Help!  jabberd out of control

We have a Snow Leopard Server installation - currently running 10.6.8
We don't use, and have not enabled iChat.  Nonetheless recently we've seen the server CPU running at 50% load, and upon investigating found the cause was the jabberd process continually starting and dying and restarting - and writing everything into the logs (and it was the syslogd process that was hitting the cpu most visibly).
Try as we might, we cannot find a way to stop the server thrashing away with jabberd - a pointless activity.
We've tried enabling and then disabling iChat, deleting the jabber database, and multiple restarts and so on.  Nothing seems to help.
Can anyone advise on how to stop iChat / jabberd from running?

Anyone got any ideas?  The problem is still there - I still can't understand why it is not possible to simply turn off Jabberd since none of its services are being used for anything.
It got into port scanning again today, so I killed the c2s process in activity monitor, and this is the trace of what happened when it restarted (as the thing won't stay killed).  Not sure it is meaningful, but this one contains statements about conference.server.local not being found.  Any clues there?
As always, any help most gratefully received

  • Click Wheel out of control!!! HELP

I recently got a white iPod Video 30GB and lately the click wheel is not responding as it should. It will not respond to the play/pause button and will sometimes do things on its own without me even touching it!!I have tried to reset it but it will not work and i have also downloaded the newest version of i-tunes
If i already have to newest version how do i reinstall it...will this remove all of my music?
Also if i try to restore it will all my songs remain in itunes or will they be erased also??
    PLEASE HELP!!!

By any chance, when your click wheel goes out of control is a cellphone anywhere near the iPod, because some phones especially GSM phones are known to cause the volume limit indicator to go out of control. If you find out this is the problem, just simply remember not to have your phone and iPod close together.
    Hope this helps.

  • Out of control thermocouples

Hey, I've got a weird problem and I'm hoping someone can help. I've been using a program for about 6 months now that basically maintains a cold temperature at one side of a heat sink, and maintains a hot temperature at the other side.  Then I have 25 thermocouples hooked up in between to measure temperatures so I can do analysis on the material in the middle.  My problem is that all of a sudden the thermocouple readings have been out of control and unpredictable.  I was adding automation to the program so it could run multiple tests at once and in the process this problem developed.  The strange part is that the problem is also happening in the old version of the program now too, and that has been working perfectly for the last 6 months.  I have 25 thermocouples hooked up and the temperatures will all look about right, but then 3 to 5 of them will be completely wrong randomly.  What's interesting about this problem is that when I change the thermocouple that the heaters use to maintain the set point temperature, the values that were wrong become right again and some of the other thermocouples start giving invalid data.  The setup uses one NI 9213 and 3 NI 9211 inputs for the thermocouples.  It also uses a NI 9401 to control the heaters through a pulse width modulation electric box we have.  Anyone ever experience something like this or have any ideas?  Thanks for any help

    Hello acolbourn,
Have you tried hooking the thermocouples that were giving you bad data back into another port that you were previously getting good data with. This will help you figure out if the problem is the thermocouples or the card inputs. Since you said the issues were fixed by replacing the thermocouples, that makes me think the issue is the thermocouples...but I would still trying plugging the "bad" thermocouples into another port just to see if you still get bad data.
How do you have your code setup to read the signal? Do you have multiple tasks reading from the different cards, or do you have one task with all the inputs on it? I noticed you are only reading one sample at a time, you may want to try reading multiple samples so that you have a buffer and are less likely to get that error. Also, if you were in highlight execution, then this error would have happened because of the how much highlight execution slows down the program, and not because of an issue with the code. When you debug with DAQmx, data overwrite errors are common. This is mainly because most debugging involves slowing down the execution to see what's going on, but slowing down the execution causes timed events to not function correctly, so this may be the cause of the -200279 error.
    I hope this helps!

