Help with database connection

ok I am trying to use dreamweaver's database function to
connect to a mysql database, i fill in the info and it gives me the
following error:
"an unidentified error has occurred"
I know all the info i am putting in is correct as I am copy
and pasting it directly out of my connection properties in navicat
mysql editor which can connect to the database fine
i tried connecting to multiple databases on multiple servers
and every single one returned the exact same error
I am using Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac OSx
thx for any help
-Ryan

Have you gone under the Application folder and clicked on the
plus (+) sign and created the connection to the database.
Also, do you have username and password on the database? If
so, you'll have to provide this information
I don't use MAC or PHP a great deal. So my help can be rather
limited. I'm just thinking about connection strings
What web server are you using? MAke sure it's running and set
up correctly. Test the server first and see if it's working. If so
see what connections string Dreamweaver is providing. I know Apache
had a few bugs with various version just Windows has had in the
past, not sure how these work with OSX

  • Help with Database Connected LiveCycle ES4 form

    Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this question, I hope you can help!
    I have a LiveCycle ES 4 form connected to an excel database.  The form has buttons to "Add", "Update" or "Find" a record.  These buttons all work correctly EXCEPT when the server drive that has the Excel file is not available.  In this case I wanted to add code the "Add" button informing the user that there is an error.  I tried adding a try/catch block before the SQL statement that inserts a record into excel but even when I purposely make the Excel file unavailable the try/catch block doesn't seem to work.  The javascript console will show an error but try/catch doesn't seem to trigger.  If I had a javascript syntax error within the try/catch block, it works as expected, but with the database connected form, it appears the try/catch block does not trigger based on errors generated as a result of the database file having an issue.  In this case, the console just shows a "GeneralError: Operation failed." message.  Why doesn't the try/catch block trigger since there is an error as stated on the console?  Is there a work around?  Thanks again for your help!!

  • Please help with database connection issue

    Hi,
    I've created a few connections and pages with a few recodsets on my local computer and am connecting fine with the database. I've uploaded the database via phpmyadmin onto a remote server and uploaded all my pages to the website and have changed the database info, user name and password in the connections folder but when I try to load the file I get a message "no database selected". I've tried various things but no luck. I'm selecting the database name but something is missing. Any help would be appreciated.

    A bit more info: Here is the connection script as its defined in Dreamweaver: <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_karen_product = "localhost";
    $database_karen_product = "karen";
    $username_karen_product = "root";
    $password_karen_product = "root";
    $karen_product = mysql_pconnect($hostname_karen_product, $username_karen_product, $password_karen_product) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
    Where is says mysql_pconnect, I changed the $hostname_karen_product etc to 'localhost', 'username', 'the password for the database')
    Do i need to do something different at $database_karen_product?
    I'm basically new at this and confused as to how to alter this connection script.
    Thanks

  • Need help with database connection and trasaction!

    Hi, I'm trying to load data from a huge report to DB2. My old way of doing this is: 1. using DriverManger.getConnection to get a connection.
    2. Then set autoCommit to false.
    3. Keep the connection open.....
    4. con.commit once I reach a section, let's say around 5000 records per section.
    5. Close the connection once I finish loading, (Finally block)
    I'm still new in the java world and kind of concern of the way of what I'm doing. Then I did some research. Perhaps using javax.sql.DataSource is a better approach. But I couldn't use it in WSAD. Do I need do some configuration? I heard it's in j2ee 1.4 . Is that the reason I couldn't use it?
    And.......I tried to use DAO pattern to talk with DB. By that way, I have to open and close connection everytime I invoke the dao method. Then how can I control the transaction? Because I don't want to insert each record data in to the table right away. I want to do the commit once I get all records for one section. No idea how can I achieve this.
    Any suggestion will be really appreciated!!!

