Help with IllegalArgumentException: Object: ... is not a known entity type.

Hi there.
I'm trying to get TopLink JPA running with Oracle / Spring / JUnit, but so far with no success. The exception I get when trying to persist my rather simple entity is :
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Object: com.yospace.tundra.mediafarm.job.Job@38b554 is not a known entity type.
     at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.sessions.UnitOfWorkImpl.registerNewObjectForPersist(UnitOfWorkImpl.java:3198)
     at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.ejb.cmp3.base.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:190)
My entity class is :
package com.yospace.tundra.mediafarm.job;
// imports ...
@Entity()
public class Job
@Id
@GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO)
private Long id;
public Job()
* @return the id
public Long getId()
return id;
* Set the id of this job.
* @param id
public void setId(Long id)
this.id = id;

This fails when I run a JUnit test under Eclipse -- it falls over on the first operation, which creates then attempts to persist a job.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to what exactly I'm doing wrong ...?
Thanks,
Henry

I had the same "is not a known entity type" error when running under a development environment Eclipse/Tomcat using Toplink. But the almost same code and configuration worked when running under Eclipse as a stand-alone Java app.
Eventually I figured out (actually trial and error), that I had checked the toplink-essentials.jar libraries to be exported under: Eclipse Project/Java Build Path/Order and Export. I was messing around with libraries. Unchecking the export option there fixed the problem.
While its unlikely that this could have been your exact problem, I would check the library order and export configurations. Looking at other message boards about this problem, many seemed to have been caused or fixed by playing with their libraries.

  • "is not a known entity" error from EclipseLink

    Hi,
    I'm seeing a strange behavior in Weblogic (10.3.3) when using EclipseLink (2.0.2).
    Here is what I do. I use Maven to compile a project in which I use JPA (1.0.2). In this project, module *"A"* depends on module *"B"*. "B" contains a bunch of Entities ( javax.persistence.Entity_ ). But *"persistence.xml"* is in "A" in which all entities of "B" are registered. "B" is deployed as an Optional Package and "A" refers to it via its MANIFEST.
    Deployment is successful but when I run the application and try to persist an entity I get the above error in "A".
    One of the following actions will solve it:
    - Restart the weblogic server
    - Update module A's POM file and explicitly add a dependency to module B. Originally this dependency is not there because classes in module A accept "Object" and pass that through to EntityManager (not explicitly the entity class type). Adding this dependency doesn't change the JAR file's manifest in anyway. It only update the "maven" directory in JAR file's META-INF folder. I don't think weblogic even care about this folder.
    Why should this be the case?
    I downloaded EclipseLinks' source and debugged the application. It seems that the problem occurs because "*+descriptors+*" collection field in "*+org.eclipse.persistence.internal.sessions.AbstractSession+*" class doesn't have the entity's descriptor and thus it doesn't recognize it as an Entity. I reckon restarting the server updates that cache. But what about the second solution? Why is that working? Is "maven" directory in JAR file's META-INF directory known to weblogic?

    There was a bug in earlier releases for deleting dimensions with children, making the children orphans.
    Heard from release notes that it has been fixed, but we are seeing this issue in 11.1.2.1 again.
    Please help us out in resolving this error.

    Hi,
    I always ask this first, have you installed all the planning and epma patches as there have been many issues addressed in 9.3.1

    Hi all,
    I know that this is the not exact forum to post this issue.
    I'm working on a clustered environment and my server details are given below
    a) jboss-4.0.2
    b) J2SDK-1.4.2_09
    In my jboss.xml file, I have defined
           <session>

    Try this:
    Class objCls = Class.forName ("ClassName");
    Object obj = objCls.newInstance();
    method.invoke(objCls , null);
    This will throw an exception. However, following will work:
    method.invoke(obj , null);
    OR
    method.invoke(new ClassName(), null);

