HELP: How to implement Model Predictive Control in LabVIEW?

Hi, everyone
I have a problem on realizing model predictive control algorithm in LabVIEW 7.1.1.
What I have now is a linear model predictive control algorithm designed with Matlab -- Model Predictive Control Toolbox. Under simulation in SIMULINK, it works well.
Now I need to implement this algorithm with hardwares such as sensors and actuaors by LabVIEW. Initially, I try to use the NI Simulation Interface Toolkit (SIT) 2.0 connect the simulink module with my LabVIEW interface to get the model calculation out of matlab, then send them into LabVIEW. It failed, because SIT can only help me design a simulation interface in LabVIEW based on Matlab model. Not the parrallel working mode I need. I am wondering, does any people here have experience dealing with the similar problems?

With your suggestion, I tried LabVIEW simulation module. It seems the Model Predictive Control (MPC) block I developed in Matlab/SIMULINK cannot be supported by LabVIEW simulation translator.
The parrallel mode means I want to use the input from DAQ card as the input for MPC block (Basically, it is just a control algorithm with I/O), and I would like to use the output from MPC block as my actuator output to external device. However, when I use Simulation Interface Toolkit to import my MPC block from Matlab to LabVIEW. It is completely sealed. I mean I cannot pull the I/O ports out from this block in LabVIEW. That is the problem where I am now.
BTW: I found there is optimization function in Simulation module of LabVIEW. But Why I cannot find that function in my Simulation module (LabVIEW 7.1.1 + Simulation Module 1.0) ?
Do I need to upgrade my LabVIEW to 8.0, since I heard about several powerful math functions there. And I am hoping with these math tools, I could realize MPC by myself in LabVIEW.

How to emplement Model Predictive Control

Hi,
I have to controle a MIMO system whose model could change over time.
It's an 8dof robot with 8 actuators, and a sensor that gives 3d velocity, position, roation rate, and orientation.
Actually I'm using autotunnig PID, and considering my MIMO system like multiple SISO systems. It works correctly for some dof but not for others.
It seems that Model predictive control is the right way to do that.
What are the steps to emplement correctly a MPC?

Thank you very much Javi, I will try designing the MPC controller over the a linearized model and implement it on the nonlinear proccess. But I have a problem designing the controller with the linear model. I am using the example "CDEx MPC with Dual Constraints" to start working over it. So I just change each matrix (A,B,C,D) and the rest of the parameters (constraints, set point), but when I run it it doesn't works fine and it shows to me 2 control signals when the system just have one. Something similar occur with the outputs, according to the model I have 2 outputs but the chart only shows me 1. And the constarints seems to do nothing (umin = 0 - umax = 5e-4; ymin = [0;0]; ymax = [0.69;0.59]. I attach the file hoping you can help me please because I've been trying also on several examples for this state space model and having no result.
Please help me with this problem, because I do not have no where to ask.

Model predictive control (MPC) setup

Hi All,
the attached VI is the Model predictive control that I am trying to develop. I have three inputs (one manipulated and two measured disturbances). I have got my model from system identification. The model is discrete. I am just trying to tune it but could not do it properly. I am just wondering is there any problem with the model (as the D matrix is not zero, I have to make it zero for MPC or not? )or there is anything else wrong?. The limits on my inputs are; for input 1 it is from 0-210, for input 2 it is 10-60 and for input 3 it is 0-1500. The second and third inputs are measured disturbances so we can’t manipulate them in order to get the required output (I think we can set up this in weight matrix). The output has range of 20-60. I want my output to follow the refrence output for example 40, but it does not happpen....

I have attached a zip of a few of the stock examples which should be added when you install the Control Design and Simulation Module. Try navigating to "<root>\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2010\examples\Control and Simulation\Control Design\MPC" - there should be lots more examples there.
I'm not sure what problems there could be with your model. If you are using the System Identification Toolkit then there could be some issues in your code there, could you post that?

Well..that was quite helpful..but now I'm encountering certain problems. I've attached the VI I've made.
I don't need sound at the moment so I dropped it. (Although I tried to play it..but all I could hear was a very annoying sound.) Secondly I don't want to display any date or time..so i dropped that property too.
Now when I run this Vi...the webcam turns on, the screen of videocapx pops up..then the webcam light goes off..and another pop up appears saying..labview is not responding..and i have to close it reluctantly.
I haven't placed the stop capture property in this vi. i checked it by placing it too..but that doesn't work.
I would like to notify that my actual task is to acquire image and then compare it with another one already present on my pc. I want you to please help me out..solve my first query then I'll proceed with the latter part.

How to implement an ActiveX server in LabVIEW

My task is to implement an ActiveX server in LabVIEW 8.0 that will be called from a data management software (DXE).
The LV server will take care of data acquisition and control.
I have been looking for tutorials and example code at the NI developer zone and elsewhere without any progress. Information is either to general or code is to old (LV 5.1) to give any help.
Please, show me to a good example of an ActiveX server in LV 8 properly commented or with attached explanations.
Alternatively, suggest any tutorial, short course or books with practical instructions.
Specific information is most welcome.
I suppose that it is possible to write a ActiveX client in LabVIEW to verify the functions of the ActiveX server ?

While I did follow the link mentioned above and found the Interop.LabVIEW.dll that is included in the C# project for the purpose of calling VIs from C#, I am frustrated that these methods are 'buried' in a .dll that you have to go and find on the NI web site, and are not ActiveX methods that are available in an ActiveX Object that is installed when you install LV 8.20 PDS.
Rolf, I don't know that you will get this email, but are you refering to the methods inside of the Interop.LabVIEW.dll in what you are saying above, and if so, how did you become aware of this .dll?
Is anyone aware of any documentation for these ActiveX methods?

