Help to set my network...

Hello, I've got troubles to set my network correctly...
Let me explain the configuration:
1. The router is connected to the internet, the WiFi is turned off.
2. Time Capsule is connected to the router with an ethernet cable, it's in Bridge Mode, the WiFi is set to 802.11 n only, the 5GHz is set to channel 36 and the 2.4GHz is set to channel 8.
3. Airport Express is connected to the network created from Time Capsule, it extends the network in 2.4GHz (this AirPort Express doesn't support dual bands).
4. Apple TV is connected to the network in 5GHz.
5. iPad 2 is connected to the network in 2.4GHz.
6. iMac is connected to the network in 5GHz.
7. iPhone 4S is connected to the network in 2.4GHz.
8. MacBook Pro is connected to the network in 2.4GHz.
9. The printer is connected to the network in 2.4GHz.
The troubles are:
- When the iMac is in sleep mode, after a few hours it dissapear from the network. So I cannot access it while on the go with my iPhone through 3G network, neither from my Macbook Pro on the same network.
- Sometimes the IP address of the Time Capsule becomes the same as the Apple TV.
Well, I hope everything is clear to understand...
Thanks in advance

And if you don't have luck on the SL forum then I'd recommend posting on the Airport forum. You can find that at:

  • Help to set up network: XP Home OS desktop & mac mini (Mac OS/  XP Home OS)

    Hello!
I’d be grateful for advice on setting up a home network.
I’m a total newbie to MAC OS Leopard, so please excuse my lack of knowledge!
    Background:
    - Livebox (residential internet gateway)
    - XP Home OS Desktop pc (has wired connection to Livebox)
    - MAC OS Leopard Apple Mac Mini (has wireless connection to Livebox)
    - Mac Mini also has a Windows partition with XP Home OS (has Boot Camp and Fusion installed).
I want to set up a network between the desktop pc and the Mac Mini so I can back up the two hard drives on a shared area, share files, and share the printer.
I have successfully connected the Mac Mini wirelessly to the Livebox (and the internet) via its Airport- obviously on the MAC OS side.
I would like to be able to log into either the Mac OS side or the XP Home side to work on files stored separately in each side. However, I also would like to share files between each side of the mac.
Is there a way the XP Home OS side of the Mac Mini able can access files created on its other, MAC OS side, and vice versa? (would this mean sharing via the network, without physically having to switch between the two sides of the mac itself?)
Consequently, how do I set up the network to share files etc. between the XP Home desktop pc and the Mac Mini (both stored on its XP Home OS side and its Mac OS side)?
Would this mean I set up the network as having 3 individual connections:
    1. the XP Home desktop & 2. the XP Home side of the mac & 3. the MAC OS side of the Mac?
If so, how do I set up this network?
I am sure this is much simpler than I have made it sound!!! ;-(
    Any comments gratefully received.
    Thank you all in advance.

    Will i have to reinstall
both OSX and Windows, or will Parallels run with the
already installed Windows xp through bootcamp?
No you can use the bootcamp partition and windows xp directly through parallels.
Second question, i have never installed Windows on a
Mac, so i'm not really sure what to do, so can
someone give me some good tips on this?
First get OSX installed. Then you can look at this for getting help and downloading the latest version of bootcamp.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303572
When i install the new HD, do i install OSX as i
would normally, and then install Bootcamp, or will
installation be different than the regular
    straight-forward install?
Install OSX. Bootcamp is then installed into OSX and you run it from there to do the bootcamp setup.
I'm guessing that i will have to partition the drive
to run both OS's, but how will i go about doing that?
And how much disk space should i give each OS? I
have 160GB so maybe 50GB to Windows and 110GB to
    OSX?
Bootcamp installer in OSX will partition your drive so you don't need to worry about it yet. I would suggest at least 15 GB , more if you are going to be runnin lots of windows programs.
Btw, i'll be using superduper to make a copy of my
current HD, but i dont know what to do with it when
installing the new HD and OS.
Where are you making the copy of your hard drive at? If it is an external drive you can make it bootable and then you can restore from it on the new drive. Saves a lot of time and trouble.

