Help needed using multiple midi controllers with logic as rewire master

Hi all, i've been using logic 8 for a while now and have finally settled down after learning lots of digital production theory, to sorting my studio setup and start producing for real.
My setup includes 1 24" iMac 2.56ghz with profire610 interface, 1 behringer bcf2000, 1 mpk61, 1 apc40 and I'm using logic 8 with reason 5 and live 8 rewired and have recently brought in the komplete 7, sylenth and max5 plug-ins. My aim is to assign the behringer to logic to control it's tracks in the mixer, the apc40 with ableton (obviously!) and the keyboard switching between all three daws but more importantly keeping the mpc pads for the kong drum designer in reason.
Am I right in thinking logics environment section can offer me a workable option to get complete routing control over the midi messaging between the controllers and the daws??
Have I explained myself right?
Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance

and I forgot to mention I'd like to be able to send and recieve audio and midi between the 3 daws like using one to sequence another and say be able to export midi/audio to ableton and start it playing.
I also dj so I would ultimately prefer to be creating and compiling drum and synth loops and easily pass them to ableton whether in the studio or at a gig.

    Hi,
if i wanted to play two midi controllers (e.g. a Roland A90 set to midi channel 1, and a Novation SL61 set to Midi channel 2), to play two soft synths within logic at the same time, can I do this?

My midi mapping inspector won't give me acces to change the midi channel when selecting a software/midi instrument channel - it just says 'midi-thru', yet in the manual it shows an illustration with midi channel displayed...

You need the SECOND window, below the 'midi thru' one - look under the greyed out +Core Audio Inst 1+:

    Yes, should work now.

  • How to use multiple midi controllers with Mac book pro (2 usb)?

I have a newer macbook pro that has 2 USB ports, and a lightning port and a firewireport.
On stage I will be using the firewire port connected to a Presonus Firestudio mobile to use as the interface to the house mixer.
I will use 1 USB for my M-audio Axiom 61
I will use the other for my Yamaha WX-5 Wind synth
I'd like to be able to get the apogee midi foot controller to control the playback audio. For example I'll be using it to stay in a solo section, then step on it to move it forward ot the next section when I am done soloing
I'd also like to use some sort of midi switch to turn on vocal effects of the mic.
Anyway since I only have 2 USB ports, how should I connect the 3rd, or 4th USB midi controller?
Will a USB hub work to do this? If so, will I always have to remember to use the same controler in the same exact hub input to make sure everything maps the same?
I guess I'll also have to learn how to setup multiple controllers in Mainstage as well.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi there,
is a question which many of us have spent ...
I think the obvious answer is that yes you can use a hub and connect everything. however ....
sincerely advise you to buy a good hub that is well feasible, the last thing you want on stage / rehearsal is one of midi controllers stop responding, or stay with hanged notes... etc., do not buy just because it is cheap it has to be stable and viable, some bring cable for connecting wall power just to not drain power from the USB port.
Other things to try is to distribute as much equipment for USB / Midi.
For example one of midi controllers connect via USB but not by Midi outside the Presonus Firestudio. Connecting Presonus Firestudio to a single USB port as it is a main equipment.
but it really is an issue that greatly limits the use of USB devices.
Try it and tell me how it went. Good luck
(sorry for my english i´m Portuguese)

  • Using Multiple MIDI controllers at the same time

It seems that there is no way to record from 2 different midi controllers at the same time without the data getting summed together. I'm trying to record a midi keyboard playing a piano sound and my roland v-drums at the same time. The result i get when i record enable both tracks is that both the keyboard and the drums each play both sounds. I'm using a MOTU midi express xt usb and have each of the devices on seperate midi ports and the drums are on channel 10. Is there anyway to keep this info seperated on it's own port? I've read through the environment chapter about 1000 times and there is no mention of this senario at all. Should I have saved $700 and stuck with MOTU DP4.6 which works just fine? Is there anyway to get some REAL help from Apple?

Have you tried: file/song settings/recording/auto demix per channel if multi-track recording?
    hope that helps.

  • Using Multiple Audio Interfaces With Logic (Edirol FA-101)

I just bought tiger so that i could aggregate my two edirol fa-101's and they still dont work. They cut out and the sync buttons flash. Its as if the computer ant deal with so much information. I stop all large processes on my g5 dual 1.8 and try again. They cut out whether im in Logic or not. One works ok but still cuts out sometimes, adding another has made the problem twice as bad. Any advice please. Ive talked to edirol and they have no idea what to do... Thanks, Ben

According to their web page, the FA-101 does accept SPDIF. They should be wired together with one unit should be set up as a master and the other as a slave. You units should sync up then.
As they are right now, the two units are competing to sync with Logic, causing the sound to pop and cut out.

