I got this error when I tried to restore from my backup with create new control file. Are you sure your backup is consistent cold backup.
Cause: An incomplete recovery session was started, but an insufficient number of logs were applied to make the file consistent. The reported file was not closed cleanly when it was last opened by the database. It must be recovered to a time when it was not being updated. The most likely cause of this error is forgetting to restore the file from a backup before doing incomplete recovery.
Action: Either apply more logs until the file is consistent or restore the file from an older backup and repeat recovery.

Change database from NoArchivelog to Archivelog
Hi,
I currently using oracle9i(9.2.0.2) under w2k. How can I change database from NoArchivelog node to Archivelog node?
Thanks
KenIf your using an spfile, then you can do the suggested using ALTER SYSTEM with the SCOPE=spfile; condition otherwise when you restart your instance the changes won't be recognized (if you're using an init.ora file then change it in the init.ora, but don't try to edit the spfile with a text editor, you'll corrupt it)
With the database open, issue
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_start = true SCOPE=spfile;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_1 = "location=c:\Oracle\oradata\orcl817\archive" SCOPE=spfile;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_format = %%ORACLE_SID%%T%TS%S.ARC SCOPE spfile;
Then do the shutdown and mount etc. as described above

Recover database in NOarchivelog mode :)
Hi all. How to recover a database wich is in noarchivelog mode? B-)
Suppose,
I have 3 redolog groups (with two members in each, the second members are located on another drive ). When first redo log group was 1/2 full I took a full backup. Then there were 2 switches from first to second and from second to third. Now the currnet redolog group - 3 (just started). At this point we faced media failer. How to roll forward changes using backup + online redologs?
Edited by: Junior Oracle DBA on Oct 16, 2008 1:53 PMRestore your database cold backup (excluding redo logs).
Then issue this command :
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE
provide the names of the last ACTIVE / CURRENT Redo Logs in the database when Oracle prompts for an ArchiveLog.
When Oracle has finished recovery to a consistent point in time, it will return to the command prompt without any error.
Now issue this command :
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS
You would have a Complete Recovery.
This is provided that Oracle had NOT cycled through all the Online Redo Logs since the time when the Cold Backup was taken. (If Oracle had cycled through all the Online Redo Logs, it would have overwrriten the oldest log because it wasn't in ArchiveLog mode).

How to Recover database from old backup and full archive log file
Hi Oracle expert!
I met problem when restore my oracle database.
In my case:
- My database version: 10.2.0.2
- I have a database full backup (01-Nov)
- I have all Archived log file from (01-Nov -> 05-Nov)
- My database drop in 05-Nov with disk error (no datafile, no redo..).
- I have no any RMAN backup from (01-Nov -> 05-Nov)
How can i restore my database to 05-Nov?

Hi Chinar.
When i used RMAN flow as your step, but i met the problem!
- After recover database i select sequence#, applied from v$archived_log;
--> it apply newest archived log that i had.
- but when I select Data from table created between 01-Nov to 05-Nov, it not found!
Not the same way the step:
SQL> RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL?
It apply newest the same archived log i had table created between 01-Nov to 05-Nov.
How can i do with RMAN to recover my table? That is not possible,if your all available archive logs applied using rman or through sqlplus(recover database using backup controlfile until cancel) and one of these logs contain your table then there are not any problems. So there are not any difference between recovery using rman and user managed(using sqlplus),but there main matter is applying all archive logs.So first check through rman list copy of archivelog all or list backup of archivelog all and identify there in rman repository is any information or not about these logs. -
How to recover database from .mdf file
create a database of
equal size to the one you're trying to attach
shutdown the server (Stop)
swap in the old mdf file (replace new .mdf file with .mdf file to be recovered )
Location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA
bring up the server (start) and let the database attempt to be recovered and then go into suspect mode
put the database into emergency mode with ALTER DATABASE
run DBCC CHECKDB (dbname, REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) which will rebuild the log and run full repair
Your database will be available again but you'll have lost data and the data won't be transactionally consistent
USE [master]
GO
ALTER DATABASE [RdmStoreInformation] SET EMERGENCY
GO
ALTER DATABASE [RdmStoreInformation] SET SINGLE_USER
GO
DBCC CHECKDB ([RdmStoreInformation], REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)
GO
ALTER DATABASE [RdmStoreInformation] SET MULTI_USER
GO
ALTER DATABASE [RdmStoreInformation] SET ONLINE
GO
This is a issue I had to fix and it's solution listed here for your reference(I gathered all the In-formations by surfing web)Interesting, did you get any errors trying to attach the .mdf file?

