Help with displaying spatial data

Hi, i am new to spatial and have a table (temp_properties) that has numerous columns, one of which is called shape and is of mdsys.sdo_geometry type.
I also have a table in another database that also has a shape column the same, we cannot seem to use the shape column across the database link as we keep getting 'remote operations not permitted on object tables or user-defined type columns'
is this a known limitation or is it just the way i am trying to do it?
We would also like to be able to retrieve the coordinates in sql from this shape column, but keep getting errors.

Hi,
before just one question : have you an column wich is called
se_anno_cad_data in your table with the shape field.
Spatial Operator :
For example if you have polygone in your shape field
you can obtain the centroid of the polygone by this
query:
select c.code_topo, c.centroid.sdo_point.x as X, c.centroid.sdo_point.y as Y
from (select e.code_topo, sdo_geom.sdo_centroid(sdo_geom.sdo_convexhull(e.geom, 0.05), 0.05) as CENTROID
from expl_local e) c
with expl_local : my table with the sdo_geometry type field and geom the name of the sdo_geometry field
sdo_geom.sdo_centroid and sdo_geom.sdo_convexhull are
spatial operator from Oracle Spatial Option.
nice to read you

• Problem with displaying chart data

Hello everybody,
I have problem with displaying chart data correctly. I'm using a cartesian chart with DateTimeAxis. The stockdata I'm using is for half a year and
with ticks for every day. The problem is, that Flex displays the data of february in march together with the data of march. I have added a picture
to show the result. The second column of the grid is for february and the third for march.
Could anybody help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.
Thomas

Hi Chris,
thanks for your reply. Here you get the source code:
The following method creates the LineChart:
public function init():void
model.upperChart = this;
model.upperChartStyle.setChartViewStyle(this);
this.hAxis = new MyDateTimeAxis();
model.upperChartData.configureHAxis(this.hAxis);
this.vAxis = new LinearAxis();
model.upperChartData.configureVAxis(this.vAxis);
this.vAxisTitle = new Label();
this.vAxisTitle.text = model.upperChartData.getVAxisTitle();
model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisTitleLabelStyle(this.vAxisTitle);
this.vAxisTitle.x = 10
this.vAxisTitle.y = 0;
this.addChild(this.vAxisTitle);
this.myChart = new CartesianChart();
//remove default datatip
this.myChart.showDataTips = false;
this.myChart.x = 10;
this.myChart.y = 0;
this.myChart.width = 768;
this.myChart.height = 196;
model.upperChartStyle.setChartStyle(this.myChart);
this.addChild(this.myChart);
//Remove line shadow
this.myChart.seriesFilters = null;
this.myChart.horizontalAxis = this.hAxis;
this.myChart.verticalAxis = this.vAxis;
this.hAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
model.upperChartData.configureHAxisRenderer(this.hAxisRenderer);
this.hAxisRenderer.axis = this.hAxis;
model.upperChartStyle.setHAxisRendererStyle(this.hAxisRenderer);
this.myChart.horizontalAxisRenderers.push(this.hAxisRenderer);
this.vAxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer();
model.upperChartData.configureVAxisRenderer(this.vAxisRenderer);
this.vAxisRenderer.axis = this.vAxis;
model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisRendererStyle(this.vAxisRenderer);
this.myChart.verticalAxisRenderers.push(this.vAxisRenderer);
model.upperChartStyle.setVAxisDataLabelStyle(this.vAxisMinLabel);
this.addChild(this.vAxisMinLabel);
model.upperChartStyle.setSeriesStyle(model.upperChartData.series, model.upperChartData.shares);
this.myChart.dataProvider = model.upperChartData.dataProvider;
this.myChart.series = model.upperChartData.series;
The data for dataprovider and series you can see in attached file dataprovider.xml.
xfield is equivalent to timestamp
yfield is equivalent to absolute
I think the problem could be the configuration of the datetimeaxis. The following method shows the parameter for the datetimeaxis:
public function configureHAxis(axis:MyDateTimeAxis):void
axis.parseFunction = UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date;
axis.dataUnits = "days";
axis.dataInterval = 1;
axis.title = "";
axis.minimum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-01-07 00:00:00").time);
axis.maximum = new Date(UtilityClass.parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date("2009-07-06 00:00:00").time);
And finally you get the function, that I'm using for string to date conversion:
public static function parseYYYYMMDDHHNNSSString2Date(input:String):Date
var result:Date = new Date();
var year:Number = Number(input.substring(0,4));
var month:Number = Number(input.substring(5,7));
var date:Number = Number(input.substring(8,10));
var hours:Number = Number(input.substring(11,13));
var minutes:Number = Number(input.substring(14,16));
var seconds:Number = Number(input.substring(17,19));
result.setUTCFullYear(year);
result.setUTCMonth(month-1);
result.setUTCDate(date);
result.setUTCHours(hours);
result.setUTCMinutes(minutes);
result.setUTCSeconds(seconds);
return result;
I hope that will help to locate the reason for the wrong chart visualization.
Thanks for any help.

