Help-my ipod does crazy things

Hi. I recently got my ipod and am having trouble. First, every other time I plug in my ipod to my computer it says that the program that is needed can not be found. I have reinstalled itunes twice, and restarted my i pod multiple times. I also bought music and more than half will not play. My ipod will be playing on any setting (shuffle, playlist, etc.)and when it comes to certain songs it just starts to skip them and go to the next...Any advice? It is driving me crazy.

  • Help! Ipod does strange things when connected to a comp!

    hey guys,
ok my Ipod seems to not be able to work when connected to a computer.
My Ipod mini doesnt work at all when connected to a computer. After charging my Ipod for afew hours (i've noted it hasnt hit full power yet an will be waiting now till it is fully charged again till i retry) but i connect my ipod through a usb port (tried mulitple ports) and it immediately goes from almost full battery to saying "do not disconnect" then it starts audibly beeping and the screen changes to the screen telling me there is no battery power left.
The Ipod is not even charging while connected to the computer apart from the 1st few seconds of being connected. The ipod then stays on the screen of the graphic of the empty battery with the exclamation point.
Nowhere do i see the computer or Itunes recognising the ipod being connected, i only hear the sound the computer makes wen it disconnects after the ipod crashes.
Ipod only malfunctions when attached to a computer and works normally when playing music.
    thanx for any help guys
    - Spruce

ok update, ive now charged the ipod (left it for approx 10 hours) with the screen showing it was charging. After the approx 10 hours it hadnt reached full. I disconnected the ipod mini and tried to listen to 1 song and it told me the battery was empty.
im now assuming the problem has only to do with just the battery.
    Anyone got any ideas?

  • Editing in aperture is doing crazy things. I've read that it is memory leaks. Whats the cure?

Aperture is doing crazy things while editing like leaving spots on faces when using skin smoothing tool among other things. Closing and reopening fixes it but how annoying. I've read that it is caused from memory leaks. What do I do to fix this?

    What is your Aperture version?
    And your MacOS X version?
With Aperture 3 make sure you have the latest versions, Aperture 3.5.1 and OS 10.9.3.
The memory leaks you are referring to occurred with MacOS 10.9.1 and onscreen proofing enabled.
If yor versions are current, check your plug-ins for compatibility.

  • IPad does crazy things when not touched

Basically, I'll be going along on an app or on safari or anything and then randomly my iPad will just start doing crazy things, and I can't do anything. So for example, I'll be on safari and then my iPad will scroll up to the top of the page, type in the address bar some random numbers and letters and just keep doing that. And then the only way (sometimes) to stop it is to lock the screen, but sometimes that doesn't even work and I then can't even unlock the iPad for a few seconds. I've tried restoring it but that doesn't do anything. Is there anything else I could try or should I just take it to a genius bar?

You may need to get it back to Apple, but this is worth a try if you haven't done it already.
Try a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad while holding down on the home button at the bottom, until the Apple logo appears and the iPad restarts. Launch any app, surf the net, whatever, and see what happens.

  • My ipod does weird things

So I have a 30g video ipod that I have had for about a year now. Lately it has been doing so really weird things. It will be fully charged but run out of battery in thirty minutes or less, and it takes it anywhere from ten to fifteen seconds atleast to do anything. Play a song, pause a song, go through menus, everything. I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas as to what is wrong or what I can do. My last resort would be sending it to apple.

Well, after getting NOWHERE with online help, I sent in my iPod for repair. After having it out of my possession for about 5 days Apple happily informed me that nothing is wrong.
    Yet, SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!
It still doesn't "start"* my iTrip. Even though mine works fine on my wife's Nano. And even though hers doesn't work on mine. And even though it doesn't always get recognized by the computer when plugged in. And even though when it does get seen by iTunes, iTunes (about half the time) thinks it is corrupt and needs to be reformatted.
Oh, and now it doesn't charge through the iTrip port anymore.
    But hey, nothing is wrong.
    Anyone with anything helpful?
And before anyone suggests it again, I've restored the thing several times.
*By start I mean that the iTrip (LCD) will turn on and begin transmitting. Most of the time I have to fiddle with turning the iPod off and on and/or resetting it to get it to finally work. That process usually takes about 15 minutes or so.

  • HELP MY IPOD WENT CRAZY

Hi i just recently bought a 30gb 5th Gen pod, and have been enjoying it, up until today, when during an update, my computer froze, and it absolutely wiped the ipod clean of all my music!! I had stuff on there that wasn't on my computer, and now i've lost it all. Can anyone tell me why this happened, and whether or not i should be worried that it might happen again?
Oh also since then, it won't let me play the music from my ipod through my computer - is there a way to resolve this too?!
    ARGGG this is so frustrating!!

