  • Nls_lang for psp with Traditional Chinese

    I have two Oracle environments:
    1. Oracle 817 on Windows 2000 (eng) with Traditional Chinese as default locale, and
    2. Oracle 816 on Solaris with Oracle 9iAS portal.
    in both environment, I wanted to create a simple page as follows:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Welcome</title>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=big5">
    </head>
    <body>
    <h3>Welcome to this page</h3>
    Welcome Here
    </body>
    </html>
    If I put this page under a virtual directory of Apache, the client browser would change the encoding to Traditional Chinese (Big 5) if "Auto-Select" is selected in encoding. Now, I try to put this in a psp. The page comes up with encoding change to "Western European (ISO)". I view the source from the page and it is just the same as the one under a virtual directory of Apache.
    Why does this happen?
    How can I make the client browser change to "Traditional Chinese (Big 5)" encoding?
    I tried to set the NLS_LANG before using loadpsp but that didn't make any difference. Any idea?

    Do you mean that I will have problem later if I don't change the database character set?Yes , definitely. What you are doing is storing invalid multibyte characters into a single byte database. So each double byte BIG5 characters are being treated as 2 separate WE8ISO8859P1 (Latin1) characters. You are using an unsupported but common garbage in garbage out approach, so in that sense you are using Oracle as a garbage container :) .
    Let's look at some of the issues that you are going to have :-
    All SQL Functions are based on the property on the database character set WE8ISO8859P1. So LENGTH(), SUBSTR (), INSTR (), UPPER(), NLS_UPPER etc .. will yield incorrect results . For example a column with one BIG5 character and one ASCII character will return a length of 3 characters rather than 2 characters. And if you want to locate a specific character in a mix ASCII and BIG5 string using the SUBSTR() it will be very difficult, because to Oracle the string consists of all single byte Latin1 characters, it will not skip 2 bytes for a BIG5 character. Even if you don't have mix strings, you will need to have one routine for handling ASCII only and another for BIG5 strings.
    Invalid Data conversion , if your need to talk to another db using dblink say ,all the character conversion will be based on Latin1 to the target database character set mapping, so the receiver will lose all the source BIG5 characters and will get 2 Latin1 characters for each BIG5 char instead .
    Export and Import will have identical problems, character set conversion are performed during these operations, so all BIG5 characters will be lost. This also means that you can not load BIG5 data into your current DB using IMPORT or SQLLOADER without data corruption ...

  • I want to help with the translations of Tradition Chinese for Photoshop Touch for phone application

    Hi there,
    My name is Richard and I have been using your Photoshop Touch For phone app for quite some time.
    This is a great app but there is just one little thing that maybe you can make this app better by adding other languages.
    I am not really good at English so I have translated your app into Traditional Chinese for my personal use.
    I see that this app is only in English, it is quite inconvenient for people who don't understand English.
    So I am hoping if I can help and participate with Traditional Chinese traslation for this app in your next release.
    If you do so it's an great honor for me because I really like your app!
    Should I just attach the folders for the translations or do you have a website that I can just put all the translation in?
    I hope to hear from you soon
    Thanks

    I've been having big issues with installing and reinstalling iTunes. I found the same site that gives instructions on uninstalling everything, and I did it in the right order, then I reinstalled iTunes onto the computer, and it worked.
    The only problem with all of this is that every time I connect my iTouch to the computer, this alert pops up:
    "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
    Whenever I try to download iTunes, I always get warnings that tell me to download the "64-bit" version, because the version that's being installed was meant for a 32-bit computer. I always tell the computer to continue installing iTunes anyway, because otherwise I just have to start all over again for the same results.
    After everything's installed, I get another warning that tells me that iTunes was not installed correctly, and that I need to reinstall it.
    So basically, everything works fine despite the warnings, up until I actually try to sync songs to my iPod Touch.
    Do you have any idea what the "64-bit" version is or how I could download that version instead of whatever version I've been trying to install??
    Any help at all would be great, if you can. Thanks.

  • Localization problem: Traditional Chinese is not working for Taiwan App Store

    I have published an app that has three languages:
    (1) English (as Primary)
    (2) Simplified Chinese
    (3) Traditional Chinese
    I expect I can see Simplified Chinese in China App Store and Traditional Chinese in Taiwan App Store.
    I found out it works well for Simplified Chinese case.
    However, for Traditional Chinese, it's always English in Taiwan App Store. I have tried so many devices (with language setting to Traditional Chinese). I even went to a local Internet Cafe (so all computers are with Traditional Chinese setting), it's still English for Taiwan App Store.
    From iTunes Connect, when I go to "Version Summary" where I can change the "Territory" there. I always see English for Taiwan Territory while it's always Simplified Chinese when China is selected.
    From all the experiments I've done, I really think there is something wrong in App Store or iTunes to link Traditional Chinese with Taiwan App Store.
    How to report this kind of bug to Apple & have them examine this issue?