  • Help needed setting up network

    Hi
I have an NTL/Virgin Media cable modem with 20mb service.
I did have this connected to a WRT300N 4 port wireless router which had 1 PC running XP connected to port 1.
port 2 had a mains powerline ethernet adaptor which fed to an xbox360.
port 3 went to a DLink 16 port which had 1 Vista PC and an HP Laser printer attached.
I also have from this hub 1 airport extreme and 1 macmini which has a 1TB usb hdd as iTunes library which was wirelessly serving an Apple TV.
my Macbook Pro laptop was getting wifi from the airport extreme but backing up to a 1TB time machine via ethernet.
allthough all was working internet speeds seemed very slow (even though not all on at the same time) on speed tests i was getting around 2mb downloads. so i thought i would try and refine the setup.
by plugging the macbook pro into the cable modem i get speeds around 17-19mb, as soon as i put the wrt300n in between speeds drop back to 2mb even just putting the dlink hub in between the modem and macbook pro the speed drops right down.
can anyone help with network setup suggestions where i can let my wife use xp for internet and email whilst i can use the macmini to download itunes tv, movies and music and stream to apple tv and occasonally xbox online without lag etc???
    all help greatly appreciated

Agreed. I'd keep at it yourself. I guarantee it will be something simple.
what are the benefits of a switcher? (never used one before) any recomends?
A switch is just like a hub, except that instead of always sending packets to your entire network, it only sends them where they need to go. The benefits grow with the size and speed of your network. Switches used to be much more expensive than hubs but not any more. Normally I'd recommend almost any Linksys device, but in this case dlink seems to have a better one:
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-2205-5-port-Desktop-Switch/dp/B000FIVDIA
Again, I don't think your dlink hub is responsible for this dramatic bottleneck though.

  • Need Help setting up "Network Home Directories" or Something Similar

Alright so, I am sure the answer to my question exists but I have no idea what i am looking for as far as syntax is concerned. I have taken over as tech at a full mac School and have not touched a mac before in my life. I will try my best to give a detailed description without an entire life story.
My school has 10.4 on laptops which we run a script on to bind to a directory allowing them to access accounts created on our server. That part works fine. The problem we are having is syncing or saving any files/changes to these networked accounts. The accounts seem to have home directories created, i went through workgroup manager and set up login/out and background syncs, and nothing seems to work(Copy/save). This year it would have been nice to have the syncing feature since all student/teacher laptops would go back and forth from home and work. However next year will change a bit since we will keep all student laptops here and the teachers will still take them home. We also have desktops of course which do not move and will be accessed by the students.
I need to find a way for students to log into the server to access their account and have it automatically pop up displaying their own files/folder on any machine they access since they wont always be at the same machine. considering there will be upwards of 100 students accessing each machine, local syncing for this would not be a good idea. My best guess would be setting up network home directories so they can log into and work directly from the server and have nothing but the original OS installed on their local machine.
As far as the teachers go, Since they have one laptop the entire year and take them home the syncing method would be the best. That way they can come here, turn on their laptop, automatically sync as they log in, and save everything when they log out (or every so many minutes since some of them close it and just run home). I tried doing this with a student account but could not get it to work. My other problem with this is that the teacher laptops are 10.5 and I have no clue how to bind them to the directory since I was not the one who created the original script which is something i would like to reverse engineer to my standards since it has some nice little things in it I just wish to tweak.
A short recap of what i need:
    1) Network based accounts with network home directories, nothing locally saved
    2) Network Based accounts with Portable Home Directories, Syncing between local and server files
    3) Bind 10.5 machines to server
    4) Program to read and edit a script.
I somewhat know the terminology for PHDs and MHDs and have read a bit about those but still cannot get them to work, but I am extremely frustrated with my lack of terminology for NHDs (If that is what they would even be called) and have had a hard time finding any information on how to set them up. The only thing i found was stating that if the server goes down, so do the accounts. Which isnt a problem since we have multiple servers as well as last ditch local accounts for students to just access the computers.
As far as i know, our servers are running LDAPv3 w/ OD, maybe even not with OD, I really don't know. If anyone can give me any help with this it would be much appreciated. If you need any additional information let me know and I will try my best to get it to you. I may even be willing to wipe everything and start fresh if it is required since these havent been used much in over 2 years, only for drive mounting storage.

I received some information on another forum, however I am still stuck.
So i rebound a laptop to the server via Directory Access, created a new account using Workgroup Manager, set the Home Point in WGM for the Account to a specified folder on the server's raid and no luck.
The account authenticates with the server, but it saves everything locally and ignores the NHD. Anyone with any ideas?

