Help with a second monitor

I have a G4 800 single processor and would like to add a 2nd monitor. Both are flat screens and my video card looks like it has 2 outputs. the first(which I am currently using) has the small trapazoidal output, the other looks to be a printer output which is oval in shape. can I use the current card, do I need a new card and if so, which on is of very good quality. Thanks to all who can shed some light for me. also here is some more info that I got from the system pref:

Assuming it's the original graphics card it should be a Radeon 7500, which I believe supports an extended desk top (rather than simply mirroring the two displays).
The ports are probably VGA and ADC. Assuming your current monitor is connected to the VGA port, and the second monitor also uses a VGA connection, you need an ADC to VGA adapter such as this:

Have you tried HELP in FINDER? If you open HELP and enter 'displays' in the field in the upper right hand corner you will get a list of topics on setting up monitors. Specifically read 'Setting up multiple displays to show the same image' and 'Setting up multiple displays as an extended desktop'.

The iPhone is of no use until/unless the previous owner removes it from their account.
You will need to find the prior owner or return the iPhone.

Graphics problems with my second monitor...

Ever since I updated to Lion, I get some display problems with my second monitor (a Samsung LED XL2370).
Single windows appear darker and with bad graphics, especially when dragging from the normal monitor to the external one or openign them..
And after 'waking' my MacBook from sleep today, the background image of the normal display was missing. It was just a grey screen, but perfectly functional. And nothing changed when I checked the display settings and tried changing the background.
Any ideas??

After 10.7.3 i was optimistic apple finally fixed the bug....but it seems that they were not successfull or just didn't care....
I'm seriusly really sour about the rapidly decreasing quality apple delivers.....thinking more and more about switching back to linux again....

Can my computer display 'extended desktop' with a second monitor?

I believe I have a G4 Quicksilver 867 (2001) (bought it used and figuring out which model G4 is not that easy). I recently got a second monitor, but I only seem to have the option to have a mirrored setup (which works well). Is there anything I can do or rather what are my options to get it to show extended desktop. My video card is

I bought this computer as a second (do taxes, surf the internet, connected to my wireless router, escape my three kids wanting to use the primary). I've been very happy with it for its limited use (my primary is one of the first Imac G5's).
1st: Do you think it's worth putting a faster processor in it? My G5 has the latest OS, but I'm hesitant to go past 10.411 with the G4 867
2nd: Would you recommend a video card update to run extended desktop?
3rd: Can you run extended desktop on the original IMAC G5's (1.8 ghz, GeForce FX 5200, 64 mb ram)?

Problems with my second monitor after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Basically I have a Mac Pro 8-core with two video boards (2 x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB) connected to two monitors. After upgrading to the Lion Mountain, 90% of the time when I start my MAC the second monitor doesn't show it image, keeps in full black screen, what puzzle me is, I can see the mouse arrow on it, so its alive, but its in black, than I have to restart the computer over and over again until it finally make the second shows it contains.
Have anyone experienced the same problem?!

Sorry but I don't understand which part of my question is not clear. I've been to the Apple Store, they asked me to bring my 20kg Mac Pro and both 24" inches Eizo monitors to central London to have it checked. Well, honestly, this is impossible, is an invitation for an accident.
Is just unbeliavable that no one has experienced my problem, looks like I am the only one person with two monitors using the Lion Mountain.

What's wrong with my second monitor?

My second Apple Disply worked fine in Jaguar, but yesterday I installed Panther, and now the second monitor is gray and has hardly any resolution. The second monitor is using an ATI card XClaim 3d Pro in the PCI slot. I downloaded ATI's universal update (8/05), but it did not fix the problem. I was afraid (from past experience) that this might happen, that's why I stuck with Jaguar all this time, but I thought by now, there was a fix for this. I never touched any cables or moved the computer during the install. I'm ready to pull my hair out. I need two monitors for my work. Any suggestions? Should I switch to Tiger?

Thank you. It makes sense now, because the board came out of my old G3. Why did it work in 10.2 and not in 10.3? Any suggestions on what card I should buy for the PCI slot? The AGP slot already has a RAGE 128. I just want it to work. I don't do games or anything fancy. I'm a graphic designer and I use the second monitor to view tools, etc.

Help with a faulty monitor.

Hi all
I have a 19" CRT monitor which I use with my G5. The monitor has developed a fault and I wonder if anyone might be able to help diagnose what the problem is.
Whenever there is a large area of white on the screen the picture develops a high frequency wobble in a horizontal band accross the screen. This is accompanied by a squealing sound from the monitor itself.
Does anyone know what might be the cause of this and is it likely to be repairable?

Sorry - Don't know what the problem is - It sounds pretty terminal though.
CRT's are dirt cheap now. Why not just grab a new one? Even a second hand one?
CRT's in junk shops around here go for less than a tenner!

