Help with blocking pop ups

i recently started using safari, and now when i click on something that usually pops up, it just loads/re directs me to a new page for it, i clicked (turn off) block pop ups to see if that was the problem, but it wasnt, any ideas how to fix it?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

• I can block pop-ups, but not allow new windows in Firefox 4

After upgrading to Firefox 4, I can block pop-ups (except
those I wish to allow) just fine, but I can't find a way to
allow website links to open new windows -- I always get
a message that Firefox prevented the new window, with
an "Allow" button. I want to allow them all. How can I
do this? Thanks.

Scan for Malware
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
* TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
* Microsoft Security Essentials (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Reset Firefox
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• I have selected to BLOCK POP UPS yet I still receive pop ups. This slows my browsing and is unwanted!

I would like to stop pop ups when browsing. I have selected the option to block yet I still receive pop ups. This slows my browser and is unwanted. I have gone through preferences and chosen to block pop ups. This does not work. please explain, and help.
Thank you,
Julie Stuart

If you are receiving popups, it is possible that this is being caused by an extension that you have installed on Firefox.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
:
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

• Why won't Firefox block pop-ups even though configured to do so?

I have the browser set up to block pop-ups. It blocks the pop-ups from my bank even though I have repeatedly made that page "allowed" but allows subscription pop-ups on dozens of pages. Nearly all of these sub pop-ups force me to close them to see the page it hides. How can I actually block those annoying actions?

• Windows 7, Firefox browser not blocking pop ups

I bought a new computer with Windows 7. I downloaded Firefox, which I had on my previous computer with no problems. Even though I have it set to block pop ups, I still get pop ups several times a day.

See this: <br />

• How to block pop-ups in Safari 8

How do I block pop-ups in Safari 8.
Since I purchased a new Mac with system 10,2, Safari is driving me nuts with constant pop-ups
The is no «block pop-up windows» in this version.

Safari 8's control for this is in the Security tab of its preferences, and is on by default.
If needed, click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

• Exceptions for blocking pop-ups

Hi
Firefox has the ability to include exceptions for blocking pop=ups but Safari does not have this ability. This is useful for a few sites that I visit regularly.
Is there a plug-in that provides this ability?
thanks Colin

Same here. This "all-or-none" approach is really inadequate, even if you can toggle it on and off with command-K. It's annoying to have to keep changing it all the time.

• I set my Firefox settings to block pop-ups. It's now working. What do I need to do?

I am still being annoyed with constant pop-ups. I like using Firefox, but I'm switching to another browser if I can't get this resolved.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.
Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode
When in Safe Mode...
* The status of plug-ins is not affected.
* Custom preferences are not affected.
* All extensions are disabled.
* The default theme is used, without a persona.
* userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored.
* The default toolbar layout is used.
* The JIT Javascript compiler is disabled.
* Hardware acceleration is disabled.
You can open the Firefox 15.0+ SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.

• Can't seem to block pop ups on my Imac

Hello i have an Imac osx 10.6.8. My current browsers are Safari, Chrome and Firefox. For some reason no matter which browser i use i always get pop ups. I have checked on all of them and have made certain that there block pop ups feature was enabled. But still i get pop ups. The only thing i can think of is that all of this started when i started watching Hulu on my computer. Any help would be awesome. Thanks again.

The current trend is for Downlite to be causing them, although there are other possibilities.
For that : see
You installed the "DownLite" trojan
or

• Will blocking pop-ups and refusing cookies effect page branching?

When I had friends test my form -- in which a do quite a bit of page branching -- the first page loaded and allowed them to click a choice but would not allow them to click the "Next" button to continue.  In fact, the "next" button was faded out so was not, in essence, a choice at all.
It works fine when I test in on my computer. So, I'm wondering if perhaps blocking pop-ups or refusing cookies (on their end) could be the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give...
J

Do they also have Javacript turned off?
This would be a reason why the Next button would be disabled.
There should also be a message at the top of the form telling the user to turn on Javascript which would look like this
