Help please (not blather): Fix/Disable CS3 palette fade-in/fade-out

My other thread got clogged with lots of insults and useless comments.
For those of you who have a problem with slow fade-in/out of CS3 palettes, I am asking for possible solutions to this problem, thanks.
I am not asking for misdirection, insults, suggestions to get a new machine, etc, thanks.
I am courteously asking for anyone with a practical solution, including hacking the binary or whatever, to stop the useless fade-in/out of palettes on CS3.
Thank you.

Okay, I switched my primary Scratch drive over to a different IDE internal disk volume with 23 GB free. (Then I quit & restarted PS)
I have 2GB (max) RAM on the dual G4. 67% of installed RAM is assigned to PS.
Having the other Separate IDE Disk as the Scratch volume made No difference in the fade-in speed.
I also tried stuffing a heavy QT encode into the system, which takes 80% of both CPUs when running. This does make a bit of difference, perhaps 0.5 secs overall.
Opening a large-ish document in PS ( 580 MB ) causes the fade-in to slow down a little bit, perhaps by 0.5 seconds slower.
With this large image, trying BOTH Raptor and IDE internal hard disks for Scratch, made No difference in fade-in time. So, no way is the fade-in slowness due to the Scratch disk setup.
Except for the video card, my sys looks pretty much like Ramon's. I have never enabled Dashboard (CPU hog), and Spotlight is disabled on my Sys and Scratch volumes (same disk, separate partitions).
One more bit of info: the Fade-In always looks like it takes only two steps, (1) 50% opaque over desktop, (2) 100% opaque and ready. 2nd monitor is 1600x1200 x 24bit via PCI video card.
I have perhaps 150 font families installed under 10.4.11 and use Unsanity's FontCard, but most of my work images do not include any fonts.
Unless it's the Fonts, or the Video card (soon to be tested), I don't know what else it could be.
New Info: (Don't know why I didn't try this earlier, too tired at 2:30am...) I moved all my palettes over to my main monitor (AGP slot, ATI 9000 Pro on 1920 x 1200 Apple Cinema Display)... The fade-in is much quicker there; around 1.5 seconds to fade the palettes in.
Again it happens in two steps of fade, just faster than on the 2nd monitor. This leads me to believe its the video card, and perhaps the new 9700 AGP will fix this problem...
Also, the fewer the number of palettes open, the faster the fade-in on the main monitor... Looks like a simple "too much graphics to build, paint & fade" to me...

  • Help please: gradient to follow shape 'swirl' then fade out to transparent

    Hi
I was wondering if anyone could possible help me on the best way to go about what i would love to achieve...
Above is my shape that I have created (its a swirl to go above some text for a logo) I would like the gradient to follow the swirl around rather than being at a fixed angle that it is currently now.  I am trying to create a light moving type effect really with the CYMK colours... I would like each edge at the LHS end to be either in colour then the centre bit to be fading to transparent (or vice versa - not decided yet) so the end looks like something similar to below.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am relatively new to illustrator and only really know the basics of basics that have seemed to have got my by so far but would love to know & learn more...
    Many thanks,
    T

That's how I got to Carnegie Hall…Practice…Practice…Practice:and of course the subway I took and the ticket I bought.
It was a really good show and worth the effort.
You'll get there once you're familar with the tool.
A hint in CS 5 and beyond you can give an point in the gradient mesh transparency. Select the point and go to the Transparency Panel and lower the opacity and there you are.

my iPad is disabled - connect to itunes... HELP please

You will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode for your computer's iTunes to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

  • Can someone help please, not sure how to do..

