Help me please with java.lang.outofmemoryerror

For anyone who considers themselves a java expert....could you please be of assistance? I have been chatting at www.bodyforlife.com for several weeks now and all the sudden I can't get in. I do know that other people are still able to get in as well. When I try to connect applet initializes and then says applet started when I try to enter then nothing happens. My java console says java.lang.outofmemoryerror. I have Windows 2000 and am running a Mcaffee firewall. Does anyone have any idea why I all the sudden can not get into this chat room? I have everything enabled that I know of. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

you need to make periodic writes to persistent storage. This is a common scalability issue. At some point you will always run out of memory.
Increasing usable memory will not necessarily fix your problem. Maximum virtual memory is around 2GB on most Windows systems. If your entries take up more than "4 bytes" each, then you will never have enough memory.

  • XML Publisher report failing with java.lang.outofmemoryerror.

    Hi,
    We have developed a custom Oracle report that produces an XML output file that is about 13M in size (about 18K rows from the database). When running report as concurrent request, post processing fails with java.lang.outofmemoryerror. The failure occurs when specifying output format as Excel, RTF or HTML. However, the process completes successfully when specifying output format as PDF. We have also noticed that Excel, RTF and HTML will complete successfully if the XML data file is smaller (around 3M).
    Is anyone aware of a restriction on the size of the XML data file when specifying output formats Excel, RTF or HTML? We have tried setting temp directory but that has not helped.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I found this at metalink [Note:390968.1].. hope it helps =)
    Symptoms: When attempting to run an XML Publisher concurrent program the following error occurs:
    ERROR: Warning!!! Got out of memory exception, retrying with scalable option..
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    Oracle.apps.xdo.oa.cp.JCP4XDODataEngine
    Program exited with status 1
    Solution: To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
    1. Login select the responsibility: System Administrator.
    2. Navigate to Concurrent > Program > Define.
    3. Query for concurrent program that is receiving the error.
    4. In the 'Options' field please enter -Xmx512M.
    5. Save the change and retest the issue.
    6. If the report still fails with the option set to -Xmx512M change the value to -Xmx1024M, save and try again
    7. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

  • Trouble with  "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

    Hello,
    I use a Java-based modeling tool that very few out there are probably familiar with. This tool allows me to run models (program) from within the development environment, to create Applets or create jar files that can be executed in a stand-alone fashion.
    I am using a database on my local harddrive to read in some data using JDBC, so am not using the Applet option with certificates. The development environment is expensive, so can't be distributed. That leaves the stand-alone option.
    The model (program) I've written runs perfectly fine in the development environment and, previously, has worked fine as a stand-alone program. However, the stand-alone option isn't working anymore, because I keep getting this error.
    I am not much of a Java programmer; I'm learning as I go along. If anyone can help me solve this, I'll be most appreciative

    Is there any way I can find out what it is set to for my system? I dont believe its 32Mb and dont want to increase it randomly to too large a size if theres no need for it.

    Read,

    Regards,
    Kanchan

    Hi Kanchan,
    Few things you could do here is,
    1. Check GC logs to check if Garbage collector selected is able to release un-referenced objects. Logs will give you hint about possible memory leak.
    If you have not set debug GC logs then set it using -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCApplicationStoppedTime -XX:+PrintGC -Xloggc:/logs/server1_gclogs.txt
    2. Would prefer to take heap dump on OOM and use any tool like jhat or MAT to analyse. It will help in deciding if you require any performance tuning at JVM level. sometime it happens that heap space allocated is tool low causing OOM.
    For taking heap dump either set it as JAVA option - "*-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError*"
    or
    using Sun tool "jmap"
    $ jmap –heap:format=b <pid>
    Thanks,

  • XML Publisher report ends in Warning with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    Hi,
    We are modifying the standard report Account Analysis Report (in Subledger Accounting) to create a custom report.
    When run wide open, it is ending in Warning with the error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError in OPP Log.
    We are on EBS 12.1.3. DB 11.2.0.3 and XML Publisher 5.6.3
    We have set the below parameters in the data definition:
    Use XML Publishers XSLT processor: True
    Enable Scalable feature of XSLT processor: True
    Enable XSLT Runtime optimization: True
    Also we have added these to the Data template:
      <property name="db_fetch_size" value="20" />
      <property name="scalable_mode" value="on" />
    On the concurrent program, we have this option set:
    -ms1024m -mx2048m
    Still, the program is ending in Warning and not producing output. Any pointers here?
    We can also see that the Temporary Directory is not able to be set on the data definition. Why is this?
    After setting the Temporary Directory from Administration page, we were able to set the temporary directory for this data definition, but that did not solve the iseue.

