Help on water damaged iphone and erasing data?

My iphone has water damage so the screen does not work, however It does have power and I was able to download camera roll. Is there a way to erase all data remotely if you cannot use the screen? Since I have to ship the phone back.
iPhone 4S

I never did set up" find my iphone".  I never even turned on back up icloud!  I was clueless about the phone.  So if the syncing with itunes as "restore as a new phone" will work I will do this since I never did this either!  thanks
icloud tip:   To use remote wipe, you need to have set up Find My iPhone on the device before you lost it.

    Will Apple be able to fix my water damaged iPhone and how much will it cost? The screen is black and won't come back on. It's only 1 month old and I hate to ditch it and get a refurbished one through insurance claim. I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right forum, though! Thanks for your help!

    Thank you for your quick answer! So they won't fix the one I have for sure? I will get a refurbished phone?

    I am living in Pakistan, Lahore. I have purchased an Apple Iphone 5S online from apple store. I am facing water damage problem and there is no apple store here in Pakistan, How can I repair my phone from apple service center? Please help me

    Take it to an authorized service center or Apple Store in the country where the phone originated.  Apple does not sell iPhones in Pakistan, nor will they ship them to Pakistan.

  • I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

    I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. It spent time underwater, saltwater. I let it dry for a week, turned it on, the apple symbol came on, then it died. I need to retrieve my photos off it. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

    You're talking about the logic board. The two most likely things to get toasted, with water damage, are the battery(it shorts out), & the logic board. The worst water damage would be salt water. I'm afraid your logic board is toast.

  • If I take my water damaged iPhone 4 into an apple store, will they be able to retrieve my pictures, video and contacts from it?? It currently won't turn on, wondering if there is a way for them to turn it on to do that?

    No, they won't. If the phone won't turn on at all, the only way to even attempt to get information off the flash drive would be to turn the whole thing over to one of those data recovery firms like DriveSaver. You're looking at a couple of thousand dollars, at least.

  • If I'm already paying 149.99 to replace my water damaged Iphone 4 can I pay the Iphone 4s replacement price and get that instead? If No explain why please . Thank you

    I have a water damaged Iphone 4 I have had for only 8 months. Today I went to the apple store to see how much a replacement was and the girl told me 149.99 for my iphone. What I was wondering is can i pay the replacment cost of an Iphone 4s and get that instead . I dont see the problem since my phone is broken anyways . But I would like to hearf if any one has tried the same thing.
    Thanks

    The only exception would be if there were no like models available.  There was a short period when there were not sufficient supplies of the 3gs to effect warranty replacements.  In that case, they replaced the 3GS with a 4 at no additional charge.  But the warranty fine print specifies that they will repair or replace the device, at their discresion.

  • Transferring data from water-damaged iphone to replacement iphone

    Will/Can Apple download picture, apps, etc. from your water-damaged iphone onto the replacement iphone?

    No... Apple cannot and will not.
    It is the users responsibility to regularly backup their content via iTunes on the computer or iCloud.
    All media and apps acquired via iTunes should exist in iTunes on the users computer.

  • Water damaged Iphone 3G

    ok so my life is slowly coming to a end. My Iphone 3G that I have had for little over a year has gotten water damaged and is not working. I logged on a few days ago and set up an appointment with the nearest apple store for friday. I have looked at some of the water damage posting and tried the ziplock bag of rice which has seemed to get all the moisture out but it is still not responding. So my question is if I show up to the store and they can't fix it am I going to have to pay full price for a new phone since im out of my warranty or do they have out of plan exchange warranty. Any advice would help thanks

