Help with jsp page

I have a servlet which passes details to a jsp page, i am having trouble picking up what is passed in the jsp page can somebody help me with this?
this is the lines from the servlet which should pass the data:
request.setAttribute("notvalid", "whatShouldIputHere");
               RequestDispatcher dispatcher = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/mypage.jsp");
               dispatcher.forward(request, response);          This is the jsp page i have tried to make:
<body>
     <jsp:usebean id="notvalid"
          class ="site.validator2"
          Scope="request"     />
     <h1>message: </h1>
     <jsp:getProperty name="notvalid" property="notvalid" />
</body>
</html>

The fundamental problem is that the OP is asking questions about Servlet and JSP development without fully understanding the basics of containers and the rendezvous method of data sharing, life-cycle, data scope, and the like.
It is better that (s)he read up on the basics.

  • Help with jsp page and bpel process

    I learnt BPEL process is a web service and it could be invoked.
    I want to write a jsp page to do it.
    I read about Locator, Idelliveryservice,normalizedmessage...
    The method addPart of normalizedmessage class take only one string (other than payload) or an element.
    If i have 2 or more variables in payload, have i to use
    normmessage.addPart(...,var1)
    normmessage.addPart(...,var2)
    normmessage.addPart(...,var3)
    or have i to put all the variable in an element and use only once addPart?
    Thanks
    Ema
    PS-Is there a precise example about this problem? i read only "loandemo" process and "helloworld" process.

    Here's how I built mine:
    String xml = "<EmailControlProcessRequest xmlns=\"http://xmlns.oracle.com/EmailControl\">"
    + "<input>" + input + "</input>" + "<changeType>" + changeType + "</changeType>" + "<days>" + days + "</days>" + "</EmailControlProcessRequest>"
    Basically, look inside JDev to see the how your whole variable is formed. Then, build your xml string according to how it's built.
    My variable is built like this:
    <EmailControlProcessRequest>
    <input>input info</input>
    <changeType>changeType info</changeType>
    <days>days info</days>
    </EmailControlProcessRequest>
    Then, after that, I do this:
    NormalizedMessage nm = new NormalizedMessage();
    nm.addPart("payload", xml);

    I'm not sure I've got a grasp on the issue you are having but let me give it a try
    Website A is finished and you have uploaded it to the Internet, so it is LIVE.
    You make a copy of Website A, and call it Website B, then make all required changes.
    IF you uploaded Website B, then it is likely you will overwrite Website A. You must instead, upload Website B as a separate Website.
    To publish to a new site:
    Click Publish.
    Then click the expansion triangle left of Options.
    Change Publish To setting to New Site
    fill out rest of required details, and click OK to publish.
    You'll now have two separate web-sites.
    If you need to link between them, use absolute hyperlinks (the full URL).
    Hope this helps.

  • How to get context sensitive help  in JSP Pages

    Is it possible to display context sensitive help in JSP Pages when I press the tab key on the keyboard base on the key focus. I dont want to use any applet or Swing components, because its a web page viewed on the browser
    Thanks

    Java code inside a JSP is interpreted on the server and the HTML produced by the server it is shown in the client browser. The JSP code can incorporate calls to the JavaHelp API if it is available to the server. Those calls can be used on the server side to map parts of the JSP to contents of a help set (HTML pages).
    Given that, you can provide context sensitive help, but when it comes to view help information, you either can show HTML only (without TOC, index, etc.) or you'd need an applet.

  • Need help with JSP - Session Bean scenario

    I have massive problems with a simple JSP <--> Statefull Session Bean scenario with Server Platform Edition 8.2 (build b06-fcs)

  • Help : my JSP page work in 8i but not in 10g. Any idea ?