  • Out of control volume control

My HP Pavilion dv7=-3057 laptop has an out of control volume icon and control. I believe that it is possessed . It comes on all by itself.  The blue line runs back and forth eventually reaching the highest volume point. It sometimes goes off by itself only to return when I am busy doing something. Sometimes it will go away when I click on the screen the way it is supposed to. Other times it will just keep coming on over and over and over and ov... , you get the point. It is very maddening. I have recently discovered that a quick and hard  slam down on the desk keeps it from coming back for longer periods but it keeps coming on over and over and over and over. I spent 2 1/2 hours with HP support but to no avail. They gave it a very good attempt. Please help as it keeps coming on over and over and over and over and over and......

    Hello PJMCGEOWN,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano (6th generation).  I recommend following the 5 Rs for an issue like this (you can skip the step to reinstall iTunes because it is not related to the issue you described):
The 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with iPod nano. Try these steps one at a time until your issue is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
Reset iPod nano. See “General suggestions,” below.
Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
Restore iPod nano. See “Updating and restoring iPod software” on page 56.
You can find these steps on page 52 of the iPod nano User Guide:

  • MacBook Air is laggy and the fan is out of control

My MacBook Air 2013 is laggy and the fan is out of control. The fan is out of control even when I start my macbook up. I don't know if it has something to do with Yosemite or something else. I have tried SMC restarting, and nothing has changed. I would really love to hear if anyone else is having this problem, and I would love to hear if any of you have any tips. Also I checked if anything is using up my CPU a bunch, and nothing is out of the ordinary.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or low voltage readings from the battery of a MacBook, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to:
☞ a buildup of dust on the logic board
    ☞ high ambient temperature
    ☞ a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That behavior may be normal for some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.

  • IPhoto scrolls out of control

I'm really getting #$%&* off at iPhoto. I'm organizing a semi large library of just over 1000 images in approximately 120 rolls. Here's the problem: when I drag and drop images from one roll to another, at some point which I can't exactly determine, iPhoto kicks into overdrive and scrolls so fast that I can't see the rolls. If I try to reverse (inevitable as it's impossible to stop where you want when iPhoto is in Warp speed), all the while still holding down the click button on my mouse, iPhoto goes in reverse just as fast. It's impossible to stop and drop the image where I want. What usually happens is I just drop it somewhere and then have to re drag and drop to the correct roll.
Is there anyway of controlling the speed iPhoto scrolls at? When I first start dragging an image, iPhoto scrolls at an appropriate speed and slowly accelerates. Then, all of a sudden, like I said, it kicks in the afterburners and essentially becomes useless.
    Any help?

    TD.
Thanks, that's a useful article. I'll check out the USB overdrive and see if it has some functions I'd like.
But again, for me it's not a mouse issue. Unlike the article, I never have this problem outside of the library in iPhoto.
It happened again yesterday, so let my try to describe it more carefully.
I had just uploaded some pictures from a camera card into iPhoto. They were put in a new roll (as always). I wanted to move them up to an existing roll with pictures from the same card. I selected the new roll. Then I began to drag them up to the roll where I wanted them. I had perfect control with the mouse as I moved the drag image up the screen. But the target roll was above it, off screen. When I moved to the top where iPhoto begins to scroll the rolls downward, it was fine at first. I even am very careful to just let it scroll a little at a time, to keep it from accelerating (Notice that the mouse dosn't move much here, it's iPhoto moving the rolls to put them on screen.) I had no trouble getting my target roll onscreen, highlighting the roll name, and dropping in the first set of imports.
But when I uploaded more pictures on another new roll and tried to move them, iPhoto freaked out. Again I selected the new roll and dragged it up to the top of the window. With the mouse just inside the top of the window, where it activates iPhoto to move the rolls down, I could see the open target roll approaching as rows of thumbnails lowered on the screen. BUT, when it got to where the roll name should have been, iPhoto moved into warp speed and skipped a whole screenful of rolls in a flash. The target roll was now off screen below the window. So I had to move the mouse down and let iPhoto begin scrolling the rolls up. Nice and slow, a few rolls at a time (I keep the rolls I'm not using closed.) Then JUMP - iPhoto goes into hyperspeed again and scrolls the rolls up so that the target roll is again off screen above the window. Again, I moved up to the top so iPhoto would scroll the rolls down. Back and forth, up and down, it kept flying past my target roll. With the target roll open, I could get the rows of thumbnails on screen nice and slow. But I have to reach that roll name, or my photos won't drop into the roll. It's the roll NAME that keeps getting flown past. (As if iPhoto is rejecting more changes to that roll.) If I close the target roll, I can't come within 2 or 3 rolls from it before iPhoto goes warp. Eventually I managed to get the target roll on screen while the mouse was at the top and iPhoto was scrolling down. It scrolled very quickly, but I managed to catch it before it moved off the bottom of the screen. Then I moved my mouse slowly down toward the target roll, one roll at a time (dragging all the while, never releasing) and was finally lucky enough to have the roll name of my target roll stay put and become highlighted. I dropped in the new roll, and it was correctly added to the target roll.
The third time I uploaded and tried to move was even more difficult. It took even longer to catch the target roll on screen. Lots more up and down. All of my imports yesterday (3 newly created rolls) were placed into the same roll.
Jailer Joe, is this what happens to you?
Has anyone else seen or heard of this? Any thoughts as to why iPhoto's roll scrolling goes out of control?

