HELP!!! multi-class program

I have to write a program which uses the code below (Input3). I need to create a Team class and a Player which will draw the info from Input3. These three classes will then be executed through a Main class. I need to be able to store, display, and sort the teams and players by alphabetical order. I don't even know where to begin.
public class Input3
     private String[] input = new String[40];
     private static int StringNum = -1;
     public static final int NUMBER_OF_TEAMS = 3;
     public static final int NUMBER_OF_PLAYERS = 5;
     public Input3()
          //The first six inputs will be for the first team
          input[0] = "LAKERS";
          input[1] = "Kobe Bryant";
          input[2] = "Derek Fisher";
          input[3] = "Shaquille O'Neal";
          input[4] = "Karl Malone";
          input[5] = "Brian Cook";
          //The next six inputs will be for the second team
          input[6] = "MAVERICKS";
          input[7] = "Antoine Walker";
          input[8] = "Dirk Nowitzki";
          input[9] = "Tony Delk";
          input[10] = "Shawn Bradley";
          input[11] = "Travis Best";
          //The next six inputs will be for the third team
          input[12] = "KNICKS";
          input[13] = "Mike Sweetney";
          input[14] = "Allan Houston";
          input[15] = "Howard Eisley";
          input[16] = "Kurt Thomas";
          input[17] = "Shanon Anderson";
     //This method returns the strings one after the other.
     public String getNextString()
          StringNum++;
          return input[StringNum];
}

if I could maybe just get a little help or an example of how to read and store that data into a string array in the team class (Team.java) then I could maybe figure out how to do the rest. the book i have i worthless. my professor doesn't teach. so basically I'm just trying to do what i can to "learn" and get this stuff to work.

  • GUI, JFrame, JPanel, ActionListener, simple multi-class applications

    My assignment calls for:
    "Create a Frame class"
    "Create a Panel class which implements ActionListener. Add JLabels, JTextFields, JButtons to the panel"
    most of this is pretty straight forward right out of GUI examples from my textbook
    but I don't have much experience with running multi-class programs, and this one is a bit more complicated b.c we have to use implement and possibly extend modifiers, which are new to me
    any thoughts?

  • HELP!....GUI crashes when i call a multi-threaded program from it

    Hi..I have encountered a problem in my end of year project, which i cant see to solve. The problem is i am starting a multi-threaded program for a JButton on a GUI. All though this starts the other program it crashes the GUI completely how do i stop this.
    this is the code i use to call the threaded program.
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
    Object target=e.getSource();
    String line = new String();
    if( target==b1 )
         try
    cl = new client();
         cl.startup();
         catch(Exception ex){ex.printStackTrace();}
    thanks Mike

    No there is no exceptions being given. this is one of the reasons why i dont no what to do. i thought myself that the threaded was taking all the resources and not going back to the GUI. if this is the case is there anyway that i can call back the GUI and keep the threaded program running?
    thanks
    mike.

  • Error msg Could not find the main class.Program will exit. in jar execution

    Hello,
    I have created a jar so that I can used it in the webapp.
    but when I click on it it says "Could not find the main class.Program will exit."
    I searched a lot in the net and found that it has to do with the manifest file.
    I even updated the manifest file using the command "jar umf main.txt filefolderupload.jar" with the class name mention along with the package heirarchy.
    (pakage heirarchy in /,\ and .)
    I am using JDK 1.5 . and have Updated JRE 1.6.
    Also tried with extending the class with JApplet, but in vain.
    Kindly help me in the above mention issue.

    This post hints at a number of misunderstandings on your part, and raises a couple of important questions.
    Note that this 'simple question' has a complicated answer. Given the complexity of it, it might pay to add Dukes to it, ..a lot of Dukes.
    The important questions are.
    1) Does this file/directory uploader need to provide the end-user with a file dialog in which they can choose a local directory to upload, or will a multi-file chooser do?
    2) Does this uploader need to upload to foreign sites, or does it upload back to its own server?
    Looking at this table I prepared to describe the [uploader/local file access|http://pscode.org/test/uploader/fileuploader.html] possibilities, if the answers to the questions are 'multi-file chooser will do' and 'home site only', the best option is a sandboxed app. launched using webstart (JNLP) - option 5. If either of those questions go the other way, option 6 (digitally signed with extended permissions) is needed.

