Help w sluggish SpeedGrade

It's been 3 weeks and no resolution.
For anyone who may be inclined to respond with insight, I'd be forever grateful. Stuck until this gets solved. I've included a pic capturing the specs for my machine. Since this was the only thing Dennis the Adobe rep asked for, I assume it is a problem specific to a certain category of computing. Idk. The problem is SpeedGrade just freezes up and won't play the video. I need to use the shot match feature to match up two cameras on the same shoot.

  • Need help with PPro & Speedgrade link - render does not match results

    Hello! My problem in a nutshell is that the color correction applied using the speedgrade link once exported does not match the preview montor results in PPro by a fairly large margin.
    Process:
    Source is AVCHD 60p 28mbps
    New sequence to PPRo
    Direct link to Speedgrade
    Color correct
    Send back to PPro
    Timeline monitor in PPRo shows correct color correction results from speedgrade
    Select and export the timeline (no extra effects added)
    Tried MFX 100 Intra, and basic h.264 150mbps MP4
    Both rendered out file with incorrect gamma, mushed colors, and missing blacks correction.
    Imported both files back into PPro and compared the source montor to the original timeline monitor and they do not match up.
    Then I tried exporting directly to a TIFF sequence, and the TIFFs render out with the correct speedgrade look...
    So something in the middle of the process in the media encoder is messing up!
    Bug probably? Anyone else experiencing this? Are you checking your output results?

    Here you go, for the h.264, which is what I normally use.
    The visible differences were for example a purple pillow in the shot has its blacks and definition, once exported the purple turns to mush, no blacks and loss of definition, like a bad gain setting.

    Jeff, this is the Help reference. It arrived the moment we shipped CS6. There is tons of new writing here for the CS6 trimming features here on this page. The documentation covers all the new features. I also have some tutorials plugged in. What is your specific complaint about the page for trimming in CS6? If there is a problem with the content being incorrect, or missing info, I can fix it. I cannot fix the way that the new Help system is designed, however, I can provide feedback to my superiors.
    Also, we've been plugging in supporting community content into Help along with reference content for quite some time so that should be no surprise. We hope it is a help, rather than a hindrance. These articles and tutorials are from authors I worked with during prerelease, so tutorials are vetted, and the content is valid.

    I am kind of staggered that Adobe launched and released without Help Files for these CS6 products. Particularly in the case of SpeedGrade where I needed most Help.  New and unfamiliar applications need Help Files for Users to get up to speed! Adobe are now relying on the cool Tutorial Videos (which have great value) but are hopeless in terms of such basics as "Setting Up"  and trouble shooting.  "RTFM"...What FM? I have put SpeedGrade on the backburner because of this.  (I simply can not resolve some set up issues due to lack of available goto info.)  May not get back to it for sometime actually.
    That's not true, shooternz. Help files are available for every Adobe product. Just press F1. For Premiere Pro, the list of topics (table of contents) is here: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/topics.html Keep in mind that this is a brand new Help system, and it took extra effort to complete the content and make sure that the system functioned properly. If there are any problems with the system, please let me know. For example, search needs to be improved and that is something we know about and are working on.
    SpeedGrade Help is sparse because we just got the product 6 months ago. Given our time constraints, there simply was not enough time to develop a full Help system. On behalf of Adobe, I apologize for not being able to provide full documentation for SpeedGrade.     The issue is not how to access Help (pressing F1), it's how to access the old Help reference. The new Help system is community-oriented and does not include access to the old Help reference file.

    The "new community-oriented" Help is not new. We've been adding community content along with the reference content for some time now. If you mean to say the Help is only created by the community, that is totally incorrect. I am the writer for Premiere Pro, I include all the details of the new features, and I cull content to support the writing.
    If one noodles around in community help, one will find bits and pieces of the old Help reference but no single source.
    The previous Help content is included verbatim into current Help. It just has CS6 content added to it. It also "looks different" and is more search based. Again, search the PDF if you need to see the CS5/CS5.5 Help without CS6 content.
    That is unfortunate, because Community Help is a cobbled-together, clumsy means to find solutions. Wheras, when using the old Help reference, it was a lot easier to quickly track down answers to basic questions.
    I would really like to pinpoint what you are missing from CS5/CS5.5 Help. Why is it harder now to find what you need? The main differences I see is that there are no "next page" buttons, or hierarchy links. Is this what is bothering you? By the way, you can return to the topics page by clicking "Adobe Premere Pro Help" in the upper left of the page.