Need help recovering data from an Xsan volume
Ok, let me preface this by saying that I've never used Xsan, so I'm not sure if I'm using the terminology correctly. Feel free to correct me or point me in the right direction so that I may provide better clarification.
I've got a new client who has about 5 tb of data locked up in a Netgear ReadyNAS that was set up as an Xsan device on a Mac Pro Server running Lion Server 10.7.4. This was set up by a previous IT services company, and we were preparing to move all of their data to a regular RAID NAS device (there is no use for an Xsan in this office environment) and initiate backup solutions. However, several days ago, the server's boot volume crashed fatally and could not be recovered. There was no backup of the boot volume, so we had to start again from scratch. Since reinstalling Lion Server on the Mac Pro, we have been unable to retrieve the data off of the Netgear ReadyNAS.
There is no backup of the data on the drive, so we're treating this with kid-golves as far as our approach. So far we've tired connectng to the NAS, but are only seeing a couple of shares that don't appear to hold any data. We've been on the phone with Apple's Enterprise Support Group, and been escalated up to the point of having to pay for higher-end supporty. At that point, we phoned Netgear Support to see what they could offer. They're kindly looking into it over the weekend by logging in remotely, but I'm here to ask if there's anyone here who might have experience with a smilar siuation.
I've been really hesitant to try and connect to the drive with Xsan Admin, as I want to ensure that nothing gets deleted. Does anyone have a suggestion as to something we might try to get at this data? It seems like it would be a simple matter of connecting to the drive, but that's proving to not be the case.I read this and began to shake. You should track down the solution provider and choke them.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but based on your post, the data is likely lost forever and this is for many reasons.
First, you do not describe the presence of a meta data backup. This is mistake number 1 of whoever set this solution up. Deploying an Xsan with a single controller is foolish at best, negligent at worst. Without it, you have no replication of the volume config information. Are there SAN clients in this scendario or was there just the controller and folders reshared over file services?
Next, you mention the boot volume failed with no backup. Based on this description, it sounds like the boot volume was not a mirror boot so all data was on one platter. The failure of that platter means the failure of everything. Your only recourse here is to send the drive out to a drive recovery service or attempt a controller board swap (fingers crossed it is just the controller that failed). With some luck they can recover enough of the drive to allow you to sticth this together. This is mistake number 2.
Next, the files that you REALLY need, /Library/FileSystems/Xsan/*, were never backed up. With the loss of the boot volume, these files are now not available. If the Xsan config files were present you could, in theory, stitch together a new controller and resurrect that volume.
And finally, you do not describe a backup solution for the San volume. Cry....
I am sorry for your loss. If there are more details or the conditions are better than you describe, reply. Otherwise, bite the bullet and get that drive out to a data recovery service and pray. -
Help recovering files from an incomplete time machine backup.
I set up a network drive as a time machine backup for my mac and my wife's. As the initial backup was being created, her hard drive crashed!
Most of her drive had been backed up. After some reading I was able to repair the .sparsebundle file which contained the partial backup and mount it. Once mounted there is a .inprogress file which is the partial time machine backup. I can right click and choose "Show Package Contents". This lets me browse the folders backed up folders and see that most or all of her files are there, I have even opened a few office documents and saved a copy.
The problem is that if I try to move any of the files or folders I get Error code - 1426.
I'd rather not have to individually open each document and save as. Is there another way to recover the files? Does anyone know a way to explore the contents of a package in the command line?
Thankstry copying the files from terminal.
use the following terminal command
ditto --noacl path/to/sourcedirectory path/to/destinationdirectory
to get a path to a directory you can drag it to the terminal window.
make sure all the spaces in the above command are there. -
Recover Database in RMAN vs SQL*PLUS
Hello,
Oracle 11.2.0.1, Oracle Linux 5.5 UEK.
I recently did a "recover database" in sql*plus, but an attempt to open the database gave ORA-01113, complaining the system tablespace requried more recovery. Then I used RMAN (nocatalog) and after the same "recover database" command I was able to open the database.
It seems there are differences between SQL*PLUS and RMAN "recover database" command. I have not been able to locate the chapter in the Oracle documentation that explains the difference. I have some ideas, but...
Thanks.
h3. Solution Summary:
The recover command in RMAN compared to SQL*Plus implements a more user friendly processing logic based on the current detected scenario. For instance, a RMAN recover database command may actually perform a "recover database using backup controlfile until cancel" and automatically apply all archived and online redo logs if available. The same can be achieved with the recover command in SQL*plus, but will have to be done manually.
Edited by: Dude on Jan 7, 2011 12:30 PMDude wrote:
I did not remove any datafiles or redo logs. it is the same restore operation as before, and again RMAN "recovery database" succeeds, whereas SQL recover has trouble. This tells me something is different between the two methods. For one, RMAN does not requrie to specify "using backup controlfile".
Maybe someting about "resetlogs" that that RMAN recover can handle and SQL recover not? No,problem is there. If you using rman execute RECOVER DATABASE it also will apply online logs(if available) also and as result you will get complete recovery however you must open database with resetlogs option due to you recovered database using backup controlfile. So also you can recover and open database applying this online logs. After executing RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE you have to pass full path of online log then press ENTER so log will apply and you can open database with RESETLOGS.See below