Help needed I updated my ipad2 with iOS5 but few of my dashbaords (HTML5) are not working now ,can any one let me know how to downgrade the OS as we have a meeting coming up .. its urgent

Downgrading the iOS is not supported. If you are using Safari this try clearing its cache via Settings > Safari.
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Help needed using adobe exportpdf

The first time I used adobe export pdf it worked well. However the next time and every other time I try to convert a pdf doc to word docx I get the error message at the end of the uploading session. "pdf doc failed to export to m,icrosoft word.  There was an unexpected problem.
    Anyone overcome this problem?

    Hi Stacy
Thanks for that info.  I was aware of the 100MB limit but
your response made me think again and go back to the problem and this is
what I found. The first  pdf document I uploaded into Adobe export pdf was  43
MB and it went through fine. when I looked at the conversion to Word  docx I
found it had been transformed into 83MB.
So the conversion (which was a children's book with lots of images in it)
resulted in an increase of MBs by a factor of 1.7.
The second pdf document I uploaded was 64MB and this failed. If I apply the
1.7 factor then the Word docx I wanted was going to be 109MB and therefore
    over  the 100MB limit.
I didn't know that converting pdf to word would increase the MB like that.
Why, I don't know so thanks for your help I've learnt something new.
    Cheers

  • Using Midas console with Logic

    Hello,
I am kinda new to Logic and have a question. I am using a Midas Venice 32F console with Firewire output to record all 32 channels into Logic. Today, I tried to send those same 32 channels back through the board, which Midas will allow, but I could only get Logic to send a stereo signal. I set everything that I could find (audio/midi setup, Logic output, sound output) to reflect the Firewire connection as the output device for the program and the laptop. Still only a stereo send? What really frustrates me is that Reaper, the free solution, will do this with no problems which means it is a software issue and not my laptop or the board. Please help.
    This is my equipment...
15" MBP with Intel chip and 8 Gb's of RAM running Mavericks
    Midas Venice 32F console
    Logic Pro X
    Thanks again for the help.

For all of those out there having the same issue with Logic Pro X. I have figured it out and finally got around to making a video of how to make it work. Here it is so you can check it out, share it, comment on it, whatever. Thanks for the help in getting this issue solved.
Midas Venice F 32 using Logic Pro X for mix down

  • Using multiple MIDI-in sources - can you now select the incoming MIDI port?

Exciting to see that Logic Pro X has launched at last!
I'm hoping someone who has already had a chance to download it can report back on a specific feature.
In previous versions of Logic, the only way to record multiple MIDI sources (for example a V-Drums kit and a keyboard) at the same time has been to make sure they are on different MIDI channels, and then choose the "auto demix MIDI channels" option in preferences.
In this way, the MIDI data is separated by channel and recorded to separate tracks.
However, it only separates the channels when two or more tracks are armed for recording, and does not offer any option for selecting the specific MIDI port for incoming MIDI signals.
DAWs such as Cubase and ProTools have always had a drop-down menu for MIDI channels, where the MIDI port can be chosen. This way, you can easily separate your MIDI controllers for either jamming or recording, and they will only play virtual instruments on tracks which are selected to their specific channel. This applies for recording as well as just jamming or trying parts prior to recording.
I have several hardware synths in my studio and often record MIDI jams with multiple players, and on that basis moved back to Cubase last year. I have been hoping Logic would update this feature for a long, long time!
Can anyone who is using Logic Pro X already confirm whether MIDI tracks now have a port select option, or whether the old channel-based system and the clumsy "auto demix MIDI channels" method remains...?
    Cheers,
    Mike

