Help with a database view/table

Hi,
I have seperate oracle9i database on one machine (UNIX).
Myview view has poor performance in dbtest, but it has good performance in dbdev.
Both DBs are having relatively similar configuration.
When I set the autotrace on I realized the indexes are in place on both databases.
But it takes 2 times more to query dbtest than dbdev.
Here is the difference when I query both views and the autotrace is on:
SELECT id from Myview; on DBTEST:
Statistics
105 recursive calls
0 db block gets
83147 consistent gets
456 physical reads
0 redo size
2777 bytes sent via SQL*Net to client
400 bytes received via SQL*Net from client
10 SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
4 sorts (memory)
0 sorts (disk)
122 rows processed
SELECT id from Myview; on DBDEV:
Statistics
105 recursive calls
0 db block gets
42537 consistent gets
267 physical reads
0 redo size
3601 bytes sent via SQL*Net to client
414 bytes received via SQL*Net from client
12 SQL*Net roundtrips to/from client
4 sorts (memory)
0 sorts (disk)
157 rows processed
How can I identify where the problem is? Why "consistent gets" and "physical reads" parameters are about 2 times in DBTEST. I believe this is why I have poor performance in DBTEST.
Could someone give me a clue on how to idetify the issue?
Thanks

Can anyone help me with this? If you need more infor let me know.
Thanks in advance.

• Progammatic update a table with a database view  in the page

Hi All,
I am using JDev 11g. With FOD database schema, I have one database view Products which comes from two tables Products_Base and Product_Transactions. I created three EOs (ProductEO, ProductsBaseEO, ProductTransactionsEO) and three VOs (ProductVO, ProductsBaseVO, ProductTransactionsVO) based on their EOs respectively.
Here is my scenario. I have an ADF form which is based on the database view Products and is dragged and dropped from Data Controls->ProductVO. When an existing record is submitted, a backing bean method will be called to update the data against the table Products_Base (and the table Product_Transactions at the same time) programmatically. An update method updateProductPrice() is added into the Application Module and published it to UI Client. The submit button in the page is created by directly dragging and dropping Data Controls->updateProductPrice into the page. When I run it, I got the following error message,
Failed to post data to database during "Update": SQL Statement "UPDATE PRODUCTS ProductEO SET COST_PRICE=:1 WHERE PRODUCT_ID=:2".
What I don't understand here is that, in my update method updateProductPrice(), it supposes to update the table Products_Base. But from the error, it appears that it is trying to update the view Products. Can anyone give me a help on what I did wrong here? When I try to debug it, it throws an exception to this line in the method updateProductPrice(),
getDBTransaction().commit();
Here are my codes,
The method which got called in the backing bean
public String cb6_action() {
DCBindingContainer bc = (DCBindingContainer)getBindings();
FacesCtrlAttrsBinding ProductId = (FacesCtrlAttrsBinding)bc.get("ProductId");
FacesCtrlAttrsBinding CostPrice = (FacesCtrlAttrsBinding)bc.get("CostPrice");
JUCtrlActionBinding action =
(JUCtrlActionBinding)bc.findCtrlBinding("updateProductPrice");
DCDataControl dc = action.getDataControl();
ApplicationModule am = (ApplicationModule)dc.getDataProvider();
AppModule service = (AppModule)am;
service.updateProductPrice(new Long(ProductId.toString()), CostPrice.toString());
return null;
public BindingContainer getBindings() {

try {
product.setCostPrice(new Number(costPrice));
getDBTransaction().commit();
catch (JboException ex) {
getDBTransaction().rollback();
throw ex;
catch (SQLException ex1) {
getDBTransaction().rollback();

EntityDefImpl productDef = ProductsBaseEOImpl.getDefinitionObject();
Key productKey = ProductsBaseEOImpl.createPrimaryKey(new DBSequence(productId));
return (ProductsBaseEOImpl)productDef.findByPrimaryKey(getDBTransaction(),productKey);