• Help with displaying data in advanceddatagrid

Hi,
I am working on flex 4.5.0 with java 5 as back end using blazeds.
I've to display nested data in advanceddatagrid.
Complex Person -> Person
From the backend i am sending an ArrayList of ComplexPerson which consists of Person Object as well.
code snippet is as follows
ComplexPerson complexPerson = new ComplexPerson(person);
complexPerson.setUser(person.getUser());
complexPersonList.add(complexPerson);
return complexPersonList;
When i access the ArrayList on the Flex end I am able to print the number of elements in the ArrayList but when i try to print the elements within the ArrayList I get following error
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at net.sf.gilead.pojo.actionscript::LightEntity/toString()[C:\eclipse\workspace\gilead\gilea d\trunk\adapter-actionscript\src\net\sf\gilead\pojo\actionscript\LightEntity.as:55].
So my question is
1. how do i set a parent-child relationship between ComplexPerson and Person Object. whether i should do it java by passing some property or is there any functionality available in flex.
2. I dont want to pass an XML from java to flex as i am using remote object.
Could anyone please suggest what is the best way to do this?
Thanks in advance.

• DISPLAY SPATIAL DATA USING JDBC ON A JAVA FRAME

I am trying to set up some spatial data and need help in getting some sample
code for displaying the data on a Java Frame using JDBC.
The shapes I am setting up are simple polygons, lines, circles. I was going
through the samples in the demo directory under $ORACLE_HOME/md/demo/examples, but could not find any JDBC
I would really appreciate if you can point me towards some sample code and any other spatial resources.
Madhukar

Here you go. It uses JDBC to fetch geoms, convert them into Java JGeometry objects, which then create Java2D shapes (these are functions of the public sdoapi.jar library). It then uses some class in the sdovis.jar library (the rendering engine of MapViewer) to setup the necessary viewport transform. If you know how to setup the viewport transform, then you dont even need sdovis. sdovis.jar is found in an deployed MapViewer's WEB-INF/lib directory. Or you can extract it from the mapviewer.ear's web.war file.

• Help with display quality (LCD TV)

I've hooked up my Mac mini to my Samsung 32" LCD TV via HDMI cable.
The overall quality is just far from desireable and is taking away all of the fun from using this new mac.
I set the resolution output to 720p, which is what the TV supports. So that's good.
I played slightly with the Contrast and Brightness on the TV settings.
But I must be missing something. Although the image is sharp, it's very difficult to read from 6ft away, pictures look terrible (seeing the same picture on a different computer and monitor is so much more revealing), and the display is bad for everything basically.
Please help with any settings suggestions or perhaps a detailed guideline for my setup.
I started to configure a color profile on the display settings but the results weren't that great and I reverted to default. Too many subtle changes. My colorblindness probably doesn't help.
Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
It's the latest Mac Mini with 2.5ghz i5, AMD Radeon HD 6630M, and 8GB RAM.
I am familiar with the "Just Scan" setting under picture size on the Samsung TV.
I'll look for the digital noise reduction.
Are there complete guides with recommended settings for different setups? Or maybe even general, that would help me here?
Thanks.

• Help with display settings needed urgently

Graphics and icons that are supposed to be round appear oval. For instance the Safari and App icons on the dock appear very oval. Logos on websites I've visited before and I know are round appear oval.
I've tried all display settings and nothing helps. I'm a designer and this is causing a major hinderance. Everything appears condenced / squashed sideways. I'd be very grateful if someone could help with this.
I've just purchased the laptop. I have been using Mac for a few years and I've always selected the "stretched" option from the Display settings which sorted out the problem completely. A circle looked a proper circle. But in this version the option is not available.
Badly hoping someone can help with this.
Thanks.
Version Details - OS X Lion 10.7.4

It sounds like you have selected an incorrect resolution. For starters, are you talking about your Air's display or an external display? You haven't said which Air you have. If you have an 11" model, make sure your display resolution is set to 1366x768. If you have a 13" model, it should be set to 1440x900. These are the proper resolutions for the built in displays. Chosing anything other than the referenced "native" display resolutions will result in distortions or clarity problems.

• Help with display of numbers

First of all I have to say the tutorials on this site are extremely helpful. My instructor wants all our java code written as Object Oriented and when I did a search on here for Object Oriented it totally helped out. Now I just need help with the display of numbers, my code works perfectly fine except that the number has wayyyyyyyyyyy to many decimal points after it. I only wanted two.

• Help with displaying image received from socket on Canvas

Dear programmers
I know that I'm pestering you lot for a lot of help but I just got one tiny problem which I just can't get over.
I'm developing a remote desktop application which uses an applet as it's client and I need help in displaying the image.
When a connection is made to the server, it continuously takes screenshots, converts them to jpg and then send them to the client applet via socket communication. I've got the the server doing this in a for(;;) loop and I've tested the communication and all seems to be working fine. However the applet is causing some issues such as displaying "loading applet" until I stop the server and then the 1st screenshot is displayed. Is there a way to modify the following code so that it displays the current image onto a canvas while the next image is being downloaded and then replace the original image with the one which has just been downloaded. All this needs to be done with as little flicker as possible.
for(;;)
filename = dis.readUTF();
fileSize = dis.readInt();
fileInBuffer = new byte[fileSize];
dis.readFully(fileInBuffer, 0, fileSize-1);
//Create an image from the byte array
img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(fileInBuffer);
//Create a MyCanvas object and add the canvas to the applet
canvas = new IRDPCanvas(img, this);
canvas.addMouseListener(this);
canvas.addKeyListener(this);
add(canvas);
}

Anyone?

• Help with display glith using JList

Hi, first post so bit of background - I'm teaching Java at the moment, am fine with command line but am dabbling more with Swing, despite certain glitches I always get ( e.g. the 7-segment display last year) but anyway....
I've been trying to develop a little app that picks random boxers for a computer game. My current problem is that i am trying to add custom boxers and then update the JList and repaint the frame. When I add a boxer i can see it adding to the list, however it is unreadable and displayed too small.
Forgive any bad coding etiquettes - its very much a work in progress from a relatively poor programmer ;)

Awww, its nice that DB has someone to comeback and carry on a discussion.....long after its over.
The problem here seems to be your lack of understanding between what a teacher or what an 'instructor' is.
From the way you speak, an instructor appears to be someone who is technically skilled in both coding and teaching Java as a programming language, designed for people who wish to code in Java.
A Teacher is someone who must deliver a wide range of subject knowledge to a wide range of abilities, including those who were unable to pass High-School exams. They are responsible for pitching the subject at the correct level for the student, whilst also teaching towards passing the exam, and ultimately gaining a qualification.
The computing course i am currently teaching does not require OOP, but as Java is the language i was taught at University, and is still often used in our University's, I chose it. I don't pretend to be the best programmer in the world. But I do know that I am teaching the pupils the correct basics, at a higher level than is probably required, to give them the right approach at university. also, this is whilst teaching a large amount of theory.
Whether you agree, or disagree, matters not to me as I think you would be unfamilier with the specification I am currently teaching to, or what area's of study need to be taught. The exam board appears happy, as do past students who are now well into their university course, as did my marker when i achieved my degree.
The code posted in the OP (as stated earlier) had nothing to do with displaying my coding abilities, nor did it display the technique's I use when teaching students. It was a small sample of a program which included a JList which was not displaying properly. I tried to include the whole code but it was too big, therefore it was cut down.
It was a work in progress which i now have working. So now i can look at it again in terms of programming structure. It appears I have made a mistake asking for assistance on here, as instead I got a lecture, with very little insight on your part as to my situation or the nature of the problem/solution.
At the end of the day, each to his/her own opinion. What I will say is that when someone requests help, positive feedback/criticism is well recieved along with instructions/guidance on how the problem can be solved. I feel that I received none of this on here, but this is what I will always provide to the students I teach.
Not everyone is a full-time Java programmer or has the time to hit the highest expectations.

• Help with excel grouped data and sorting to keep data intact

I have a master spreadsheet with lots of data. I am trying to grouped the data based on physical address/city, add the values and once done sort it by valuation based on descending order by valuation but my data keep messing up.
So in Row 1/col A: Address 1; Col B City: XXX; Col C: Valuation $$$
Row 2/col A: Address 1; Col B City: XXX; Col C: Vauation $$$
Row 3/col A: Address 2; COl B City: YYY; Col C: Valuation $$$
SO I sort by city and in ROw 1/2 same city with same address, I grouped it. THen I created a new row below Row 3 and add up the grouped data (i.e. ROw 1 and 2). I go through the entire list to finalize the grouped locations.
But when I am done and I sort by Valuation, all my data messed up coz I created a new row with addition of grouped location valuation and the formula gets messed up.
Any one with ideas please help. My deadline for this project is just a week away and I am freaking out.
THanks in advance.

it seems upload a sample is more clearly about the required.