    Help systems are no longer managed by the Community Help Client and are now handled by the Adobe Help Manager. There may be edge cases where Help might not appear in previous systems.   • No image in Speedgrade

    First, Speedgrade crashed when opening a Premiere project. I contacted Adobe and she reinstalled graphic drivers. Now Speedgrade does not crash anymore, but I can not see the image of the video. It is a black window. The woman from Adobe did not know how to solve the problem, so I hope someone here can help me. Speedgrade is useless when you can not see the video.

  • Signal has gotten progressively worse

    I have been with Verizon a little over a year now and from what I can say, the signal inside of my house has gotten worse since last year. When I signed up I had steady 4G LTE signal indoors. Now it's a guessing game with every kind of signal. Every time I go to pull my phone out of my pocket I am more likely to have 1x or 3G or no data and no bars. The signal switches so much that its sometimes hard to use basic data functionality or even send a text message because the phone is switching between data services.
    Several times a day I am greeted with no data. There are some days when I have absolutely nothing for a good 10 minutes. By nothing I mean no data and no signal bars. Text messages and phone calls cannot happen in those 10 minutes. I have had people calling me and saying my phone went straight to voice mail or said it was ringing and I didn't pick up. Problem is, I never heard the phone ringing nor did I see the phone change over to the incoming call screen when I had it out on the table. The same goes for sending text messages. The sending icon (green arrow) stays on for a long time and then it's finally sent or it never gets sent because of the phone switching between data services.
    The lack of the phone ringing or text messages being sent has cost me money. I run a package store with my family and have to place weekly orders with sales reps and when they say they called and my phone never rang there is a problem. The same goes for texts since some never got sent I couldn't text the order. It's quite a cut throat business in the sense that if I don't have product then the customers will just walk out and go up or down the street and that makes my business look bad and that affects income to pay our bills like my phone bill from Verizon. My apartment is in the same building as the business so even there I have seen the signal become worse.
    My phones are 4 DROID RAZRs and they all have troubles with signal. As a result of poor signal the Internet is barely usable and the phones are questionably reliable to make calls and send texts. The battery life is also horrible, I have to charge my phone twice a day because somehow I lose 10% battery life in a half hour even though I sometimes don't use the phone during that span of time. The same goes for the other phones. My younger brother's phone gets so hot to the touch that it slows down significantly and he has to set it down for a good half hour. My parents also have the same problems with heat. Since they have become more relaxed any my brother and I have become more active in the business they use their phones for other things. My dad uses pandora and complains that it cuts out because the phone was switching between data services. My mother watches youtube videos and says they always take forever to load. They also spend lots of time calling their family members and they complain of their phones getting too hot and the batteries dying too quickly. We have wifi but it is only usable within the immediate range of the router (the back office) not where we need it.
    We have spent hours on the phone with Verizon only to become more frustrated. We have tried device swaps because of the signal and charging port issues on our phones. We have also gone through several SIM card changes. Sometimes I'll even pick up a phone off contract from best buy to test the signal strength with a newer device. We've done everything from factory data resets to running safe mode. Nothing improves reception. The only sure fire way to improve reception is to not touch the phone and set it down on a table because when it's picked up the signal drops from 4 bars to 1 bar. Even idle it will switch services and we have all had the phone hot sitting in our pockets and having 1x or no data and no bars. It would have been nice to consider getting my family new phones in October of this year but I guess Verizon decided to change their upgrade policy so now I have to wait until March 2014 but I don't think our phones will last that long.
    I never had this problem before with Verizon but now it's a part of every day life meanwhile I have to foot the bill. Why has my signal gotten worse? It used to work fine and have excellent reliability now Verizon is becoming like AT&T in my store which flat out does not work because there is no service inside. I don't know what to do in this case because we can barely use our phones. Our usage has gone down across the board especially data since the signal type switches with a mind of its own.

    Although I have iTunes on a Mac the symptoms are similar.
    Everything video played perfectly in iTunes before the last round(s) of iTunes updates. Now I have problems with jerky playback.
    I installed more RAM as the program is now so cumbersome it struggles without it. This helped the sluggishness of iTunes but not the video playback.
    They play perfectly in the Quicktime Player program itself, so the problem lies within iTunes and an answer needs to be found.

    I am asking for a favor from Cisco! Please either:
    a) release complete sources for old KiSS players (DP-600, DP-1600 etc.) so one could create own firmwares
    or
    b) release new firmware updates with telnet/ssh/ftp enabled
    These old devices are great for learning embedded Linux and personally I wouldn't want to trash perfectly good working electronics. For example I have a DP-600 so my son can watch his own programs in his own room without having to worry if the device breaks as the replacement players are very cheap and there seems to be a lot of them available.