Guys, this is really quite simple to accomplish in the midi environment, susprised you've been hunting for so long for the answers, here's a quick step by step:
    1. Go into Midi Environment
    2. Change the view in the Environment window to show Click & Ports
    3. To make things easier, click the 'Input Notes' label, and delete the object.  And also click the 'Input View' label, and delete that also, so you're left with a blank canvas.  (These are handy tools when testing, just deleting them to make things clearer).
You should now be left with just the Sequencer Input  (And midi click, but ignore that) - Basically anything that connects into this input goes through as an input into logic... So, all we have to do now is to split each device into seperate channels.  This is simply done through the 'transform' objects.
    4. Add 2x Transformer objects via the 'new' menu (Or however many external inputs you need).
    5. Drag the connection from each device listed on the left, to it's own transformer as shown:
    6. Then plug each transformer into the Sequencer input
    7. Double click each Transformer object and simply FIX the midi channel to be whatever you desire, in this example i've picked channel 2 and channel 3
    8. Now, just make sure the 'Auto demix by channel if multitrack record' option is selected in project settings, and you're good to go!
Now just simply select the channel number that corresponds to the devices you transformed, and when more than one track is armed for recording it will be split to how you would like.  *Please take note, that the demix only kicks in when multitracking, i.e. more than one track is armed*
Now, this seems really long winded on a forum with screenshots etc. - But it's truly not, takes about 30 seconds, and once you've done it a few times makes sense.  Plus going through an environment like this opens up possibilites such as splitting one midi keyboard into different zones which can transmit to different channels, so you can have bass on your left hand, and lead on the right for example.  But the midi data will split to each track when recording.
Reply back if you get stuck, more than happy to help!

  • How to record multiple midi channel data to multiple midi tracks in Logic?

    Dear All,
I have an electric organ from Yamaha, and it has 3 keyboards, upper keyboard, lower keyboard, and pedal keyboard. They are all running in different midi channels:
i.e. upper keyboard: midi channel 1
    lower keyboard: midi channel 2
    pedal keyboard: midi channel 3
When I try to create 3 midi tracks in Logic to listen to the 3 keyboards, I found that their midi signal just mixed together. Meaning, all 3 midi tracks can listen to all 3 keyboards...
Please noted that I am using a single USB Midi interface (1-in, 1-out) to connect the electric organ with macbook.
Can someone give me a help here? I suppose I can setup 3 midi tracks in logic to listen to 3 keyboards signal separately.
    Thanks,
    Eric

I had a similar situation when I first got LS and received this useful reply from Apple-
in Settings>Recording, check the box for "Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording".
Be aware that the Settings are song specific, compared to Preferences, which apply
to all songs. Set your controllers to send on specific MIDI channels and set the same channels in the inspector of your tracks.
I have a 2x2 midisport however, so I don't know if you will have an issue because you have only 1 I/O.
If so, you might have to learn about 'Multi instruments", I haven't had the need.
Yes, this is correct. We have two recording stations with ESI M4U 4x4 midi interfaces. We are recording 4 instruments at the same time and they all send their data on a different channel. I created midi instruments for all of them in Environment just to have them more easily available in the Arrange window. Also make sure you have the correct midi channel set per track in Logic.
When the option to "auto demix by channel" is set and you are recording, it may seem that Logic is recording only on one channel (only one region being created). But as soon as you hit stop, it will expand to multiple channels.

  • Using multiple delta 1010s in logic

can't use multiple delta 1010s works fine using one when i select multiple on logic comes through very distorted and then slowly dies. any ideas?

    I would say something like:
"In normal operation, Logic listens to all incoming MIDI ports, and sums the data together, forwards it to the arrange page, and then distributes it to the selected instrument track - hence all controllers which be channelised to control the current instrument (or multiple instruments).
If you enable "Multiplayer Record" mode, then what happens is that Logic distributes incoming MIDI events to the selected tracks via the MIDI channel.
So, you can set track 1 to listen to channel 2, track 2 with a different plugin to channel 14 etc - up to 16 channels.
So in this way, you can play up to 16 independent instruments from up to 16 independent controllers.
Logic currently has a bottleneck at the summing point, which means you lose the incoming MIDI port info, which is why your controllers need to be sending on different MIDI channels, but in short, set controller 1 to transmit on one channel, set controller two to transmit on a different MIDI channel, have multiplayer record enabled "Auto demix by channel if
multitrack recording"), and you can then choose which track should respond to which controller by adjusting the track object's MIDI channel.
The manual explains the procedure in "Recording on Multiple MIDI Tracks" on page 382."
    Now sue me...

