Change database from NoArchivelog to Archivelog

Hi,
I currently using oracle9i(9.2.0.2) under w2k. How can I change database from NoArchivelog node to Archivelog node?
Thanks
Ken

If your using an spfile, then you can do the suggested using ALTER SYSTEM with the SCOPE=spfile; condition otherwise when you restart your instance the changes won't be recognized (if you're using an init.ora file then change it in the init.ora, but don't try to edit the spfile with a text editor, you'll corrupt it)
With the database open, issue
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_start = true SCOPE=spfile;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_1 = "location=c:\Oracle\oradata\orcl817\archive" SCOPE=spfile;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_format = %%ORACLE_SID%%T%TS%S.ARC SCOPE spfile;
Then do the shutdown and mount etc. as described above

  • Changing databases from MS SQL Express to MySQL in a  Report at runtime

    Hi all,
    I have an issue in changing databases from MS SQL Express to MYSQL or vice versa in a Report at runtime.
    Here is what I do:
    I create a very simple report with the Crystal Report Designer 2008 V 12.3.0.601.
    This report uses a stored procedure to retrieve it's data. I connect to the Database with JDBC.
    I have two Databases with similar schema and procedures: MS SQL Express an MySQL.
    When I create the report with MSSQL all parameters have the '@' character, as they are named. ok.
    I deploy this report in a JSP application with the crystaldecisions SDK an show it in html viewer format.
    The connection to the MSSQL DB gets established by my JSP and the CRJavaHelper.
    I pass the parameters through my URL to the JSP and finally to the CRJavaHelper (addDiscreteParameterValue)
    and everything works fine.
    The challenge starts, when I try to change the Datasource of this report to MySQL at runtime (which is a requirement in my project).
    I successfully can establish the DBConnection, but my stored procedure just doesn't get called!
    The report just displays totally empty, no Exceptions etc. are thrown. In the DB logfile I see the effort to find my procedure
    and that's all. The Statements called by the SDK finds the correct Procedure, but there's no call to the procedure.
    Of course I know, that MS SQL names it's procedures slightly different (';1' at the end), but even when I rename the table Alias to the correct name in CRHelperJava, I get no call to the procedure in MySQL. I also renamed the parameter-fields in changeDataSource(..) by casting the table to IProcedure and working on its methods. Still no success.
    What am I missing to do or what do I do wrong?
    Any suggestions or even solutions?
    Best Regards,
    Tom

    after all I have managed to set param Values, now I'm stuck because the parms seem to have dissappeared in the formula fields. E.g. I receive this Exception:

  • Changing database to noarchivelog mode during impdp

    Hi Guys,
    I am using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bit Production on RHEL5.
    I am in the middle on the impdp and I want my database to run on noarchivelog as it creates a lot of archivelogs.
    Will it be proper if I stop the import:
    e.g Import> STOP_JOB=IMMEDIATE
    and shutdown the database put the database on noarchivelog mode.
    then opne database and
    impdp hr/hr@mydb ATTACH=myfulljob Will these work fine?
    Or should I execute:
    alter system archive log stop;
    Please Help !!!!!!!!!!!

    Running the database in Noarchivelog mode means you should be ready to lose data incase there is any crash. I would recommend you to change the size of the redologs so that it will not create frequent archivelogs. Which does nothing about the space required for the archivelogs. If you are generating redo at the rate of 1gb/hour, you will consume archivelog dest space at the rate of 1gb/hour. Doesn't matter if those files are 10mb each or 100mb each.
    If space is the problem then use a shell script to move the archivelog to another location (Tape)....And hopefully that shell script is invoking rman to do the work, so that in the event of recovery, rman will know that backups were taken and where they are located.

    I got this error when I tried to restore from my backup with create new control file.Are you sure your backup is consistent cold backup.
    Cause: An incomplete recovery session was started, but an insufficient number of logs were applied to make the file consistent. The reported file was not closed cleanly when it was last opened by the database. It must be recovered to a time when it was not being updated. The most likely cause of this error is forgetting to restore the file from a backup before doing incomplete recovery.
    Action: Either apply more logs until the file is consistent or restore the file from an older backup and repeat recovery.

  • Changing Database from 11G R1 to 11G R2. Do I reinstall OBIEE 11.1.1.5?

