Help! HP 3600n.

Okay,
Purchase a HP 3600n color laserjet. Connected it to my network and every computer in the house finds it immediately via Bonjour. When you send a job to print, it says connecting to printer and never prints. I can list every configuration I did, but it would be 2 pages long. I have had 3 long sessions with HP tech support. Reset printer, changed router, ethernet right into computer, repaired permissions, trashed hp print drivers and re-installed, you name it I have done it. Somehow someway we got my main mac to send a print to it. That lasted for a day. Woke up next day and it didnt print no more. reset printer with tech support again, rebooted router then was able to find it again. Worked again. Note: Getting it to work on my main mac every other day. I have NEVER got it to print on any of the other comps in the house. When I am able to print to it with my main comp and select "Share this Printer" all comps on the network find it. Same goes for when i plug it in via USB. All works well. I have another HP printer plugged in right next to it on the same router and never does it not work. It prints flawlessly. HP tech support is telling me, they got it to print so they are good on their end so I should now contact apple. If someone has experience with this crazy situation, please help me out. I have never had a problem like this with a printer before and I have always bought HP. This is nuts!

Try to manually download drivers and manually add printers to you Macbook Pro via System Preferences>Print and Scan.

  • Help with HP 3600n printer setup

Have a wrt54gs with wireless adapter. Trying to connect my HP 3600n printer. Can anyone take me step by step on the setup. Been with tech support for 4 hrs, still not working. Wireless is up and running. Thanks, KAP

So is the printer attached directly to your iMac, or is it attached to a router? Mine is attached to the Mac with USB and then shared with the other computers in the house over the LAN. Works great.

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600(not 3600n) with Fast Ethernet port - can I use it?

Hello! There is a HP Color LaserJet 3600 in our company connected via USB with XP-based PC. Recently I decided that we need this printer be shared directly trough our ethernet network, so I started to learn manuals - its own manual, Jet Direct, and all that stuff. The printer's manual says that HP Color Laserjet 3600 does not have neither its own ethernet port, nor support for embedded print-server like JetDirect 620n.
    But!
Visual check  shows that this HP 3600 DOES have its own ethernet port and if I connect it to network or at least to a notebook - it blinks like any other ethernet port with "lights" should do.
    However.
Neither front panel, nor back panel says anything about network support(like letter "n" in model name).
Configuration page print also does not know about that mysterious port.
    So my questions are:
    1. What is this port actually?
    2. Can I use it to share printer over network? Maybe, there is a way to upload 3600n's firmware somehow?

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • Unable to install hp Color LaserJet 3600n network printer on new Windows 7 (64bit) PC.

Unable to install hp Color LaserJet 3600n network printer on new Windows 7 (64bit) PC. According to Microsoft Windows Compatibility Center website (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20Col...) this printer is compatible.
I have tried everythingto no avail. HP will not support and have, very little online resources addressing this particular issue. What should I do?

  • Issue with HP 3600n, NetGear Wireless Router and SUBNETS!!

    Hello All,
I want to say (admit) first off that I am a PC person. The school I work for has recently acquired some new iMacs and I have to say I am very impressed with the design, ease of use and reliability. I can't believe I am saying these things out loud! Here, however, is my dilemma and I am hoping a community with a little more experience than me can help out. I searched through these discussions already and found some useful info, but nothing to really nail it on the head. My situation may be unique, but I am not sure. Here goes:
The school building we occupy is very old. Each classroom has only ONE data drop in it. Each classroom has a few PCs and a few Macs (mostly the newer iMacs). In one classroom in particular, I am unable to print wireless-ly to a networked HP LaserJet 3600n I have setup elsewhere on the network. Here is the network breakdown:
Main network (FIOS modem to SonicPro 2040 Firewall)= 192.168.168.xx. The HP Printer has an IP address on this scope. The classrooms have a NetGear WGR16 setup to act as a switch and wireless access point. The WGR16 also distributes IPs on it's own subnet, 192.168.1.xx. The iMac connects wireless-ly to this NetGear and receives an IP of 192.168.1.xx.
The PCs in the classrooms connect directly to the NetGear Router via an Ethernet cable. The PCs can see the printer, the firewall and get out to the internet with no problems. They can print with no issues. The iMac, however, can get out to the internet but cannot see the HP printer on the other scope. I know how to add a printer in Windows directly via an IP address, but trying that with the Mac doesn't get me anywhere, probably because I am not doing something correctly. I can get the Mac to print to the HP printer's IP directly but it just sends garbled text to the printer and then shoots out 100 blank pages (lol).
The Mac, HOWEVER, can print with no problem wireless-ly to another networked printer I have elsewhere on another scope (it's a Lexmark C532n).
I am thinking the issue has more to do with the HP printer than anything else but my questions are:
    1. What is the best way to have Macs recognize printers that are on different subnets if the built in features of Mac OSX aren't "seeing" the printer?
    2. Are there any specific issues with the NetGear Router or HP Printer that I should know about and address to solve this issue?
    3. We are a school on a limited budget so purchasing any additional hardware is not likely.
I appreciate anyone who has read this entire rambling discussion and certainly appreciate any help in moving things in the right direction. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything I have said here.
    Thanks much!!