  • Help with Combining Objects

    I've been thinking of submiting some of my Illustrator designs to iStock and I want clean up the files and perhaps combine some of the objects so there isn't this bigg mess of layers. The problem I'm having is that some objects need to be on top of other objects - for example a shadow on a foot needs to be above the layer with the foot's primary color. So if I wanted to combine objects that are in this kind of order would anyone have any tips or suggestions? I also want to combine layers that have just lines I've drawn on them, like movement lines which are just open paths with strokes. If I could get these types of objects all merged into one object then I could cut down not only on the size of the file but also the number of layers involved. This way when someone buys it from iStock they're not faced with this huge file with hundreds of layers.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Fully familiarize yourself with these topics:
    Combining paths. These are functions common in vector programs which union, punch, and intersect multiple paths. In Illustrator, they are called Pathfinders.
    Outlining Srokes. Creates unstroked filled paths around the edges of stroked paths. Understanding this is integral to using path combination functions in Illustrator especially, because Illustrator is so poor at cutting and dealing with open unfilled paths.
    Transparency and other Raster Effects. You need to understand which effects and transparency settings result in rasterization, and what that portends regarding the scaleability of your artwork.
    Color Model. Are you going to deliver CMYK or RGB files? Do you know why?
    What format do you intend to provide to the clipart reseller? Native AI files? If so, what version?
    Merely having Layers in your AI file does not significantly affect file size. An AI file is a stack of objects. That's true whether the whole stack of objects resides on a single Layer or a hundred Layers. Layers are nothing but another way of "grouping" subsets of the object stack for organization purposes. You seem to be thinking of Layers in AI as similar to Layers in Photoshop. That is a very common and very basic misunderstanding of the nature of vector artwork.
    It's the object constructs that you need to concern yourself with when creating clean, efficient, reliable, versatile, and easy-to-work-with vector artwork. "Normalize" things to their simplest constructs. Avoid unnecessary anchorpoints, clipping paths, masking, so-called "transparency" and "live effects."
    I very much applaud your desire to build clean files. (There is far too much sloppy, convoluted crap floating around out there nowadays.) Not meaning to discourage, but the fact of your concern about Layers frankly suggests that you may not really be ready to be delivering ready-made and problem-free artwork for widespread use as clipart. You need to fully understand the items mentioned above, and alot more. Asking questions in a user forum will be a very slow method of learning that stuff--there are too many variables and specific situations.

  • Help with layered objects

    I am new to Pages and struggling to layer objects. I am working with opacity, but unable to move one object on top of another.
    thanks for any help,
    Kim

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Kim
    When you insert any object in a Pages document & have it "fixed on page," by default wrap is turned on with a 12 point gutter. This results in objects "pushing" other objects out of the way. With your object(s) selected, go to the wrap inspector & uncheck "object causes wrap." Unfortunately, there is no way to change this default setting, it will have to be done manually for any object inserted. You may wish to leave feedback for the Pages team asking that the ability to have wrap apply to all objects or not be added as a preference in future versions of Pages.

  • Please help with an error "could not write value key \Software\classes\iTune.wav.....

    I have windows 7 with plenty of memory and storage capacity. When accessing iTunes I had an error message to uninstall and reinstall. I have uninstalled but when trying to reinstall I get the error message "could not write value key \software\classes\iTune.wav. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel"  I don't understand what this means, can anyone help please?

    For "Could not open key/write value" errors when reinstalling try b noir's user tip:
    "Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\

  • Help with Sub-catalog CSS not rendering properly

    I am having a issue with  deep Sub-catalogs not displaying an external style sheet, possibly being overwritten by modulestylesheet?
    Sorry if it looks a little sloppy, the site is still a work in progress...
    If you look here at this main catalog : http://www.4plotters.com/shop/   --------- >the css is being applied properly,
    the next level down here : http://www.4plotters.com/shop/Toner-Ink  --------------> css also applied properly.
    but... when you go one more level deep   here : http://www.4plotters.com/shop/Toner-Ink/ink-wide-format  -----> css is not being applied from my external css (much of its functionality is to overwrite the modulestyle sheet) Notice the link colors change to blue, and the catalog images and headers don't match the catalogs before it.
    I have some other external twitter bootstrap css files that are still being applied, so I am a little confused. I am fairly new to css and html (and self taught) so I might be just missing some fundamental precedence rules.
    Thanks in advance!
    *Edit* When I change the parent catalog to the top level "Shop" catalog, the css is once again applied properly. It is something about being 2 or 3 levels deep that breaks the css link.

