Help with conditions AND installer Packages

Hello everyone,
I need help still learning.
My shell is SHELL=/bin/sh based on env command
I am trying to write a package with Iceberg to push Office 2004 to 250 Macs. I need a preflight script with a condition that will stop my script if /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 exists OR if OFFICE 2004 exists. Don't know if searching on the folder name is the best or if there is better way
If it doesn't exist I want it to continue with with placing Office 2004 in the /Applications folder.
I don't know how to do conditions (If, then, end)
PREFLIGHT SCRIPT
IF /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 folder exist = STOP
IF /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004 folder doesn't exist continue with laying down files/folder in the package.
LAYDOWN FILES
LAY DOWN FILES IN ICEBERG FILE SECTION OF THE PACKAGE
POSTFLIGHT SCRIPT
#!/bin/sh
#Change to root directory
cd /
# Move Microsoft Office X folder to Messages Received folder
mv /Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ X /Messages\ Received
#Open Office 2004 Installer
open /Applications/Utilities/Installers/Office2004Installer
G4 1.42   Mac OS X (10.3.5)

Hi Dmcrory,
The answer to your question about ORing tests in a shell conditional statement could be something along the lines of:
if [ -d /Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ 2004 -o -d "/Applications/OFFICE 2004" ]
then
   exit 1
fi
I've included two different styles of quoting so you can choose which you prefer.
That said, you appear to be asking us how to write shell scripts, starting from scratch. Time that you spend studying benefits you forever and sometimes benefits us, while time we spend doing your work is at best a trivial review for us. The above "-o" option, and many others, are documented at the compound comparison section of the Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide. Don't let the name fool you; the Guide actually assumes very little. The "Advanced" adjective refers to the completeness of work. In fact there are many good references.
I used to have a long post of links to what I think are some of the better beginning UNIX tutorials and books. However, as others posted great links and I stole them, my post became too long so I put it in a web page. Bill Scott did the same thing so here is Bill's and here is mine.
This is being written after reading your exchange with Roger. When you execute code that doesn't work, we certainly have no chance of knowing why without seeing the code. It generally helps a lot to see the output as well.

  • FAQ: Where can I get help with downloading and installation?

See this page for options for contacting Adobe regarding problems with downloading and installation:
"Contact support - download and installation"
You can ask questions and search for answers on the Adobe user-to-user forum dedicated to downloading, installation, and setup.
You can also check the Customer Service FAQ lists for issues with downloading and installation.
You can order Premiere Pro CS6 here ... or try it free for 30 days.

    Hello,
This kind of question is best asked in the Windows Forums, however I've had some succession with a similar issue myself.
Non-Genuine Windows means that it can't authenticate your copy of Windows.
It's not a problem, all your need is a genuine product key code. Provided you don't have different version of Windows 7 installed to the one you are buying (for example windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 business) Then you can use the new key code.
Click on the Start Button and type: CMD (into the 'Search programs and files' field in the Start Menu)
The Start Menu will show 'CMD.exe',
Right-click the CMD.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
In the CMD window, type: slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
To activate windows after changing the key, type: slmgr.vbs -ato
It should now accept the new key code and you will need to be connected to the Internet to authenticate.
If by chance the windows 7 types are different (One is Home premium say and the other is Business) then you will need to uninstall that copy of Windows 7 and install the new one. If your using BootCamp then you will need to go into BootCamp under system preferences and remove that copy of Windows (delete it)
Then create a new setup with your new Windows 7 disk.
For me I had the same type of windows, changing the product code worked. Saved me the bother of having to reinstall Windows again and it was all genuine.
    Best of luck

  • Please help with download and installation

    Hi,
I am trying to download jdk1.4etc to Solaris Sparc. I tried downloading several times, all the times I get corrupt files. How and from where do I install JDK2 on Solaris. i am also in search of a good text editor like textpad for Solaris. Can anyone give me suggestions? Also, I need it immediately for my term assignments.
    Please Help!