I just had the same problem with my MacBook Pro using 10.5.5 After trying a number of things, the following worked. (not sure what specifically ... just did this combination)
    1. Had the Apple store Genius Bar folks install the latest HP drivers.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Restart the HP Color LaserJet 3600
    4. Connected the HP printer and MacBook Pro directly into a switch, so the wireless was not an issue (both machines had IP addresses set and computer's was set to DHCP with manual IP).
    5. Instead of using the System Preference printing and fax tool, I started Text Edit, typed something and said "print".
Print window came up and said "no printer selected"
    6. I clicked on the drop down so it would look for printers.
    7. It found the HP Color LaserJet 3600.
    8. I clicked on the name of the printer and the computer went out and found the driver
    9. I clicked on "Add" and it added the printer.
    10. I tried a couple of test prints in different programs.
    11. I disconnected the hard wired ethernet cables and set the computer to be on the wireless.
    12. I printed a few more test prints in various programs.
I had previously tried selecting the printer and drivers through the System Preferences to no avail, but doing it this way worked.

  • Problem with HP Color LazerJet 3600n

I'm having a problem printing ... I'm sure I need to replace the magenta cartridge! The thing is, it's almost full, .. and it's printing pages like this ...
It's full, but it's missing like 20% of the right side. I've attempted to clean, I've attempted to do everything to fix this .. and I can't do anything. These cartridges are expensive to replace ... so I'd rather not have to replace it when it's still full! Any help would be appreciative.

This forum is focused on consumer level products.  For the color laserjet 3600n you may have better results posting in the Laserjet Business Support Forum here.
I am not a laserjet expert, but based on the picture I would say the likely cause is a cartridge that was stored on its end.  Rocking the cartridge from end to end may help distribute the toner.

  • Problem with HP 3600n Color Laserjet Printer and new HP Notebook Running 64 bit Win7

I have a new HP notebook (dv7t-6100) with Core-i7 Processor, running 64 bit Windows 7 with all of the latest updates.
I also have a 27" iMac with Core-i7 Processor running 64 bit Windows 7 underneath Parallels 7. Parallels is a program that creates a virtual machine underneath Mac OSX.
Both versions of 64 bit Windows 7 work perfectly . . . EXCEPT, neither will print from my HP 3600n Color Laserjet. The iMac will print to the 3600n in OSX mode, and an earlier version of 32 bit Windows 7 under Parallels printed perfectly with this 3600n printer.
These facts prove that the printer is OK, the connection is OK. However, the 64 bit Windows 7 systems do not print.
In both of the 64 bit Windows 7 installs I allowed Windows to find and download the HP driver for this printer. Install of the driver was apparently successful. Still no printing.
One strange fact: Sometimes when I turn the computer off, the 3600n printer will print the items that had been in the queue before powering down. That is the only time it has printed anything . . . except under OSX on the iMac.
Does anyone know if there is a basic problem with 64 bit Windows 7 and this printer ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Brand new Mac user, needs help getting Mac onto Wireless Print Server

    Ladies & Gents,
After much struggle with PCs in the last two weeks I finally broke down and bought a MacBook. I'm very happy with it, but I am having issues getting hooked into my office's wireless printing network.
The printer is an HP Color Laserjet 3600n and we're set up with a D-Link DPR 1260 router. I've tried just about everything I know, and even our much-more-qualified-than-I resident Mac user is unsure how to make this work.
I will continue to search the forum, but I would appreciate any help. I should be off and on throughout most of the day. Thanks!