    Hi,
    Go into your template and remove the ".." prior to the CSS reference to help correct this issue.

  • Help with View Objects code

    I need to add some new methods to my source code of an View Object (ej. KssegtrolesImp.java) and call them in my jsp pages. In that file we have by default methods as:
    create(), doDML(), etc..
    I added new methods but I don`t know how to do to call that method on an Entity Object.
    Please I really need some help.

    Hi Gina,
    I'm not quite sure I understand--Do you need to call View Object methods or Entity Object methods?
    It sounds like you want to call Entity Object methods, if I understand correctly. You can't do that directly, because clients don't directly access the Entity Object layer.
    You can instead access these from a View Row. I'm about to post a HowTo on accessing EO methods this way.
    Best,
    Avrom

  • Help with Cloned Objects

    Object.clone() should create a new Instance of the Object right? Same member varible values, etc. but different memory, not a reference back to the same Object right?
    I've got the following class that implements Cloneable:
    public abstract class Control implements ControlInterface, Cloneable {
       * Create a clone from super.clone() and add it to the List this.clones
      public Object clone()  {
        Control ctrl = null;
        System.out.println("Orig : " + this.getMeta("id") + "," + this.toString());
        try {
          ctrl = (Control)super.clone();
          clones.add(ctrl);
          // change the Control's ID to reflect it's
          // position in the List
          ctrl.setMeta("id", ctrl.getMeta("id") + "_" + clones.size());
          System.out.println("Clone: " + ctrl.getMeta("id") + "," + ctrl.toString());
          System.out.println("Orig : " + this.getMeta("id") + "," + this.toString());
        catch (CloneNotSupportedException e) {
          // should never happen since class implements Cloneable
        return ctrl;
    }When I clone the object, it prints:
    Orig : companyname,com.alcatel.report.controls.TextControl@ca5f2c
    Clone: companyname_1,com.alcatel.report.controls.TextControl@2e714b
    Orig : companyname_1,com.alcatel.report.controls.TextControl@ca5f2c
    Why does the original Object's getMeta("id") value change? Shouldn't it stay the same? Ugh, I'm confused :)

    right, sorry - I mean, could you post the code where
    you create the original object, then the cloned
    object.Well, nothing really non-standard about it, just a call to the constructor and then a call to the .clone() method later:
    creation
      private void parseControls(Node node) throws AlaException, AlaMissingParamException {
        if (node != null) {
          NodeList children = node.getChildNodes();
          for (int i=0; i < children.getLength(); i++) {
            Node child = children.item(i);
            if ("input".equals(child.getNodeName())) {
              NamedNodeMap attribs = child.getAttributes();
              Node type = attribs.getNamedItem("type");
              if ("text".equals(type.getNodeValue())) {
                this.controls.add(new TextControl(child, request));
              if ("search".equals(type.getNodeValue())) {
                this.controls.add(new SearchControl(child, request));
              if ("date".equals(type.getNodeValue())) {
                this.controls.add(new DateControl(child, request));
              if ("date-range".equals(type.getNodeValue())) {
                this.controls.add(new DateRangeControl(child, request));
              if ("lov".equals(type.getNodeValue())) {
                this.controls.add(new LovControl(child, request));
    clone
      public void cloneControl(String id) throws AlaException {
        for (int i=0; i < controls.size(); i++) {
          Control ctrl = (Control)controls.get(i);
          if (ctrl.getMeta("id").equals(id)) {
            ctrl.clone();
      }The returned Object is not saved because the controls keep track of their own clones in an ArrayList.

