Help Please, Battling Problem For Months

This is the first time I've posted on SunJava's forum, and hope I'm doing this right ^^; Please do correct me if I'm wrong.
For months, I haven't been able to compose mail on web-based email, view sites programmed in Java, or use Angelfire or Geocities or other similar programs. I've installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 and attempted to Reinstall IE6, but was unsuccessful and go an error message. I've installed SunJava and enabled it under Internet Options' Advanced Tab. I've searched the web, Google and Forums pertaining to the topic, but haven't found anything that has worked. Any advice? Thanks! Greatly, GREATLY appreciated.

I'm not really sure if any of the sites you mention actually use Java. Hotmail, for example, does not use Java. Most do use JavaScript though, which is something entirely different and is not a Sun product.
This isn't really the right place for questions like this. Although most people probably won't mind posts such as this, the forum is intended for use by people developing software using Java.
You might want to check out http://www.java.com/ instead. That's the official resource for 'consumers' (i.e. people NOT interested in writing programs using java, but only in using the programs themselves). There will probably be some facility there for reporting bugs or answering questions.
As a last resort, you might want to try using another browser. For example, take a look at the products at http://www.mozilla.org/ A lot of people actually prefer those browsers to IE for numerous reasons, including better security

Looks like folks have been having this problem for months & months .. The Apple tech told me that all I could do is wait for Apple to come up with a fix... Got a new router this week so that isnt' it. Would I be better off w/o this until Apple gets their act together? I downloaded the combo update 10.7.3 & it helped for about a day... yesterday I still had to manually reset the connection but now it's resorting back to disconnectiong w/o fully going into sleep mode first. Sorry to say this is a major lemon. Help!

Seems unfair... I thought I was probalby having a router problem... got a new router this week. Thst's when we realized we have a computer problem. My next door nieghbor got zero sleep staying up all night while trying to help us figure out what the problem could be. He said if it were him he would have returned the iMac / Lion. Got the new iMac w/ Lion for Christmas but didn't realize until this week that Apple is the problem.... Hard to believe that Apple just has kept on selling this like ... oh No problem! Can't stay on the internet... but will sell you another one today! I'm getting mad... It's not every day we spend that kind of money on a computer . & ALL they can give us is that LOUSY Lion combo update. I can't even stay connected long enough to make a vitamin order with Puritan's Pride... & then the disconnection wipes out my cart... so I have to start over. When are they going to fix this! 'Not feeling very positive'. I feel like Apple KNOWINGLY sold my husband a defective... system. 14 days... oh please...

My iTunes Store won't load past the twentieth song!! Please help been going on for months now. Also is super slow in loading.

Every time I open my iTunes Store on my iphone, the store will hardly load and when it does it only lists the songs 1-20 in every genera. it will load the a limbs and front page of that category. Please help haven't been able to do anything for months!!!

Random hanging / slowdown problems for months [SOLVED]

I have a relatively new computer -- not a clunker -- that has random slowdowns quite frequently. They will last anywhere from 10 seconds to 3+ minutes. It always starts in just one application, like firefox or pidgin, then it "spreads" to other ones. Often, I will type a "cd" or "ls" command in a terminal while the hangs are happening. They don't actually do anything until the hangup is over. This has happened on a regular basis for months.
I've tried switching applications. It happens with nothing but XFCE and Firefox running, or XFCE and Starcraft. It first started under KDE. I've tried moving from firefox to chrome and back, switching terminal emulators, nothing. It also happens under Windows, however, so I believe it's a hardware problem.
I have no idea what it is though! I've tried:
Switching out my Nvidia 9200 GT with the 8200 on-board graphics
A different network card from my on-board (wired)
Different hard disks -- the Windows and Linux installs are on different disks (one is IDE, the other is SATA)
Swapping out my 2GiB RAM stick with two other RAM sticks (512MiB each) in every slot
This leaves only my PSU, CPU, and motherboard as possible culprits after help from the #archlinux channel in narrowing down the above. Where do I go from here? I haven't any idea how to check the health of my motherboard and CPU, but I see no extra slowdown when I run Folding at Home on one of my cores (it's a quad). Whenever I reboot to my BIOs and look at the voltages my PSU is putting out, everything seems to be okay.
I've had the same hardware since last Christmas when I upgraded my video card. It worked fine somewhere in July, IIRC, when this all started. Can anyone offer any help? I haven't any idea what I should do next.