    Two things that might help the sluggishness. Reset all your settings and reset the phone.  Use the Settings app to reset all settings. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings  Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that helps.

  • Ram and Reformating

    Hello, I am considering doing a reformat on my MBP. My first question is if this would be a good idea to help vanquish sluggishness, etc from the machine? Also will I run into any registration problems with applications (third party and mac)? My final, and most important question is whether or not I should re-install the OS with a foreign stick of ram (crucial 1gb) in the computer. Should I remove the ram before reformating or will it not make a difference.

    This depends on the software. Its not the MAC way to do on-line authentication.
    But some 3rd party software does it.
    In general, if your CD comes with a license/activation code and after you enter that code, installation continues immediately, your fine.
    If, after entering the code, you observe a slight delay - or even a message about "contacting" the software vendor, then you might have to call them.
    It also depends on how they are doing the authentication. The more modern software installers grab your machines' serial number - since that is not going to change, they will know you are NOT attempting to install on a second computer.
    AFTER you do this re-install and put back all of your 3rd party software, I suggest you use DiskUtility or NetRestoreHelper to make a image of your hard disk. Apple has built-in incredible disk image tools. So if you find your machine "sluggish" again, you can just re-image the hard disk, instead of going through the re-install process again. Its a whole heck of a lot faster! (you will find this easiest if you buy an external hard disk). And read-up on the boot-up shortcut key "OPTION".

  • Importing illustrator artwork into Flash (without all the 'mess')

    Hi,
    This isn't really a problem, more so that I am just "fussy". My friend and I are working on a game. He is producing the artwork in illustrator. I want to keep the artwork in vector format so it scales well on different devices (so exporting as a bitmap is not an option). When I import his illustrator files in Flash, it ends up making thousands of symbols in the library and it's making the interface in flash sluggish, not to mention it just looks messy. (I am aware I could group the symbols into a seperate folder in Flash but that doesn't help the sluggish problem much).
    My question is what can I do to make all the illustrator artwork import as shapes and lines instead of complete graphic symbols (which I don't want because it's messy, even if I do group them into folders in the library, it may appear tidier but I know that they are still there and created as symbols and that will bother me anyway). I will be making flash cache the objects as bitmaps for better runtime performance, but that's besides the point. I don't want flash to feel bogged down or unresponsive when I minipulate things and I like things tidy and effecient.
    I know what I am asking is possible, for example if you open Flash and draw a few shapes with the pen or any other tool, they don't appear in the library. You can then group all the shapes together as one big "graphic" or "movie clip" by converting it to what you desire. This is nice and efficient and you have just 1 object in the library instead of a "symbol" for every little shape.

    Hello Gentlemen,
    I'm also importing .ai files from Illustrator into Flash, collapsing the layers in the flash import window and selecting the entire group as one layer, then importing as a movie clip directly into the library, not the stage.
    When I look at my Library, I have all of my movie clips (though they are missing the "mc_" label I had named each with, but there was also a separate folder created for each one, with another folder inside labelled, "Layer 1" and inside that is "Layer 1". Some of them also include a file named <Mesh>.
    Is this because I selected the entire folder to import and then named each individually as they came in? Can I get rid of the folders and just keep the movie clips, or are those support files?

    I have cc subscription to Premiere with monthly app sub....my trial of Speedgrade is up and i want to license it, but it's super confusing because when I click buy it takes me to the adobe purchase page but speedgrade isn't available in the dropdown menu.... any help anyone?

    Speedgrade is tied to Premiere, but I'm not sure if there are any specifics to consider with single app plans.

  • Late 2010 iMac Running Sluggish and Loud-PLS HELP

    I have only found one or two threads relating to my specific problem, and I still need more help. Anyone's help (...Linc Davis) would be very much appreciated.
    First off, let me tell you what I am running.
    Late 2010 model iMac (3.2 GHz intel core). OSX Snow Lion 10.6.8. 4GB Ram.  1TB hard drive (less than half full)
    Here is where I have isolated the problem so far.
    -Switching between applications is often very sluggish and laggy. It takes up to 10 seconds sometimes to open an appplication.
    -Playing audio files with either itunes or preview. Quite often a song will stall for up to 5 or more seconds before playing again
                        -NOTE occasionally the audio actually cut out for five seconds and then start again later on in the song as opposed to simply stalling.
    -Typing in search bars, this action is often sluggish and laggy as well.
    -Clicking on icons and links. Example, at the start up window when I clicked on my user account it took about three seconds to bring up the username box
    -Fan is working very loudly right from startup, and not slowing down at all.
    Here are the solutions I have tried to no avail.
    -Ran disk utility, everything came up as ok
    -monitered my CPU usage with various problem causing applications. The RAM usage is fine and should be working great, I almost always have more than half freed up RAM
    -I replaced the thermal cream around the hard drive because it was over heating a bunch and I also gave it a good clean. This fixed the over heating problem but the laggin still occurs.
    -SMC reset (twice). no change.
    I don't know what to do next, somebody please help. Do I have any malware? Is my harddrive failing?
    p.s. I'm pretty noob to the intricacies of going deep into computers, but I can follow steps and figure out what's going on easy enough.

