HELP: Setting Chapter Markers in DVDSP - exactly to where the playhead is?

Hi
Can the chapter markers in DVDSP be moved frame by frame? When I try and do this, to keep it exactly where the playhead is it won't let me. I have the Chapter marker window up and put in the exact timecode of say 00:01:34:12, but it will just jump from say 00:01:34:08 to 00:01:34:20 . I just need it to be pretty exact for this one maker due to the music. Any suggestions as to how this can be done in DVDSP? If at all?
I'm trying to get this project out, (i've had major troubles with the dissolve quality exporting from Compressor) and if I can do this all will be ok to get it to my client! Stressing a little as I've been trying to complete this for the last 4 days!
Thanks. Margie

Can the chapter markers in DVDSP be moved frame by frame?
Sorry, that's no possible from inside DVDSP. You can do that in FCP and/or Compressor before encoding your movie. Read the next info that was taken from DVDSP User MAnual:
Placing Chapter Markers Exactly Where You Want Them
Adding markers in Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, iMovie, or Compressor offers the
potentially large advantage of allowing you to position them on the exact frame where
you want them to appear.
When adding markers to a track in DVD Studio Pro, you can only place them at GOP
boundaries. This means that you will often not be able to place them exactly where
you want them. When you place the markers with a video editor, the embedded MPEG
encoder automatically forces an I-frame at that position, placing a GOP boundary
exactly at every marker and providing perfect marker placement. Markers placed in
Compressor before using it to encode the video are also perfectly placed.
Hope that helps !

  • Setting chapter markers

    Hi all
Have scoured the fcp help tome, & the forum... I need to set chapter markers for a very long sequence, then export for DVD studio pro..... Have hit "M" twice & got the chapter marker happening, but it wants a duration, bloomin heck do I need to be a mathematician ? PLEASE tell me there is a simple way of working out the duration between chapters, also the "tome" tells me I can't set chapter markers within 1 sec of the beginning, end, or each other. Each other is good, but what about the beginning ? Insert a 1sec slug at the start ?
    .... Ignorance isn't always bliss.
    Thanks

    Hi Steele, Thanks.
Was doing all that.. hit "M" twice, rename the chapter if I want, click "Add Chapter Marker" (DON'T change "<chapter>" which comes up in the comment area), then hit "OK".
Went through the process several times yesterday & the markers were not being exported ! Got up this morning, did EXACTLY the same process, & hey presto its doing it. I figure like me, my computer must have needed a sleep.
    Thanks again

  • How to set chapter markers in imovie 10

I am looking to set chapter markers at fixed intervals in imovie 10 as well as set custom chapter markers in family videos that I am converting from 8 mm tape.  Does anyone know how to do this in imovie version 10.0.6.  Thanks

Apple has removed the ability to set chapter markers with iMovie 10.
I use iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11. (My favorite is iMovie HD 06.)  Both are readily available on Amazon as part of iLife 06 or iLife 11. With these versions of iMovie one click will set your chapter markers. These markers are automatically recognized by iDVD.

  • Setting Chapter Markers at Specific Times/Scenes

Is it possible to set chapter markers at different time intervals for specific scenes? I have 4 scenes, all different time intervals, that I'd like to mark.

    Hi
    Not in iDVD
Not in iMovie 08 (but previous versions and I think iM'09)
To do this with iLife'08 one has to export to GarageBand and set Chapters here.
    No elegant way at all.

  • Adding chapter markers in DVDSP

I am currently having a problem with my project. One of my tracks was revised by the client. I edited a new sequence in Final Cut Pro with chapter markers at the begenning of every spot. When I saved it as an mpeg-2 I named it the same as it was named previously and replaced it with the new sequence. Usually this would automatically update within my DVDSP project and all would be good. For some reason this time it has updated in DVDSP but it will not recognize chapter marker 1. In order to work around this I am trying to add a chapter marker inside DVDSP but cannot figure out how. I looked at the manual and as of right now can't find that info. Thanks in advance for your time and your input.