    You're welcome.
    Apple does not do major repairs for an iPhone at an Apple store. They may replace the glass screen at an Apple store, but that is it.
    The out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price which pays for an exchange includes the same model. If a 3G 16GB Black, you will receive a 3G 16GB Black. You cannot pay extra and get a 3GS or an iPhone 4.
    If you qualify for AT&T's upgrade or subsidized pricing with a new phone, you can purchase a new 3GS or an iPhone 4 at AT&T's subsidized price which will require signing a new two year contract.
    There is no trade-in or exchange at an Apple or AT&T store when purchasing a new iPhone. If you don't qualify for AT&T's upgrade or discounted price or want a 3GS without signing a new two year contract, you can purchase a 3GS at AT&T's no-commitment or no-contract price, which is the full retail sales price and is $400 more than AT&T's subsidized or discounted price.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • Water damage, Warranties, and $200 refurb replacements
    I'm aware that there are a ton of threads about water damage and warranties, but I don't think there's an answer to this particular question.
    Because of the symptoms of my water damaged iPhone (everything working fine except backlight), I suspect there's some corrosion inside--if so, it's a cheap fix. If not...not.
    I know that water damage voids the warranty. I know that Apple will now replace it with a refurbished unit for ~$200. BUT: will opening and checking for corrosion kill the $200 refurbished swap offer? The way I see it is that the warranty is already voided, so what do I have to lose? But I don't want to open it up, find that I'm wrong about the corrosion, then also find that Apple won't take my $200 because I opened it.
    Anybody have experience with this? Thanks in advance!
    The corrosion will be under connector 1 (the LCD ribbon connector) on the logic board or, in worser cases, the coil has burned out and you need to do a intricate solder job. There are a load of water damage/moisture indicator tabs inside the iphone which, if go pink, void your warranty. Get yourself hold of some iphone opening tools - as long as you follow the ifixit guide properly and use a suction cup apple will never be able to tell. Check if any of the circles are pink and try cleaning up connector 1 - if no pink circles your warranty will still be valid.
    If you have a pink circle, try cleaning up the corrosion on conector 1. If that fails and you wan't to avoid paying $200 you're gonna have to make this solder joint with a thin wire: follow the guide here http://blog.techsick.com/guides-tutorials/iphone-3gs-no-backlight-fix/ If not apple won't be able to tell you opened it up and it'll be fine.
    Hope that helped and good luck!
    Regards
  • I have a water damage iPhone 5s would like to change to new set with top up the money. But the staff told me it couldn't be done due to some of my minor parts are missing according to company policy. I need advise as I want to change it.
    Hi all,
    I have a water damage iPhone 5s was bring to service center to have new set change with top up the money. Well, the staff were told me that the phone can't be change due to some of minor parts are missing in the phone. He said this is due to company policy. I would like to check is that nothing can do with this missing minor parts? I really doubt the policy of the Apple as I was told as long as you bring to the service center, they will assists. As Apple is a well known brand top of the world, but the servicing is really make me so disappointed! I really doubt should I still continue to support the Apple product with helpless service!
    Would like to take this opportunity to seek the professional advise in order to get my phone change back.
    Appreciate very much!
    Thanks.
    Well, your service is handled by an Authorized Apple Service Center. If they refuse to handle the claim, that is well within their rights. Apple as well could void a claim under the same circumstances. I'm not saying that you did or did not modify the device, but you could try and talk to a supervisor there and make another request. You can also try and contact Apple by obtaining a number with this support document and describe your problem. http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
  • Can my water damaged iPhone still be replaced under warranty if it had a problem before the water damage?
    My iPhone 5 is still under a year old and it fell in the toilet for a few seconds about 3 days ago.
    I know the apple warranty doesn't cover water damage. The liquid damage indicator in the SIM slot hasn't turned red.
    Around March this year I noticed that some faint spots appeared in my photos taken by the rear camera and I've read that this type of damage could get you an instant replacement of your iPhone, I just never got around to taking it to the apple store. I have those photos saved so I can prove that this problem happened a while ago.
    I've had my now water damaged iPhone in a rice bag for three days, however I have been charging it a little to turn it on every so often to check on it. It seems to be getting better, but the screen is still "fuzzy" and the touch is a bit "jumpy" and not as responsive as before. So I'm worried I might have damaged the screen or motherboard or something and I don't know what to do?
    If I go into the apple store and tell them about the camera problem from before would they give me a new iPhone? or will they not accept it because of the water damage?
    I really can't afford a new iPhone or a refurbished one even, so what's the best thing to do?
    thanks in advance.
    No.  Your warranty is void due to the water damage
    You can buy a replacement for $229
