Help needed by neophyte! - part 2

Searching the Support files yielded this:
"...error is caused by conflicts between Windows (XP and
2000) and the version of Macromedia Director used to create the
auto-run menu..."
Assuming that's the nature of the problem, how can I fix it
without going back into the original program? Thanks again for
putting up with this dumb dude!

The problem is that Director 6 was not certified to make
executables for
Windows XP (since XP wasn't released for several years).
Either
Director MX or MX 2004 (forgot which) is required to make
executables
that are guaranteed to work with XP.
I would spend a little more time with Sean's suggestion. In
every case
that I have seen with that error, changing the compatibility
options has
been successful. I would change it to Windows95 or windows98
compatibility. Also play with some of the other display
settings on the
Compatibility tab, like 256 colors and such. It almost always
works
with some combination of options.

  • Help needed by neophyte!

    Hi - first time poster, non-tech proficient user. I have an
    educational simulation created in Director 6 that will not run on
    laptops running XP although it works fine on desktop. The error
    message says "This program requires at least 3MB of virtual memory
    to run". Of course, there's much more than that. Not being a tech
    type or the original creator, I'm stumped. It would seem the
    problem is related to Director, not Windows. If I try to copy the
    program from my desktop to a CD and then run on my laptop, same
    error message. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Your best bet is to contact the authors of the project. They
    may have an
    updated version that is compatible with modern operating
    systems.
    > It would seem the problem is related to Director, not
    Windows.
    A little of both. Director 6 came out years before WinXP and
    couldn't
    anticipate that Windows would change how it reports RAM
    (bytes, KBytes,
    MBytes, etc.). Lots of software had to go through an upgrade
    to be compatible
    with XP.
    Because of this, searching Google for the phrase, "This
    program requires at
    least 3MB" pulls up around 76,800 hits
    (I have reason to doubt their hit
    counts these days) with work-arounds that may or may not
    work on every
    system.
    Here's one of them that even mentions Director 6.

    It the steps listed on that page have also been posted in

  • Help, need space bar parts

    Reposting this. I posted this in the 17" forum but I have a 12".....
    Took the space bar off to clean it (it was sticking) and have since lost the plastic modules that hold it in place. This part seems cheap but I can't find it anywhere!?! Does anyone know where I might find them?

    You did try eBay of course, right? There are a plethora of sellers who have these parts from the full keyboard itself, to just the keys. Go to eBay and punch this item no. into the search box for an exact hit (then you can look for people selling similar items).
    Item No.: 180129674587
    (No, I am not the seller)
    Make sure they also sell the plastic scissor mechanism with the key(s) and that it matches your PowerBook. Each generation of 12" PowerBook had their own style scissor mechanism and keys. Trying to pair a "new" key with an "old" board will not work.
    (Trust me. I found this out via research on the web, and personally at the Genius Bar when the employee tried to force a non-compatible key onto my keyboard).
    Also, you can buy them at places such as PowerBookMedic.com (direct link follows):
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Keyboards--Keys-p-1-c-440.html
    Better yet? This is the biggest secret of all. All I will say is, if you have an Apple Store nearby, just ask, and you might get lucky.

    Hello:
    I would trot back into the Apple store and have them fix the problem (or call Applecare with a warranty issue).  There is no sense in you wasting your time trying to troubleshoot things on a new computer.

  • Help needed I updated my ipad2 with iOS5 but few of my dashbaords are not working now can any one let me know how to downgrade the OS

    Help needed I updated my ipad2 with iOS5 but few of my dashbaords (HTML5) are not working now ,can any one let me know how to downgrade the OS as we have a meeting coming up .. its urgent

    Downgrading the iOS is not supported. If you are using Safari this try clearing its cache via Settings > Safari.
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Help Needed..Fingerprint Identification..Image Manipulation

    Norfolk State University Student (Help Needed):
    I'm working on Fingerprint Identification using image correlation and/or a feature-based approach.  First, Goal is to minimize the lines of the minutia so that they are one pixel thick.  What services does Labview offer that will help me accomplish this task??