Need a help: how to recover using backup control file?

Please a help:
First computer
1. I create a database
2. put it in archive mode,
3. shutdown and made a cold backup
4. Created backup control file (alter database backup control file to trace)
5. I started up and created some archived log files.
Second Computer
1. I copied all files created in the step 3 above except the control file
2. I create all the same map directory on the 2nd computer as in the 1st computer
3. I recreate the control file from the script got in the step 4 above
4. I Copy archived log files generated at the step 5 in the local directory in the second computer
5. I set the logsource and set the autorecovery to on
6. I recover the database: RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROL FILE UNTIL CANCEL
Error got:
the archived log file applied do not go beyond the first one?,How could I do to applied all archived log files copied from the first computer to the second computer to have the same data?

How to implement ActiveX (OCX) Controls

1. You have to create ActiveX control item on your
canvas.
2. Use Program / Import library interfaces ... menu in your form builder to import the OLE interfaces to your application. this creates a package in you form where you can sepcify your PL/SQL code for OCX events.
With Dev 6i we could not make Forms to automatically load the OCX control, the user has to do it by using the context menu. At least this is the case for Winddows 2000.
Be carefull: OCX / ActiveX is not supported on the Web forms wether it is Forms 6i or 9i.

Help needed on implementing a custom control

Am developing a control which resembles like Flash timeline or windows movie maker timeline.
It will have multiple nodes in vertical aligned and a slider.
like

'|' is the vertical slider.
1) The nodes count is dynamic
2) The nodes are added to a scrollpane
3) The control should be resizable in horizontal & vertical
4) The nodes can be dragged and dropped
here the problem is the slider should reside top on the nodes and can move horizontally.
Here glasspane is useless, bcoz we can't do the node drag and drop.
Please suggest some architecture to implement this.

Why are you still creating a custom TableModel? Did you not see the advice to use the DefaultTableModel in your last posting?
There is absolutely no reason to spend time creating your own custom TableModel. The DefaultTableModel will do everything you need and more.
You should never invoke the fireXXX of the AbstractTableModel from outside the actual model. This tells me you are not using the proper design.
I gave you a link to the Swing tutorial in your last posting as well. Have you read the tutorial yet? The easiest solution is to create a text field that limits the number of characters you can enter and then use this text field to create a default cell editor. But if you haven't read the tutorial you won't understand what I'm talking about.

Please help, how to implement hasNext() and next() of a HashSet iterator?

Can someone help me out with this? I'm struggling to write an iterator (the hasNext() and next() methods) for a SimpleHashSet class and I keep failing. I have a basic unit test, which goes like this:

The problem with my implementation is that both hasNext() and next() progress the internal iterators forward, so i.e. calling hasNext() on an empty set will progress the internal iterators to the end, so then adding some elements and calling hasNext() again will return false. I couldn't figure out a way that hasNext() does not progress the iterators, so that only next does that. Both hasNext() and next() are dependent on each other in my example. But it works.

How are you obtaining the EntityManager and EntityManagerFactory? If it is injection, you should verify that the second transaction scope gets its own EM/EMF injected rather than being passed the one from the first one.

How to implement a boolean control via network

Hi,
I am developing an application by using LabVIEW 8.2 and RealTime. There is a host PC connecting to a PXI
through network cable. Application VIs are running at PXI and GUi is running at host PC. My problem is
When I config a boolean control as "Latch when release" mechanism, pass it to a shared network variable
and then to a boolean control at PXI. "Latch when release" mechanism seems not run very well. Most of the
time, no action when I press the boolean control button in my GUI. It seems that shared network variable
could not act as "Latch when release" mechanism. I checked some examples from NI. Most of examples set
the boolean control button mechanism as "Switch when press" and manually switch it status later on. I have
a bunch of such boolean control buttons in my GUI. It will be hard to handle every of them in this way.
I'd like to know whether there is an easier solution for this.

How are you passing the shared variable to the Boolean control in PXI VI?
Here is something to try out.
--Configure the Boolean controls on both systems to "latch until released".
--Create the shared variable (network-published) on the host PC and wire the output of the Boolean control to it.
--On the remote system, bind the Boolean control to the shared variable on the host PC. To bind to the shared variable, right click the Boolean control
   and select properties. Then select the "Data Binding" tab in the property window. Set the "data Binding selection" option to "Shared Variable Engine
   (NI-PSP)" and browse for the path to the shared variable created on the host PC.
--With this setting, whenever the Boolean control on the remote system (PXI) reads a true value, it stays true until the value is read by LabVIEW and
    goes back to the initial (false) state.

How to implement a callback function using LabView's Call Library Function Node?

I am trying to call a fuction from a SDK.dll library using the Call Library Function Node. The SDK was provided to
me and I do not have the source code, just the .dll and .h files.
The SdkSetPropertyEventHandler function has a callback fuction as one of its parameters. How do I implement the
callback using the CLF node? I am a good LabView programmer but this is my first time using the Call Library
Function Node. I have read all the info I can find on NI's web site and the discussion board but cannot figure
this one out. I am using LabView 8.6.
The SDK.h deacribes the function as:

Basically you do not do that. LabVIEW does not know pointers and certainly not function pointers. What you should do instead is writing a C DLL that implements the callback and also exports a function to be called by LabVIEW that translates between the callback and a LabVIEW user event. Look for PostLVUserEvent() here on the NI site to find examples how to do that.

The parameter describtion you show is useless. It tells absolutely nothing about the actual data types used nor how those parameters are exactly supposed to be passed. Show us at least the function prototype too!