• Query Rewrite with regular database Views

Hi all,
I'm trying to make my programmer's life easier by creating a database view for them to query the data, so they don't have to worry about joining tables. However, query rewrite doesn't work no matter how I define the MV and View. Here's an example:
I've Sales tables with columns: PDate, CustCode, Amount
and Customer table with columns: CustCode, CustDesc
I create a view SALES_V with columns: PDate, CustCode, CustDesc, Amount by joining Sales table with Customer table as follows:
create or replace view SALES_V as
select PDate, c.CustCode, c.CustDesc, Amount
from Sales s
join Customer c on (s.CustCode=c.CustCode);
For the sake of speed, I create a materialized view SALES_TOT_MV with columns: PDate, Amount with the following SQL:
create materialized view SALES_TOT_MV
enable query rewrite
as select PDate, sum(Amount) Amount from Sales
group by PDate;
When I run the following query, I expect it to be rewritten to make use of SALES_TOT_MV:
select PDate, sum(Amount) from SALES_V
group by PDate;
However, explain plan always tell me it's using SALES table, not the SALES_TOT_MV.
Can somebody tell me it's a limitation of Oracle optimizer or I'm just missing something for this?
Thanks in advance!!

I say this because you will eventually end up with programmers that know nothing about your data model and how to properly interact with it.
Additionally, what you will get is a developer that takes one of your views and see's that of the 20 columns in it, it has 4 that he needs. If all those 4 columns comes from a simple 2 table join, but the view has 8 tables, you're wasting a tonne of resources by using the view (and heaven forbid they have to join that view to another view to get 4 of the 20 columns from that other view as well).
Ideally you'd write stored routines that satisfy exactly what is required (if you are the database resource and these other programmers are java, .net, etc... based) and the front end developers would call those routines customized for an exact purpose.
Creating views is not bad, but it's by no means a proper solution to having developers not learn or understand SQL and/or the data model.

• Need help with multi database query.

Hello,
I am working on a query between multiple databases to be view on a web app.  We have multiple web apps and we are integrating some functionality between them all into one page.
The data will be for a delegate someone sets for themselves (they can have more then one also).  I need a way to pull the data view it as follows.
User, UserNumber, DelegateName, ForApp, ForApp, ForApp, ForApp, ForApp, ForApp
I have had no problem pulling the delegates themselves and which apps they are a delegate for,  but not which person they are the delegate for.
SELECT DISTINCT
dbo.Employee.Position_Num AS Delegate_Position, dbo.Employee.Name AS [Delegate Name],
(CASE WHEN Hierarchy.dbo.Employee.Position_Num = CVI_Delegate.Delegate THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS For_CVI,
(CASE WHEN Hierarchy.dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Travel_Delegate.Delegate THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS For_Travel,
(CASE WHEN Hierarchy.dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Dept_Deposits_Delegate.Delegate THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS For_DeptDeposit,
dbo.OKCorral_Delegate.For_UserRoles AS For_OkCorralUR, dbo.OKCorral_Delegate.For_FiscalApprover AS For_OkCorralFA,
(CASE WHEN Hierarchy.dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Reqs_Delegate.Delegate THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS For_Reqs
FROM dbo.Employee LEFT OUTER JOIN
Reqs.dbo.Delegate AS Reqs_Delegate ON dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Reqs_Delegate.Position LEFT OUTER JOIN
DeptDeposits.dbo.Delegate AS Dept_Deposits_Delegate ON dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Dept_Deposits_Delegate.Position LEFT OUTER JOIN
CVI.dbo.Delegate AS CVI_Delegate ON dbo.Employee.Position_Num = CVI_Delegate.Position LEFT OUTER JOIN
dbo.OKCorral_Delegate ON dbo.Employee.Position_Num = dbo.OKCorral_Delegate.Position LEFT OUTER JOIN
Travel.dbo.Delegate AS Travel_Delegate ON dbo.Employee.Position_Num = Travel_Delegate.Position
This query works fine.  The problem I run into is I have to use the same Employee table to get the EmployeeName and Number
Which will be used for both the person and the delegate.  Any ideas will be a great help.  It had been suggested I use a procedure to accomplish this, but I have no idea where to start that at.  I also have tried a nested sbu-query but since
a person can have more then one delegate for an app,  this through errors.  Thanks.