I've tried three different graphics cards. One is a new Nvidia 9200 GT, which I just got for Christmas. Another is the Nvidia 8200, which is an onboard chipset. The most recent, which is installed right now. is an Nvidia 8800 GTX. Although it seems to happen less with the GTX, it still happens somewhat frequently. It was worst with the onboard.
I'm wondering if I should try stripping out my HDDs and installing on an old IDE disk I have just to be sure, even though SMART says both disks are fine.
mprime has been running for 21 hours and no issues so far, although I do have a large box fan pointed at the open CPU case and a smaller one pointed straight at the CPU
EDIT: Another thing I've been wondering if this would be at all possible caused by my router. My router is quite crappy -- an ancient Belkin running DD-WRT, but it barely has enough RAM to do that. Everything but the essentials is turned off. Do you think this could cause it? My dad's computer, attached to the same router, is also having problems, but that computer has had the same Windows XP install since about 2002, so it's not a great benchmark. Wondering if it's worth checking out though.
The reason I say this is because I notice the hanging / slowdown mostly start in Firefox / Chrome / Pidgin when using the network then spread to other components. Also, I am connected to it via a *really* long (200ft I think) CAT5e cable. Could this be a problem? Should I try to throw in a wireless card and see what happens? I didn't have problems with it when we first installed it, but that was a while ago. Come to think of it, it may be about the time that the slowdown started. Could that be the culprit? I'll probably try a wireless card tomorrow and see what happens.

Help please? problems with screen resolution & external monitor

had a look around this forum and seen many questions about screen resolution when connecting to an external monitor but unfortunately, non that help me answer my problem.
got a brand new macbook a few months ago and today bought a HP v220 22" external monitor.
I am new to the idea of external monitors and am unsure what i am doing wrong settings-wise. it seems that no matter what resolution i set either my macbook display, or the external monitor display to. the external monitor is still not sharp.
Im not sure how to explain what i need but basically i need it to be so that things appear on the external the same size as they do on my macbook screen, so that i will have more space to work in on my external monitor (i am a graphics student) but at the moment what appears on the monitor is lieterally just a magnified version of my macbook screen, hence it lacks clarity.
the highest resolution offered in the menu for my macbook screen is 1280x800 and my external is recommended to be set at 1680x1050.
what settings should i have to get the resolution right?
i will be so so grateful if you can help. i think ive tried every single display setting but to no avail. so please help me!

The 13.3" screen on the MacBook running at 1280 x 800 will have a ppi (pixels per inch) of around 113. A 22" monitor running 1680 x 1050 will have a ppi of around 90. So it is natural that it will look magnified compared with the MacBook. The two displays have different a pixel pitch.
Since there are no monitors with ~113 ppi out there in the market, what you want to do with having the same size and sharpness between the MB and a monitor will not be possible.
If you ran the MB's screen at 1024 x 640 (not even sure if that is an available choice), then the two screens would match in terms of "magnification." But the MB isn't going to look very sharp running such a low, non-native format.

Been having iTunes problems for months - now it won't work at all

For the last few months, iTunes has been failing to update (halfway through download it throws up an error saying the update failed. Trying to update manually threw up the errors I've linked to below). So I decided to try to fix it at last, I uninstalled iTunes and tried to reinstall, during the installation I encounter the following error:

"Retry" causes the error to repeat, "Ignore" leads to the installation saying it's successful, yet when I try to launch iTunes, this happens:

Trying to repair the programme causes the same errors.
I'm running Windows 7 and haven't had any problems with other programmes that I'm aware of although Windows Update has been a bit dodgy for a while (some updates after downloading claim to be installed yet on restart Windows Update still identifies them as due to be downloaded and this process repeats over and over). I haven't made any hardware changes to my system lately and can't think of any software changes around the time the problems started or at all lately. I'm definitely running with administrator privileges.
Any suggestions or advice at all would be very gratefully received.

