Help!!! JSP, java.lang.NoSuchMethodError (made me fed up)

It is very very confused to me. The same code works very well under
http://localhost:8084 can not work on http://10.28.XX.XX:8080
It is a login program. It is very simple, to pass a userID and password to a JavaBean. If Bean checkes the user is valid, then telephone number will return. The follwing code is my fragment code..
Bean code..
public String getRoomNumber() {
return roomNumber;
public String getTelephoneNumber() {
return telephone;
JSP code
if(userIsExist && userIsValid)
userName = login.getUserName();
roomNumber = login.getRoomNumber();
division = login.getDivision();
telephone = login.getTelephoneNumber();
This code works very well under the localhost:8084, it can not work on the 10.28.XX.XX:8080
Also getUserName, getRoomNumber and getDivision can work, only getTelephoneNumber can not work.
It will gerate error
javax.servlet.ServletException: login.LoginBean.getTelephoneNumber()Ljava/lang/String;
     root cause
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: login.LoginBean.getTelephoneNumber()Ljava/lang/String;
Very very strange.
Thanks for any helps

Thank you very much for your reply. You are correct.
Tomcat version on port 10.28.XX.XX:8048 is 5.0.19 and
on port 8080 is 5.0.28. I assuem maybe I install two
different Tomcat versions cause the problem. Thank you
sooooo much.
But I am still a bit confused, the same code can be
run on 5.0.19 and can't on 5.0.28.
DaanBut, if they are different versions of Tomcat, they are not the same instance of Tomcat. That means you are editing/testing with a JavaBean that you are not running with.
1) Make sure you put the Bean (and its package) in the WEB-INF/classes directory of the running Tomcat instance.
2)Try restarting the running Tomcat server (at http://10.28.xxx.xxx:8080) to be sure that the newest Bean is being used in the application.
3) Always deploy your applications (move from testing (localhost) to running server) using a WAR file. This will force the context to reload, and ensure you are using the most current version of the classes in the application. This is especially important in cases where you do no have access to restart the server as suggested in #2) If you need help on how to deploy via WAR, search these forums, and google.

    Hi,
    I get a
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: Unit.UnitBean.execSQL(Ljava/lang/String; Ljava/sql/ResultSet;

    Yeah, that worked great, thanks a lot. I thought that JSP compiled when you changed it and then visited it, but i've tried that. I just ran ant stop start on my server and it's all working.
    Thanks again :)

  • Java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.servlet.jsp.PageContext:

              I Have exactly the same error and I would like to have a solution.....
              It happens when weblogic tries to compile a jsp page.
              So the result on the browser is the original jsp page: The jsp tags are not parsed.
              This problem exists on my Weblogic 4.5.1 sp11 (on unix) nut not on my weblogic 4.5.2 NT ?
              Any idea ?
              Thanks.

    Hi!
    Can you tell us what version of JDeveloper you are using, and what steps you took to create the JSF page? Like, write from scratch or use the JSF page wizard?
    Also, can you check your project properties, and check that the JSF libraries are included, and JSF tag libraries set up?

    also rewrited the web.xml with corresponding TLD's
    uri mappings.Delete the TLDs. Remove the taglib changes you made to the web.xml. I am not sure what tutorial tells people to do this, but it is WRONG for installing JSTL (or any Custom Tag Library that is packaged properly).
    All you need is the standard.jar and jstl.jar in your WEB-INF/lib directory (and maybe an XMLParser if you are using the <xml: tags).
    Anyway. That may not be your main problem. Make sure you are using the correct version of JSTL for you server.
    If you are using Tomcat 4, you need JSTL 1.0
    If you are using Tomcat 5, you need JSTL 1.1

    Please help!

    Hello,
    Anyone, please help me on this... by the way, I run my program without errors in JDev's OC4J, not the standalone OC4J. But when I deploy it to my server's OAS, it gets the error above whenever I load a jsp with an adf:inputrender on a Date attribute of my VO.

  • "Catching" a java.lang.NoSuchMethodError

    Hi all,
    Currently developing a number of different versions of the same system at the same time and I have a problem with NoSuchMethodError.
    Background:
    The system consist of a number of jar files:
    - a.jar
    - b.jar
    - c.jar
    Each jar-file is version handled by itself, and it should be possible to upgrade only parts of the jar-files (e.g. only add bugfixes introduced in a.jar and b.jar) to a running system.
    My problem is that I have developed a new version of the b.jar using a method introduced in v1.3 of the a.jar. Since other bugfixes also are introduced in the new version of b.jar, I need to be able to use the new b.jar release in both new systems (using v2.0 of a.jar) and old systems (using v1.0 of a.jar)
    What I want to be able to do is something like below in a method defined in the b.jar:
    try {
      temp.newMethod(...);  // <-- newMethod(...) @since a.jar v2.0
    catch (java.lang.NoSuchMethodError nsme) {
      // Do nothing since the old version of a.jar
      // doesn't need the special handling introduced
      // in newMethod(...)
    }I don't get it through the compiler this way though, any one of you guys who could help me out???
    Thanks!
    /Jonas

    Thanks for your respond Juan, but it's not true that you can use try/catch only for Exceptions, works great with Errors as well...
    Only a simple compile configuration error on my side that caused my problem, but I got great help from another direction that made me realize my mistake. Thank God for knowing the right people, once again cheers Heinz!!!
    Anyway, there are 2 options to handle this problem:
    1. Call the method using reflection
    2. Compile the new code (b.jar) using the new a.jar. This way the compiler lets the code pass, and the NoSuchMethodError is easily caught by using a standard try/catch expression as the one included in my example above.
    Needless to say I went with option number two since this was exactly what I wanted to do in the first place, but I failed in having the new version of a.jar in the classpath at compile time...
    /Jonas (whos app is running like a dream at the moment)

    Hello,
    The problem is solved following these steps,
    "NWDS IDE is in SP04 whereas the WebDynpro Runtime is in SP01. So yo have to upgrade your WebDynpro in WebAS to SP04.
    All WebDynpro for Java patches are available on SAP Service Marketplace.Note 330793 explains how to download patches from SAP Service Marketplace. Note 1395865 explains how to find the Web Dynpro for Java related SCAs.
    Update your system via JSPM.
    Please refer the link to the official documentation for JSPM
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/1f/c45b4211aac353e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    From WebDynpro perspective, we recommend you to apply both WD-RUNTIME.SCA and FRAMEWORK.SCA. So if any one of the archive is not mentioned in the 'SP Patch Level' tab, it is recommended to apply the same which is available in the service market place."

    hi
    read the following configuration i hope it will help u.
    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    [OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
    and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
    [JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
    cd [JacobStage]
    copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
    copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
    The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
    Open a DOS command prompt.
    Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
    set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    Sign the files, and check the output for success:
    [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
    [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
    you may skip this step. Otherwise,
    Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
    connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
    for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
    Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
    out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
    errors.
    Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
    CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
    GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
    CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
    @[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
    -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
    Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
    grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
    to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Start the OC4J instance
    7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
    Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
    It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
    Note 303682.1
    If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
    full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    8) Create a new FMB.
    Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
    There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
    Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
    Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
    NULL;
    to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
    Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
    show_webutil_information (TRUE);
    in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
    Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
    the "Application Server URL" is empty.
    Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
    http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    10) Run your form.
    If its Correct/Helpful please mark it thanks.
    Sarah