    Hi PMO
If you line the playhead up to where you want your marker and press the 'm' key you get a marker in the timeline. IMHO if you're changing an asset in a timeline and giving it new marker positions you're better of creating a new track. Because you can add chapter markers in DVDSP, it will not always recognise new preassigned markers if there's already markers in the timeline.
    Good luck

  • Importing Adobe Premiere m2v's w/chapter markers into DVDSP?

Working on a project where the m2v files are being created by someone else using Adobe Premiere 2.0 on a PC. (They're creating the chapter markers within Premiere)
In my initial tests, I'm able to get the video and audio files (m2v, ac3) into DVDSP, but not chapter markers.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation?
Is there an export setting in Adobe Premiere that would help?
An import setting in DVDSP that would help?
Is it possible to import Adobe Premiere created m2v's into DVDSP with chapter markers?
    Thanks.
    G5 - Dual 2GHz Processor   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

the meta data that premiere stores its chapter marker info is not compatible with dvdsp. That being the case, you could have your friend give you a text document with the timecodes for the chapter markers in a column, each timecode followed by the chapter name if you want something other than the standard "chapter 1, chapter 2" etc.
Because your friend chose the chapter markers in premiere, when the m2v was encoded, the apropriate I-Frames were placed so that in DVDSP you should have no problem placing a chapter marker at the exact timecode your friend specifies.
    hope that helps

  • Re-setting chapter markers in DVD SP

I'm working with a timeline from FCP is already encoded with chapter markers and is quite long and I want to avoid encoding again as it is already in my DVD SP project. What I want to know is can I move a chpter marker accuratly and possibly use the arrow keys to nudge it over?

    Jeff
In DVD SP there will be some limits on how you can move markers, they will not be frame accurate.
I usually use the key commands to jump back and forth between markers, then use inspector to nudge
You can also try to just export the Final Cut movie with the new marker positions and use that to set the markers in DVD SP then use the previously encoded video
Take a look here for this workaround that is good if markers do not show up and also will do what you need now

  • Chapter Markers are off from where I set them in FCP HD

I just completed editing a Hip Hop concert with 12 performers. I put chapter markers at the start of each groups performance in FCP HD. When I exported my project I included the chapter markers as well. I used the new iDVD5 to burn the DVD. I DO have DVD Studio Pro but am not effecient with that yet. Anyway, after the long encoding process and burn, I watched the DVD on my set top DVD player.
When I tested out the DVD skipping from one group to the next, it wouldn't go right to the next group! For some reason the markers were coming up 20-30 seconds before the next performance! So you would see the end of the performance you are currently watching before it switched to the next scene or in my case next group.
The Chapter Markers are placed at the very begining of the groups performance so why after I burn the DVD is it putting the markers up to 30 seconds before where I want it?
Should I try to move the markers forward about 20-30 seconds or so? This is annoying because its perfect in FCP HD but its not placing them in the right places in iDVD5. I should be able to skip to each group as if it were a scene in a movie.
    Any suggestions?

All your problems are related to not having the Record Keyframes button on (A). If you create a keyframe point for your mask position and then advance a few frames in the timeline and start moving those mask positions, a new keyframe is NOT created. Instead the points for the mask shape, INCLUDING the the keyframed position are re-positioned relative to the amount you moved them.
If you are going to manually set keyframes (not at ALL recommended), then you have to set the keyframe BEFORE you make any changes to the mask.

  • Questions regarding chapter markers

I've got a few questions regarding working with chapter markers. First a little background info. I'm working in CS 5.5. I used Dynamic Link to send a Premiere sequence to Encore. In Premiere, I've got another sequence that is an exact duplicate of the original, with just a little text added.
I decided that I need to go back and add chapter markers, so I went through the initial Premiere sequence and added all the Encore Chapter Markers. I'd like all the chapter markers to be consistent in all three locations without having to re-do it manually each time.
Is there any way to bring those markers into Encore withour re-importing the sequence? I kind of figured that was the point of using Dynamic Link, but the markers aren't showing up in Encore.
And then, is there a way to copy those markers within Premiere from one sequence to the other?
Thanks in advance for any help.