    Unfortunately you have already done everything we can possibly instruct you to do.. at this point the only option is getting them to exchange it its under warranty its not working you have to get a exchange

    I cannot install latest itunes to my Sony notebook which is running on traditional chinese windows 7 64-bit, the error message is something like unrecognized windows package, can any one help me or has similar experience? Thanks.

    iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
    1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

  • Need help to upload Excel Chinese data into Oracle

    Hello
    I am very new at internationalization. We are writing an application that
    reads Chinese data from a Microsoft Excel file and writes it out into Oracle
    8i. This is what we have done:
    1. Use JDBC-ODBC driver to read the Excel data directly from .xls.
    2. Write data into oracle database.
    When we open Excel, we can view the Chinese characters. When we use SQL
    PLus, we see only ????. When we write another servlet to retrieve the data,
    it is displayed as ????. The few questions I have are:
    1. How can I verify that the Chinese data has been accurately inserted into
    the database?
    2. Do I need to set anything special (environment variables, config files
    etc) in BEA Weblogic 5.1 and Oracle 8i?
    The environment we have are:
    1. BEA Weblogic SP9 running on WIn NT.
    2. Oracle 8i running on Solaris.
    Thanks

    Make sure that the characters are correct in the app server after you get
    them out of Oracle and before you put them into the web page. This will help
    you determine if the problem is in the JDBC access to Oracle or the encoding
    into the web page. Make sure that you verify that the hex values of each
    character from the db test case are what you expect.

    Hi Kev
    1. "It doesn't work" means that I still see ??? in the database. WHen I
    retrieve the data, it is still displayed as ??? in a browser.
    2. Codeset to use to display should be UTF-8.
    3. Charset in database server is UTF8. I did a "select * from
    database_parameters" to get this value.
    4. I copied the Chinese characters from Excel and pasted on Notepad. Icould
    see the Chinese characters with the Chinese emulator turned on. WHen Icopy
    ??? from SQL*Plus and paste it into notepad, I see ???.
    Presume:
    1. Yes, running SQL*PLUS on BEA machine.
    2. BEA machine running on WIndows 200 professional. We downloaded aChinese

    Hi Bernard,
    Please first clarify:-
    1) "It doesn't work" means... cannot display the chinese character as
    you
    desired?
    2) Which codeset that you want it to display, Chinese traditional big5?UTF-8,
    i would think it's still in Java/JDBC codeset.
    3) What's the charset in the database server? Get help from DBA if you
    not
    sure
    how to obtain this information.
    4) Try paste the result(select via SQL*Plus) onto Win Notepad, what's
    the
    outcome?
    Presume:
    1) you're running SQL*Plus on your BEA machine?
    2) BEA machine is running on Chinese O/S or hv NJStar installed andrunning?
    Let me know if i could be of further help.

    Hi Bernard,
    I take about the same approach as you while resolving codeset
    problem.
    So,
    first
    i make sure SQL*Plus could display my desired result before proceedto

    your client

    character set, for instance America_American.US7ASCII. You should
    able
    to
    see
    the Chinese characters.
    Hope this help with your first question. I can't help for the restanyway.

  • PDF from Word 2007 ends up with scrambled Chinese characters

    I have a problem with PDF files when converted from a Word 2007 document that includes Traditional Chinese characters and I hope someone might be able to help or point me in the right direction. After converting it to PDF via "Create PDF" from the Acrobat toolbar, the Chinese characters are all wrong. It looks like Chinese but none of the characters actually exist, it's all scrambled and useless. Converting English or German text works fine, so far, it's only the Traditional Chinese text that causes problems.
    The strange thing is that prior to installing Office 2007, all worked just fine. I could convert Chinese text from Word 2003 without any problems and other than updating to Word 2007, nothing has changed. Any idea where to start trouble shooting and how to fix it? I've already tried re-installing and reparing both Word and Acrobat but no improvement.
    OS: WinXP Professional SP3 (English system)
    Adobe: Master Collection CS4 (English)
    Acrobat: Acrobat 9 Pro v9.1.3 (English)
    PDF Maker: Conversion Settings are set to default "Smallest File Size Web"
    Word: Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.6504.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000)
    Note: Using "Save As" and select "PDF or XPS" in Word 2007 works fine, the Chinese characters show up properly in the PDF file but I prefer using the PDF Maker from Acrobat to create my PDF files.