  • When I try to drag and drop to combine events in iPhoto, the drag accelerates out of control when it reaches the top or bottom of the screen. How can I slow it down?

    Album overview
A photo album in iPhoto is just like one you would create with printed photos: It’s a collection of photos you select from your library and arrange in the order you want.
You can create photo albums to:
Focus on a particular subject, such as your favorite nature photos
Group pictures that you want to send to a friend, post on a webpage, or burn to a CD or DVD
Gather a decade of anniversary photos
iPhoto has two kinds of photo albums:
Standard photo albums: You create these albums (B, shown below) by selecting particular photos. You can add new photos by dragging them to the album (or using the Add To button), and you can remove photos at any time. All adding and removing is done manually; iPhoto doesn’t update standard albums automatically as you import new photos.
Smart Albums: iPhoto creates these albums for you, based on criteria your specify. iPhoto then updates Smart Albums (A, shown above) for you as your library changes. For example, you could create a Smart Album containing:
Photos of specific people, such as your family members. As you import new photos, iPhoto uses Faces to detect your family members, and automatically adds new photos of them to the Smart Album (after you’ve confirmed the matches in Faces).
All the photos of your daughter taken on school field trips in third grade. Use Faces (to name your daughter) and keywords (to mark certain photos or events as “field trips”) to help specify the photos you want iPhoto to place in that Smart Album.
Only photos taken with a specific camera, or photos matching other Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) information.
You can make as many albums as you like, and you can include the same photo in several albums without making multiple copies of it.
After you create an album, such as “Australia Adventures,” it appears in your Source list below Albums.
In full-screen view, the album appears as a stack of photos below Albums.
To further organize your library, you can group several albums (along with slideshows and projects) into a folder. For example, you could create a folder containing several years of birthday albums or a collection of albums with photos of your camping trips.
To create a folder, see “Create a folder in the Source list and move items into it” in “Customize the Source list”.
Folders appear only in the Source list, not in full-screen view.
Note: A photo album is different from a photo book, which is a collection of photos you create to get professionally printed and bound. See this topic: Photo book overview.

  • Hi experts please help me out ...

Q1. : How to create Pool table and Cluster table ? (Step by step procedure)
Q2. : What is the use of table maintenance generator  ,How to create a table maintenance generator ?(Step by step procedure)
Q3. : How to use table control in BDC  ?
    Q4. : I have a dificulty in uploading data in infotype 589 ,T-code PA30 . plz help me out .
Q5. : How to create a layout of a report (designing of a layout set)