    hi everyone,
could really do with some help on what steps i need to take in order to take my computer back to the start, im giving my mac to my sister and i dont want her to have any of the files/information on there and she doesnt want it either, have saved what i need and now just need to find the button/steps to enable me to take the machine back to the beginning? i know how to do it on a sony laptop but cant find it on the mac. Id be really grateful for any help as shes coming to collect it tomorr!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your best option will be to do an Erase and Install together with your sister. This will allow you to completely erase the hard drive, and she will be able to see the "Welcome" screen and use the Setup Assistant to put in her own information and password.
According to your profile, you will be reinstalling Tiger?
Insert the DVD. Print out the "Read Me" and "Welcome to Tiger" so that you have them handy to refer to if you need to. Then double click the Install Mac OSX to boot from the DVD.
Before starting the installation, select your language and go to the utilities menu. Select the First Aid tab and then select the hard drive by brand name. Verify the Disk and repair if necessary. You don't want to do an installation on a disk that has any kind of problems. If there are any problems which cannot be repaired by Disk Utility, please post back with them.
If you like, you can go ahead and partition and format and erase the hard drive while you are in Disk Utility. This is often done before a fresh installation of the OS. If you need instructions, please post back.
Go on to the installation and follow the directions and agree to the licensing agreement. Then on the next screen, you will select the destination drive and you will see a button called "Options". Click on this button. Select "Erase and Install". Format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then click OK to continue.
On the next screen, you can choose "Easy Install" or "Customize". The "Customize" option will allow your sister to delete any languages and printer drivers that she doesn't need and will free up a little hard drive space. Then you can click on "Install" to finish.
Your sister should be prepared to create her account, which means she will want to have selected a password. She should also have her "short name" selected, as that cannot be changed later. If she wants to set up her internet account immediately, she should also have that information at hand, although that can be done later. Ditto with the Apple I.D.
After everything is set up, reboot the computer. Go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and drag to Dock. Open disk Utility and select the hard drive by brand name and click on the First Aid tab. Repair Disk Permissions until there is nothing left to repair.
If the DVD is not the latest version, your sister should connect to the internet and go to the Apple download site and Download the Mac OS X 10.4.11 combo update. Repair permissions afterwards. There may be other updates to do as well. Always repair permissions before and after any software installation.
If you need any clarification on any of this, please post back.
    Good luck!

  • Using Streamclip for FCE import of DVD.......HELP please, not happy

    Hi there friends...
Using Streamclip to import a dvd (I shot some stuff and popped it on dvd) or two for use in Final Cut Express...
I select the .VOB files to use and it does its thing.....but when I preview (before exporting), there are fine lines on movement..
I.E when people move/ hands have lines all over them etc.
What can I do to fix this.....?
AND, What are the mest exporting settings?
    Regards,
    Chris

import to fce without interlacing and keeping as much quality as possible....
Your requirements are contradictory. Deinterlacing the footage will throw half of the pixels away, reducing quality. The DVD images are already highly compressed MPEG 2 files.
Interlacing is not a fault, it is the technique used to present the image on a television. A computer monitor cannot display a television image correctly because it cannot display interlaced video correctly.
Setting the Viewer and Canvas window size in FCP to something other than 100% will force it to display the video frames as a single field.
If you do decide to deinterlace, it should be done using the final edited master exported from FCP and only if your delivery method uses non interlaced playback, such as a web site. If it is going to be shown on a TV, keep it interlaced.

  • HELP PLEASE - Notes Files Disappeared

    I’m completely stunned.
I just tried to look at one of my iPhone notes to pull up some important data and noticed that all but one of them are gone. Poof – vanished.
I had spent hours entering this information – much of which I don’t have replicated elsewhere – thinking that the **** stuff would stay there on my phone (and backed up on my PC) until I edited or deleted them. Only to discover they can just magically disappear.
If this is a synching issue, than that’s a problem. All the notes were painstakingly entered by hand on my phone. I’ve never entered any notes on my PC so there’s absolutely no reason why synching should EVER override or delete any of my Notes. No reason whatsoever!!
I can’t begin to describe how livid I am that this could happen. I’m assuming that most people use Notes to store important information they want at their fingertips (confirmation numbers, flight information and frequent flyer numbers, etc.) Heck, I even had a notes page to record cute anecdotes related to my two little toddlers which I tend to quickly forget unless I jot them down right after they happen.
Maybe this is something that’s easily restored, and if so, good job Apple, for at least ensuring that important data isn’t randomly lost. If on the other hand those programmers managed to F this one up and created a synching process that will randomly deletes important files for no good reason….. then that’s a fatal flaw in my book and I’ll be **** ****** I ever switched to an iPhone.
And please don’t tell me that there’s a little pop-up that says some files will be modified or deleted when I synch. I expect files to be modified, deleted or overwritten when I synch, that's the way it should be. It should happen all the time, but ONLY when I actually modify or change or delete them. Not at random by a f’d up synching program.
Sorry for my attitude, but as I mentioned earlier, I am stunned. It’s not the time (hours) that I invested putting all this important stuff into various iPhone notes files, it’s the fact that unless this information can be recovered somehow, much of that data will be irrecoverable.
Since I haven't pulled up my Notes files in the last week or two, I have no idea when these files were erased. If anyone knows how I might locate and restore this data, please, please, please let me know.
    Thank you!!