    Hey Snakehead...,
    Have you tried improving your original image with better lighting, better camera, better lens, etc.? What image processing have you done already, or are you starting from scratch? I agree with AnalogKid in providing some sample images to the forum so we can get an idea of what you are working with. Have you performed any morphology processing on the image? Have you tried edge detection functions? There are numerous functions that NI provides with their NI Vision software that will help you process your image, it is just finding the right combination that is the toughest part. Last, if you do have the Vision software, I might suggest taking a look at the Vision concepts manual to get an idea of the different functions and their capabilities. Let us know what kind of images you are working with and what you have done so far, and last, what you would like to eventually see. Thanks, and have a great day.

  • Dealing with a dead laptop. Help needed

    I am a college student and my acer computer just died on me. It has been having problems for the longest time the plg only works when it wants to and the battery won't hold a charge. Now the computer won't even charge. So i have ordered a dell but is there a way that i can get all my info from the acer on to the dell without the acer even being able to turn on. And the acer is still under warranty but the customer service is horrible and i can never get on agnet to really help me order the parts i think  need.

    Hi there and welcome to the Community! It is very sad to hear about you laptop biting the dust. Your local Geek Squad can transfer the data from the Acer to the Dell without much problem, assuming the hard drive is in working order. Prices start at $99 depending on how much data you need transferred.

  • Forecasting the need of spare parts in Demantra

    Hello everyone,
    I would really appreciate if anyone who's had dealt with the following issue help us,
    The thing is - we want to forecast 3 different kind of items:
    1. Main items we sell - for examples - machines.
    2. Accessories for machines we sell. A certian accessory can be used with several type of machines. (Cables, Batteries etc.)
    3. Spare parts we need to keep in stock in order to provide repair services for our customers.
    Each machine we sell has a different set of spare parts used when repairing.
    The forecast for machines is a typical demantra model forecast.(sales forecast by the book).
    My question is regarding the forecast for the spare parts we need for repairs.
    We know that demand for a certain spare part is influenced by how many machines which use that part were sold to customers.
    Also - it depends how common is the use of that part when fixing those machines that need service.
    (some parts get broken more frequently etc).
    Also since we provide fixed price insurance for customers, they dont "see" spare parts price as a factor.
    (they dont naturally "buy" the parts).
    How can demantra tie the forecast for the spare part to sales history of machines? Can demantra forecast service ?(which behaves alot different than sales). It is obvious that forecasting demand for spare parts with looking only at each part's history will not provide best forecast results.
    Any insights anyone?
    I'm pretty sure most implementations faced that issue - regarding the forecast of parts for service -
    Would appreciate any reply,
    Thanks alot,
    Aaron.

    Hi Aaron,
    Per my understanding,you sell machines as well as their accessories.So forecasting for them is by the book where you would be using the demand for machine as well as for accessories..
    As far as the service parts' forecasting is concerned, Oracle has a seperate module for Service & Spare parts planning based on Demantra's forecasting engine.
    Spare Parts Planning(SPP) has the following features:
    1. Forecast accurately with built in Demantra's Forecasting engine
    2. Replenish spares based on Single plan model
    3. Distribute spares using SPP's plan
    4. One single UI to carry out all 3 above processes for improved productivity
    5. Forecasting based on Shipments, Spares Usage, and Returns
    6. Plan based on Service parts failure rates calculations
    7. Integrated with various APS modules like Demantra DM, CP, IO, and ASCP.
    From demantra's perspective you may try out the following:
    Since you provide fixed price insurance for customers,you would definitely be keeping track of the service provided like what spare was replaced and probably how many of the same spare have been replaced for a particular customer over a period of time. Also as per the insurance you must have specified that a particular spare would be replaced only x number of times within a span of say 6 months or 12 months.
    You may utilize these information to classify the spares based on the frequency of use viz. very frequent, medium frequent and less frequent and associate some factor to it.You can club this information as well as the spare parts demand coming out of the BOM (bill of material) of the machine along with each part's history and come up with a forecast that can be more relied upon.
    I hope this helps.