    Hello,
    We have a 10g environment with Portal and SSO.
    When we were under 8i, I built a JSP file to display data from our DB via IE.
    Now that we are under 10g, I noticed that the JSP file doesn't work anymore...
    I located the JSP file in a similar directory as in 8i ... under ../Apache/Apache/htdocs/
    1) Is there any missing setup in our portal for making this JSP page work ?
    2) It seems that the HTML code is interpreted and correctly displayed, but none of the JSP code is interpreted .... even a "out.println" doesn't run ....
    So, at least the JSP file is found .... but it doesn't completely work !
    Do you have any idea ?
    3) I don't understand the problem... and in other forums, some people suggested that I should not use JSP anymore....
    I would like to understand why ?
    I am something like stuck !!!
    Shall I really use another technology ? (XML, .. )
    Thanks a lot in advance for your helps.
    Olivier

    Hello,
    It could be that there are just libraries missing from your project or some parts of the page aren't being loaded because they reside in another directory.
    Are you trying to run the page in an embedded server? If so, you should add the runtime libraries for a JSP project.
    You should use what you want to use, if you want to use JSP, it's perfectly fine.
    Greetings,

  • Help with jsp and javaBean in eclipse/Tomcat

    Hi,
    I am new to JSP and JavaBean. I am going through tutorial for a jsp page that uses a javaBean. I am using eclipse to create jsp page and the java bean.
    My eclipse project "Date" has five package as under:-
    1. Deployment Descriptor
    2. Java Resources: src
    3. build
    4. WebContent
    I have my data.jsp page in WebContent/WEB-INF/ folder. When I just run date.jsp in a browser as: http://localhost:8080/Date/date.jsp, it gets launched into the browser correctly. But when I add a JavaBean "TimeFormatterBean.java" in the Java Resources:src folder and use it in date.jsp page, I get errors as under:-
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP:
    An error occurred at line: 5 in the jsp file: /date.jsp
    TimeFormatterBean cannot be resolved to a type
    2: pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"%>
    3: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    4:
    5: <jsp:useBean id="formatter" class="TimeFormatterBean"/>
    6:
    7: <html>
    8: <head>
    The data.jsp page is as under:-
    <jsp:useBean id="formatter" class="TimeFormatterBean"/>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
    <title>Insert title here</title>
    </head>
    <body>
         <h1> Date JSP </h1>
         <p> The  current time is:
         <%= new java.util.Date() %>
         <jsp:getProperty name="formatter" property="name"/>
         </p>
    </body>
    </html>I can see "TimeFormatterBean.class" in build/classes folder.
    If anyone could please help me out with this, it would be very helpful
    Thanks a lot!

    You probably should place TimeFormatterBean inside a package, or maybe you could try importing it , even if its in the default package, with something like this <%@ page import="TimeFormatterBean" %> at the top

  • Problems with JSP pages and BC objects

    Hi all. I have a new problem. I'm creating an application based on a database, using BC and JSP pages. I created entity objects from tables and then view objects. I put these view objects in an Application Module. When I test my view objects from This Application Module all works, but when I create a new JSP, I can't drag and drop any view objects in it. I'm using Jdev 10.1.2.
    Is there any one who can help me?
    Thank you,
    Caterina.

    I'm using the MVC pattern, so I have a Model directory that contains my BC, and a ViewController directory in which I want to create JSP pages with a Struts page flow.

  • Need serious help with JSP + JDBC/Database connection

    Hey all,
    I have to build an assignment using JSP pages. I am still pretty new and only learning through trial and error. I understand a bit now, and I have managed to get a bit done for it.
    I am having the most trouble with a Login Screen. The requirements are that the a form in a webpage has Username/Number and Password, the user clicks Login, and thats about it. The values for the username/number and password NEED to come from the database and I cannot manage to do this. The thing I have done is basically hardcode the values into the SQL statement in the .jsp file. This works, but only for that one user.
    I need it so it checks the username/number and password entered by the user, checks the database to see if they are in it, and if so, give access. I seriously am stuck and have no idea on what to do.
    I dont even know if I have made these JSP pages correct for starters, I can send them out if someone is willing to look/help.
    I have setup 3 other forms required for the assignment and they are reading data from the db and displaying within tables, I need to do this with non-hardcoded values aswell. Im pretty sure I need to use for example 'SELECT .... FROM .... WHERE username= +usrnm' (a variable instead of username="john" , this is hardcoded), I just CANNOT figure out how to go about it.
    Its hard to explain through here so I hope I gave enough info. A friend of mine gave some psuedocode i should use to make it, it seems ok to follow, its just I do not know enough to do it. He suggested:
    get the username and pass from the env vars
    open the db
    make an sql (eg SELECT user, pass FROM users WHERE user = envuser)
    index.jsp points to login.jsp
    login.jsp get the vars you put into index.jsp
    opened the db
    is the query returns nothing - then the user is wrong
    OR if the passwords dont match
    - redirect back to index.jsp
    if it does match
    - set up a session
    - redirect to mainmenu.jsp
    Anyway, thanks for any help you can give.
    -Aaron

