HELP - My Songs Are there but iTunes can't find them!!!

I just moved my iTunes library to a different drive and iTunes just gives me "!" next to the song files and tells me the song file isn't there.
Help!!

Edited:
Did you go to iTunes Preferences/Advanced/General/ and show iTunes the path to the new drive? If not, you need to do that.
The ones which will play are the ones iTunes can find. The " ! " ones are the songs iTunes thinks it can't find. If you quit iTunes and restart your system, the next time you open iTunes the checks should be gone.

  • My files are there but itunes can't 'see' them.

I recently relocated my itunes library using itunes own settings for where to put the ibrary, then running Conslidate.
Several random files are unable to be played, giving me the 'I can't find that file' message.
I looked into the XML file for two examples:
This is the XML for a song that iTunes CANNOT find:

Both file paths are valid - both real files exist in the listed folder.
I SUPPOSE I can go through my entire 12,000+ track library searching for randomly lost media links within iTunes, then use the 10+ clicks it takes PER TRACK to tell iTunes where the file is. Even though the path in the XML look accurate.
Any ideas? And please don't tell me to dump my iTunes library itl and xml files and start from scratch. I have dozens of playlists, layers smart playlists, etc. I can't even imagine getting all that setup again.

OK, here's what REALLY doesn't make sense.
After manually fixing a lost file, NOTHING in the XML changes. Not one single character changes in the XML file. I diff'd the whole file before and after - no difference. So, basically, it goes out and 'finds' it and updates something that we can't see to repair the connection, meanwhile we are left to think that this XML file has the library data in it.
Mind you, the media file(s) are present and accounted for in the file system - correct name and path and everything - before and after I go Locate the file when iTunes complains about it being missing..
iTunes is so overbloated, we can't even fix stuff when we see precisely how it is broken.

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

  • My pictures are there but i can't see them.

I went on iphoto to put on some picutres from my digital camera and the pics went on the computer fine but as i was editing the pics iphoto began to work really really slow. so i restarted and went back on but it's was still really really slow. now besides the fact that it's slow, when the program does show up my pics are there but i can't see them, all there is, is the outline of the box where the pics are but no pictures. i'm not sure if i got a bad file or a bug. so if anyone can help me out that would be great.

    Hi Ryan,
If you can give more information it would be great.
What kind of camera do you have?
What version of iPhoto are you running?
How much free space is on your HD?
You can try a rebuild to see if that might help. Get back with results.
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • My pictures are there but i can't see them help!!!

I need help i have iphoto 4 and something happened where it has the pictures there but i can't see them. Its 500 pictures in my libary but they are all blank put the outline of the picture and its shape. i imported new pictures and they show up but not my old ones please let me know what i did or how i can get them back also under photo library i have a sub folder titled recovered photos and recovered photos 1 but i don't have any options on how to recover them or get them back please help me i am very worried!
    thanks lisa

Here's a way to possibly preserve some of the roll information while importing the old library into a new one. With iPhoto 4 you have to remove the thumbnail files from the source library because V4 will import them as normal files and really mess up the new library. Here's how to go about it.
1 - duplicate the current iPhoto Library folder - (Command-D)
2 - run a search on just that folder as follows:
    TIGER:
    a. open the folder and type Command-F
    b. set Kind is Images and Size is less than 100KB.
    PANTER:
    a. select the old iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F
    b. set the search criteria to: Name contains "jpg" and Size is less than 100KB.
This will find all of the thumbnail files in your library.
    3. select them all in the Search Results window and drag to the trash.
4 - open iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, create a new library.
5 - select the File->Import menu option. Go to the old library folder that you just cleaned out and select it. Click on Import.
That will import just your full size photos and keep some of the roll organization. You will also have the original files of those you edited previously in there. You may want to go thru and get rid of the original or edited version as you see fit.
Once you're satisfied you've go all of your photos safely in the new library you can delete the old one and the duplicate of it that you made.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • My bookmarks are there but i can't see them.

I have bookmarked pages previously, but when i click on the bookmark button there are no bookmarks there, when i try to bookmark them again, it asks if i want to remove this bookmark, so i know they must be there but it won't show them.

Which folder is shown as the location of that bookmark?
You can click the down arrow or plus sign at the far right of the folder line in the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog, that opens if you bookmark that page a second time, to see the full tree list with the folder selected.

  • I purchased songs last night but I can't find them!??

I apologize if the answer to this question is somewhere in here but I browsed quickly and couldn't find it. (Kind of in a hurry!) I bought about 20 songs on Itunes and I can't find them in my library or anywhere in my acct! I clicked "Check for Downloads" and it said there were no new downloads. I tried purchasing one of the 20 songs again to see if it would tell me that I had already purchased and it did.... so the songs are somewhere! Can someone help or tell me where to look??!!

  • Apps on iDevices, but iTunes can't find them

I sync both an iPhone and iPad via iTunes on a Mac. There are a number of Apps I use on both devices that show in iTunes grey-ed out. When I double click on them a dialog box shows up that says iTunes can't find the App, would I like to locate it. It is not in my Mobile Apps folder. What happened? Where do I find it? The iTunes App Store shows that I have purchased and downloaded the apps. How can I get them back into iTunes... and not lose any data that's in them?