  • Getting help for setting up a "good" network

    Hi all,
I've been "managing" our network and doing the IT stuff even though I'm not a "true" IT guy, just a graphic artist dabbling in the stuff. I want to get some help on moving our multiple public IP address network to a more secure single Public IP address. I don't know where I can get that help so I'm taking my chances here even though this is not specific to Apple server.
    Here's the equipment we have:
    Apple Extreme dual band
Apple Server 10.6.3 for file services, iCal, iChat, DNS, Open directory, Address book, Web.
FTP server using CrushFTP on a Mac Pro running 10.6.3
Two ADSL modem from same ISP, one 16 Mbps the other 10 Mbps
a Peplink Balance 310 for load balancing the traffic (and it's not working as advertised as far as I could configure it.
30 static IP addresses hooked to the 16Mbps modem/router
a gigabit switch ASANTE Intracore IC36240
    a 100 mbs switch ASANTE intracore 3524
I'd also like to be able to log into any machine remotely with ARD. Right now, it's a peace of cake with everyone having it's own public IP address, but how will I make this work with DHCP? I'd also like to be able to have VPN enabled.
I have no idea how to make the best of this equipment so if you have any insight or know where I can get some help to set that up, that'd be great!

There are as many 'good' networks as there are network requirements and hardware combinations.
Get a server-grade firewall, if that peplink router can't provide that function.
Figure out what's up with the peplink router.
If the peplink isn't working and if it doesn't have firewall capabilities (I've not read the specs), I'd replace it with a firewall with dual uplinks.
Once you get DHCP going, you'll have two IP subnets, and you'll have to set up subnet routing for your gear. Other than that (and with that external server-grade firewall), the remote connections are straightforward.
The server-grade firewall should have VPN end-point servers for pptp and l2tp, and probably ssl, and probably a DMZ. RADIUS support, likely. For this case, dual uplinks and support for running both.
Stay out of 192.168.0.0/16 for your private stuff.
I'd likely set up the public static IP for the router, the DMZ, and key stuff that needs to be public facing. I might well run the rest of the stuff in a private IP block.
None of which involves Mac OS X.

  • Already have wireless network, need help for set up of time capsule for wired backup only.

    Hello all -
I have a time capsule that plugs into wall and used a wireless network to back up computer.  It would always mess up internet afterwards so I would unplug the time capsule and reset internet until the next back up.  my time capsule now will not link into my computer. It just flashes amber.  Spoke with apple and was told to come on here and ask for help for setting up time capsule for a wired backup only and to mention that I have a wireless network.
Hope any of this makes sense.
    Thank You!!

Spoke with apple and was told to come on here and ask for help
Really?  The paid professionals at Apple told you to post on a forum where users.....just like you....are trying to answer questions?  We'll try to help, though.
For starters, please tell us the make and model of the modem/router that you have now that is providing your wireless network.

  • Help needed setting up print server

    i got 2 printer:
    1 usb inkjet epson 1290
    1 hp5100 network
    i have 1 server:
serving epson for our col proof using powerripx as driver and shared via os x print server
i have 2 network interface card on the server.
my problem is: the position of the server in the office has only one network interface port, i want to have my HP connected to the 2nd network interface of the server and the server connected to the only available network point there and thus have the server serving both printer.
have set up the en1 interface, enable NAT, dhcp, firewall, but the server itself does not recognised the hp which is connected to the 2nd ethernet interface. when i move it on top of the ethernet list in system preferences it does recegnised it but the the whole print server is not accessible on the network.
can someone with more experience help me set this up.
    thx

I didn't say it's impossible. I just offered an easy solution to your problem that will save you and you users some hassle in the long run (eg. when you come to troubleshoot you wn;t have to look at 2 networks and a firewall). I guess I just like easy solutions. And ,dude, 20 bucks...
If you want to go the hard(er) way you need to:
    1. set up a second network address range on the second card
    2. give the printer a fixed IP address within that range
    3. ensure firewall is not blocking packets from/to the printer
    4. config the printer on your print server & clients

  • I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. The mobile carrier signal as well as WIFI suddenly drops zero and are then restored automatically. Sometimes i cannot conenct to WIFI even standing infront of WIFI router. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
    1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
    2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
    3. Do a soft and hard reset.
    4. Reset network settings.
    5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
    6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