(Dear mods: a little overzealous with the thread moving. This had enough to do with Premiere Pro that it could have remained there... and saved me from retyping my reply.)
Is there any way to bring those markers into Encore withour re-importing the sequence?
This part is Encore. In the Encore Timeline containing the PPro sequence you're using with DL, select the sequence/asset, and go to Edit > Update Markers From Source. A warning dialog will pop up about replacing the markers; when you OK it, the markers positions and names will be updated.
And then, is there a way to copy those markers within Premiere from one sequence to the other?
It's not possible to copy and paste markers, but here's a workaround of sorts (assuming your sequences are the same duration and you want the markers at the same times):
Drag the sequence that contains the chapter markers into the sequence that doesn't; because the Encore chapter markers are sequence markers, they'll turn into clip markers when you nest the sequence. Select this nested sequence, and then use the Next (or Previous) Clip Marker (found under Marker > Go to Clip Marker, or with keyboard shortcuts) to jump to each clip marker. When you land on one, add a chapter marker to the sequence; if you don't already, set up a keyboard shortcut for this and it will make adding the markers a breeze. Now, you'll have to add names, if you want them, but at least this will make matching the time much easier.

  • Chapter Markers End Jump Too Early-Problem

Folks, I am using DVDSP 4 and my chapter markers keep stopping too early from the burned DVD. When I play the Video_TS folder using Apple DVD player all is well. When I burn it and play it on a standard DVD player, all the chapter markers end jump earlier than they should - cutting off my full credit rolls on my video track.
All of my chapter markers came from Final Cut Pro where I initially made them.
    Please advise.

Make sure you test this on more than one player if it is a "for real" project of replication or duplication. All players are not created equal and there are the real weird things that may show up on only one or two players, but you need to make sure. You may want to try the other methods and see if it helps on the problem player just for fun. (Yeah, I know does not sound like much fun, but it is sort of interesting I guess )

  • Clip markers to chapter markers

    Hi all.
Is there a way to take clip "chapter" markers and turn them into timeline chapter markers?
    Thanks.

    Jeremy,
Assuming you are talking about replicating markers from clips to timeline (or vice versa), and you've made a lot of markers, here's a tip:
If you are transferring markers from clips to timeline, highlight marked clips by selecting them in the timeline. When the marked clips are highlighted, pressing (shift)(up arrow) and (shift)(down arrow) jumps to next and previous markers, respectively. This will position the playhead to mark the timeline - however, you will have to de-select the clip in order to set the timeline mark. You can then press (shift)(cmd)(A) to "deselect everything," followed by pressing (M) to mark the timeline.
It's a bit awkward, but you could do this with the following keystroke sequence:
+(Make the Timeline the active window (cmd)(3) and place the playhead to the left of the first marker to transfer.)+
    1) (cmd)(A) selects all clips in the timeline
    2) (shift)(M) jumps to the next marker in the selected clips
    3) (shift)(cmd)(A) deselects all clips in the timeline
    4) (M) marks the timeline at the position of the current clips marker
    Repeat steps 1 to 4.
Going the other direction (copying timeline marks to clips - important if you've accidentally marked up the timeline and realize that when you start ripple deleting clips that your down-stream marks will all go out of sync) is much easier and faster:
+(Make the Timeline the active window (cmd)(3) and place the playhead to the left of the first marker to transfer.)+
    1) Highlight the clips to be marked.
    2) Press (shift)(M) - this jumps to the next mark whether it is in a clip or the timeline.
    3) Press (M) to mark the timeline.
By alternately pressing (shift)(M) and (M) (steps 2 and 3), you can rapidly copy timeline markers to highlighted clips.
By default, markers placed in the timeline are NOT "chapter" markers. To set them as chapter markers, press "M" twice - once to set the marker, and a second time to open the Edit Marker dialog. In this dialog, you can add Chapter, Compression and Scoring Marker attributes to markers. You can also change existing markers (by pressing "M" once while the playhead is parked exactly on a marker using methods mentioned above).