  • Apple TV knows my pictures are there but I can't see them

I have many years worth of pictures on my Windows 7 PC but I only choose to Home Share a couple of year's worth via our Apple TV.  Years 2011 and 2012 load up with no problems at all on the Apple TV and we can see all pictures within those folders.  But I'm having trouble with my 2013 folder.  All of my pictures in that folder from January 1 up through July 3 load just fine on the Apple TV but anything after that point shows up on the screen as a blank box with a "?" in it.  And then anything after about July 5 shows up no problem (so basically all of my pictures from July 4 are just boxes with "?").  Apple TV knows all of those in-between pictures are there...but it won't let us "see" them...just dozens of blank boxes between pictures that we can see.  Any thoughts?

  • All songs in My Playlist but iTunes 'can't find them'

New computer with Windows 7. Downloaded new version of iTunes without plugging in my ipod classic. When new version was installed I dragged and dropped my 'old' iTunes file from my backup into my 'new' itunes file. Attached my ipod and was asked if I wanted to aurhotize to this computer which I did. It then asked if I wanted to sync newly purchased or erase (not quite a quote). I opted to sync newly purchased. After that I only had the one newly purchased on my iPod and all the songs in my playlist were still there in my playlist. So I will admit I tried syncing a few more times - no go. Then I tried restoring my iPod to it's orginal settings and syncing again. After that I had no songs on the ipod and all the songs sitting in my playlist. Then I tried playing a song off the playlist on my computer and got the mesaage that it couldn't find them. I'm lost and frazzeld after having to restore everything else to this new beast and had saved my ipod for last but now I'm just hoping I haven't lost it for real. Any suggestions out there?

If you are in the UK, and the film studio allows re-downloading, and you are signed in with the same account that you bought them with, then they might show under the Purchased link under Quinklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page for re-downloading - if they don't show then check to see if they are hidden (hiding and unhiding).
But you should be keeping and maintaining your own backup of your downloads and noy rely on being able to re-download any item as they are occasionally removed from the store by the content provider (film studio, tv company, record company etc).

  • Somehow I have an iPhoto Library_2 but none of my earlier photos are there and I can't find them

I have no idea why I have an IPhoto Library_2 - I did not change anything at all and cannot find the original library.  I'm missing a lot of pictures from the last three years - any suggestions?

How did you search for your iPhoto Library? Have you tried to search with Find Any File? It will search in folders, that Spotlight will not show.
You can download Find Any File here:   http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
It is donation ware - free to use, but you can donate, if you use it frequently and like it.
If you cannot find your iPhoto Library by searching for its name, try to search for the contents as described here by Old Toad:
How do i get back my missing photos from iPhoto?
Old Toad's post describes, how to use Find Any File to search for a certain file, that is part of any iPhoto Library.

  • Mac Itunes 10.2.1 dozens of songs ! in front, itunes can't find them

After updating, with no other changes, DID NOT rename or change path to external NAS where songs are located, dozens/hundreds of songs can't be found by itunes. 2click on it and locate and say use for rest but no work, it would take me hours and hours to reset path for each song, imported an album it couldn't find, now it lists at least 3 duplicates, last time this happened I just deleted all the playlists and songs, then reinstalled everything - what a pain, there must be a better way and I can't believe I need to reinvent the wheel here.
Should I just pay apple to give me an answer or is there someone that has a definitive way to resolve this? Thanks for the upcoming answer.

not sure it will work for you but you might want to give the following a shot:
    _*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • Can't delete trash because items are locked, but I can't find them

When I used the mac backup software, it backed up EVERYTHING including applications and settings, etc. After I lost my harddrive, I replaced it from my external harddrive, but it put things on my computer that were already there on my new hard drive, like the application support and the caches. So, I dragged everything I didn't need into the trash, and attempted to delete them from my external hard drive (in my mac trash). However, nothing will delete, because it keeps stopping and saying things like "The operation cannot be complepted because the item 'wmphelp.htm' is locked. I will press continue, but there is an infinite number of things that are locked, and I always just end up pressing 'stop'. You might say just to unlock them, but I cant find them in the trash, there are too many folders, and too many locked items. I have about 5,700 items in my trash in all. And I can't drag it out of the trash either...it only copies it...
Is there a way to override what is locked? Change preferences of all? Force the trash to delete? It is making it so I can't even delete simple files and because of this I have no more room on my hard drive.
    What can I do???
P.S. I just now noticed that it is on a loop. 79 items that are locked, and then it starts over with the list. Ahhhhh!

Restart the Mac in safe mode holding the shift key on startup.
If Secure Empty Trash doesn't work from the File or Finder menu (I'm not at a Mac now, so I don't remember where that is found), try my software Force Empty Trash from this page*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/software.html
Given the number of files, wait a couple hours before double clicking the Trash to discover whether or not it has emptied.

  • HT201269 When I updated my wife's iphone 4s the last time to IOS 7 she lost all her contacts. I logged onto icloud because I thought they would have been save there but I can't find them.  My daughter and wife use the same Apple ID

About 2 weeks ago I plugged my wife's iphone 4S to our pc to update  it to IOS 7and backup her iphone info to icloud. When I was done my wife's iphone had my daughter's ipod info on it and I can't find my wife's info on icloud anywhere. My wife has about 6 years of business contacts on her iphone so she is rather upset. Is there a way to recover her contacts?

You don't have to wipe anything, but when you get a chance make sure you backed up to icloud.
What that means is your contacts inside of the phone either physically or liquid damaged. To check
which, you can look inside and if you see a little pink, that would give you a water damage. If you don't
see pink it means that you to many times plugged in that charger the other way or tried to. May be
used some other things to plug in. If you flash the light in you may be able to see those contacts.
If I were you, i would not believe me, good luck!