I can't say I've had the issues myself BUT what I would reccomend is:
1. Completely remove iTunes from your computer and associated registry entries by using a tool such as CCLeaner
2. Make sure you are completely up to date on windows redistributable packages and other updates.
3. Make sure you've selected the appropriate version for your computer i.e. x32 for 32-bit systems and x64 for 64-bit systems.
4. I've just had a quick Google around and as I said above with the redistributable packages in particular look at Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Securty Upfate which can be found here:http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14431

Help please - template problems

2 questions please - actually:
1. Dreamweaver CS4... I think my template functionality has somehow become corrupted. When I try to create new templates (regardless of which site I'm trying it within), they look ok. But when I then try to create a new html page using the template, it garbles the format. I tried it every way I can think of... I tried the 2 column fixed, the 3 column hybrid, etc. etc. And I tried them as is in dreamweaver (without adding any formatting or anything... just create a new, save it, and then create a new page using the tempalte). Still the same garbled end results. (it's keeping the spry menu bar, but loses the columnar format and places them on top of each other)
Interestingly, it's only happening with new templates. (what started this was that I have a 2 column template I'm using, and I want to switch to a 3 column). As long as I keep using the existing format with the existing templates, the new pages are ok.
I tried re-installing dreamweaver, and that didn't fix it. Any ideas?
2. I noticed in another post, that there were comments about largers sites don't do well with templates. My site's content based (www.howtogardenadvice.com) with no fancy bells or whistles... but am well over 50 pages, and still growing. Does that mean I have to stop using a template?

When you site becomes as large as yours sounds, the initial decision to use Templates becomes tedious, since each saved Template change requires that you upload ALL affected local files to reflect that change. As the site becomes larger and larger, this requirement becomes more and more tedious. It's not that the Templates don't work.
I still use Templates on nearly every site I build, but I also use server-side includes to minimize this need. I use the following scheme....
First, I mentally separate the page layout into three sections:
1. Stuff that will not change for the life of the site (i.e., the basic
structural elements)
2. Stuff that *could* change from time to time (e.g., navigation elements,
burst advertisements, section-specific navigation, etc.)
3. Stuff that *will* change from one page to the next
Then I create a Template containing all class1 elements. Next I create
server-side include files containing all class 2 elements and place them on
the Template as needed. Note - some of the class 2 elements may be
"section-specific elements", and their placement on the Template will be
subject to the next item. Finally, I insert editable regions to cover the
class 3 items, INCLUDING the section-specific navigation.
This allows me to just cookie-cut the rest of the site. I estimate that
even for fairly large sites, about 80% of my work goes into planning and
creating this Template file.
To say anything about your #1 problem, we'd need to start by looking at the code on your Template page, and comparing that to the 'garbled' code on your child pages. Can you show us?