  • IMovie to iDVD re:Chapter Markers

I have been working on a video for the past few weeks and using iMovie '09 I assembled the clips, added audio and added in chapter markers as well. I have tried to Share>iDVD and Share>Media Browser and both options do not show my chapter markers. The video I am working on is 1:42:21 so yes... fairly long but not TOO long for one DVD or anything like that.
When I drag random clips into a new project (all of 41 seconds) and add chapter markers I can Share>iDVD and the markers come up fine in iDVD but when I try to do the same with my 1hr+ movie it takes about 2:30 hours to render and then I still get no chapter markers. I feel like I am spinning my wheels and there is definitely a way to make this happen.
Is there an iDVD or iMovie master out there who can help me out? I am getting very frustrated and have probably tried about 10-15 times (rendering at 2-4 hours each!) I don't understand WHY the chapter markers will show up for the short video and I do everything the same for the long video and get nothing. PLEASE HELP!

    Hi appleNewbie34
And welcome to apple discussions. All of my own iDvd'09 projects to date have been well under 60 mins. so I don't know how much help I can offer you on this particular issue of a dvd that approaches nearly 2 hrs. You claim that your shorter projects have no chapter marker issues. Exactly how long /short were those initial projects and did they incorporate the same type of video? Or did the source video also change on these longer projects?
Here's what I was able to find and hopefully some of this will help but if not just come on back.
First, I'd recommend you delete all encoded assets. Let's start again (even though you may have already done this many times before).
Second I'd like you to quit iDvd.
Third, drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash. Looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
    Fourth, Restart your mac.
Fifth, repair permissions from apple's disc utility.
Sixth, fire up iDvd Also please make sure all of your titles fall within the TV Safe area like this:
Then follow these steps to create a disc image to the desktop:
Seventh, now I'd like you to test the disc image for proper playback with apple's dvd player application as follows:
Lastly, let's assume it plays exactly as expected (chapters and all) .... Now it's time to burn the image to Dvd-r. I recommend using Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Maxell. Please avoid using Memorex while we troubleshoot.
Feel free to post back with the results.

  • Positioning chapter Markers

I have a movie created in FotoMagico and it exports directly to IDVD.
I can add chapters but, I wish to position the chapters at a specific point
in the movie vs a specific time.

You can set chapter markers at specific points from iMovie =>iDVD (not sure about photomagico since I don't use it).

  • Chapter Markers - where did they go???

I've searched and found a lot of posts, but no solution that works for me.
I've followed this: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/compression_chapter_markersstone.html and it doesn't help.
I've exported every way possible from FCP, and when I bring the file (or export directly) into Compressor, I can see the markers.
When I encode in Compressor, and bring it into DVD Studio Pro, there are no Chapter Markers anywhere. I had even made sure to check the boxes regarding DVD Studio Pro and Chapter Markers.
    What am I missing?
Can anyone tell me if there's a way to export the Chapter Markers from FCP and import it into DVD Studio Pro?
    Any help would be appreciated...

Of course I get it working right after I posted this...
Here's the solution so others can benefit:
Exporting the QT movie with "Chapter Markers" instead of anything else. You'd think that a setting specifically for "DVD Studio Pro" would work, but it doesn't. "All Markers" won't work either. Since the word "all" doesn't mean "all," it's all very confusing.
Once in Compressor, you want to see your markers show up purple instead of green. Importing the compressed file immediately imported the chapter markers.
    Recap:
    1. In FCP, create markers, open them and designate them as Chapter Markers.
    2. Export to Compressor or QT movie, self contained not necessary, using ONLY the "Chapter Markers" setting.
    3. Encode in Compressor, and bring into DVD Studio Pro.
More details are in the other posts and links, and here's another good one:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/exporting_markers_fromfcp.html
Silal - yes, I tried selecting the clip and using "import embedded markers," but I apparently would needed a text file with that data already prepared in order to do that. I tried searching for a way to export only a chapter marker list, but I haven't found a way to do that. It would have saved me from re-encoding everything twice if I had found a way. (I would have made one manually if I didn't have almost 90 Chapters!) ...and I knew the markers needed to be in the timeline and not in the clips, but thanks for checking.
    My 2 Cents:
I don't see any reason why this can't be greatly simplified. With the numbers of other users having the same confusion as I did, Apple should address this. Imagine this: You simply create a marker in FCP, and export with an option that automatically designates them all as chapter markers, and then it just works the first time. Having an option to export a chapter marker text file for importing over previously encoded files would be nice, too.