    See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

    The only way that would work out is if you ran exactly the versions that were made for old PowerBooks. Anything newer may require Intel and not run, or will strain the poor old G4 CPU.
    Your needs have to be modest, too, because the problem with older music and video software is that they are not current as far as formats and codecs for the Web. If you want to output H.264, the current standard for YouTube/Flash video, older software may not support it, and in addition, H.264 is processor-intensive and is tailor-made for today's multi-core, 2+ GHz processors. It will overwhelm a G4. A PowerBook G4 can barely play YouTube videos.
    More perspective: The PowerBooks worked great for miniDV format editing. In other words, 480i SD/standard definition video in use from the late 1990s to the late 2000s. If that is all you want to do, edit tape from an old miniDV camera to SD output, then OK.
    But if you want to edit today's HD video, whether 720p from a snapshot camera/iPhone 4 or 1080p from a DSLR, the PowerBook and the software for it will either not recognize AVCHD/H.264, or it will slow the PowerBook to a dead crawl.
    I'm in agreement with the above: Intel Macs have been out for so many years that getting a used one is a much better deal than a dead-end PowerBook. And I loved (still love) my PowerBooks.

  • Need Help: Wireless Mighty Mouse's Roller Ball Sluggish, Not Sensitive...

    Hello all.
    *I have followed Apple's Support Docu* to "hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware".
    But after I did that a few times, *my Mighty Mouse's rolling is still very sluggish, especially rolling/scrolling downwards, it is very in-sensitive, I almost have to push down the roller ball hard and scroll, then it will be effective.*
    *Any idea to fix this?* Or my mouse's "time is up"?

    Sure just needs cleaning. Get some Foam cleaner. Spray on tissue/cloth flip mouse upside down and scroll in the problematic direction for 2 mins.
    Add more foam cleaner to cloth and repeat until you have completed the points on a Compass.
    Its dirt and grease that causes that. Its a known design problem. A simple clean usually resolves for a few months and then you have to repeat again.
    ANY CHEAP FOAM CLEANER SPRAY WORKS FINE. as long as its for Computers.

    I seem to have some major issues:
    Speedgrade crashed right after starting up (I reinstalled it twice), though when I checked in the task manager it was running, but: no UI or anything....
    Then I open Premiere and tried the Direct Link, that somehow worked and the UI popped up suddendly, but its far from perfect:
    it is extremly laggy, not useable at all. Haven't had this extrem lag ever before...Absolutly not possible to work under these conditions. (Not just on the one project)
    every 2-3 minute when I try to make an adjustment the monitor turns white and it looks like it is going to crahs, though it doesn't
    some masks are totally dislocated (see the other thread i made!)
    when I sended i back to PR it had an error an didn't open.
    When I tried an older project file - which somehow worked - i coudln't preview the colour changes and just see the picture when lumetri was turned off...
    I had a generic error when I tried to export out the project, couldn't export it!
    I' am really shocked and I don't think its my fault but please let me know if I do anything wrong.
    I coudln't find files/bins under the directory you gave me!
    This is a mess, probably taking the DA VINCI route - eventhough painfull for a Premiere User - is still less complicated and more versatile than Speedgrade...
    Adobe should stop releasing new UIs and other fancy stuff - rather make your Softwares work correctly!!!!

  • Sluggish iMac performance; maintenance help needed

    I have a 21.5 inch, mid-2011 iMac with 12 GB memory and a 1 Tb drive (660 GB free). Have upgraded to Mavericks, and the iMac is running slow (although it was sluggish prior to the upgrade).
    Am looking for advice on how to get things sped up a bit. I have removed some unneeded startup items. And have run EtreCheck with results as follows. Have also repaired permissions and verifed disk. All seems to be in order.
    Can anyone offer additional hints on performance improvments before I go with a clean install?

    I don't see anything obvious that would be causing your Mac slowdowns.
    You need to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied. You may need to go the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.
    Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, also.
    Also, if you have any third party devices, like keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions.