    Glad you have sorted this - note that the fnd_concurrent_requests table has the fields pp_Start_date and pp_end_date which will show how long post processing is taking.
    Good to a good idea to monitor this in relation to the setting you have made in the profile option Concurrent:OPP Timeout profile option though 3 hours should cover most things!!!!

Just because the exception is being thrown during saveChartAsPNG() does not mean that's the culprit. All that means is it was the final straw.

  • Dbca errors out with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

    hi gurus
    I am trying to use DBCA to create a 10.2.0.4 database on a HP platform.DBCA hangs at the step 6 and following message can be seen in the
    trace.log:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    I googled and modified the DBCA scripts content from
    # Run DBCA
    $JRE_DIR/bin/java -Dsun.java2d.font.DisableAlgorithmicStyles=true -DORACLE_HOME=$OH -DDISPLAY=$DISPLAY -DJDBC_PROTOCOL=thin -mx128m
    -classpath $CLASSPATH oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca $ARGUMENTS
    to
    # Run DBCA
    $JRE_DIR/bin/java -Dsun.java2d.font.DisableAlgorithmicStyles=true -DORACLE_HOME=$OH -DDISPLAY=$DISPLAY -DJDBC_PROTOCOL=thin -mx256m
    -classpath $CLASSPATH oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca $ARGUMENTS

    How to solve this problem?

  • Two versions of code, one compile failure with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    I Have two cvs versions of one package. The differences between the two are minor, and I'm only trying to make the root version look like the latest branch. When I compile the branch, which has more code, things are fine. When I comple the root version I get
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryErrorSInce I can compile one version, it is clearly not the case that I lack RAM or something like that. What might the problem be? Thanks.
    Ken

    I'm compiling and I'm doing it with ant. As I said,
    it works fine with a slightly updated version of the
    Java package I have, but has this error while doing
    the same compile on the cvs root version of the
    package. I'm just trying to prepare for mergning the
    new code but can't compile the basic version of the
    package.Then, as already stated, the difference between the two versions is enough to cross the threshold of heap memory available to the VM that's running the compiler. Ant lets you provide VM options to an externally invoked VM. See its docs for how. If you're using fork="false", then just change or add -Xmx in ant.bat or ant.sh.

    I'm Facing the following error when uploading 100 M learning material although i have changed the server properties of OC4J java heap size to 1024 - 2048 and maxpermsize to 1024
    JSP Error:

    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    Thanks,
    Regards.

    PLease refer Husain comments below
    "Please see these docs.

    apart from the above what I would normally is, while zipping the file I would exclude heavy content file and upload the file.
    after uploading file, just go and paste excluded file in respective folder.

  • [b]java.lang.OutOfMemoryError.......PLEASE HELP A.S.A.P.!!!!!![/b]

    I am currently writing code for a database software using Joins, Collections, Vectors, etc. and when running the code I keep getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. The thing is that I have a parser that parses through different XML files and Java files. It seems as though some of my collections need more space or something else doesn't have enough memory for the parser to pick up everything. It only happens after I add a new constrainable or selectable to the XML file and try and run Queries with that (at least that is where I think the problem is). At this point I have no clue as to what is going on. Could someone please help me out.
    Thanks in Advance!

    This is touching on the obvious but can you refer to your logs and find out where your program is running out of memory. I have a sneaky suspcion your're in a loop with an condition gone horribly wrong.
    Based on your system specs, your collections should be able to handle your data.

  • Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError(please help me )