GO
The other two databases also have a delegate table similar to the ones above.  As you can see all information about an employee is linked by their position number in the Employee Table.
The Position Number is used in the Position field and Delegate field of all the Delegate tables.
I am needing to pull an employee (actually all of them) List them and then show delegates for them by which applications the delegate holds permissions too. Which is the purpose of the delegate.  So a delegate may only be a delegate for one application
or multiple which is why I am pulling from multiple databases.

• PHP Help with inherited database site

Hope someone can help with this, although I might be a bit vague. (But will be happy to post any code that might help.)
Basically I do a few sites for a company, and everything is coming together nicely moving everything to a new reseller hosting account where everything can site. I'm basically doing some redesign and new database work for them.
But there's one site I'm basically just trying to move over, that already has a database. I've copied the site onto the new hosting, copied the database across and created a new connection file.
I must admit the code is all a bit more PHPO heavy than what I'm used to working with. so have run into a problem trying to figure out what data is not displaying due to queries failing. As far as I can tell the connection is working, and the queries have not changed.
Anyway - the main page is here, where you should be able to click on the furniture images to go to the product page :
http://www.miradatravelmedia.com/lusty/public_html/index.php
But when you click through the product page query is failing :
http://www.miradatravelmedia.com/lusty/public_html/products.php?category=1
The products page is mostly PHP and looks like this :
<?php
if (!@empty($_REQUEST["img"])) {
      require_once("../includes/hft_image.php");
      $img = new hft_image($_REQUEST["img"]);
      $img->resize(200,180,"-");
      $img->output_resized("");
      exit;
$page = "products";
include("../includes/header.php");
include("../includes/db_open.php");
$sql = "SELECT `id`, `name` FROM `categories` WHERE `id` = '" . $_REQUEST["category"] . "'";
$result = mysql_query($sql) or die("Query failed : $sql at line " . __line__);
$category = mysql_fetch_assoc($result);

<a href="product.php?id=<?php echo $row["id"]?>" class="product"<?php if ($n == mysql_num_rows($result)) echo " id=\"last\""?>>
<?php

<img src="img.php?img=<?php echo $file[0]?>&width=200&height=180" alt="<?php echo $row["code"]?>" />

      <div class="clear" id="divider2"><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="<?php echo keyword()?>" /></div>
<?php

?>
If anyone could shed any light on what's going wrong still, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''categories' WHERE 'id' = '1'' at line 1
So it does look a bit odd with the quotes.
Column names in a SQL query must not be in quotes. The MySQL error message tells you that the SQL syntax error is "near" the section it refers to. In other words, the error is just before that part of the query. Normally, you need to display the whole query to spot the error, but it's obvious in this particular case, because there's a quotation mark after categories, indicating that you've put the column name in quotes. Anyway, you've solved that problem by using the version I suggested.
I still haven't managed to establish where this vat.php file is - is there any explanation for it not being visible on the original hosting server where the site is working? And could it have anything to do with the query not working?
No, it has nothing to do with the query not working, and the reason you can't see it on the live site is because there's no error. The error message on your test site tells you exactly where to look for the problem. The file vat.php is included by header.php on line 19. Either vat.php isn't on your server, or the code on line 19 of header.php is pointing to the wrong location.

What database view would you use to ascertain whether transactions are being committed?

A badly written application will have lots of uncommited records that is shown in V$TRANSACTIONS view. If you see many uncommited transactions then get the developers do the application tuning. This may also lead to many locks.

• Create Organizations in OIM by recon with GTC Database App tables

Hello,
Does anybody know if and how you can create organizations instead of users in OIM when using the GTC DataBase Application Tables connector?
Thank you,
Ionut.

Very unlikely verging on the impossible.
I would recommend writing your own connector. As you only need a little bit of JDBC and call the createOrganization in tcOrganizationOperationsIntf wrapped in a scheduled task this should not be a big issue.
Good luck

Customer Number:
Customer Name:
Customer Address:
Order Detail:
Line number | Order No | Order description | Order StatusWhy don't you do this?
1) Build a dashboard prompt for Customer Number. and save to a PV.
2) Build a report with all the columns for customer and order (in Criteria View) with a filter for the PV to capture the dashboard prompt.
3) Build a pivot table with Customer Number and Customer Name in the Rows section. Put the Customer Address in the Measures section and change the Aggregation Rule to Max.
This will serve as the summary table showing only the information of the customer selected.
2) Build Pivot Table:2 with the Order details.
3) In the Compound Layout, put Pivot table one on the top and Pivot Table:2 below it.
When a customer is selected, you will have the customer data with the order details under it for that customer only.