There is an enormous glitch with the manner that Notes are being synced between the iPhone & desktops. Or even Apple's own Mail. Even within Mail itself there are huge problems with the system. So I can only imagine the situation on your side.
Excuse my language, but in essence, Apple is sodomizing it's users. For choosing to use Apple software & apps.
How in **** do a whole bunch of simple notes suddenly duplicate themselves when all I did was move them between mailboxes? Then, when I delete the duplicates, how come everything disappears? When I manage to figure everything out, why does a sync with the iPhone not honour the changes?
Wake up Apple engineers. This is not a small issue for the simple fact that Notes was touted as a big feature. So what happens when someone like CA2DC get royally screwed for simply choosing to trust your system?
Dude, feedback through the iPhone or Apple website. Here is the link: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Your post will likely be ignored cause nobody has any idea why and how this is happening. I was lucky I had Time Machine and managed to restore the lost notes. All the best!

  • Need help please - not understanding Libraries, etc.

I need to find someone who can help me out because I can’t for the life of me find a customer support phone number for ipod help (imagine that!). Anyway, my hubby got me this great ipod for Christmas, the big one that holds everything. I have finally gotten good at bringing 10-15 cds into work with me everyday and downloading them on my ipod while I work. This has been going great, as I have about 600 cds I want to get downloaded so I can get rid of all the cds. Well, last week, my computer was running really slow and I noticed that there was a “My Music” file in my documents folder and it was HUGE! Every time I was downloading something to my ipod, it was also copying it there. So, I deleted that Music folder from my computer, as I didn’t want to get in trouble here at work for having it on there. When I did that, I apparently deleted the files that my ipod Library reads from. Now, I know this isn’t a huge deal if I had copied everything over to my ipod Music file, out of the library music file. But, there were a few songs I had not copied over, a few I had bought, so I guess now they are lost forever? Also, why can’t my ipod music file serve as the library as well and why can I not use any computer to so this? I can’t store music files of this size on any computer anywhere, work or home, so what am I to do?

The concept of the iPod is a mobile version of your iTunes library - which is stored on your computer. So when you import CDs you are importing them to your computer, as you discovered, in your My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music directory. By default, when you attach your iPod, iTunes syncs your iPod to the contents of the library you created on your PC. There are options which control the compression ratio of the songs which controls the overall size of the library (and the sound quality of the songs).
If you are concerned about storing your library on your work PC it would be better to use your own PC at home. If you don't have room for your entire library, you can either buy an inexpensive external hard drive, or select the "Manage contents manually" iPod preference so that you can delete your files once they're on the iPod. But this is dangerous if you don't keep a copy of your library burned to a CD, because (again, by default) music is copied only from iTunes to your iPod, not from the iPod back iTunes. There is software you can buy to do this, but that's another topic. If you delete your library then reconnect your iPod, the contents of the iPod are lost because iTunes is syncronizing the iPod to itself.
I can't answer your question about purchased music, because I only use my own CDs (purchased music is too compressed for my taste).
Since you haven't gone too far in creating your library, I would start over, at home. Import everything, add your album artwork, adjust all the information (like genres) to your liking, then backup your library to DVD or CD. An easy way to do this is to create a playlist and drag all your music into it, then select "burn playlist to disc" and follow the instructions.
Another good thing to do (before you start) is go to the "Importing" preferences and select the default bitrate iTunes will use. 128Kbps is the default, which is the highest compression (and lowest quality). Try a few other bitrates (importing the same song, preferably of acoustic instruments, over and over) and see what bitrate you like. To some, 128 is good enough. IMO, 224 is a good compromise. The average compression rate is about 8:1 and it sounds good (to me, anyway)...