    Creating Table Pools/Table Clusters
    Procedure
In the initial screen of the ABAP Dictionary, choose Utilities ® Further Dictionary Objects.
    A dialog box appears.
Select the object type Table pool/cluster and enter the object name. Choose .
A dialog box appears in which you must specify if it is a table pool or a table cluster.
Select the required object type and choose .
The maintenance screen for table pools/clusters appears.
The necessary entries will have been made automatically for the fields for table pools since a table pool has a fixed structure. You should not change these standard settings if you can avoid it.
The structure of a table cluster is also mostly fixed. Certain fields are therefore proposed when the table cluster is created. You can adjust this proposal to your requirements, for example by inserting further key fields. However, make sure you conform to the structure necessary for a table cluster.
Enter an explanatory text in the field Short text.
If necessary, select the  activation type of the table pool/cluster with Utilities ® Activation type.
Create documentation about the table pool/cluster with Goto ® Documentation.
This documentation should describe what the table pool/cluster is used for. The documentation is also output when the table pool/cluster is printed.
Go to the maintenance screen for the technical settings by choosing Goto ® Technical settings.
In contrast to the table maintenance screen, you can only define the  size category here. All other attributes of the technical settings are preset.
Activate the table pool/cluster with .
    Result
The table pool/cluster is activated. You can look at the log of the activation with Utilities ® Activation log. If errors occurred during activation, the activation log is automatically displayed.
After the table pool/cluster has been activated, you need to create it in the database. To do this, use the database utility (Utilities ® Database utility).
Once a table pool contains data, it can no longer be changed.
Well the purpose of table maintainence generator is to enable the table maintenance through SM30, and to implement and validation etc on table field inputs.
    SE11->Utillities->table maintainence generator
You need to enter the values of following fields:
    1. Table name
    2. Authorization group , and authorization object (select the suitable one )
    3. Function group and package
    4. Maintainence type : single or double screen maintainence view depending on the option selected.
    5. Maintain screen number : you may specify a value or let the system generate one for you.
The validation code for the table entry is written in the flow logic of this screen. Even some of the fields may be made display only , by adding suitable code in the logic or directly disabling the input in table control in the layout.

Upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro -- memory of kernel_task runs out of control (>6GB) in approx 48 hours after using -- initially did a clean install of Yosemite, and only loaded apps that are needed.
Etrecheck reports the following with many process having to be killed due to me pressure.
Any ideas what is triggering the men usage and eventual swap to death of the Retina?
kernel_task is at 6.8GB RAM although etrecheck doesn't report it, 1.1 GB of swap according to iStat in addition
Huge number of Page Outs -- faulty memory chips perhaps?

One of the above kernel extensions is running wild.  All of these, when loaded are part of kernel_task.
With 16GB or RAM, your kernel_task should be hovering around 1GB (plus or minus).  My 16GB Macbook Pro has a 1.25GB kernel_task.
You can experiment by booting into Safe Mode, which will not load any of the 3rd party additions, and you can see if your kernel_task remains stable

  • Could anyone help me out here regarding frame rate?

Hi, everyone,I need help with a dynamic frame rate issue,
I have created this spinning diamond flash with a dynamic frame rate controlled by the mouse cursor.
it spins from the right to the left if the cursor is at the left side of the diamond and vice verse, and also the further away the cursor is from the middle of the diamond, the faster it spins.
it works perfectly awesome in Firefox and by itself, but when it's in IE, the cursor loses control of frame rate, so it spins at the highest frame rate regardless where the cursor is at.
I used nextFrame(), prevFrame() to do the winding and rewinding job, and frame rate gets changed in ENTER_FRAME.
I've heard some say that IE ignores frame rate per frame? is it true? if so, how do I fix it?
Could anyone please help me out with this issue?it only happens in IE.

please don't cross-post.  let's keep this discussion on the general flash forum.

  • Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini.  I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far.  I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

    Not on mac though

  • Trackpad out of control

    Hello,
i have a problem with my new MacBook Pro,
the mouse is out of control when I'm using the trackpad,
it randomly clicks, makes new folders, and it is totally out of contol,
    it looks something like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fhMt73LtW4
when I use an Usb mouse it stops for a while,
i went to the apple store, and they replaced the trackpad, but the issue didnt go away...
i reset Pram and Smc but nothnig helped...
    Can anyone help me,
    Tnx

I have a somewhat similar annoying problem. As I type (clearly not touching the trackpad button) the mouse magically clicks. This either highlights what I just typed then deletes it with the next letter, or clicks another field so there is no cursor in the text field at all. I have applecare but I am in Thailand where I am unsure how good it will be. Also I can't be without my computer for long as I use it regularly for business.