Its not necessary its a otherway around to recover datafile from this backupset and apply archivelogs to make datafile consistent.
yes, it ain't the right way to restore backup to primary location.
so how would i connect to standby database with primary and recovery catalog.
i need to connect to recovery catalog and primary site because i need to restore to primary location and recovery catalog contain all metadata and backupsets related information.
i also tried the following steps from oracle documentation.
Connect to the standby database as the target database:
CONNECT TARGET sys@standby
You are prompted for a password:
target database Password: password
Connect to the primary database as the auxiliary database:
CONNECT AUXILIARY sys@primary

ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server

Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.

Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
OS X
Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays. -

Recover SQL Server database from SUSPECT mode
Hi Expert DBAs,
As I know the database should be restored from backup and logs reapplied. That’s the first and generally recommended approach any time a DB is suspect, whether it’s from log or data file corruption.
But if I have no backups then we follow below steps ( after Googling I found these steps on most of the websites ):
1.EXEC sp_resetstatus ‘yourDBname’;
2.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET EMERGENCY
3.DBCC checkdb(’yourDBname’)
4.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
5.DBCC CheckDB (’yourDBname’, REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)
6.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET MULTI_USER
Now my question is,
1. If after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, it shows inconsistency. Then I will execute SET SINGLE USER WITH ROLLBACK & if after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, no errors found. Then what will be the steps?
2. When we execute DBCC CHECKDB (' DBNAME ', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) how can we recover lost data during process. As far as I know some data will loss and if it will happen then business will get suffered.
3. Why run DBCC CHECKDB() WITH REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS if there are no consistency errors in the database?
I am stucked in these questions....

Yashwant Vishwakarma | www.sqlocean.comThere is no easy or same steps, it all depends on what error and what caused suspect.
Example is below:
http://www.sql-server-performance.com/2015/recovery-sql-server-suspect-mode/
2) Straight answer would be no you cant recover if no backup. Again it all depends what error checkdb returns and some things can be tried as explained earlier but no guarantee.
The REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option is not the best option for bringing a database to a physically consistent state. If successful, the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option may result in some data loss. In fact, it may result in more data lost than if a user were to
restore the database from the last known good backup. Microsoft always recommends a user restore from the last known good backup as the primary method to recover from errors reported by DBCC CHECKDB. The REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option is not an alternative
for restoring from a known good backup. It is an emergency “last resort” option recommended for use only if restoring from a backup is not possible.
Certain errors, that can only be repaired using the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option, may involve deallocating a row, page, or series of pages to clear the errors. Any deallocated data is no longer accessible or recoverable for the user, and the exact contents
of the deallocated data cannot be determined. Therefore, referential integrity may not be accurate after any rows or pages are deallocated because foreign key constraints are not checked or maintained as part of this repair operation. The user must inspect
the referential integrity of their database (using DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS) after using the REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS option.