    sharkura said all the OP needs at the moment. I just wanted to clarify a bit why You don't use == 99.999% of the time with objects, and never with String.
    I have argued elsewhere in these forums that it is inappropriate to tell anyone that you never use == to compare objects. This has not always been accepted. I have, on rare occasions, known experienced developers to blindly compare two objects with equals(), and cite the professor that taught them, 15 years iin the past, that object references are never compared using ==, but always with equals().
    However, the cases where == is appropriate and equals() is not are indeed rare, but not, in my experience, non-existent. In my statement, I probably exaggerated. And String is a case where I can probably accept that you will probably never go wrong with equals(). If the String has been pooled (see String::intern()), you can actually use either. From the javadocs: "*It follows that for any two strings s and t, s.intern() == t.intern() is true if and only if s.equals(t) is true.*"

  • Itunes  please help with functions (possible or not???)

    Hello
    I´m sorry that my questions are a little long - but please please i´m new with IPod and ITunes - and well at the moment i feel like if i had known how unorganized ITunes is and that i can´t acces the data on my IPod directly i would perhaps not have bought the IPod at all... (but perhaps - i really really hope so - i just cant find out HOW to do all i want and it IS possible after all...) so please take the time and if you know the ansers tell me how to do that...
    Since yesterday i have an IPod classic but unfortunately my own computer has only Windows 2000 - so i have to sync/transfer the Data from my Mom´s PC and so i have to delete the data on her PC after i got them on the IPOD once (and the should stay there untill i´m ready to delete them...)
    1)
    a) what happens if i sync my ITunes/Ipod and i allready deletet most of the music on my moms PC - will the music on the IPod be deleted too? - If yes can i prevent that? (how?)
    b) can i manually choose which titles i want to add/remove to/from my Ipod? i can´t see any way at the moment !!!
    I can see a kind of inventory list of my IPod but i can´t find out how to move Data on/in the folders of the IPod - only by synchronisation - now i know i HAVE allready Data on the IPod but every folder in Itunes of my Ipod is Empty... so how can i acces these data please???
    2)
    My second Problem ist that i can´t find out how to "sort" my chaotic 10.0000 (ok ok not so many right now but getting there some time) different Music-Data into different folders - ok i could add them to diffrent playlists - but one of the main Problems is the fact that many of my data are not properly classified so i need to organize the music so that i "see" only the Music from one particulary folder of my harddisk (then uppdate those information like adding all data from that Folder to a personal "album" or similar...) and every time i add a folder to the mediathek all the songs (different artist, different albums, different everything or missing information) are then spread out all through the music folder and i have to manually search for every single on and then manually add it to a playlist which is more timeconsuming than it is worth it...
    So please help me - HOW DO i make new Folders (NOT PLAYLISTS!!!) in which to sort the music??? so i do not have only ONE Music-Folder but perhaps 2, oder 3 or later more subfolders under the music-Folder?
    If that is really not possible - can i then at least sort my music after path-name (haven´t found out how to do that either yet...)
    3) I have a folder audibooks (which is really really great since i´m an audible customer and have moren then 40 audiobooks allready...) and my audible audiobooks are all added to that folder...
    But i have a few Other Audiobooks in MP3-Format (from MP3 DVD/ and a few CD´s formated as MP3) and even after i uppdated the information so it say´s now audibook in Type - i just can´t find out how to transfer those audibooks to the audiobooks folder (they stay in music-folder and are not found by Ipod as audibooks - only accessible under music with type audibooks which really ***** because that is unnecessary complicated... )
    so how do i get thos books in the audiobooks folder please?
    I hope anyone can help me...
    best regards

    Thanks very much that takes care o my Question 1:
    It really is a great relief so now i know can sync the IPod manually - basically i tried the right things but in the wrong order - lol so i accidently deletet everthing on the IPod again and then i was staring on the blank inventory of my Ipod and wondering why i could not access the music that should be there...
    Still anyone knows an answer to question 2 and 3
    2) is it possible to "sort" Itunes in subfolders - so i can acces only one folder at a time
    3) Is ist possible to somehow classify any type of MP3/similar Data as "audibook" so that Data will show up as audibook on the Ipod? (not as music with type audiobook)