  • Please take a quick look at this: Midi Problem with Logic 8.0.2

Hello, I am trying to connect up my Roland FP3 Keyboard with Logic 8.0.2. I am using the following MIDI IN/OUT to USB device:
MUSIC STORE Midi Port 1x1 USB
    http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/-/art-PCM0006795-000
In the Audio Midi Setup in Mac OS X 10.5.5, the Midi device calls itself WORLDE MIDI PORT and is automatically recognized. However, when I click on "Test Setup", nothing happens. This is not the first time that i have setup such a device and i recall that with other MIDI-USB devices that the computer plays some kind of sound to confirm that the MIDI-USB device is working.
More importantly, when i open up Logic 8.0.2, the transport bar displays "No In", "No Out". This is very confusing seeing as that the device is recognized in the Audio/Midi Setup. It is unlikely that the device is broken, because I've now gone back to the store where i bought it and replaced the first device with an identical second device - and am now having the same problem. The staff at this music store say that the Midi-USB device should automatically display, for example, C-sharp 4, in the transport bar without any additional tinkering. I have a feeling though that there is some kind of button that i have not pressed (or HAVE pressed that i shouldn't have pressed) and as a result can't play music in from my keyboard into my computer.
I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to give me a helpful pointer here. As you can imagine this is quite frustrating. Thank you very much in advance!

"No in No out" simply means there is no MIDI coming in or going out +at that moment+. If you strike keys and move controllers and it still says no in no out, then you may have a problem. Is that the case? Have you actually touched the keys...?

  • Help setting up my audio interface with logic pro x

    Hi everyone,
I am a newbie with regards to home recording and using Logic Pro X and I need some help and advice about setting up my home recording set up for the first time. I want to connect my synthesizer Korg Triton Extreme to my Audio Interface Steinberg UR22 to my Apple Imac computer.
What I would like is if I can create backing tracks or use pre-set sounds or drum patterns from my Korg Triton Extreme synthesizer and then transfer them onto Logic Pro X to help me compose songs.
How should I go about doing this? And what settings should be applied to Logic Pro X so that I can hear the songs as they are being played and recorded?
So far I have connected my synthesizer's two outputs to the two inputs on my Steinberg UR22 Audio Interface. I have also connected the USB point on the audio interface to my Apple Imac computer. But when I have tried to add a drum track from the Korg Triton Extreme synthesizer I cannot seem to add any of the drum sounds. Nothing appears to be recorded despite me trying several times. I cannot hear any sound coming from the audio interface either despite having a pair of headphones plugged into it.
I would also like to find a way to synchronise the drum tracks I want to record from my Korg Triton Extreme synthesizer to Logic Pro X. So that when I click on the record button on Logic Pro X the synthesizer track automatically starts playing and recording on Logic Pro X. Whats the best way to do this? And will I need a Midi cable for any of the things I want to do?
    Many thanks,
    James.

    Hi James
I just got myself a macbook pro and logic pro X, and I also have a Triton Extreme and the UR22. So I know what the learning curve can be like - it's been a long time since I've used a sequencer in a computer.
I assume you are aware of the difference between audio and midi? With your current setup, all you can do is play your Triton and record the sounds as audio loops - you should be able to hear the Triton through headphones plugged into the UR22, and (assuming you have installed the UR22 driver) you can also hear the Triton through your computer speakers (or headphone output) once you tell Logic there is sound coming in from the UR22.
If you want to be able to play the sounds in logic pro, or transfer drum patterns (which are in midi format), you will definitely need midi cables (you may be able to use midi by connecting the Triton's USB out to your computer, but having not tried that, I don't know if it will work - it does on more recent synths)

  • Hooking up two midi controllers to Logic Express 7.2 to trigger two sounds

    Hi,
I must preface this by saying I have no experience what so ever with using midi with logic except for plugging in one of my usb midi keyboards and playing piano, and organ sounds from garageband and logic.
I need help figuring this out. Here's what I have:
    1. M-audio O2 usb midi controller
    2. Evolution Mk-461c usb midi controller
    3. 14" ibook G4 running Logic 7.2 and OS 10.4.11
Here's what I want to do but can't seem to make it work:
I want to connect both the M-audio and Evolution keyboards and use the M-audio to play bass sounds through Logic using the garageband bass sounds, and organ sounds through Logic using the tonewheel organ sounds from garageband.
Right now I either get both keyboards producing the bass sound or the organ sound. Not one doing bass and the other doing organ.
I just realized as I was typing this- You can only use one Garageband sound at a time, right? Is that why I'm having this problem?
Can I get the M-audio doing the bass sound from Garageband and the Evolution doing a synth sound from Logic at the same time?
Is it at all possible to do what I want to?
