I've been troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics that have been happening on my late 2013 27" iMac. I had upgraded the stock RAM with 32 GB of RAM from Crucial and in the past the only time I have had similar issues was because of faulty RAM. So I swapped in a new set of RAM, but the problems continued.
Initially the errors would happen sometime during the night when I was logged out and when I would log on in the morning I would get a "Sleep Wake Failure experienced a problem" and the machine had been rebooted. But in the past week I have had several instances where the machine would all of a sudden go to the gray screen and tell me the computer had to be rebooted because of a problem. I've read in other threads hat the panic log can sometimes be helpful to narrow down the problem, but I am clueless as to how to read the log.
If anyone can help me narrow the problem down or point me in a good direction I would be forever thankful. Very frustarting becasue we have two identical iMacs that are basically carbon copies of each other and we only have the issue on one. Here is the log from the last time it rebooted while working:

My next step is to swap back to original memory but those sticks are in another machine so I have to pull them from there. Initially the problem was only happening at night so I disabled the "Power Nap", as I was reading another thread that referenced similar problems to those that I was having. Everything was Ok after that for about a week and then it started up again. Either way it was not really a fix, but I was trying to see if there was any pattern.
But as I said above, next step is to swap back to original memory but I do not have access to that machine at the moment. -
Can anyone help to see what is going on with this ibook? Thanks, would appreciate it.

Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.0: Wed Oct 10 18:26:00 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.24.17~1/RELEASE_PPCThe problem is related to the graphics card. It could be a bad RAM module or it could be an actual problem with the graphics card or the graphics drivers or cache.
It may help if you try booting into safe mode to see if the problem ceases. If not try creating a new user account and logging into the new account to see if the problem ceases.
Try booting from your OS X installer disc. If no panic occurs then you may start looking at your system installation as a possible cause. Use a utility such as TinkerTool System to clear out all user and system caches. I would also include deleting the /System/Library/Extensions.mkext file. An immediate reboot should then be done. -

See if the panics stop. -
Hi all. I should have done this a month ago, but I didn't. Here's my story:
Mid April my Mid 2011 iMac started kernel panicing. It happens once or twice. Had it for a year without any issues. Came with 4GB of RAM and upgraded last October by adding 8 more Gigs. Machine worked flawlessly... until April 2012.
For the month of May I was getting a few KPs a week, nothing seemed to corrolate. Sometimes it was when the machine was hot playing a game on Steam, othertimes when I was using Chrome to watch YouTube.
I have two external hard drives that were daisy chained together using firewire 800. (Both OWC Mercury Elite Pros. [One dual bay, one single bay. One only a few months old.]) Thinking the drives might be part of the problem I connected them via USB, I tried connecting one drive and not the other. I tried disconnecting both drives. Still had kernel panics.
Did a complete reinstall of my system from scratch. Downloaded and installed only apps I needed. Within a day I had a kernel panic.
I tested some more with my drives. I would be fine for three days, plug a drive in, be good for another day or two and then have a kernel panic.
I surfed the forums and decided to try unhooking my USB (Freeman Everywhere Skype) headset. Still kernel paniced.
I've run memtest both from boot and in the terminal. I ran Apple's Hardware Test a few times.
I called Apple tech support and the guy there was not helpful. He suggested I do the things I already did... despite me telling him I had done them.
Finally today I took out the added RAM. I probably should have tried this sooner...
Anyway. I have seen a bunch of other people posting their crash reports. I've read up a little on how to decifer them, but I'm not an expert. So is anyone able to get anything out this?
I had my dual bay HD hooked up via firewire, nothing else was hooked up. (Save keyboard, mouse, and ethernet.)
Thanks for the help.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. -

As you said, your NVIDIA GPU is defective.
The link you gave tells you all the information about the problem and how to get it fixed. Basically you need to make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller.
This repair is free for MacBooks Pro purchased less than 3 years ago. However, some users have reported that Apple also repaired their Macs even if they were purchased more than 3 years ago -
Need assistance deciphering Kernel Panic Log
Been getting a few kernel panics on some brand new machines and I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having persistent hangs, crashes, or kernel panics, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful (apologies if you have already seen it):

:-( Help with kernel panic log, please!
I bought my iMac on December 26, so it's not even a month old. I had a kernel panic that night, but thought nothing of it. The next one came days later, on January 8. Then I had two more, both on the 11th. And then one more on the 13th, and again on the 16th. I've noticed no pattern in terms of what I was doing (I'm always just listening to music via iTunes and browsing the web). I'll post two of the logs--I have no idea how to read them!

Could someone please help me read this panic log?
Hi,
I have been trying to read all the past postings on reading panic logs. Most of them start of with something different, which refers to RAM. Its been almost a month now and I haven't had any problems until this evening. Here is what the log says...

I was working in Corel Painter, using a wacom tablet. Then I got a message to restart my computer. After 10 years of working on Macs, I have never experienced this. Thanks in advance to anyone that could help.Hi-
Your panic log pretty clearly states it's a problem with RAM:

Uncorrectable Fbd memory error detected.
What is your memory configuration? Presumably this is your Mac Pro? If you're comfortable working inside your computer, you could swap RAM cards around.
I did a Google search for the error quoted above and came up with a couple of hits. One from February has some good information on one person's experience, resulting eventually in a logic board replacement under warranty.

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your kbd & mouse. Do you experience the same problems? Do you have another mouse you could use?

Help needed in interpreting panic log from kernel panic error
My G4 iBook has started giving me kernel panic errors, often immediately after starting up. I haven't installed any new software or RAM recently. I've done a clean system install (completely clean - not an archive and install) then downloaded the combo update for 10.4.11. But the kernel panics are still happening from time to time. I've looked at the panic log, but it means nothing to me, so I'm hoping someone can help:

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