• Help with Creating a View

Dear Experts,
I need to create two derived fields in the View.Iam a Newbie.
I initially created a View from a Table. How should I go about
creating the Derived columns?
Column 1 In The Table Contains an ID.
Derived Column in the View Must be having the following
Condition.
1) ID in table =
14853 AMS
10511 AMS
13625 AMS
8245 AMS
12675 AMS
Derived Column1 (Code) in the view must See If the Value in the
ID as AMS if the part of the value in ID is AMS it must be
Populated AMS in the Derived field else it must be set to PVT
2) One More Column with another Derived Condition
ID in the Table
13449 AMS
12196 AMS
5055 AMS
13647 AMS
6927 AMS
19243 AMS
6057 AMS
703 AMS
29 AMS
Resultant Derived Column2 (RNO) must be a 8 Digit field.
If 29 AMS is there it must be 00000029
IF 703 AMS is there it must be 00000703
IF 19243 AMS is there it must be 00019243
Here the AMS word must be removed and Prefixed with Zero’s to
make it a 8 Digit
Request you to Please help.

The columns key_material, plan_ctry, division and MKT_TYP_ID come from RPT_APRL_PRODUCT. I need to join these tables in such a way that I bring in the other 1 or 2 columns each from the 3 tables as described above. The result should have a unique key_material and have the other column data in the view as well.
Result should be all the columns described above, something like this below...

• Need Quick Help with Unordered List in Table (text too small)

Hi,
I have a table with 2 unordered lists and the font size is smaller than what I need.
I'm using CSS and have checked all of my font sizes and I have all of what I consider my normal text set to 12.
When my client views the page on his browser, the unordered lists appears to be about a size 8. I checked on my cell phone and I see what he's talking about.
I set the <ul> and <li> to font size 12, but the problem still exists.
It's almost like the table is scaling the text down.
I worked all night trying to figure out what I've done wrong (newbie ) and I can't fix it and my client is waiting!
Here's the page: http://www.precisioncleaning.com/expert_witness_services.html
Please help!
Thanks,
Kathy

I tried adding a new CSS rule to the table font, but it didn't work.
I also edited the <tr> and <td> but still didn't work.
I think something higher up is messing the table up. I don't know anything about specificity or how to see who has the power to overwrite the table.
Do you?

• Help with iTunes database and Time Machine after Lion clean install

I did a clean install of OS X Lion and think I've given myself problems with my Snow Leopard Time Machine backup and with my iTunes Library database files.
My iMac (2007) had become very sluggish so I opted for a clean install.  Before the install of Lion my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 internal 1TB HD was at about  600GBs.  I was using Time Machine to backup to an external 1TB drive.  I had my iTunes 10.?  library on the same drive.
For the Lion install I partitioned my internal 1TB HD into two partitions - a 250GB Lion boot partition and the rest for Lion data files.
Now I  have two problems - 1.  I can't  work out how to re-connect my Time Machine backups, since they were related to a much bigger original drive, and 2.  I can't seem to find my iTunes database files.
I also don't want to restore any application files at this stage, as I'm determined to do a fresh install of only the applications I need as I go along, and hopefully  avoid the issues of sluggishness I had with Snow Leopard.
I have all my iTunes files in their pre-Lion external HD folder, but that folder does not seem to  have the iTunes Library.XML or iTunes Library files.  I didn't delete them so I'm hoping they were in my iTunes folder on my SL boot drive.  But that drive was deleted during the install, so I'll be depending on Time Machine to restore the database.
Can anyone suggest a way to deal with Time Machine for my Lion install, and a way to restore my iTunes database?  I'd like to keep as much of the Snow Leopard Time Machine data as I can, while continuing to do Time Machine backups from my Lion installation.
Anyone know where iTunes stores those database files, if not in the external drive iTunes folder? Spotlight search doesn't find the files, but is there a way to search my old Time Machine backups without having the Time Machine backups folder re-connected in Lion?
Thanks.

My iTunes folder is organised like this if it helps:
And iTunes uses them from the Prefrences like this:
