  • How to add sound to the general error handler

    I'm looking for an easy way to create an audible indication (a beep or something) when the general error handler displays an error message.  Anyone have any suggestions??
    Solved!

    Hi Bill,
    I thought this was an interesting idea, so I wrote up the code and posted it on the NI Community here: Simple Error Handler with Beep.  If you have any cool VIs that you'd like to share, you can post them on the community as well to share them with others.  Thanks!

  • Using the general error handler on an embedded rt target

    I would like to know how the general error handler can be best employed
    with Labview RT on a Compact Fieldpoint controller.  Clearly no
    dialogue options are valid so how can error information be accessed
    remotely - is there an error log file available on the controller?

    I think there are plenty of ways to handle errors with Labview RT on a Fieldpoint controller.
    Usually I use the general error handler vi to catch the error and get the error message (sure, no dialog), then write the eroor message into a log file (ordinary text file created on the controller), and/or send the eroor message through TCP/IP network to the host. You can use FTP to open, read and tranfer the log file at host. Hope help.

  • General Error When Opening A Project in FCE

    I have read many threads on this.
    My Config: FCE HD 3.51 / Intel Duo iMac
    When I opened the project (both from FCE and double click), it would not open and I received a General Error. My projects are saved in a folder called FCE Projects in my documents folder on my iMacs hard drive.
    I am able to open from my Auto Save - I moved this file to my desktop and renamed as the project copy - now I can open the project again.
    HOWEVER - when I move this project off my desktop back into my FCE projects folder, I get the same General Error again. Other projects from the same folder open fine.
    Any ideas?

    Try repairing permissions and re-boot.

  • General Error Handling - use of FEH (PPO/ECH)

    We are investigating the usage of Forward Error Handling, known with SAP as PPO (Post Processing) and ECH (Error Capture Handler) to be able to re-process errors (automatically or manually) from incoming messages.
    I am interested in talking with anyone who has implemented this. General questions are:
    - how have you found it to work in real life?
    - configuration/set-up straight-forward?
    - what scenarios have used it in?
    - incorporated into your custom services?
    But am interested in any comments.
    I am posting this within the PI forum as it ties into the fact we async scenarios inbound to SAP, typically from our PI system, and when those scenarios encounter an error we are looking for a way to have a business/end user - friendly interface for reprocessing the error. Implementing a proxy scenario, and thus having the errors show within sxmb_moni/sxi_monitor, is probably not going to work for us - too technical.  I am also aware of an add-on, AIF I believe, but our company is not interested in installing that.
    There are 4 blogs out there that I am aware of - 2 from Tobias and 2 from Michal. Very informative.  I am finding some config not as ours though.  Am really interested in anyone has really implemented and used this in a prod environment.
    Regards,
    Keith

    I think I am exactly at the same position as you in figuring out the usage of FEH in an environment. I just completed a small document (for internal purpose) that I prepared gathering all the information from those blogs, SCN and TechEd. Here are my 2 cents:
    >>- how have you found it to work in real life?
    We haven't implemented it yet. But we believe it will be quite useful in handling business specific errors. We are trying to find out if it can be merged with the existing BPEM infrastructure to generate BPEM cases.
    >>- configuration/set-up straight-forward?
    Yes, the blogs should be quite useful to provide this information.
    >>- what scenarios have used it in?
    Most importantly it will be used for standard service implementation where we consume enterprise services from ES workplace. These services have FEH capability built in (they have FEH method implemented within). The scenarios are of course inbound abap proxy.
    >>- incorporated into your custom services?
    We are still in design phase. But if you ask me about it, i would say yes you can and I think you should use it for custom ones as well.

  • How to implement an ActiveX server in LabVIEW

    My task is to implement an ActiveX server in LabVIEW 8.0 that will be called from a data management software (DXE).
    The LV server will take care of data acquisition and control.
    I have been looking for tutorials and example code at the NI developer zone and elsewhere without any progress. Information is either to general or code is to old (LV 5.1) to give any help.
    Please, show me to a good example of an ActiveX server in LV 8 properly commented or with attached explanations.
    Alternatively, suggest any tutorial, short course or books with practical instructions.
    Specific information is most welcome.
    I suppose that it is possible to write a ActiveX client in LabVIEW to verify the functions of the ActiveX server ?

    Thank You. Good to know that I am on the right track.
    However,
    Your sentence "If You look at the several shipping examples..." make me
    little concerned. I am not able to find any example of a LV ActiveX
    server in my LV 8.0 installation. I would be very grateful of You can
    send me any.
    Basically you can not create your own
    Active X server with your own object hierarchy and methods in LabVIEW.
    LabVIEW however can export a predefined Active X server interface that
    is just another access method to its internal VI server interface.
    With this interface you can determine what VIs are available to
    control, load specific VIs from disk if you know their path and,
    execute those VIs and passing parameters to it and receiving outputs.
    So if your software allows you to script the Active X access to an
    Active X server in some ways such as VBA or similar you should be fine.
    If your software expects a specific Active X interface you have to
    implement in the server application, you are out of luck with LabVIEW,
    without using an external component such as an extra Active X server
    DLL that translates between the expected interface and the exported
    LabIVEW interface. But this last method is quite likely not worth the
    hassle.

    While I did follow the link mentioned above and found the Interop.LabVIEW.dll that is included in the C# project for the purpose of calling VIs from C#, I am frustrated that these methods are 'buried' in a .dll that you have to go and find on the NI web site, and are not ActiveX methods that are available in an ActiveX Object that is installed when you install LV 8.20 PDS.
    Rolf, I don't know that you will get this email, but are you refering to the methods inside of the Interop.LabVIEW.dll in what you are saying above, and if so, how did you become aware of this .dll?
    Is anyone aware of any documentation for these ActiveX methods?

  • General error handling operation

    Hi,
    I did not find a comprehensive explanation how error handling works in TestStand, only bits and pieces about the callbacks (perhaps I looked at the wrong places).
    Anyway, I made some experiments with SequenceFilePostStepRuntimeError and StationPostStepRuntimeError - intentionally leaving out ProcessModelPostStepRuntimeError to reduce complexity - and came up with the attached flow chart. I would like to know:
    if that shows the correct operation of TestStand error handling (we are currently using 4.1, about to switch to 2010 or 2012, so it would also be interesting to know if anything changes with the new versions)
    if it is always the case that the combination of ErrorReported=True und Error.Occurred=True after the error handler leads to termination of the execution? I could not find any setting governing that (the "goto cleanup immediately" setting of the sequence was off;
    Best regards
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    1) Every step has :
    error.code   - to set the error code
    error.occured - boolen if set true displays a popup error message to the user
    error.message - the popup contains this message
    when you set error.occured=true it will bring up a popup message with the error.message and error.code.
    Please note that this may not be acceptable in the manufacturing environment where operators may not be trained to check for errors.
    The general practice in manufacturing is to fail all important steps that errors out so that the final result is failed.Then do a offline analysis.This is done by step.results.status = "Failed".You can also populate step.results.ReportText with proper values so that your test report reflects the type of error/failure.
    2) Regarding the  SequenceFilePostStepRuntimeError and StationPostStepRuntimeError - they are optional error handling methods if you want to act on errors.
    3)Every step has an option ( look for properties-->post actions).On Pass or On fail destinations can be set for each step.Cleanup is always executed except in cases of abort.
    4) In the menu configure-->Station options-->execution there is an option for runtime errors ( one of them is run cleanup).
    Hope the above information helps.

  • How to activate Forward Error Handling in SRM

    Hello Gurus,
    I got an requirement to activate Forward Error Handling in SRM. I have searched on SDN but didn't find appropriate answer on it.
    Even I found some link: PI/XI: Forward Error Handling (FEH) for asynchronous proxy calls with the use of Error and Conflict Handler (ECH)
    It explains me some points like activating FEH from SRM in SPRO. I have activated the same, plz check the screen shot:
    It also follows some development for the same.
    Here my concern is, should I follow this document? Does it applicable to all to all the scenarios?
    Step 8: it assign object id and type what does it mean...
    Does any one can explain me in detail..... Please provide me any document to configure the FEH in SRM.
    I am trying to implement FEH in my SRM system. So that when even XML fails due to error, I should be able to reprocess/restart it with some editing to the XML.
    My receiver interface for XML is PurchaseRequestERPSourcingRequest_In
    I think this is standard one and no need to make any custom code for it. SAP has all ready given solution for it with some Configuration.
    I have made some configurations like:
    The view FEHV_ACTIVE must have the status active.
    In transaction /SAPPO/LOGSYS , the logical system must be defined for the software component SRM-EBP-ESA .

    Also I have made some configuration according to the Note: 1973768 - No reprocess option is available in FEH for failed in XML in SRM
    Resulted, the “Process” button get activated in the XML Post Processing screen.
    But can I reprocess my XML with edited value from there..?
    All the  configuration part of PI  is already done .

  • How to Solve "General Error: Out of memory"

    Hi all experts,
    I have this "weird" error which I encountered for the first time.
    I converted a AVCHD file from my SD card (in mts) to .mov format using clipwrap. I played the resultant .mov file using Quick Time and it plays smoothly without any problem.
    Now, I imported this .mov into FInal Cut and it appears into my project panel. Then I click on this file expecting to see the video in the Viewer Window but it doesn't. Instead, an message saying "General Error: Out of Memory" appeared on the Viewer Window.
    Then, I tried another method by draggin rhis file from the project panel straight into the timeline. When I put my CTI onto it in the timeline, the video appears on the Canvas window but when I press the spacebar, the movement of the video is very jerky.
    Both the sequence settings on the video & sequence are matching at 1920 x 1080.
    Any idea what is going on ?
    Thanks

    MartinR wrote:
    Did you convert the AVCHD video to QuickTime using _Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)?_
    (.mov files are QuickTime, but the video codec inside would be H.264 if all you did in Clipwrap was convert .mts to .mov without also specifying conversion to Apple Intermediate Codec. A QT/H.264 video file would be playable in QuickTime but could not be edited in FCE. Needs to be QT/AIC.)
    Suggest checking (and let us know) what your clip & sequence properties are.
    Thanks Martin.
    And you are right ! The clip converted from clipwrap is QT/H.264. But how do I instruct Clipwrap to convert it to QT/AIC ?
    Also, how come Final Cut classified this as an "Out of Memory" error ?
    Thanks

  • General Error handling

    I've managed to get myself confused with error handling in Forms 6i.
    If I have a trigger that does a 'commit-form' like this
    commit_form;
    IF NOT form_success THEN
    RAISE form_trigger_failure;
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN;
    END;
    and the commit_form fails due to a mandatory field being missing (or similar) then what happens first?
    Does my ON-ERROR trigger fire?
    Does the form_success check fail and raise form_trigger failure?
    Does my exception block get used?
    Or does more than 1 happen??
    I could - of course - find the answer to this through debug but I'm looking for a more generic answer if possible.
    Thanks - Sean.

    What happens first?  The forms validation process runs and informs user that the field is required.
    Does On-Error fire?  Yes, if you have one in your form.
    Does the form_success check fail and raise form_trigger failure?  Yes -- but ONLY if your On-error raises Form_trigger_failure.  If it does not, you have lots of problems.
    Does my exception block get used?  Yes.  Raising Form_trigger_failure causes control to pass to the exception handler.  But I never use an exception handler except when I code SQL commands.
    Now...  After commit_form, you should also check Form_Status.  Read the help topic on the Form_Success built-in.
    My standard C00_Commit program unit does this:
      COMMIT_FORM;
      IF :SYSTEM.FORM_STATUS <> 'QUERY'
      OR NOT FORM_SUCCESS THEN
        RAISE FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;
      END IF;
    END;

  • "General Error" when moving older project to newer computer

    I have a hobbie /"pet" project for my kids that I have been working on, mostly off, over the last couple of years. Have it up and operating on a 17" 10.4.7 system and wanted to move it to a 12" 10.4.7 for travelling ease. Everything for the project is on a portable 90G drive, and ran media manger just to be sure. But it all runs OK on the 17"-FC5 on both- when I boot the project on the 12" get the ubiquitouse "general error". Anybody have any idea where to start? Preference on the 12"? Just got a hold of FCP rescue5 but not quite sure what "backup" or "Trash" mean -but get a "settings are in place" message- SHOULD I TRASH AND RESTART THE PROJECT? THNX ALL
    17" and 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    re: fcp rescue. backup takes your current preferences and backs them up. If your preferences get corrupted, you can restore them. But since it's the first time you're running fcp rescue, you need to just trash them. You will have to redo any customizing you have done. I guess you could do a backup then do a trash and if it doesn't fix the problem, you could do a restore. I usually just trash'em and redo em.
    Post back if you can't solve the problem. This is just the first step. And post back if you solve it, so everyone will know how you fixed it.