I got a mini a couple of x-mas's ago and in about 6 months its screen went bananas. We restored it several times and tried all sort of the suggestions on the troubleshooting sites, etc., but to no avail. I had to return it. They sent me another last fall, and now this one is actin' a fool, too. I'm doing the 5 R's and all, but no good, and I haven't received any help since I've posted questions on here... I think this model is just funky. I love the software and the convenience of the mini itself, but I think I'm going to have to return this one too, and that's two times too many!

  • DVD Chapters Doing Crazy Things...

    Hi All,
I have a DVD which has 4 Episodes and a Menu. Each Episode has chapters. If the user is watching a movie and gets to the last chapter and then presses the remote to skip to the next chapter, the DVD automatically starts playing the next Epiode. I just want it to return to the Main Menu and the hit state to be selected on the next epsiode.... but not so that it starts playing automatically... Any ideas?
    Thanks Again!
    Tom

I think what you are experiencing is the correct behaviour. When the chapter skip forward button is pressed the player skips forward to the next available chapter (which can be in the next track).
Do you want to change this behaviour? If so, when you are in the last chapter of a track, disable the chapter skip forward button. Similarly, when you are in the first chapter of a track (representing an episode) disable the chapter skip back button - or the user will be able to go back to the previous track (episode).
    Fairly common practice, I believe.

My ipod touch 5th generation wont charge or turn on at all,
i upgraded to iOS 6.1.3 and after that my ipod started having trouble charging, at first i though the lightning cable was the problem so i bought 2 more lightning cable chargers and my ipod still would'nt charge, so it died. now the only thing my ipod does is when i try to turn it on it shows the apple logo and then the screen goes off and does it again for a few times and then the screen stays off and my ipod gets really hot but wont turn on for the rest of the day help!!

The hotness indicate a hardware problem.

  • Need help reformating Ipod! Driving us crazy! TRIED EVERYTHING!

Hey everyone well my friend has an Ipod and it recently just stopped working, and it would have the sad Ipod icon or the folder with an exclamation point. He lost the USB cord but does have the FireWire cord, and his laptop did not have the FireWire port so mine does so that is why I'm trying to fix it. But when I plug it into my firewire windows seems to recognized it, then it disappears. I switched between the ports. The one it worked and the one as I said it would work the dissapear. The one that did work, I would try using that ipod updater software and when I started using it it would say "Can't mount" or whatever.
We've tried getting it into disk mode, which has failed and so we're baisctly stuck
    Anyone have any help?
    Its a 20GB Ipod Photo

    Hi,
There are couples of problems here, you must deal with the "can't mount iPod" first.
Plug your iPod with your PC via the firewire cable, open my computer folder, and check the iPod drive no. If possible change it to something larger i.e. "M", "N" or "Y". Reboot your PC, open the iPod updater and plug the iPod back, and wait for few minutes, hope it will allow you to do the Restore.
If does not work, then read the following for the Sad iPod
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

My ipod does not recognize touch all of a sudden. It is on, but I cannot use it because it won't recognize my touch! Help please!

-You stated: " It is on, but I cannot use it "
Does this mean that the iPod works fine but when you connect the iPod to your computer iTunes does not see - your iPod?
    - Have you tried:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    - If you really have OSX 10.6.x (not 10.5.8 as stated) try:
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
    - Have you tried another cable and USB port?
    - If the iPod is not working then there are other things to try.

WZZZ answered about where to get iStat. And do check the SMART status. If it is an overheating problem due to a fan or logic board problem, your hard drive is possibly cooking itself to death. If so it isn't a faulty hard drive even though the hard drive might fail. So assuming it's a temperature problem, even if you are able to repair things on the disk with software, that is working on symptoms, not causes. I could be wrong however.
RE: AppleCare: Your iMac came with one year of AppleCare (Apple's warranty program), but within the first year you can buy 2 more years. You have to extend by the one year anniversary of purchase of the computer. Your 10,1 is too old to still be in the first year, and since you asked what it was, I'm sure you don't have it. Bottom line meaning is that whatever this problem turns out to be, you'll have to pay for it. Unless there is something like this. It is for 2011 iMacs with certain Seagate drives. You can put in your serial number for fun, but it looks like yours is too old. Lastly, some people have had Apple help them anyway if it is just out of warranty, but many have not. Your machine is one of these. Type in 10,1 in the search box. Is there an Apple Store near you? Just b/c it's out of warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at by Apple. But no one here can say at all what Apple will or will not do.
Hope you get it taken care of!

One likely reason is the % battery is not that accurate because of the smaller battery capacity in the iPod compared to iPhone and iPad. Users why use a % battery app post that the % reading changes a lot.