I am also having this problem. I have tried both the
tar.Z and sh files. I have run the .sh as myself and
as root. Here's what I see with the .sh installer:
Do you agree to the above license terms? [yes or no]

The download file appears to be corrupted. Please
refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Installation
Instructions on the download page for more information.
Please do not attempt to install this archive file.
I am anxious to find a solution.I am having the same problem with both a download, j2sdk-1.4.0-linux-i386-rpm.bin, and Sun ONE cdrom, /disc3/j2se/1.4/j2sdk-1_4_0-linux-i386.bin, versions. I sincerely doubt that both are corrupted, at least I hope not. I'm attempting to set up the sdk under RedHat 7.2 in /usr/java. Have tried as both a user and as root - no joy! I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help.

  • When I try to install iTunes 10.5, it says, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have Windows XP and I need help.

5, it says, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have Windows XP and I need help.

After reading all these posts, one by one did not resolve my problem until I got the very end.  Regardless of what step would resolve your problem, these are the steps I would recomment to everyone for a what seems to be a safe and fool-proof upgrade to iTunes 10.5.
    1. Stand alone upgrade to the latest Quicktime version
    2. Go to control panel and "change" then select repair to the following applications in the order specified by the post on Oct 27. (Notice I skipped Quicktime because it had been upgrade manually, and Bonjour did not have a "repair" option)
iTunes; Apple Software Update: Mobile Device Support; Apple Applications Support
Some of these applications may not appear if they do not apply to your configuration (no iPhone, or no iPad, or other apple devices).
Once all updated, I did not need to restart nor launch any applications, I simply went straight into the 10.5 upgrade, and where it normally got stuck, this time the installation continued for a while longer until it completed successfully.
Great work everyone who contributed!  Thank you very much!

I have also tried extracting the individual components to the temp file and attempting to install them individually despite being unable to remove the previous install of Apple Software Updater.  The outcome, both Apple Software Updater and itunes encountered the same error message during the install process.

  • ITunes won't upgrade to10.5. Error message "There is a problem with the Windows installer package. Contact the package vendor". I need help.

    iTunes won't upgrade to10.5. I'm on 10.1.17.
When installing 10.5 it terminates with an error message "There is a problem with the Windows  installer package. Contact the package vendor".
It does not provide an error code or details/description to further troubleshoot. As a result I can't upgrade my Apple devices to leverage the cloud.
Any smarts out there who could help?
Using PC Win-7 w/IE 7 (should that matter)
    Thanks much

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience.  I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP.  I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app.  I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found.  I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs.  Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it.  After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer.  I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.

  • Trying to download iOS 5 it says there is a problem with my Windows Installer Package?Help?

I'm trying to download the iOS 5 and I get almost all the way done but then it stops when it's on Status and goes to an error and says "There is a problem with this windows Installer Package.  A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have a windows vista computer.. but it should be able to run on it...
Any ideas on how to fix this??
    Thanks!!

'NOsaint09' - I was getting your same error message trying to install the iTunes 10.5 update on my Windows XP machine (in order to install iOS 5 on my iPhone 4). Tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes several times to no avail - same message, no install.
Well, after reading the above post by 'wiss...' i went to start Apple Software Update and was getting another (very cryptic) error message just trying to start ASU. I thought perhaps the problem with this program was causing iTunes 10.5 not to install - so I went to uninstall Apple Software Update using Windows Add/Remove Programs, and got another error message (not allowing the uninstall)!
Knowing there are programs out there just for the purpose of doing a forced & thorough uninstall, I search Cnet Downloads for the best free Uninstaller and downloaded Revo Uninstaller. Used Revo to uninstall Apple Software Update (and all associated files/data it found in registry).
Then to be sure, ran Disk Cleanup in windows to empty the Temp files/folders and Restarted the computer.
Finally, I ran the iTunes Setup.exe for 10.5 and it installed successfully!!  Woohoo! I hope my experience may help others with similar troubles!
And thanks to Wiss for directing me to the problematic ASU program!

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
START > CONTROL PANEL/ > Add n Remove Programs, highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,
    Peter

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems.  It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn.  Looking still for this fix.

I'm unable to install the newest version of itunes on my pc, the promt says that there is a problem with the windows installer package, but I have downloaded the exe more than once. Is anyone able to help?

Yes, I had found a similar solution also.  I'm running XP Pro, SP3.  I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair.  Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess.  Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes.  Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing.  I haven't begun to work on that.