  • Execute jar file: "could not find the main class" program will terminate

    Hey,
    I am new to Java. I have started to make a small java program which supposed to help me at my studies to lean the Dominic Memory System. I have used the latest version of Netbeans 5.5.1 to build my program in. I have two problems which I cannot figure out how to solve, please help me.
    The first problem is that the java script I have made works when I compile it in Netbeans, but when I create a Jar file it does not work. I receive a pop up message in windows ?could not find the main class program will terminate? when I execute the jar file.
    The second problem I have is that I need to compare the strings generated by the "numbers" and "TIP" and if the numbers is not identical the numbers in the ?Center? JPanel should be highlighted as red.
    If anyone would like to clean up the code I would be pleased. I have copied quite a lot from anyone because of my one lack of knowledge.

    You can't really believe that his brother did this

    I first looked it over, but you know, if it had been
    his brother, I'd be kinda impressed. This wasn't a
    25 line program. It actually would have required
    SOME thought. I doubt my brother woulda done that
    for me (notwithstanding the fact that I wouldn't need
    help for that program, and my brother isn't a
    programmer).I originally missed the comments at the top but when I saw the complexity of what was written then I knew that it was too advanced for a beginner and I relooked through the code and saw the comments.

  • Can't find main class - program will end

    Dear forum readers,
    Recently upgraded from Win2k pro to XP pro .. installation ran to conclusion w/ no fatal errors BUT upon booting new system I now receive an error message "Java Virtual Machine Launcher can't find main class, program will end" .. I am not aware that this error is causing any problems BUT it is annoying and I'd like to be able to fix the problem so I don't have to close the error message at each startup .. please help!
    Thanks in advance, Larry

    Try this
    java -XbootClasspath/a -jar <<Prog name>>
    I think you are trying in windows XP.
    Also you need to modify if there are any other jars to be reference. For eg if a.jar is also required for this try as below
    java -XbootClasspath/a:a.jar -jar <<Prog name>>

  • Help with Paint program.

    Hello. I am somewhat new to Java and I was recently assigned to do a simple paint program. I have had no trouble up until my class started getting into the graphical functions of Java. I need help with my program. I am supposed to start off with a program that draws lines and changes a minimum of 5 colors. I have the line function done but my color change boxes do not work and I am able to draw inside the box that is supposed to be reserved for color buttons. Here is my code so far:
    // Lab13110.java
    // The Lab13 program assignment is open ended.
    // There is no provided student version for starting, nor are there
    // any files with solutions for the different point versions.
    // Check the Lab assignment document for additional details.

    Thanks.

  • Help with a Program I am writing!  Please!

    Hello All,
    This is my first post...I hope to find some answers to my program I am writing! A couple things first - I am 17, and have designed a comp. science class for myself to take while a senior in high school, since there was not one offered. My end of the 2nd term project is to write a program that encompasses the information I have learned about for the past two terms. I know the very basics, if that. Please help!
    My program involves the simple dice throwing program, 'Dice Thrower' by Kevin Boone. The full text/program write out can be found at:
    http://www.kevinboone.com/PF_DiceThrower-java.html
    I am hoping to add a part to this program that basically tells the program if the dice show doubles, pop up a little GUI window that says "You are a Winner! You Got Doubles!"
    I was thinking as I finished chapter 7 in my text book, that either an 'if/else' or 'switch' statement might be the right place to start.
    Could someone please write me a start to the program text that I need to add to 'Dice Thrower', or explain what I need to do to get started! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