  • Help with ASP Connections - New User

    I just set up a hosting account with 1 and 1 for a simple
    website to catalog a series of yo-yo contest that we coordinate. I
    have a simple MS Access database for organizing contest information
    that we are trying to get online.
    I am new to the application side of this and know very little
    about connection strings, DSN, etc. I am experiencing problems with
    connecting to the MS Access database that I have uploaded to the
    1and 1 servers. If I hardcode the Javascript into the page, I can
    connect and pull information but I definitely want to take
    advantage of the design interface that Dreamweaver MX 2004 offers.
    This is the code from the page that I can get working based
    on the FAQ Sheet that 1and 1 offers for database connections:
    <html>
    <title>Database query using ASP</title>
    <body bgcolor="FFFFFF">
    <h2>Query table <b>Products</b> with
    ASP</h2>
    <%
    Set dbaseConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    dbaseConn.Open "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver
    (*.mdb)};DBQ=" & Server.Mappath("\db\League.mdb") & ";"
    SQLQuery = "SELECT * FROM Contest_Information"
    Set RS = dbaseConn.Execute(SQLQuery)
    %>
    <%
    Do While Not RS.EOF
    %>
    <%=RS("cStartDate")%>, <%=RS("cName")%>,
    <%=RS("cWebsite")%> List
    <p>
    <%
    RS.MoveNext
    Loop
    RS.Close
    Set RS = Nothing
    dbaseConn.Close
    Set dbaseConn = Nothing
    %>
    </body>
    </html>
    If I put in a "Custom Connection String" using the previous
    code:
    "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" &
    Server.Mappath("\db\League.mdb") & ";"
    Dreamweaver can connect to the database when the connection
    is 'tested' but cannot pull any tables and therefore cannot create
    bindings.
    Guidance...help...I'm stuck...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Lucky.da.boss,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    is asking can I or is there anyway i can transfer my music off that iPod to my touch?
    See this article for tips on how to copy music from your 5th generation iPod to your iTunes library. Once you have successfully done that, you can sync them over to your iPod Touch. There is no way to do it directly.
    http://macs.about.com/od/backupsarchives/ss/ipodcopy.htm
    Also, I have two applications that aren't downloading I want to know how to delete them.
    Tap your finger on one of them and hold it there until you see all your Apps start to wiggle. You will also see a small x in the upper right hand corner of the Apps you can delete. Go ahead and tap this to delete the App. When you are finished, hit the Home button to make the Apps stop wiggling. It might also help to have a look at your iPod's *User Guide.

    Can you have constant internet service or do they run solely off wi-fi?
    Only Wi-fi.

  • HELP IN DATABASE CONNECTIVITY IN A SERVLET`

    HI there,
    I have some issues in an application. I have a servlet which is called Servlet1.class. I have deployed this in my tomcat webapps folder. There is a stand alone application called MailAgent.class which pools into a mail box and retrieves the messages and converts them as HTTP messages. Then the MailAgent.class sends the HTTP message as multipart post (email message) to the servlet. In the servlet I am trying to establish a database connection with the JDBC driver from third party vendor. I am unable to get the driver class when I establish the connection with the database. Is there any issues with servlet and database access. I am able to connect if I run as a stand alone application.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

    There shouldn't be any .class file in your webapps folder. I hope you mean that you created a subdirectory under webapps, with a WEB-INF under that and /classes and /lib under that. Your servlet .class file and its package directory structure belong under webapps/yourApp/WEB-INF/classes, right?
    You can create database connections in a servlet, although I agree with the previous poster that you'd be better off putting database code into objects that you could test off-line, without the servlet.
    You've got to have the JDBC driver JARs in the webapps/yourApp/WEB-INF/lib directory, for starters.
    If you get really adventurous you can create a pooled JNDI data source, but maybe that's another day's work. Get the basic connection working first.

  • Help with database... plzzz

    Hi, I am trying to create a simple form in Java... What I am trying to do is enter a particular User ID and it should display all the information, regarding that userId... I am a starter.. Just trying to do some database stuffs.. I was wondering if anyone can help me with this without the help of JDBC.. thank you... So far I have created a form, textfield and buttons.. thats it..

    Thank for the help with the last problem, but now i am facing another one. The database and the forms works fine independently. But i cannot connect them, what i mean is if i click "insert" button to insert data into the database, the database window does not show up. i used the same code for the forms and it worked fine.. here is the code that i was using..
    private void xInsertRecordBtnMouseClicked(java.awt.event.MouseEvent evt) {
            try
                this.setVisible(false);
                teamproject.EmployeeForm.class.newInstance().setVisible(true);
            } catch (InstantiationException ex)
                Logger.getLogger(Main_Higher_Access.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            } catch (IllegalAccessException ex)
                Logger.getLogger(Main_Higher_Access.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            }I wonder if there is any other way to import the data from the database into the form. or.. to show the database..
    i am getting the following errors....

  • Date/Time erros when working with Database Connectivity toolkit

    Hi!,
    We are observing errors with date/time when working with LV. The error occurs when the system datetime format is set such that day precedes month (e.g. dd/mm/yyyy). Our VI uses LV 7.1, Database Connectivity 1.0 and SQL Server 2000 on a Win2000 machine.
    Problem details
    Our database in SQL server has a table having columns with data type "datetime"
    If the system date format (as set in control panel) is "mm/dd/yyyy", the 'insert into database' vi works fine. This function inserts the date and time (among other things) into the above mentioned table.
    However, when the system datetime is set to dd/mm/yyyy we start receiving error that date and time is beyond range for dates in which the date had the day field greater than 12 (e.g. 23/10/2005). With the same settings, if the date is such that day field is equal or less than 12 (e.g. 03/10/2005), we do not receive an error but the date is interpreted as 10 March 2005 rather than 03 September 2005.
    Clearly LV (or is it SQL) is mistaking the day field as month.
    We have taken care that when sending and receiving date, the format date and time string is set as per system settings.
    Thus, if system setting is "dd/mm/yyyy" our format string is "%d/%m/%Y"
    And if the setting is "mm/dd/yyyy" our format string is"%m/%d/%Y"
    Any help on problem cause and cure is welcome.
    Thanks,
    Gurdas

    Hi Xu,
    You answer led me to some very interesting fact finding on how SQL server handles date and time. I have attached a zip file which contains webpages that throw more light on this issue.
    The attached pages tell me that SQL has an inbuilt date/time reference format. The default in mm/dd/yyyy. Which explains why my VI worked when I used that format to write to SQL.
    However there is a catch:
    SQL expects the date/time to be in its inbuilt reference format when you WRITE data to SQL. If the date/time is in a different format, better tell SQL about it by using say the SET command you mentioned.
    BUT what about the date/time format when you are reading data from SQL?
    Our finding is that SQL sends date/time string in the system date format when you READ from SQL !!! That is very surprising behaviour (why differentiate between write and read?).
    Is our finding correct?
    So, we adopted the following simple strategy (yet to be fully tested):
    1) Whenever we write date/time to SQL, the string is formatted as mm/dd/yyyy. Presently, the user's SQL server is in the default state. Caveat is that if the user changes SQL date/time from default (which is mm/dd/yyyy) to anything else, our software will give errors. But then he changed it  ;-)
    2) When we read date/time from SQL we format the string as per system date/time format.
    I know this is not very robust coding. But assuming the user keeps his SQL in the current setting, should we expect smooth working?
    In other words, are there any errors and/or flaws in our strategy?
    Thanks,
    Gurdas

  • Processes 'stuck' after problems with database connection

    First in the production environment, during database failover (MSSQL Server cluster), and later in testing, we encountered processes that are 'stuck' on some random operation. Admin console doesn't show stalled operation or branches, process is running, all operations are completed except last which was in several cases still in status Running, and in one case it was Completed but next operation was not started.
    When operation is still running one would expect to select it and click 'Retry' in hope that process will continue but it seems there exist a bug in "Process Instance Detail" part of the admin console - it gives an error: "This operation cannot be completed without the selection of one or more operations from the list below!"
    We can try using 'Terminate' for this operation and probably several that follow (because they would probably stall without data from first terminated operation) in hope that process which runs in big user loop can arrive at a step where it can recover from all this using existing data but it's messy and doesn't always work.
    When the operation is in status Completed admin cannot do anything at all. This completed operation cannot be retried or terminated because selection box is grayed out. Process and data in it is irrecoverably lost and must be initiated from start.
    I must say we had large problems before if database connection is lost even for few seconds (intentional fail over from one db node to another) - but now, when we filled check-connection-sql in datasource configuration Livecycle is behaving a lot better but still with above problems.
    How can it happen that LC stops executing process workflow and stops on some operation just because it wasn't able to get valid db connection for several seconds? Is it some problem with transactions or what? What can I do? Where to look?
    We are still on LC ES2 SP3. JBoss on Windows Server 2003 and MSSQL 2005.
    Any help is appreciated.

    I would suggest you to contact the Adobe support so they can look further in system as well as LC database.

  • How can I use SQL TOOLKIT concurrently with Database Connectivity ?

    I have installed LabVIEW 6.1 with the Database Connectivity Toolkit and the SQL Compatibility Toolkit (e.g. _SQL folder). I am trying to make the transition from the SQL Toolkit VIs to the Database Connectivity toolkits, but for compatability with existing systems I would like to be able to run the two sets of VIs concurrently (but not in the same app).
    When I read into 6.1 a connection VI that I wrote with LabVIEW 6.0 and the SQL toolkit the connection reference type gets changed from a number to type connection (see attachments) . Does compatbility mean that my SQL toolkit VIs are converted to a form compatible with the new ADO ?
    Can I use the SQL Toolkit VIs or the Database connectivit
    y VIs in the same installation of 6.1 ?
    Can I have the SQL Toolkit VIs appear on the functions pallette and function as they did when only the SQL toolkit was installed ?

    In response to your #2 below:
    Actually it is possible to have the old SQL Toolkit and new Database
    connectivity in the same installation of LabVIEW. I have only tried it on
    6i, but don't see why it wouldn't work on 6.1. The trick is not to install
    the SQL toolkit compatabitily VI's. The old SQL toolkit uses the Intersolve
    dll through ODBC while the new Database connectivity uses ADO so it is
    possible to use both methods not only in the same LabVIEW install, but it
    the same running application. It has been a while since I originally did
    this, so I am posting only to mention that it is possible and not exactly
    how to do it. If anyone is interested in more details just respond.

  • Problem with Database Connections in the designer - Catalog not updated

    This is Crystal Reports 2008 (12.2.0290). We have a number of reports that are viewed using the .Net runtime with the connection details set at runtime using ODBC to talk to SQL Server on different systems. This all works fine and is not the problem. The problem is when editing reports in the designer take the following example:
    Developer 1 creates report on their machine that references tables. DSN Name is DEV_DSN, pointing at their local database on their machine called DEV_DB1. Developer 2 needs to edit the report on their machine with a DSN of the same name (DEV_DSN) but this points to a different database on developer 2's machine called DEV_DB2.
    Developer 2 goes to the Set Datasource Location option in the Database menu to get it to point at their local DB only it doesn't work. They click on the first table included  (or the connection name) in the report and click update - they are prompted for the logon details for their local DSN/DB and supply them but they see an error indicating that there is an "Invalid object name" because the table is still being prefixed with the database name from developer 1's machine. When the table is expanded in this view the Catalog still shows as the DB name from developer 1's machine despite the connection properties above correctly showing the local DB name.
    As I say this is a design time issue not a runtime issue.
    Any ideas? Is there any way we can edit the Catalog name manually?

    Try setting the Over ridden qualified Table Name
    Set Datasource - > Tablename -> Properties
    Double click Over ridden qualified Table Name, type name as shown in in the table name field above it.
    Repeat for each table, this removes schema and db names associated with Table. Take a look at the SQL and make sure all tables are no longer prefixed.
    Report should now be totally portable.
