 optical
    * 6 Audio / 5 A/V Inputs (including Tuner) !!! ANALOG INPUTS
    * 2 Audio / 2 A/V / Video Output
    * Phono Input
    * S-Video - 5 In / 2 Out
    * Component Video In/Out
    * Front A/V Inputs
    * Banana Speaker Terminals
    * AC Outlet
    You can connect Audigy to Pioneer using digital or analog? Digital would be the best choice. RTFM (for both devices) to find out how these connections are done (which output on audigy and input on pioneer should be choosed with analog/digital. Shouldn't be hard reading.)

  • Need help connecting to my home Wireless Network

    I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.
    I've spent a few hours following the directions I found on the manuals through hp.com and I've had no luck. I've already unistalled and reinstalled the printer. I've also updated the firmware. If anyone can provide assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

    This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

    Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
    My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP

    For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.

    In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

    The two things to try first are renewing your network lease, forgetting the network and if that doesn't work to reset all networks. You might have tried one of these but I'll repeat the steps just to make sure.
    Settings > Wi-Fi > tap the blue arrow to the right of your network name > Renew Lease
    If that doesn't work then
    Settings > Wi-Fi > tap the blue arrow to the right of your network name > Forget this Network