  • Need help w/ setting up ports to run a server for America's Army

Need help w/ setting up ports to run a server for America's Army. I read wat u need to change the ports but i dont understand wat to put. here is wat the site says
Q: How do I run my own server?
A: Quick and dirty server info:
    1. Edit RunServer.bat to change the map.
    2. Run RunServer.bat
    Or:
    server.exe LAN MAPNAME.aao (Host a LAN game)
    server.exe global MAPNAME.aao (Host a Public game)
Also: When you create a server setup and want to allow other users to join your server, you need make sure the following ports are open for outgoing and incoming traffic in your firewall: 1716 (UDP), 1717 (UDP), 20025-20045 (TCP), and 20047 (TCP). Failure to open these ports will prevent the server from accepting connections from other players or prevent other players from being able to see your server online.
There are several settings that also need to be defined in your server configuration INI file (in the Windows version, these files are located in “My Documents\America’s Army Server Settings\{settings file name}.ini”).
    [Engine.GameEngine]
    ServerActors=Andromeda.AndromedaMBS
    [Andromeda.Andromeda]
    GameServerIp=
Make sure that you set the actual IP address of the America’s Army Server under GameServerIp= (for example, “GameServerIp=000.000.000.000”). The supplied address must be your actual internet IP address, if this is left blank or you supply the IP address for your internal network (such as 192.168.0.x), your server will not be able to accept connections from the internet.
If your server.ini file contains the setting shown below, please change the QueryPort setting to 20025. This setting can also be removed, as the default setting is port 20025.
    [Andromeda.AndromedaMBS]
    QueryPort=20025
    Punkbuster user fix correction.
If [Engine.GameEngine] block has been changed to read as below:
    [Engine.GameEngine]
    ServerActors=IPDrv.AndromedaMBS
Please add the following block to your INI file:
    [IpDrv.AndromedaMBS]
    QueryPort=20025

Your images are not stored in the catalog. They are stored in folders on your computer. If you imported images that were already on your computer using the "Add" Option they are still in that same folder. If you imported images from your camera then they are in the folders that you specified when you imported. The catalog points to those images wherever they are located, and records all of the adjustments that you make to the image. When you send an image to Photoshop for further editing and save that image in Photoshop, it is normally saved back in the same folder as the original image.
Images are not "saved" in Lightroom. The basic default workflow in Lightroom is to store all of the adjustments in the catalog, leaving the original image completely unmodified. The catalog becomes the central controlling mechanism. It is a database that contains pointers to where the images are located and a record of all adjustments made to those images using Lightroom. Properly managed, you only have those original master files and secondary files for the ones that you have sent to Photoshop for further adjustment. When you want to provide a copy for someone else, you use the export dialogue for that purpose. I often export JPEG images to share with others or to post on the web. After I have usedthe JPEG for its intended purpose I delete it.

  • Trouble Setting Neural Network Parameter

    ) USING MICROSOFT_NEURAL_NETWORK (MAXIMUM_INPUT_ATTRIBUTES = 300, MAXIMUM_STATES=300 )
    WITH DRILLTHROUGH
but it is giving me this error:
Error (Data mining): The 'MAXIMUM_INPUT_ATTRIBUTES' data mining parameter is not valid for the 'Neural Net' model.
    I found this thread:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/sqlserver/en-US/9f0cdecd-2e23-48da-aeb3-6ea2cd32ae2b/help-with-setting-algorithm-paramteres that said that the problem was that I was using standard edition instead of enterprise edition.
This was indeed the case but we thankfully had an enterprise license available so I did an "Edition Upgrade" (described here:https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc707783.aspx) from
the sql server install dvd but the statement continues to give this error.  The instance of sql server installed on that machine indicates that the edition was upgraded (@@version is "Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - 12.0.2000.8 (X64)  Feb
20 2014 20:04:26  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition: Core-based Licensing (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.3 <X64> (Build 9600: ) (Hypervisor)") and when I did the upgrade it show that Analysis Services was an installed
feature so I assumed it was upgrading that as well.  I am not sure how to determine if Analysis Services was upgraded but the registry key of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS12.MYINSTANCE\MSSQLServer\CurrentVersion\CurrentVersion"
is "12.0.2000.8" (hopefully this is helpful to someone in determining if my AS version is Enterprise).
Can anyone give me some hints on how to successfully make a neural net model with these parameters?
    Thanks

Nevermind, it turned out to be a simple solution. I just needed to reboot the server after the edition upgrade (after which I discovered that I needed to remove the "WITH DRILLTHROUGH" clause because neural network models
    don't support it).