PROBLEM FOR MONTHS AND STILL NO RESOLUTION

I have had a problem with by BT Broadband service since it was installed over a year ago. I have spent so much time on the phone to the technical support service that I feel I know them better than I know my own family. I'm even considering learning Pashtu or Dari to allow my conversations with the BT tecnical support team to progress quicker.
So what is wrong, simple my service doesn't work it drops in and out and having become so frustrated with it i asked to cancel my contract and was told that I would have to buy myself out of the remaining 6 months of my contract. Despite telling BT that the problem was not at my property (Ive been a communications engineer for 32 years) I agreed to take a day off of work so the engineer could visit. he was in my property for 4 mins and 54 seconds before he said "your right mate theres nothing wrong here!" he then went off to check the local DP and then the server. I was then eventually told that the problem was caused due to the distance that my property was from the DP and the server, it was too long for the copper cable; something that BT knew when they allowed me to take out the contract. After months of discussion I was then told that they were not able to fix my problem and that I could now leave my contract without any financial penalty, I declined and said that I would like BT to fix the problem. They have now said that they cannot fix the problem so I have asked for a deadlock letter (something that I have been asking for since Jan 15) so that I can take the matter to the ombudsman, I also asked for transcripts of all of my calls, both of which I haven't received despite numerous requests and an agreement to pay for the transcripts to be produced. I was promised on 28 March that my case was now being dealt with by a specialist team who would definately be in touch with me by 04 April, yet nobody called me back. My normal routine now is to (a) have no reliable broadband (b) Speak to BT Technical Services on a daily basis only to be told "please give us another week to sort this out". I have this time spoken to a customer service adviser in the UK who told me that the only way to proceed was for me to cancel my contract and then it could be investigated to see if I was entitled to any refund. I then asked for BT to write or email me stating that (a) if I cancelled my contract that I wouldn't be liable for any financial penalty and (b) that I would be entitled to some sort of compensation. I was told that this was not possible as I had not registered any complaint!
So tomorrow I will place the matter into the hands of a solicitor and aim to tak legal action against BT for breach of contract. I cannot go the the ombudsman as BT refuse to give me the dead lock letter and the transcripts of my numerous calls.
Well done BT a superb service, I can't see why anyone would take out a contract with BT. At my last address I had my broadband with Virgin and for 3 years I didn't have any issues!

As to why when given the option of cancelling I chose not to, I believe that BT can solve the problem but choose not to as it is financially prohibitive to them to do so. Therefore it is easier and cheaper for them to offer a cancelation without charges, hoping the customer will just leave and stop complaining. What I want BT to do is to honour their contractural commitment and provide me with the service stated in my contract, the service I have paid for and continue to pay for. BT are quite happy to take your money but dont want to invest in their infrastructure and provide a decent service, especially for customers in rural areas. Perhaps they should consider this before they enter into a contract, afterall it is a two way agreement.
I now feel so frustrated with BT's inefficiency that I want to take my case to the ombudsman but BT refuse to provide a deadlock letter and transcripts of calls, prefering to employ some sort of delaying tactic.
I wish I'd nver entered into a contract with BT, my internet still doesnt work and despite admissions by BT staff that it is their problem I'm expected to just put it down to experience and walk away!
The manager that I spoke to yesterday assured me that I would be compensated for loss of service but would not commit to putting that into a letter or email, why? If that is what is going to happen then be willing to put it in writing. A shocking customer service experience and judgng by the other posts on these forums I'm not alone.

Help with installation problems for PE 12; error while installing Shared Technologies. Suggestions?

Help. I've tried to install PE12 multiple times without success due to shared technology installation failure. The install gets right to the end and then fails when trying to launch and uninstalls. Per the help suggestions, I downloaded the ASA, which identified no problems.
Very frustrating.
Any suggestions for someone who is not too tech savvy?

In Windows what has always worked for me is ending any already running PSE/PRE processes from previous or current versions - look for anything with 'Elements' in the name, and 'dynamiclinkmanager.exe'. Then I run the setup program by right-clicking and selecting 'Run as Administrator'. This runs the setup program with even higher privileges than a user account with Administrator privileges.

I have wrote the method, and got it to work, at the moment though I havent gotten it to loop, and I do not know the command for looping, could someone please tell me the command so I can add it to my program.

The program I am using to write this is called BlueJThis has nothing to do with your problem. It is a tool to help you write java, nothing more. The program you are really using is the java compiler. In fact, in your next post here, consider having a better subject header. The one you listed suggested that this was an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) problem rather than a simple java problem. By mislabeling this header, I will bet that you cut the number of folks reading your question by more than half.

