Help linking click boxes to "on Success" launch file

Hello, all,
I need assistance linking my click box to a file that I need to launch in the project.  I am putting together some work samples and need to load the Captivate project up onto Dropbox for others to view.  The files I am having issues with are a PDF and output from Articulate Engage and Quizmaker.  When I publish, Captivate searches for the files locally, and does not open anything, even when I ahave moved the files to Dropbox and set the On Success directory to browse to the drop box location.  I got the message that I need to save the files for the output, including HTML files into the output folder, but when publishing to an .exe, there isn't an output folder.  Can someone please help me?

or use this http://captivatedev.com/2012/08/07/adobe-captivate-6-x-widget-web-page-widget/  to display whatever you want created in Articulate, and/or else where.
If you really need to embed pdfs into your .exes, there's no way to accomplish it directly. However, you can convert your pdf to swf and insert it as an animation.
Silly ain't it?. Google for swftools, it's free.

  • Unable to link click box to Word document

I am using Captivate 2 to create a click box. On success the
click box should open a Word document in a new window. I have saved
the Word document in the same folder with my swf. After testing the
click box, I get an error message IE was unable to link to the Web
page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
What is weird that the Open URL or File on success works fine
if I set the Word document to open in the current window. This
option is not possible, because I do not want users leaving the
course. Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

I'm facing this problem since Captivate 2
but I just skip the link file part....
But now i doing my personal portfolio
which got huge link pdf and mpeg link file...
    so I've tried Captiv8r method
    but after publish into .exe
    when i click the clickbox
i will appear ERROR sign and won't open the link pdf file
    I've followed all the steps:
    1. From Captivate, click File > Create a MenuBuilder
    project...
    2. Choose the "Blank Project" type and click OK.
    3. Click Options > Project Options...
    4. Change the Width to 320 and the Height to 200 (These are
    the minimum settings)
    5. Click OK to dismiss the Project options.
    6. Click Insert > Clickbox...
    7. You should see a "New Clickbox" dialog. There should be an
    empty field labeled "Link".
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
    9. Place a check mark in the "Save file with project" check
box, and click OK to dismiss the dialog.
    10. You may see a warning dialog where MenuBuilder is
quibbling about the document not being present. Don't let this fool
you. Just click NO to advise you don't wish to browse for the file.
    11. At this point you should see a small object on your
MenuBuilder. It should say "Clickbox" and be positioned in the
    middle of the project.
    12. Drag the sizing handles until it totally covers the area.
It should totally cover the whole area.
    13. Now click the Export toolbar button.
    14. MenuBuilder will then prompt you to save the project. Go
ahead and give it a name to appease it and click the Save button.
    15. Select "Flash Movie" from the Export Options dialog and
    click Next >.
    16. Type a file name, choose a location to store the movie,
make sure the "View project after export" option is NOT selected,
    then click the Finish button.
    17. Now you may close MenuBuilder. You are finished with it.
    We go back to Captivate.
    18. In Captivate, open the slide with the link you wish to
use to open the document. The goal here is to click Insert >
Animation... and suck in the .SWF you created using MenuBuilder.
19.Then position that over an image or something that will
clue your user to click it.
    I've follow all the step
    but in NO.8 & No.9
If I just type the file name (and no link)
I can't place a check mark in the "Save file with project"
    check box
and when I import the swf into Captivate
    It will show a message:
"Adobe Captivate - Captivate link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?"
and After burning in to CD
I can't open the PDF link file!
and it will jump out a ERROR:F sign! (actually what is the
    "F" means? FXXK? haha~)
After several times try and error
I've slightly make some changes at NO.8 procedure:
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
(I've choose and place the file with whole link & file
    name,
which is: C:\Unzipped\Captivate testing\D herbal tea
    Leaflet(C).pdf
and then now I can check the "save file with project"
    checkbox)
after output to a swf and insert animation in captivate
although captivate also show the "Adobe Captivate - Captivate
    link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?" message
but now i can open the link file (in same folder with .exe
    publish file)
    in any other computer!
I've checked the action script inside the link.swf which i've
    created, and get the result:
    // Action script...
    on (release)
    var szArg = "D herbal tea Leaflet(C).pdf";
    var szWindow = "_blank";
    if (_root.FlashPlayer == "1")
    getURL("FSCommand:execfile", szArg);
    else
    getURL(szArg, szWindow);
    } // end if
it shows the file name only!
    Now it's no problem!
PS: U cannot open the link file under preview mode
    it won't open
    but after publish into .exe
u can open the link file!
Sorry my english is very poor
anyone don't understand can download my testing project from

  • Click box used to open pdf file problem

I want to give learners the chance to open a pdf file with additional information from a link to a click box. I want learners to be able to close out of the pdf and return to the same screen in the lesson when they finish reading the pdf. Currently it is not behaving as I expected.
I have set the click box link using 'On Success, open URL or pdf 'and selected the 'New', 'Continue playing project' attributes.  I have been using the various Preview modes to test out functionality and find it works as expected; that is a second window opens with the pdf which can be closed, leaving the main screen unaffected. In HTML Browser mode to puts out a new tab which I can close to return to the main lesson. I don't like this option as well.
We are now down to my questions:
Is there a way to display the secondary file as an independent pdf file rather than a tab, like it does in the Preview mode, 'from this slide'?
Also, is there a way to stay on this parent slide once I return, then open up the same secondary window again if I want? Currently if I try, I'm passed along to the next slide rather than have the secondary window open again.
    Thanks for your help.