That subnet is not only odd - it should not work.
A /32-subnet is perfect for localhost and the like. It basically means you can't reach any other IP than your own.
Also the gateway from your provider's DHCP-server (first screenshot) ist very far away from your own IP. I'm too lazy to calculate, but in order to reach that gateway with that IP, the netmask would have to be between 16 and 8.
In short: I can easily tell you why it wouldn't work - what I don't get is why it worked with curl in your setup or your provider's DHCP and/or what your provider did there.
In any case: talk to your provider - they might be able to give you the correct addresses/masks and maybe shed some light (I'm really very curious).

  • Need help with Tiger & XP network setup

    Hi all!
Back in the days of OS 7.5, I managed to stick my old faithful Mac onto my family's otherwise all-PC network. All I really needed was internet access - I didn't try to fileshare.
Now that I have Tiger, though, I'm totally lost as to how to set up the network. All the help I can find seems to say "ask your network administrator." The problem is, that's me! I'm hoping someone can help me set up the router and the Tiger computer as well.
Could this be a compatibility issue between OS 10.4 and the router? The router box said "minimum requirements" for Mac are "10.3, 10.2, or 10.1."
I have a D-link DI-624 wireless router. Right now I have a desktop PC wired in with cat-5 cable, and also a laptop PC that connects wirelessly. No problem with those computers. But I cannot get my Mac to see the router, or vice versa.
I've tried setting the router to "allow DHCP server to assign same IP address to specific MAC address." (I found my Mac's Mac address just fine and double-checked it was correct.) After setting that in the router, I hooked up the Mac via cat-5 and edited Network Prefs. First I tried "Configure using DHCP with manual address," and entered the IP address I had told the router to set automatically for the Mac.
(Router address is 192.168.0.1 and I told it to assign 192.168.0.4 to the Mac.)
Safari told me I wasn't connected to the Internet, so using trial and error I changed Network Prefs to "Configure IPv4 using DHCP." No luck there either, even when I tried the "Renew DHCP Lease" button.
Any advice as to whether or not I should be telling the router to auto-assign an IP address to the Mac? I took off that setting completely, and set Network Prefs to "using DHCP," but still couldn't connect to the internet.
Would it be worth re-installing my older copy of OS 10.1 to see if that works with the router, since that is actually listed on the box?
I thank you for any suggestions you have to offer! I really don't know what to try next.

I'm using the Mac wired - it does not have wireless capability, and as it is sitting right next to the router I just want to hook it up with Ethernet cable. The wireless function is just for the PCs I have downstairs.
I am not sure what non-broadcast SSID means, but I think that has to do with the wireless portion of the network, right? I do have a SSID name set up, and WEP encryption so that only the PCs I own can connect to the wireless network, not anyone else's computers. But on the wired PC I have connected directly to the router, I do not have to input any of the security settings. I've even set the router to recognize the MAC addresses of all my computers, including the Mac.
What brand and model of router are you using successfully with Macs & PCs? The store I bought my router from is willing to give me a full refund if I can't get it to work - perhaps I would have better luck with the type of router you're using.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages

    hello all,
we bought a Sun X3-2 and our reseller installed OL6.5 and SRS 5.4.2. When user logs in, a window occurs regularly, displaying this message.
Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages
After click on Cancel, the window re-appears then minutes after. It seems that it is related to polkit:
    /usr/libexec/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
Can i stop this service? Are there any hints to tune Oracle Linux when using sunrays? users don't need to update packages because the server is managed.
    thanks in advance for help,
    gerard

i'm not fully agree with you, this problem arises because i'm using sunray. But you're right, i found the solution when searching on the net, not in oracle forums.
    The solution is to create
    .config/autostart/*.desktop
    with:
    X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false
it seems ok, even if i have other problems, for instance, firefox and thunderbird crashing regularly, even if i'm up to date with packages (uln too).
In the past, i used to use sunrays with solaris 10, it existed a document to tune gnome when using sunrays, i don't find the same thing with oracle linux.
    thanks for your reply,
    gerard