Newbie needs help Please - mail problems

Help Needed Please.
First of all it started a couple of weeks ago i would enter my mail and receive a message saying that the IMAP server didnt reconise
my password even though i was entering it correctly. My email address i have kept when i chan ged from BT over to Virgin.
But we have had the imac 6 months now and its beeen performing brilliant.
Anyway like a idiot i tried to change settingxs and try different options, and now i have wiped my keychain (even tho got no idea what a keychain is)
and my email settings are messed up.
Didnt know if i should do a system restore??
Any Genius at there thanks in advance and im sure your all kringing with my lack of mac knowledge

Somewhere (hopefully) you will have a note of your email user name and password provided by your ISP. It should note the server addresses for ingoing and outgoing servers. If you haven't got these details they are likely available on the FAQs of your ISPs website.
Assuming you are using Apple's Mail app for email the route to adding/editing the relevant data is:
Mail>Preferences>Accounts tab. You then need to add/edit the data under the various tabs. Check that the SMTP server has all the correct details by clicking in the drop-down menu and selecting 'Edit SMTP server list'. Make sure the details are correctly entered.

Help me identify problem for slow export on a powerful machine

Hi,
I am exporting an interview in Premiere Pro CC. It is 1:45:00 long and it has been 20 hours since, but the export is only 94% complete.
Project & Footage:
The footage is a combination of DSLR footage - 5D Mark III, GH3, 650 & 550D.
The edit is all straight cuts with: {a} Color corrector on each clip to match all cameras {b} NEAT - reduce noise on around 10% clips {c} Sharpen (10-30) & {d} An adjustment layer overall with a 3-way color corrector for a simple color grade.
Hard Drives:
E: SSD-RAID for the source footage (Samsung 840 SSD on RAID-0)
D: SSD for previews and cache (Samsung 840 Pro)
C: SSD for Windows, Adobe CC & all programs (Samsung 840 Pro)
G: Simple Seagate Hard disk for Export (used to be a 3 disk RAID but 2 drives crashed some time back)
Other Machine Spec:
Intel i7-3930K overclocked by 10%
64GB RAM
GTX-770 GPU
This is my longest project to date in terms of total time, but last time I did a 1:00:00 project, took around 2 hours not 20.
My concern is I need to understand where the bottleneck is?
My CPU is hardly working a sweat - 40% at max
My RAM is plenty - being used 40-70%
GPU is not even being used in anything (see it at 0%)
Disks (which I was sure was the bottleneck) barely cross 10MB/s
Checked the "power options" in Windows also - everything is set to maximum performance.
It was a big mistake not to send it to Media Encoder as I could have continued editing a different project. Biggest. Mistake. Ever! (no idea why Adobe does not make it a default behaviour?)
I am fairly new to the industry and till last year was using a MacBook Pro until I started getting demanding projects.
I want to know is this normal? If I had used NEAT video for 100% footage then probebly I could have understood this, but its used for only 1/10th of thr footage and I have used NEAT before (but on After Effects CS6) on my Macbook pro (nowehere near as fast as my current machine) and it only added a small overhead - nothing of this sort.
I expected maybe 3 hours to export this 90-100 min seqeunce, not over 1 day.
So what could be the reason? Why isn't one of the above (CPU, RAM, Disk, GPU) at 100%?
I expected 1 of these to be the bottleneck but nothing is crossing 50% even when it should be on full blast.
I dread what if there is small tweak required in the edit once its complete. This video is due on Monday, I would have to reencode for 24 hours.
Please experts - let me know your thoughts. Could it be that Creative Cloud Windows is slower than CS6 Mac & its not a hardware problem?
I am sure I am missing some hardware that is causing this bottlenck. Attaching resource Monitor screenshot (let me know if I should use some benchmark software for you guys to get more information).