    Vista 64, single machine setup. I currently have Oracle 11G R1 Database (11.1.0.7) installed and also OBIEE 11G (1.1.1.5) installed, with its repository in this existing Oracle 11G R1 Database (11.1.0.7). I am now going to uninstall the existing database (11.1.0.7) and do a fresh install of a new Oracle Database 11G R2 (11.1.2.0).
    Question: Can I somehow keep my current install of OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and point it to the new 11G R2 (11.1.2.0) database? Or should I uninstall OBIEE 11.1.1.5 also and do a fresh OBIEE 11.1.1.5 install once the new 11G R2 database(11.1.2.0) is installed?
    I don't need to maintain anything (data, dashboards, reports, etc) from the existing OBIEE 11.1.1.5 installation. Just looking for advice on the easiest route to take on this. Thanks.

    Hi All
    I know this is a little bit old post. But wanted to share some information.
    1. When a OBIEE Domain is created, it access the rcu schemas using DataSources. These DataSources can be edited from Weblogic Console anytime. Basically these files will have actual RCU Schema details like db host, port, username, password, any JNDI Names. The physical files are located at this location (in typical windows default it will be like this. The value before the user_projects will be different based on the name for middleware home that you give:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware115BI\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\jdbc
    DO NOT edit these files manually. But login into weblogic console, on left side select services -> ..> and each DataSource, and Connection Pool for each datasource and edit the values to refer to the NEW DB host, port, username, password etc. Do this for all the 4 datasources that you find in above location.
    2. Also obiee has something called instance1 that runs the OPMN Services. I am not sure if the rcu db details are reffered here. But if they do then you may have to modify the connection details here also.
    If you are starting from scrach for the very first time, then first install Oracle Database. Run RCU Schema to create obiee schemas. Then install OBIEE. Because at one point if you choose to create simple edition, it does prompt for these rcu database details. So maintain this order of installation.
    Whether its OBIEE weblogic domain or opmn services, we expect them to refer the rcu details something like usign DataSources which are configurable from console or some other way.
    Thanks

  • Changing CMS and Audit Repository databases from Oracle to SQl server 2008

    Hi guys,
      We have a Business Objects Dev environment which was installed with Oracle 10g database for CMS and Audit Repository.
    Our database team now decided to change the CMS and Audit databases of Dev BOE from Oracle to  SQL server 2008.
    What is the ideal way to achieve this? I'm concerned because the old DB is Oracle and the new one would be SQL server.
    Earlier, I have changed CMS database from one to another by stopping SIA , taking the backup of old DB into new and changing it in the Update Databse option. But in that case both old and new CMS databses were on SQL server 2005.
    Thanks,
    Ganga

    Denise,
      Thanks for the solution.
    We have done Windows AD and SAP integration on the Dev BOE. Will there be any issue with those after the DB change. I am guessing there won't be, but just want to confirm. Please reply.
      Also, we need to stop the old SIA and start using the new SIA after the step two is done right?

  • Changing expired password on a cbckend database from a frontend database

    I have a split database with an Oracle backend (BE) and MS Access frontend (FE). My question is how to reset an expired password on the BE from the FE.
    If I log on to the backend via sqlplus an error ORA-28001 (Password expired) occurs and the system immediately prompts for a new password before completing the login process.
    If I log on from the frontend I get the same ORA error from the BE, but as far as I can tell, I can't reset the password from the FE.
    I can capture the error fine at the FE and I am thinking that I could use this to open a dialog to reset the password and change it over the ODBC connection. The problem is that I need to get a connection to the BE database before sending a command to change the password from the FE, but since login cannot be completed from the FE, because of the expired password, I can't get an ALTER USER statement to execute on the BE to reset the password.
    Is there a way to change a pre-expired password on an Oracle backend database from a frontend database? I don't see this as an Oracle/Access problem but as a problem that exists for any split database.

    I have thought about this a little and I am thinking about keeping a table of password update information. I can use this to create a "soft" expired password, using an expiration date in the table for each account. If the password is expired by the database then we can just update it with sqlplus or one of the other options.
    As far as getting the organization to change it is waaaay to big and stupid to change their policy.