• Little help with FORM POST data not in UTF-8 (JSP/servlet)

Hello,
I am trying to update a MySQL database record with UTF-8 characters with my JSP application.
1) I have MySQL correctly configured to handle UTF8 and have tested insert/update/select with UTF8 characters
2) I have an "editRecord.jsp" page. At the top of the page, I specify:
<% request.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8"); %>
3) I have an input form which is specified in that page which follows:
<form action="<c:url value="/updateRecord.jsp"/>"
name="updatetForm" method="post"
ACCEPT-CHARSET="UTF-8"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
4) I have a servlet filter that takes every HttpServletRequest and modifies that object in
doFilter(...){
request.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
chain.doFilter(...)
5) In updateRecord.jsp, I fill a JavaBean with the form data. Here's an example of the form input:
name = Company
Comments=Here's some unicode text: "يني إن بلاده م
6) When I put a breakpoint and inspect the contents of the UpdateBean after posting the form, running the request through the filter, I see
I see:
name = Company
Comments=Here's some unicode text: „...."
Where could I possibly be missing something to force UTF8 encoding of these values?

If you have to use the following code to fix the encoding:
String value = new String(item.getString().getBytes("ISO-8859-1"), "UTF-8"); ...
then you are just putting a band aid on something that is broken somewhere else (since this code creates a byte array in 8859-1 and then creates a string from that byte array, but assuming that the array is encoded in UTF-8). That will only work if the string you start out with is mangled.
In many cases such a fix will actually "work" (in the sense that you may end up with something that is correctly encoded in the end), but you run the risk of breaking if the source of the original corruption is removed.

• Help with displaying a tree...

Hello,
I created a window program that displays some data in a tree structure. I have two versions of the program. One that works and one that doesn't. The one that does, builds the tree in the constructor method of my window class, creates a scrollPane for it, and adds the scrollPane to the window. Again, this version displays the tree fine.
The second version, what I want to accomplish is load the tree when a button is pressed. When the button is pressed, I execute exactly the same steps that I do in the constructor but now these steps are in the actionPerformed method associated to the button. The thing is that the program does not display the tree. I have tried the repaint methods at the contentPane level, at the tree level, reloading the treeModel, but cannot get the tree to show. I would very appreciate any ideas on this...
Thanks
Antonio

Hey...
Thanks for the tip...that did the trick. What does the validate() method do exactly? The documentation doesn't say much....Thanks again...

• Help with displaying Date from Unix seconds

My program receives seconds taken from a Unix system and must display them on my GUI. I realize I have to convert seconds to milliseconds for the Date, plus I take into consideration the timezone.
My problem is that everything works correctly for time zones from GMT -1:00 all the way to GMT -12:00, but GMT time and all the zones between GMT +1:00 to GMT +12:00 display the wrong time. It varies how many hours off it is.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been searching for similar issues.
here is my code:
static public String SecToTimeOfDay(long sec)
SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");
long timeZone = java.util.TimeZone.getDefault().getRawOffset();
int milli = 1000;
String date;
if (timeZone < 0)
timeZone = timeZone * -1;
//convert to seconds to milliseconds
date = dateFormat.format(new java.util.Date((sec * milli) + timeZone));
return date;
}

That is not the right way to handle time zones. Try the following and see if you're still having problems.
static public String SecToTimeOfDay(long sec){
SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss");
dateFormat.setTimeZone(java.util.TimeZone.getDefault());
int milli = 1000;
date = dateFormat.format(new java.util.Date(sec * milli));
return date;
}

• Problems with displaying read data from a .lvm file

Hi all.
I aquire data with the PCMCIA card 6036E. I aquire online in Labview 7 and store the data in a .lvm file. When i try to display the same data i aquired before with the "read .lvm file" express vi, the waveform chart redraws itself after an undefined time, sometimes it redraws faster and sometimes it takes longer. WHY? i have only one header per aquisition and if i restart the aquisition a new file is written! I tried almost everything. Is this a bug from labview 7?
I really appreciate your help.
best regards,
Bernd

Hi Khalid,
Here is a simplified version of my VI and also 2 .lvm files from the logged data. Sorry for the size, but I aquire with a sample rate of 20 kS/s and my main frequency is only 0.3 Hz. In the 6MB file I aquired a little more than 3 periods. When you run the VI with this file at the beginning it redraws very often and very fast, then after some time it draws about 1 period and then it redraws again and so on. I want that the hole data from this file is displayed at once. The 900kB file is aquired with 10kS/s and about 1.5 periods. This is the last size the displaying is working with. You think it is possible that the VI only works until 1MB? But my data usually is much bigger than that. I hope you can use the data because it is
zipped, but otherwise it wouldnt be possible to post it.
Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it!
Best regards,
Bernd