    I have found that WORD 2007, particularly with docx files, does some strange things to PDF files that you produce. It seems to break a perfectly good graphic into parts and send the parts to the PDF (not usually a problem unless you zoom in). We have tested with AA8 and AA7 with WORD 2007 and gotten these results. WORD 2003 worked like expected. It is almost as though MS decided to put some hooks in OFFICE 2007 for Acrobat. Normally with Acrobat, the graphics come out as a single graphic as stored in the application.
    Glad you got the character issue to work. I use a job.settings file that is distributed by a publisher to get an "optimized" form of product for posting. Of course, optimized is always in the eye of the beholder, but I have been happy with it.

    I am using iTunes 8.0 and imported my songs into iTunes. The titles with simplified chinese are able to show up but those with traditional characters showed up as strange characters.
    The songs were imported from another PC with Windows Vista, the titles and tags are all in proper there. I just copied the songs from that PC to my MSI Wind.
    Anyone can help out with my problem?

    tried the software you recommended but it did not help. the characters are all jumbled up in the first place.
    i did not do any changes to the tags when i copied to my MSI Wind. the tags are all right on my original PC, what could have went wrong?

  • Traditional Chinese Characters

    My Blackberry Style will not show traditional Chinese characters.  They just appear as black squares.   Can I fix this?

    Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    It all depends on the OS that you are running on your BB...there are different versions for different languages to use. Start here:
    KB05305Localization support for BlackBerry smartphones
    You will need to obtain and install the proper OS, one that contains the language(s) you desire.
    To install, the simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
    If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
    KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • Display traditional chinese

    Hi
    I am now trying to use the JavaTV RI 1.1 which is just released.
    The RI uses a XML file as it's SI source and parse the file to
    create standard object which is specified in the JavaTV API
    for application to read SI.
    One of the main difference between JavaTV RI 1.0 and 1.1
    is that the virtual machine. 1.1 uses CVM instead of JVM.
    Thus displaying traditional chinese (as well as other language)
    becomes a problem.
    If I add traditional chinese characters in the XML file,
    how do I parse them?
    And also, how do I display them correctly?
    Does the RI use unicode?

    Hi Howard,
    if i use Font.createFont() to general font object that
    can solve chinese display problem in RH 7.3. but i
    thought, it's no reasonable way to use font object.
    that is really bad for cross-platform benefit or you
    need to carry font file with your application.
    have a way to set default font use createFont()
    object?In the past, I've carried the font file around with me. Given the number of graphics files, properties files and
    other assorted garbage that apps are already carrying around, it's not too unreasonable to have to add a
    TrueType font to the list of hangers-on (unless it's the size of Arial Unicode MS - 23Mb is a big ask sometimes)!
    Given that TrueType fonts themselves are essentially platform-independent, I don't see it as too much of an issue. But that's just me and my experiences! ;-)
    To set the font as default...
    try {
        FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("myFont.ttf");
        Font defaultFont = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fis);
        setFont(defaultFont);
    } catch (FontFormatException ffe) {
        System.err.println("My TrueType font is corrupted.");
    } catch (IOException ioe) {
        System.err.println("My I/O stuffed up.");
    }There are various ways to set the font in even better ways, particularly if you're in a standalone app, but the above is at least a good basic one.
    Hope that helps,
    Martin Hughes

  • Embedding traditional chinese fonts in pdf

    Hi,
    I am trying to embed traditional chinese fonts in the mdf template.
    I created a soft font catridge using Angsana font and with symbolsets big5 and GB.
    I have also made the registry changes as mentioned in the below specified article:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/products/enterprise/knowledgecenter/c4230.pdf
    But when i test the mdf it shows junk chracters instead of chinese...
    Can any one help me out...?
    Thanks in advance
    Bhagya.

    Thanks Tom. Yeah, I understand that PDFs are not designed to work like word-processing files, etc., and the need to have the Chinese text copy over well is really just to prove that the document is searchable (i.e. if it can copy a short section of text Ok, then it means the characters are recognized by the PDF reader and I can search the document, which is my main goal.)
    The problem I mentioned with Preview, etc., is actually a new one; one that has become a big problem for me only in the last few weeks. Before, I never had this issue. I'm not sure what changed, but I was suspecting MacKeeper and their "language cluster" cleaning feature, where it "helps" you by removing unused fonts. Though, I can't quite confirm that this has played a role. I just completely reinstalled the OS thinking that this would fix the issue by installing all the original fonts again, if MacKeeper did indeed remove the fonts these PDF programs use when editing or saving PDF files. However.....unfortunately....the problem is still here.
    So, that developer I mentioned in the first thread who said this is an OS X issue may indeed be correct.
    And just to be clear, I have confirmed that the PDF's I working with do have the fonts embedded already. It is only when I alter them and then save or export from Preview, Skim, Nomad, etc., that the character information gets stripped out and I'm left with a document that one can read but cannot search. I can't even OCR it because this problem also affects my OCR software, as if it can't get access to the fonts needed to embed in the recognized PDF.
    Any other thoughts? I'd appreciate any you have.