  • Frm-40208 from running in query mode. cannot change database fields

    Hi,
    Could some one help me with this.
    I am calling a form from another form. I am passing the parameter list to the calling form and doing a query by setting the block property. But when queries the message
    FRM-40208 Form running in query mode. cannot change database fields .
    I do not want the message to appear when they go the called form . Please some one could help me how could I avoid displaying the message.
    Regards
    Bain

    Hi,
    Good day! I am working with a module that also calls another form. It uses call_form with query mode parameter set to query_only. My problem is, whenever i call the other form using the call_form, it would display the called module and then as it populates the detail block of the called form, it will display frm-40208 from running in query mode. cannot change database fields per record. What I want is for the message to be displayed only once.
    I have tried capturing the error by using on-error trigger, but it doesn't go to that whenever the other form was being called. I think the message has to do with the post-query trigger, because it passes some values on a dbase block objects.
    Do you have any suggested solutions or workarounds to make the message display only once whenever the other form is being invoked by the call_form?
    I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/ideas.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Source database in NOARCHIVELOG temporarily for maintenance

    Hi all,
    We have a big maintenance to run next week end. There will be mostly index rebuild, statistics gathered and so. We are using 10.2.0.3. Source database is a RAC one.
    We would like to put our database in NOARCHIVELOG temporarily during this maintenance windows. This may sound like an easy task, but i rather consider it as a risky one - I need a 100% safe procedure!!
    I wonderer, if there is arcticles in Oracle documentation or Metalink that could help.
    I think I know several of the steps required:
    - Stop the capture
    - Put the database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
    - Re-instantiate the tables using dbms_capture_adm.prepare_table_instantiation on the source database
    - Ré-instantiate the tables using dbms_apply_adm.set_table_instantiation_scn on the destination database
    - I think I will have to advance the SCN on the capture but I'm not sure if I have to change the FIRST_SCN or the START_SCN or both?
    - Put the database back in ARCHIVELOG mode
    - Start the capture
    I'm not sure in wich order i have to do these tasks.
    Thank you for any advice/link on that subjet!
    Jocelyn

    Thanks a lot Rijesh for your response,
    In the meantime, I do my own search and came to the same conclusion.
    I also experimented with note 471695.1 on Metalink (Required Steps to Recreate a Capture Process). It "almost" works! It recreates the capture correctly, but it does not carry the existing table rules... (the content of DBA_STREAMS_TABLE_RULES before dropping the capture).
    So it's probably going to be much easier to recreate the whole thing from scratch (we have an existing procedure that is very mature).

    Jocelyn

  • How to set the database in NOARCHIVELOG mode

    hellow world,
    I knewly joined this organization.
    Our database is very small < 4GB data.
    Database is running in ARCHIVELOG MODE.
    since we are not keeping any physical backup, so I opted to run the datbase in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
    For bringing the database in NOARCHIVE MODE, I simply changed the init.ora parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_START = FALSE and restart the database.
    offcourse the archiving stopped, but to my strange after 30 to 40 minutes my all log files filled an error message is being displayed to the server, saying
    log files are filled, waiting for the archiving, Oh my God, What has happened, All users came to my head, DATABASE HANGED, NOT RESPONSING.
    SIR, MY QUESTION IS
    WHAT FOR ALL LOG FILES WAITING?
    when i am saying NOARCHIEVE than
    please explain me, where i committed mistake. I am new to ADMINISTRATION.

    1. Not keeping any physical backup is all the more reason to stay in archivelog mode.
    2. You need to shutdown the database, startup mount, and issue 'alter database noarchivelog', the alter database open.

  • To startup database in  noarchivelog

    Hi
    All,
    I want to know how can I start database in noarchivelog mode without using
    alter database noarchivelog;
    Is there anything to set with parameter?
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    Try this:
    When database is up,
    sql> alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    sql> shutdown immediate;
    open up the trace file where the control file is created, and edit, instead of archivelog make it to noarchivelog.
    change the setting in pfile too, log_archive_Start=false
    sql> startup pfile='<destination of thepfile>'
    Check it :
    sql> archive log list
    ur database will be in no archivelog mode.

    can you please tell how to restore
    yes it is a datafile corruptionYou did not say how you defined that's a datafile corruption. You provide minimum to zero information.
    I just need to bring the database up,no need any exact data
    I can refresh from prod laterThen drop and recreate database. Basically and since you are not in archive mode, no recover is possible. Period.
    Nicolas.Hi,
    How did you come to the conclusion that your datafile is corrupted? Can you provide and supported logs?
    Regards .....

  • Change archive from time 'sysdate-8' crosscheck;

    change archive from time 'sysdate-8' crosscheck;
    What does this statement do

    I am not sure, but I think that if you have reincarnate your database to your previous backup and uptill some previous archivelog, and the RMAN catalog is pointing to the latest archivelog, so the above command may be used to resync RMAN catalog with your reincarnated database.
    I would love to get corrected.
    Thanks.
