HELP_ DEADLINE APPROACHING/Query on DATES??

Question

I am trying to put the presentTIME and the DATE into a certain program, so that when someone logs in to use the program the time and date can be sent to an Access database.
Someone helpfully suggested to use:
import java.util.*;
Calendar cal = new GregorianCalendar();
int day = cal.get( Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH );
Which when i system.out.println gives the correct day(17th!).
Does anyone know more about this "GregorianCalendar()"
so that the month and year can be printed out to check
if they are correct and how then will i get the present time??
Someone else suggested an alternative:
import java.util.Date;
Date d=new Date();
int day=d.getDay();
when i system.out.println the day, it prints out 1??
Is there any way of setting the day etc.. to the correct date today and how will i then get time??
Any help would be greatfully appreciated!

If you're going to update an access database then I assume you have a jdbc driver for it. Given that, you should use a java.sql.Timestamp object:
java.util.Date d = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Timestamp now = new java.sql.Timestamp(d.getTime());
String sql = "insert into accesstable values(?)";
PreparedStatement ps = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
ps.setTimestamp(1, now);
ps.executeUpdate();There are other ways to do that too. Look at the API doc for java.sql.PreparedStatement and the documentation for Access (I think there might be a timestamp datatype but that might just be SQLServer).