24 inch iMac with a second monitor (1920x1080)

I just purchased an HP w2338h and have it hooked up to my 24 inch iMac as a second display. I am using a VGA cable with the apple adapter. The problem is, it won't support the native resolution (1920x1080). Every resolution below this works fine but I obviously don't want to use a lower resolution. I have the option to choose 1920x1080 but when I do, it leaves a two inch black gap on the left side of the screen and puts strange bands down the part that does show up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Help with using external monitor on MacBook

I have a white MacBook 2.1 running 10.5.8. I use to have it run a Samsung LCD 19" which had a 1280x1024 native res, which was available in the screen prefs. That broke, so now I was going to go bigger with a 24". I've forgoten how this works, but I see the specs show this book should do a max of 1920x1200 on an external monitor. However, I don't see that listed as an option in the prefs. Will that be listed if I hook up a monitor capable of that? Also... Most 24" monitors seem to be native 1920x1080. I want to run at the native res of the monitor and not have to do any stretching or anything. Do I need to find a monitor that has a native res of 1920x1200 to match the book's max res? Or will the 1920x1080 work somehow without stretching. I have the mini DVI to DVI adapter, so I assume I should be set for any monitor sold new now.
Thanks for any help. FYI... Don't buy Samsung... 3 1/2 years on an LCD is rediculous.

Yes, the available resolutions will show when you hook up an external display.
Depending on the resolutions availabe on a given display, you may or may not be able to run it without stretching (or black bars) at native resolution (most likely you'll be able to).

Well i am a final cut pro editor and i have a power mac g5 with 1.6 ghz.Its an older one but it runs great for what i need done. Anyway i wanted to go dual monitors so i went out bought a monitor and set it in place. However my graphics card only had 1 DVI PORT (Which had my main monitor on) and the other one was a ADC port. I bought a ADC to DVI-D and then realized it was the wrong one. Those Adaptors are very hard to fine, so i made up my mind a decided to forget that and get another graphics card. However i am not very good with that stuff and i really dont know which one to buy. Some others gave me a list but they were not the same as mine (slots didnt match)

If you could find a real ADC to DVI-I adapter, it would work, but the Dr. Botts ADC to DVI adapter

will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter. It does have a dual-link DVI-I connector, but the pins for analog video (and dual link) do not connect to anything. They use this connector because some non-Apple digital displays come with DVI-I and/or dual-link DVI plugs, when they only need DVI-D signals. The Dr; Botts adapter and (all others that I have seen) are only ADC to DVI-D. Even if they connect the dual-link pins from the ADC to the DVI connector, the result will be single-link DVI-D, since no ADC cards provide dual-link signals. There is no reason (other than cost) why an adapter couldn't connect the analog video signals from ADC to a DVI-I connector, but I don't know of any that do.

Note they say "flat panel".
You need an ADC to VGA adapter. They are listed from $40 to $150. Still less than a compatible replacement graphics card, although you can get a card faster than you current one, if you pay enough.

i just came across my ipod second generation... the real second generation, circa 2002 (approximately). i can't find the cable. kicking myself! is there any way to get a cable, and subsequently, move my old school tunes onto my imac or ibook?

Help with using external monitor

I have an imac which is running keynote and I would like the office receptionist to use it to display a slide show on an external monitor.
I have been able to set this up and can get the keynote onto the external monitor just fine, however when you press play on the presentation it automatically opens the presenters view on the imac display and nothing else can be done on the mac.
What do I have to do to allow the slide show to run on the external monitor and at the same time be able to use the mac for any other purpose, i.e mail, word, excel, notes etc etc? So basically get rid of the presenters view and just let the slide show run by itself.
Any help would be appreciated, in additon if anyone knows how to do the above on powerpoint for mac please let me know as the mac has both installe.

When Keynote is in Play, the graphics card is dedicated to displaying Keynote, it cant be used for other purposes.
To save on the expense of using an expensive computer to just show a presentation, we export in Keynote as JPEG files, copy them to a USB memory stick and plug in to the USB of a Smart TV which shows the images as a slide show.

Color shift with second monitor using develop module

LR 4.1 RC2, OSX 10.6.8 - when I'm trying to use the develop module with my second monitor, the image initially looks accurate. After a second or two and before any edits have been applied, the images desaturate and look very flat. Images viewed with the second monitor in Library module look great. I can't figure out what is happening and am wondering if any others are experiencing this. Thanks.

Removed second monitor - Application still thinks its there

I had a second monitor connected to my MBP. I had iMovie opened last startup. I'm not with the second monitor now but cant get iMovie back on the main display. I have restarted, shut down, etc.

What happens if, with iMovie open but its window(s) not showing, you choose the Zoom command from iMovie's Window menu?