  • Print Problems with 3600n printer

I am having problems printing certificates with a 3600n color laserjet printer.  The certificate blanks are cardstock thickness and have a foil emblem embossed on the upper portion of the certificate.  When I print a certificate out, I often get a red "ghost" of the emblem directly below the emblem on the certificate.  I imagine the "ghost" is caused by heat transference from the emblem.
I set both the computer and printer control settings for cardstock before printing.  Other than the ghost image, the print quality is quite good.
Of note, I use a PC, loaded with Windows Vista 32 bit OS.  I print the certificate from Word, and load the certificates in through tray 1 - the manual feed tray.  Thanks in advance for any assistance or solution provided.

    Hey Mike_D63,
Embossing , especially with foil, may be an issue on LaserJet printers. The foil may be pulled of, adhere to the heated fuser roller, may attract toner, and result in ghosting. Unfortunately, there isn't any way around this, since all LaserJets use a heat and pressure to melt/adhere the plastic toner particles to the media.
Additional info can be found in the Print Media Guide (link below). While it doesn't call out foil media in particular, I suspect this is what is causing the issue.

  • Help! Network printing

I am connected to a printer on another computer. When I request a print job, it goes to the printer, but the "million"pages that come out are blank. I have the Mac mini, the shared printer is HP Windows XP, printer is a HP Color LaserJet 3600n. The Mac knows the printer is there, but prints blanks and lots of them. I hope I explained this ok. Anybody got any ideas why this is happening.
    Thanks for your help.

Can you print to the printer normally if it's plugged in directly to your Mac mini? Have you installed the most recent driver?

  • HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

according to HP's compatibility lists, there will be no support for HP Laserjet Color 3600n under Windows 7.
Is this really true and if so, for heaven's sake why?
We bought this device not so long ago for our small business office and waited desperately for upgrading computers and devices to windows 7, but it seems HP won't support this well doing business printer under windows 7.
Does it costs so much effort to adapt Vista driver to work under windows 7?

Cracked it!  My 3600n is printing from a wireless Windows 7 pc.
I was trying about three things at once, so future posters may be able to work through what I've done and simplify this by taking out unnecessary steps.
    1.  Find a PC on your network that is still running XP and has the 3600n attached as a network printer.  On this PC, share the printer as CLJ3600.
    2.  On the Win 7 PC, download the Universal Printer Driver from HP support (I used the one provided under laserJet 3700, as this seemed closest in number to what I wanted - but as it's named "universal", maybe there is only one anyway).  Run the executable.  It wants to set up a printer, but will fail to set up the 3600n as it can't find a Win_7 driver.
    3. On the Win 7 PC install a new printer - choose the option "shared printer" and select the CLJ3600 share that you created on your XP machine.  The set up pulls a load of XP drivers across to your Win_7 machine.  Test this shared printer with Print A Test Page from the Properties tab.
    4. Now go back to a program you want to print from in Win_7 (I used Picassa to prove it worked on printing a photo) and print to the normal HP LaserJet 3600 printer that was on your PC before you upgraded it to Win_7.  Hey Presto!  Win_7 prints to the HP LJ3600.
Hope that is more help than HP have been so far.  If I had needed to buy a new printer you can GUARANTEE it would have been anything but an HP one after all the help they've been here.
    Happy hacking!

  • 3600n network connection on Windows 7

Trying to connect a Color Laserjet 3600n to my network using an ethernet to my router on Windows 7 64 bit.  Had the printer connected via usb with no issues.  Have tried most of the "fixes" on the posts here but have gotten it to work on my desktop Win 7 64 bit, laptop Win 7 64 bit or desktop Vista 64 bit.  Tried the Vista host on both Win 7's already and also manual configurations.  Consider myself to be pretty tech savvy and have been fooling around for around 6 hours to no avail.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at Printers - LaserJet.

    Hi,
I have upgraded maverick to yosemite. The last Update for printer software was installed (version 3.0 at Oct. 1 2014). But both printers doesn not work any more.
The color laser jet 3600n stops after 10% of the print with PCL XL error, Subsystem kernel, Error: Missing data, Operator: Vendor Unique, Position 14.
With the OfficeJet 8600 Pro it is quite similar. The printer starts loadin the page. After some minutes the printer push out the empty page. In both cases the Mac lost connection to the printer for some time. After few minutes the connection is established.