    HI there
The option "continue playing project" needs to be DE-selected. With it selected, when your user clicks the Click Box, play will resume.
There is no way I'm aware of to influence the browser behavior as it's up to the configuration on each user's PC as to whether you see a new window or a new tab.
    Cheers... Rick

  • What is Current, New, Parent and Top in Click Box for Open URL or File?

    Hi,
I would like to know what is the definition for Current, New, Parent and Top options in the click box parameter if I want to open a file?
    Regards,
    Jac

    Hi there
The only way I can fathom that happening would be if you had a hidden slide with a Click Box on it that was already configured. Then you would copy the Click Box object and paste it where you want it.
Other than that, sorry but the answer is that you can't.
You might wish to suggest this as an option that Captivate would offer. You would do this by filling out the Wish Form. (Link is in my sig line)

  • Click boxes revert to continue when file moved

For a long time I have been the only Captivate user in my department as a result, I just left the primary file on my hard drive and just put copies in our network drive as a backup. When I did this, I just opened it to make sure it didn't get corrupted and then closed it without actually playing it.
Then recently my co-worker started using Captivate as well and we started collaborating so I had both of us put copies of our files on the network (keeping our original files on the respective hard drives for safety purposes). I opened her file and tried working with it when I noticed something - all the click boxes she had set to jump to specific slides had reverted to "Continue."
We quickly checked my network copies and the same thing was happening.
Thinking maybe it was the network causing that somehow, my co-worker tried copying the file from her laptop to her desktop with the same results.
Any ideas what is causing it and how to fix it?  We are both using Captivate 6 from Tech Communications Suite 4. (We do plan to upgrade to suite 5 shortly.)
    Thanks in advance

  • Can't click on links in an email and successful launch browser/link. Get a "General failure" error message. "A failure occured sending the command to the application."

This started happening after I updated my firefox version - exactly why I'm usually reticent to do so. If I click on a link or image in an email I get the aforementioned error message. Please help.

Is Firefox your default browser? You have to have a default browser because the email client just sends out a notice to the default browser.

  • How can i get a right-click click box to work?

I am using Captivate 7 and to accurately mimic the software I have inserted multiple right-click click boxes but without success. After reading previous posts, I have tried the following:
    - publishing to SWF and HTML5
    - publishing to the default folder and launching the HTML from there (i can see .css and .js files in the folder as well)
    - unchecking "Enable Accessibility" in Publish Settings
I'm very new to Captivate so any help or advice you can give on this would be great.
    Thanks

  • Button/click box click more than once

Hi, I'm hoping you guys can point out what I'm doing wrong...
I have an image where the user can click on certain parts of
it to display a callout. However, I want them to be able to click
on the area of the image more than once if requried. I suppose you
can say it's a bit like an image map.
First I used click boxes to achieve this, then I tried using
transparent buttons. However for both of these methods you can only
click on each part once during playback. Clicking again does not
    show the callout.
I thought about copying the contents to another slide and add
a 'Reset' button the user could click on. This would move to the
other slide, but this seems a bit on the 'clunky' side, so I
thought there must be a setting or something really obvious that I
have missed. I was unable to find the relevant informaiton in the
help file or elsewhere in the forum, so if it does exist I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
How can I allow the user to click on parts of the image more
than once to show the callout?
    Thanks for your help,
    Liz

    Thanks for your reply Rick.
I started the activity using rollovers, but I wanted the user
to do something more definite than just hovering over each part of
the image. So essentially, I want the rollover functionality but
with the ability to click instead of just hovering the cursor over.
I thought this would be easy!
I've tried using both buttons and click boxes without any
success. I ventured a little into slidelets, but I want the callout
to appear in a very specific place and this did not appear to
satisfy my requirements. The 'click to stick' sounds intriguing so
I'll take a look into this, but I'm not convinced it's what I want.
Any more suggestions are most welcome.
    Regards
    Liz

  • Can a click box be used if multiple options to a questions?

I was trying to have the student need to click on multiple options for a question.
The situation called for the student to have to click on four different items that were correct out of a group of six items.  I put success captions on the four correct and failure messages on the 2 that were incorrect.
Following are my settings for each of the click boxes:
Action:       On success  - continue      Attempts:    infinite
    Options:  Success or Failure
Pause for success/failure, Show hand over cursor, pause until user clicks
The screen fades out before the user can read and select all their choices  (I have the timing for the screen set at 10 sec)
I have an image button on the page labeled Continue that the user needs to click on before continuing.  It is set at:   Action: on success, continue, infinite attempts
Is this the right standard object to use for this purpose, and if it is, what settings do I need to make it work?
    Thanks for the help

You need to use Advanced Actions to achieve your desired result.
The default behaviour of Captivate interactive objects is to Continue play as soon as you click them.  But there's a trick you can use to prevent this by having the On Success or On Failure action execute an Advanced Action instead that assigns the value of the variable rdcmndGotoFrame with the value of rdInfoCurrentFrame.