  • Multi threaded programming

    I am quite new to multi threaded programming.
    The problem I am facing in my code is as follows:
    I can instantiate 1-10 threads from my controller class. For example if my controller class generates 10 threads, 5 threads
    finish the task they are assigned to do(i.e send SMS and Update the Database) and the other 5 threads eventhough send SMS but
    get stuck when they are supposed to update the Database (this is inferred from the logs).
    Due to this problem my controller class remains in a wait state as I am using the join() method and some of the threads never
    join.
    Another interesting observation is that it always happens that the thread numbered 0-5 always get stuck at the exact point
    where database has to be updated and thread number 6-10 complete their task. Same is the case when i instantiate 2 threads, i
    thread completes its task and another thread gets stuck, again at the same point.
    I am using Connection Pooling to connect to the database.
    I am sure that the problem is with the query
    int j=dbObject.execute_pst("UPDATE table SET flag='true' WHERE message IN("+trueFlag+")",con);
    where true flag is a comma seperated string containing some ID's.
    What i cannot understand is why some of the threads (almost 50% of them), work fine with this query and the others get stuck
    (i.e. just wait at this query during runtime)

    The problem must lie in the connection, as the SQL statement is to basic to cause an endless loop inside the DBMS. If you are in doubt, try the setMaxRows() method of the Statement interface, I'm using Sybase and it also limits the number of rows processed in update and delete statements (which I'm pretty sure is buggy, but you can still try it).
    Which DBMS are you using by the way?

  • "AT END OF" in Class Programming

    Hi,
    I want to know how to handle the following situation in ABAP within Class programming,
    DATA : BEGIN OF LCL_TRAN OCCURS 0,
            TRAN TYPE STRING
          END OF LCL_TRAN.
    DATA : BEGIN OF LCL_PROD OCCURS 0,
            PROD TYPE STRING,
          END OF LCL_PROD.
    DESCRIBE TABLE LCL_PROD LINES I_PROD.
    LOOP AT LCL_MAIN.
    READ TABLE LCL_PROD WITH KEY PROD = LCL_MAIN-PROD.
    IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
    I_MAIN = I_MAIN + 1.
    ENDIF.
    AT END OF TRAN.
    IF I_MAIN = I_PROD.
    // I will do the necessary action here
    ENDIF.
    ENDAT.
    ENDLOOP.
    At end of each transaction(Tran) which is a item level data i want to do some action. I need AT END OF statement to handle this situation.
    How to handle this situation in CLASS (SE24)?
    Thank you
    Arun Prasad

    Hi arun,
    classes basically we define for the purpose of <b>Encapsulation</b> principle of object oriented programming.
    So as BSP supports strongly Object Oriented Concept, so whatever logic we are implementing we will try to implement in class only.
    i have little doubt about what u asked, but still what i understand is that u like to know how to call the methods of a class from the BSP page, if this is the case, then ok, otherwise please let me know in detail.
    now i am assumming that i understand ur problem properly, so this is the solution according to that,
    suppose u created the class to search the name of sdn developers, lets class named as <b>zcl_sdn_search</b>.
    now u like to serach name of developers, for that their is a method in class named as <b>search_developer</b>.
    and we also have method to display Business card of that Devloper, named as <b>get_dev_data</b>.
    so here is the code which u have to write in onInitialization Event Handler.
    data: dev_tab TYPE dev_tab.
    CALL METHOD zcl_sdn_search=>search_developer
        EXPORTING
            developer = developer
            forum = forum
            keyword = keyword
        IMPORTING dev_tab = dev_tab
        EXCEPTIONS
            no_search_parameter = 2
            invalid_forum = 4.
    if sy-subrc = 4.
      navigation->goto_page( 'invalid_forum.htm' ).
    elseif sy-subrc <> 0.
      navigation->goto_page( 'error.htm' ).
    endif.
    IF sy-subrc = 0.
      CALL METHOD zcl_sdn_search=>get_dev_data
        EXPORTING
          dev_tab = dev_tab
        IMPORTING
          card_tab = card_tab
        EXCEPTIONS
          empty_input_table = 2
          invalid_dev = 4.
    ENDIF.
    so in the same manner u can call any method, and method contains the business logic or u can take any action depending on situation.
    so hope i helped u in some manner. if still u have something different in mind, so let me clear.
    Regards,
    kamaljeet

    This simply state that jvm was unable to fine Main Class file.
    I hope you have configured manifest file including your main file information and class path used by the project with proper package hierarchy,

    I differentiated the help providers with the "prefix" attribute in the <help-provider> tag. So now confliction is not occuring between those.
    I used this prefix in the "helpTopicId" property of the adf components like "input text box" . I got the result. :)