  • Help please  ¿how to fix this?

today i plugged in my ipod touch 4g and itunes send me an error that cannot connet with my ipod and asked me to restore it, then when it finished retoring itunes send:unknown error-42408 and when i sync the ipod the music didnt download to the ipod then i tred my manual choosing and the didnt download so i donwload the itunes new version and its the sameee help me pleaaseee (sorry for my bad english)

    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

Hopefully this will format alright, but my question is, is that why is it giving me this error... it happens in the create multiples function(the last function in this code block) this is a jlayeredpane which is called by a JApplet. Any ideas on the loading? Its in the getImages() fuction.

These are the lines it dies on.... the System.out.println(piece.toString()); precisely. I don't know if I am not getting the images from the directory right... or if I need to make sure this is in a JAR file or not.

  • I really need emergency iphone help- please- it has gone into restoration mode and wont come out unless i click restore- if i do will i loose all my photos and videos etc? please help!!!

i recently plugged my iphone4 into my laptop to sync, when i plugged it in, itunes told me that i needed to update my software, so i clicked up date and walked awayfrom my computer leaving it to do the rest, but by the time i came back to my laptop 2-3 hours later i had realized that it has run out of charge and because of it my phone had gone into retoration mode- and the only way to fix it was to press restore. what do i do? do i click restore or will that take my phone back to factory settings as i have a tonne of photos and videos etc that i have not backed up yet?
what should i do anny coments or ideas please let me know!

The first step in the upgrade process is a backup.
Did iTunes not create a new backup when you first connected it?
You really should be syncing your device and copying pictures off of it on a regular basis.
Starting an upgrade without first syncing and copying the pictures off is not a bright idea.
At this point, you only option is to restore.
Also, in the future, ensure your laptop is plugged into external power before starting upgrades.

  • Help, please: how can we see who Tiger mail is keeping out of email?

I just upgraded to Tiger and I'm noticing I'm getting less email; this is good when it is spam being kept out, but I think it is keeping out some mail I'd like to get... I've added all I can think of to my address book, but I need to see all the emails Tiger is keeping out. How can I do this?
    Thanks,

    iMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

A company I've worked with from the past wrote me via snail mail complaining they could no longer reach me through email as apparently they'd been blocked, but not by me. In fact, I'd temporarily forgotten all about them but because I intend to work with them again at some point, I put their address in my address book to remedy this. It got me to wondering who else might be having trouble getting through. I was hoping to sort this out somehow.
    Thanks,

  • Feature Request: Disable Checkbox for Palette Fade in CS3

    Dear Adobe Team,
please be so kind and give us a switch to disable the - Palette Fade Feature - of the CS3 Applications.
It just distracts (some of us) from work. - Fast Copy/Paste actions are a bit harder this way, even though it's fast on new machines. (Which is obvious because
Even though some of us bought new fast computers to have programmes INSTANTLY available.
I'm looking so much forward to your response
    Florian Schommertz
Dear Forum - please make this a petition to have this checkbox available, and DO NOT start another, RAM/G4/G5 discussion about the speed of the palette fading.
Just, sign with your Name, and/or, Account ID here and help us all get rid of the GUI-Desaster.
    Thanx!

This is not the feature request forum nor the feature request form. If you really want to make this a feature request do a search for feature request and submit an actual feature request/bug report form to Adobe. All you are doing here is feature requesting to other users that can do nothing about the issue.

Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