UPDATE: My export crashed (and heart sank) after 96% (25 hours). Win7 restarted. I have no clue why (If someone has any tip how to seach logs/dump in Windows to find a reason how, please let me know - I was worried about CPU temperature but that was around 40 deg, I was monitoring it.)
Anyways, so I used Media Encoder now (instead of direct export in PrPro) and made 2 changes:
1. I unchecked "Render Maximum Depth" just as it is in the the default Youtube 1080p@24p preset (but kept the keyframing distance at 24 instead of 72 which is default).
2. From VBR - 2 Pass, I made it CBR
Its been 15 min I started the export and the video is 20% encoded already, with remaning time just 00:30 min.
Now I am flabergasted.
Did not using maximum depth & VBR- 2 pass alone make such a difference? From 30 hours to 1 hour? I am still using all the video effects and absolutely no change to the edit.
I am seeing 2 differences the way my machine is working:
1. Is Adobe somehow using some old renders it did for the last export? I am using disk utility and it is refering to original source files and some "Media Encoder preview files" which I think it was not using before (could be wrong)?
So all that hard work it did for 25 hours is being utilized and if I do such a project again it will take me 30 hours again. Right?
2. GPU is now being used (and to good effect). How is GPU being used now? I am not scaling or using any fancy effects. Just Neat Video, 3-way color corrector & Sharpen.

Need Help Please - PSD InDesign (for print)?

I'm a graphic designer for a company that has decided to run some print ads in a magazine. At the time, I only had Photoshop to create their advertisement with. Now they have purchased CS4, which will make my life easier in the future, however, for now I have the problem of creating my advertisement made with Photoshop and creating a print ready PDF.
Here is my problem:
- I created a PSD at 8.5" x 11" at 300ppi
- I did not take in to account for the 0.125" bleeds and 1/8" trim
- It needs to be SWOP compliant (I figured out I can export a PDF that adheres to SWOP)
- Fonts should be Type 1 Postscript, no TTF (I'm using Helvetica and Arial, when I export the PDF, it says the embedded fonts are TTF)
- I'm totally lost with regards for designing work for print!
Here the specs they gave me, AFTER I created the design in Photoshop

I've never done print work before, as I'm mainly a graphic designer for the web.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately for me, they bought the advertisement space with the magazine for the running of the next issue before speaking with me. So I'm under extreme pressure to get this underway. I'll be most grateful for any help or guidance, Thanks guys!

You can Place a PSD in Indesign, but unless the bleed is a single color,
it's going to be easier to add bleed in Photoshop. Bleed is whatever
gets cut off when they trim the paper. Trim is close, but not exact, so
whatever picture or color goes to the edge of the paper must extend
beyond the edge to avoid trim including some white when the trim is not
quite perfect. If it's a picture that goes to the edge, you need to
figure out a way to extend the picture beyond the edge. If it's white
that goes to the edge, then you don't need bleed. If it's a non-tone
color field (a single color) then you could Place the PSD in Indesign
and add bleed color behind it and extending beyond the edge of the page.
The magazine should not concern themselves with TT or T1 fonts, either
one should work. That said, Helvetica and Arial are very close. If your
Helvetica is Type 1, just use Helvetica for the whole thing. If you
embed it in the PDF, it should show there as a Type 1 subset.

Need help in creating prompt for Month To Date Report.

Hi All I need to create a Month To Date Report using month(Start date & End date) as prompts, By default it has to run on the previous month data or if user selects his own range of dates then it has to bring the data for that range of dates ,one more thing is i am not showing the month and date columns on the report.Can any one help me how to create prompt for this in DeskI XIR2

Could you clarify some things? You are saying you are trying to transform the xml output of a webservice with an xsd, but an xsd is a schema that describes the allowed format of a xml file. If you want to transform xml from one format to an other (from one xsd to an other) you have to use a xsl file. You can make and test this with JDeveloper. Are you calling the webservice from esb or bpel?

Help please , screen problem with my 2GB ipod nano

Hello guys
A month ago i had to change the battery for my ipod , after that eveything worked fine for awhile then the screen was half blank and half i can see the menu, so i thought its a problem with the screen to i odered another one , and when i installed it , the ipod turn on and the pc can recognize it , but there is noting come up on the screen , just the background light, but noting on the screen , not even the mac logo.
anyone know whats why this ?
i hope i can find a solution here