    Shekhar

  • Newbie extract help needed

    Hi all,
    I have a full Photoshop webpage layout file with several layers – and I need to extract parts of it to use on the website.
    I do know a little bit about slices – but I would prefer to not use that now. Rather I was thinking of saving a tiff file master with no layers – and simply copying pieces of this off as needed.
    I do have one background layer that is wider than the rest – and I would prefer to delete that entire background layer and then save the tiff without that.
    Q: Can you tell me how best to accomplish this?

    Revdave,
    You could follow the video below easily to extract background from Photoshop.

    Let me know if you need more help on this!

    Messaging: System Error(-10) [Nokia N70] URGENT HELP NEEDED! - NEEDE BEFORE WED 21ST MAY '08 - BUT HELP OTHERWISE APPRECIATED!______________________________
    Hey,
    I need this help before Wednesday 21st May 2008 as I am going abroad and urgently need my phone. I have had my phone for just over a year now and I have never had any problems with it up until now.... Think you can help...?
    This is the scenario. My messages are saved under my nokia N70's MMC memory card and when I get a message there are a number of problems.
    1) My phone does not vibrate or alert me when a message comes in. I have checked my profile settings and they are all up to volume.
    2) When the messages come through they are not displayed on the main window of the phone as "1 New Message Received" but in the top corner with a little envelope icon. I know the icon normally comes up but the "1 New messge received part doesn't come up.
    3)When "1 New Message Reveived" is not displayed on the main window I go into the "INBOX". When I click inbox on "Messaging" the phone displays an error saying: Messaging: System Error(-10) with a red exclamaion mark. The I can not write any messages, view sent, or drafts.
    I have tried to change me message settings by going on "Messaging"> Left Click "Settings" > "Other" > "Memory in use" and selected "Phone Memory". This works but then my I looses all my previous messages.
    4)My phone is also dead slow. I click menu and it takes at least five minutes to load menu.
    IF YOU COULD HELP ME ON ANY OF THESE ISSUES I WOULD BE MAJORLY GREATFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks Soo Much,
    Robert__________

    U said in another post u've tried all my solutions = =?
    On that post its for Nokia N95 u kno? Although the problem is similar, but different phone model can lead to quite different solutions.
    Are u sure u tried all my solutions?
    have u tried this?:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=messaging&message.id=7926#M7926
    Also format ur memory card, do not use content copier! dont install too much softwares, as ur phone model is old and doesnt have much space.
    This is from NOkia, sometimes does work depending on ur situation:
    Memory low
    Q: What can I do if my device memory is low?
    A: You can delete the following items regularly to avoid
    memory getting low:
    • Messages from Inbox, Drafts, and Sent folders in Messaging
    • Retrieved e-mail messages from the device memory
    • Saved browser pages
    • Images and photos in Gallery
    To delete contact information, calendar notes, call timers, call cost timers, game scores, or any other data, go to the respective application to remove the data. If you are deleting multiple items and any of the following notes are shown: Not enough memory to perform operation. Delete some data first. or Memory low. Delete some data., try deleting items one by one (starting from the smallest item).
    use device status http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-and-Shell/Windows/Nokia-Device-Status-57673.shtml
    to maybe let me see what u got on ur phone (by saving/exporting report).
    Make sure u have the latest firmware! Updating firmware is like a hard reset but also upgrade.