  • Multiple click boxes on one slide; Pausing project

    I'm using Captivate 5.5.
I have four click boxes on a slide.  Three click boxes upon clicking show an image and then show a success caption.  The forth click box shows a success caption but also is set to "pause project until user clicks."
Unfortunately, if any of the three click boxes are clicked it advances the playhead even though the forth click box was never clicked.  How can I pause the project until only the forth click box is activated no matter if the other three click boxes have been previously clicked?

    Hello,
Default behavior of click boxes is to trigger the simple action that is assigned to it AND at the same time to release the play head. Even if those 3 click boxes had a pause, at the same moment as the fourth, this would have happened. If you put the pausing point of the fourth click box later than the pausing of the first three, it will work fine if the user clicks only one out of 3 click boxes.
If you replace the simple action by a (eventually one-line) advanced standard action, the play head is not released:

  • Attaching files to a click box

I am constructing an elearning module that requires the
learner to print out and evaluate 5 journal articles before taking
a post test. I am able to attach one file per click box just fine.
In the published version, I am able to access two articles (by
clicking on the click boxes), but when I click on a third article
(the third click box), I can access the file, but get kicked off
the page. Is there a way I can fix this so that my learners can
access all 5 files without being kicked off the published page? (I
can certainly work around this by attaching only 2 files per slide,
but I would prefer to put all 5 click boxes, each containing a
journal file, on one slide). Thanks!

    Hi "brbtrain",
Reading your post is like accidentally wandering into the
middle of a personal conversation between two persons and realizing
    you are the only one who hasn't a clue . . . I guess a good place
to start might be your terminology; in what format is a "journal
article" and what is it's function in what you are trying to do.
What is a "post test" and why is important to the problem? And so
    on ...
Try to explain your problem again, but this time, pretend we
are not sitting there with you, and have no idea what you are
looking at or what your end-users are supposed to view (or save, or
    download) and how.
    Thanks.

  • Change default "on success" behavior for click box?

    Hello,
I create a lot of pptx --> Adobe Captivate eLearnings, and as you know, when the slides are imported, they are given a click box, which when clicked, advance the user to the next slide. I want to keep the click boxes to stop the project at the end of each slide,  but dont want the user to be able to interact with it. (I have a customized navigation bar)  I can achieve this by changing the "on success" behavior to "no action".  Question -- do i have to do this for every click box?  Unfortunately, I cannot apply this to all click boxes like I can apply the timing settings, for example.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Ryan

As far as I know....and hopefully someone can correct me (I would be curious for sure)... but I don't think you can change the properties of multiple click boxes across slides all at the same time. Other items like buttons and smart shapes can be visually adjusted using the Object style manager, but as far as On Success options and such...unless you select them all in a given slide, you can't. Clickboxes can't even be added to master slides unfortunately. If the clickbox can be in a common place across slides, I would delete all of the clickboxes except the first, make the necessary changes to that one, then do a ctrl+c for copy, and then just paste it into all of the remaining slides. Again, I hope there's an easier way someone can share.

  • Click Box-Opening a Secure Link?

Having some difficulty getting a click box to open a link to
a secure web page on an internal network. Scenario:
    1) Click box entered using an HTTPS link that accesses an
    internal tool used by employees.
    2) Requires the employee to be logged in to the tool to work.
    That's ok.
    3) Link is set to open in a new window; open URL/File.
    4) Click box works in PREVIEW mode, does not work when
    launching the published file.
    Any ideas?
    Chuck

    Hello again
I'm assuming you mean "Preview mode" to mean that you are
previewing from inside Captivate. Is that a correct assumption? If
so, it's quite common to see things behave differently as you
aren't truly operating as the end user will see things.
If you preview in the web browser you are actually seeing a
temporarily compiled version of the file and it should behave
identically to the way it will after you publish it. In this mode
as well as after you publish, the files are actually being executed
off your local hard drive. And from the Flash Player perspective,
that's a dangerous area so it restricts things until you pat it on
the head and assure it the world won't end if it allows the
    linking.
When you adjust the security settings, you are advising the
Flash Player that the location you nominate is "safe" to execute
    content from.
Does that make sense? Hope so... Rick

  • How do i create this kind of click box?? HELP

    Hi There,
How do i create a click box that when you double click it a
black dot is displayed. Im sorry if im not being clear. I mean a
dot in the middle of a circular click box. When you click multiple
    choice, sort of.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
    Simona

    Hi Simona
If I'm understanding you correctly, you are referring to what
used to be known as a "Radio Button" and is now preferred by
Microsoft to be called an "Option Button". Captivate doesn't allow
these to be created. One possibility is to use two images to
achieve the effect. The "Unfilled" or "Un-Selected" image on one
slide and when clicked it would display the 'Filled" or "Selected"
    image on the next slide.
    Cheers... Rick