    Hi All
    here my java class trying to read a txt file(which is having size of 60MB).and putting each line into a Vector class. problem is ,upto certain number of line it is reading properly and putting into vector..after that it is giving error like Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError..what is the problem and how to rectify this one..anybody help me on this.
    actual situation is one txt is there in that 80 lakhs of lines of content is there..java file trying to read each line and put it into vector or stringbuffer and split it into two lines like key=value and put it into hashmap object.then finally iam creating new file(.properties) and writing these hashmap data on it. if you want clearly..please look into below code..
    package test.utf8; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class AssetUtils
    //static StringBuffer stringbuffer = new StringBuffer();
    public AssetUtils()
    public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException
    BufferedReader bufferedreader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("D:\\list.txt")));
    Vector vector = new Vector(0x30D40, 50000);
    System.out.println(vector.capacity());
    Object obj = null;
    int n=0;
    System.out.println("Reading list:" + new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    do
    String s = bufferedreader.readLine();
    //System.out.println("line no: "+ ++n);
    if(s == null)
    break;
    vector.add(s);
    } while(true);
    System.out.println("List Read complete:" + new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    String s1 = args[0];
    System.out.println("S1: "+s1);
    System.out.println(vector.capacity());
    HashMap hashmap = new HashMap();
    System.out.println( "Vector.Size..>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.."+vector.size());
    for(int i = 0; i < vector.size(); i++)
    System.out.println("i value:"+i);
    String s2 = (String)vector.get(i);
    //System.out.println("S2: "+s2);
    if(s2.indexOf("/") != -1)
    String s3 = s2.substring(s1.length(), s2.length());
    //System.out.println("S3: "+s3);
    if(s3.indexOf("/") != -1) {
    String s4 = s3.substring(0, s3.lastIndexOf("/"));
    //System.out.println("S4: "+s4);
    String s6 = s3.substring(s3.lastIndexOf("/") + 1, s3.length());
    //System.out.println("S6: "+s6);
    StringBuffer stringbuffer=null;
    stringbuffer = new StringBuffer();
    String s8 = (String)hashmap.get(s4);
    //System.out.println("S8: "+s8);
    if(s8 != null) stringbuffer.append(s8 + "," + s6);
    else
    stringbuffer.append(s6);
    hashmap.put(s4, stringbuffer.toString());
    //stringbuffer.delete(0,stringbuffer.length());
    stringbuffer=null;
    System.out.println("Opening asset.properties:" + new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    File file = new File("D:\\asset.properties");
    PrintWriter printwriter = new PrintWriter(new FileOutputStream(file));
    String s5;
    String s7;
    for(Iterator iterator = hashmap.keySet().iterator(); iterator.hasNext(); printwriter.println(s5 + "=" + s7))
    { s5 = (String)iterator.next(); s7 = (String)hashmap.get(s5); } printwriter.close();
    System.out.println("Closing asset.properties:" + new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));

    Theres a number of ways you can improve your memory usage:
    1) Build you map as you read in your file.
    2) Use StringBuffers in your map - do not use "asshaj" + "ashaskj" This is very memory intensive
    If you still run out of memory try running the JVM using -Xms128m -Xmx512m or higher

    Also, describe your project set up. Sometimes these things can happen if your workspace is not configured correctly (like two library projects that import each other for example).
    And I assume you checked to make sure you aren't actually out of RAM?
    *edit*
    Also, you mention editing eclipse.ini, but I think you actually need FlashBuilder.ini in your FB install directory. Mine looks like this:
    -nl
    en_US
    -startup
    eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.0.v20100507.jar
    --launcher.library
    eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.1.1.R36x_v20100810
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    -vmargs
    -Xms256m
    -Xmx512m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    -XX:PermSize=64m
    -Dorg.eclipse.equinox.p2.reconciler.dropins.directory=eclipse/dropins
    -Declipse.application=com.adobe.flexbuilder.standalone.FlashBuilderApplication
    If you are doing something that's particularly memory intesnive, try changing:
    -Xmx1024m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=512m

  • Please help me! Error message : java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    Hello, I am a new learner on Java ME. I have done a simple shooting game in Java ME. I am using multiple threads on that and when I run the program in Sun Java Wireless Toolkit, the error message "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" appear. May I know what is the cause of this problem? Is it because of too many threads running at the same time or ..? Any suggested solution on this? Thanks.

    Hello,
    I try to assign all class object as null, but the problem still there. My game has 3 stages. For example, after the first stage, I would like to clear the memory buffer like the heap memory, then only load the second stage. Otherwise, the memory may not enough when the stages increased. So, is there any other way to clear the buffer for garbage collection?
    In my game, it has a menu. The menu has the option like "New Game", "Help", "Exit". Whenever the game is start, the menu will add-in another option - "Continue", which will allows user back to the game and continue it.
    Everytime when I select "New Game", the game will start running, and when I press for menu, the game will pause automatically and then show the menu list. In this case, the game is still in the memory, but in paused state. If I choose "New Game" from the menu, it means it will restart a new game.
    My problem is that when I restart a new game, the heap memory still keeping the previous game. How could I delete the previous game's memory, so that whenever the new game is selected, the heap memory that store previous game would be cleared and the memory buffer will always store the current game only?