  • Help needed with java

    Hello everyone
    I'm a Student and new to java and I have been given a question which I have to go through. I have come across a problem with one of the questions and am stuck, so I was wondering if you guys could help me out.
    here is my code so far:
    A Class that maintains Information about a book
    This might form part of a larger application such
    as a library system, for example.
    @author (your name)
    *@version (a version number or a date)*
    public class Book
    // instance variables or fields
    private String author;
    private String title;
    Set the author and title when the book object is constructed
    public Book(String bookAuthor, String bookTitle)
    author = bookAuthor;
    title = bookTitle;
    Return The name of the author.
    public String getAuthor()
    return author;
    Return The name of the title.
    public String getTitle()
    return title;
    and below are the questions that I need to complete. they just want me to add codes to my current one, but the problem is I don't know where to put them and how I should word them, if that makes sense.
    Add a further instance variable/field pages to the Book class to store the number of pages in the book.
    This should be of type int and should be set to 0 in the Constructor.
    Add a second Constructor with signature
    public Book(String bookAuthor, String bookTitle, int noPages) so it has a third parameter passed to it as well as the author and title;
    this parameter is used - obviously?? - to initialise the number of pages.
    Note: This is easiest done by making a copy of the existing Constructor and adding the parameter.
    Add a getPages() accessor method that returns the number of pages in the book.
    Add a method printDetails() to your Book class. This should print out the Author title and number of pages to the Terminal Window. It is your choice as to how the data is formatted, perhaps all on one line, perhaps on three, and with or without explanatory text. For instance you could print out in the format:
    Title: Robinson Crusoe, Author: Daniel Defoe, Pages:226
    Add a further instance variable/field refNumber() to your Book class. This stores the Library's reference number. It should be of type String and be initialised to the empty String "" in the constructor, as its initial value is not passed in as a parameter. Instead a public mutator method with the signature:
    public void setRefNumber(String ref) should be created. The body of this method should assign the value of the method parameter ref to the refNumber.
    Add a corresponding getRefNumber() accessor method to your class so you can check that the mutator works correctly
    Modify your printDetails() method to include printing the reference number of the book.
    However the method should print the reference number only if it has been set - that is the refNumber has a non-zero length.
    If it has not been set, print "ZZZ" instead.
    Hint Use a conditional statement whose test calls the length() method of the refNumber String and gives a result like:
    Title: Jane Eyre, Author: Charlotte Bronte, Pages:226, RefNo: CB479 or, if the reference number is not set:
    Title: Robinson Crusoe, Author: Daniel Defoe, Pages:347, RefNo: ZZZ
    Modify your setRefNumber() method so that it sets the refNumber field only if the parameter is a string of at least three characters. If it is less than three, then print an error message (which must contain the word error) and leave the field unchanged
    Add a further integer variable/field borrowed to the Book class, to keep a count of the number of times a book has been borrowed. It should (obviously??) be set to 0 in the constructor.
    Add a mutator method borrow() to the class. This should increment (add 1 to) the value of borrowed each time it is called.
    Include an accessor method getBorrowed() that returns the value of borrowed
    Modify Print Details so that it includes the value of the borrowed field along with some explanatory text
    PS. sorry it looks so messey

    1. In the future, please use a more meaningful subject. "Help needed with java" contains no information. The very fact that you're posting here tells us you need help with Java. The point of the subject is to give the forum an idea of what kind of problem you're having, so that individuals can decide if they're interested and qualified to help.
    2. You need to ask a specific question. If you have no idea where to start, then start here: [http://home.earthlink.net/~patricia_shanahan/beginner.html]
    3. When you post code, use code tags. Copy the code from the original source in your editor (NOT from an earlier post here, where it will already have lost all formatting), paste it in here, highlight it, and click the CODE button.

    *In my address book of E90 I could add some details on the descriptions. I can't there ! If for an example I wanted to make difference etween more mobiles number on a name I could put on E90 mobile perso or mobile night or mobile urgency
    There I can't add any detail on the voices on the phone !
    And when I transferred from E90 all those details are now lost and I have the name with 5 mobiles numbers without any tag or note !
    *Other very big problem, when you send mails (not sms) there is no folder "sent mails" anywhere !!! You can't keep you sent mails !!!
    in italian
    * Nei vari indirizzi mail come faccio a fare il controllo mail manualmente ? Non esiste nelle opzioni o da nessuna parte il tasto check mail o similare
    * Nella rubrica a differenza sempre del mio ultimo E90 se voglio mettere un dettaglio su le varie voci non posso. Per esempio Mario Rossi ha tre numeri cellulari dove prima mettevo numero celliulare giorno, numero urgenze o numero riservato e adesso non posso. Oltre ad avermi nel trasferimento dei dati dall e90 a e7 perso tutti i "dettagli" della rubrica qui sopra spiegati. Mi ha trasferito i numeri ma senza i dettagli che avevo aggiunto
    * Importante per le mails quando invio una email NON appare da nessuna parte una cartella o folder SENT MAILS. Assurdo ma non c e una cartella mails inviate ! appare sms inviati ma da NESSUNA parte mails inviate !!!