    I didn't check the code that I wrote. So you may have to fix some part of it. Also this may not be the best solution, but it will help you to understand the process easily.
    The more efficient method is to check whether the result set returned from the database is null or not.... I hope you got the idea... Good luck!

  • Help with dynamic page layouts

    Hello JSP Gurus,
    I'm attempting to dynamically generate the page layout for my site based on the organization a user belongs to. Basically, I'd have certain resources like navigation links, graphics, etc, that are modular. Then I'd like to construct the layout using these "moduls" in a dynamic fashion. Does anyone have any suggestions on techniques or technologies that would be useful? I'm not really looking at the portal/portlet model. Is this something that Cocoon could do by storing the layout for each customer as an XML file or something? Any ideas, suggestions, experiences would be helpful.
    Thanks!

    How does Tiles differ from the JetSpeed apache
    project? They both appear to be portal-like
    frameworks, or am I incorrect about that? Which is
    preferred?Frankly, I can't give you an in-depth answer to that. Maybe someone else can help with more details.
    What I can tell you is that JetSpeed seems to be more of a real portal architecture. Emphasis is placed on the framework portion, interfacing with exisiting applications. Visual layout takes second seat to this.
    Tiles on the other hand puts more emphasis on visual layout and reuse.
    Just looking at JetSpeed's visual interfacing a little bit makes me really dislike it. You build tables and such inside of a servlet, so there's a tight coupling (or at least, much tighter than with Struts/Tiles) between the presentation and logic. (I'm basing this on a JavaWorld article at
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-07-2001/jw-0727-jetspeed.html )
    Based on your initial question, it would seem to me that tiles is much closer to what you're looking for (and likely easier to just pick up and use).
    Anyway, take all this with a grain of salt; I'm not exactly an expert on JetSpeed. =)

  • Help with JSP and logic:iterate

    I have some queries hope someone can help me.
    I have a jsp page call request.jsp:
    ====================================
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-bean.tld" prefix="bean" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-logic.tld" prefix="logic" %>
    <html>
    <body>
       <%@ page import="RequestData" %>
       <jsp:useBean id="RD" class="RequestData" />
       <%Iterator data = (Iterator)request.getAttribute("Data");%>
       <logic:iterate id="element" name="RD" collection="<%=data%>">
          <jsp:getProperty name="RD" property="requestID" />
          <%=element%><br>
       </logic:iterate>
    </body>
    </html>
    And I have the RequestData.java file:
    ======================================
    private int requestID = 1234;
    public int getRequestID() { return requestID; }
    The jsp page display:
    ======================
    0 RequestData@590510
    0 RequestData@5b6d00
    0 RequestData@514f7f
    0 RequestData@3a5a9c
    0 RequestData@12d7ae
    0 RequestData@e1666
    Seems like the requestID is not returned. Does anybody know this?
    I have done the exact one using JSP and servlets, trying to learn using JSP and custom tags. The one with JSP and servlet looks like:
    ============================================
    <%@ page import="RequestData" %>
    <%Iterator data = (Iterator)request.getAttribute("Data");
    while (data.hasNext()) {
       RequestData RD = (RequestData)data.next();
       out.println(RD.getRequestID() );
    }%>

    Oh think I got it...
    but one thing I'm not sure is...
    If I use "<jsp:useBean id="RD" class="RequestData" />", do I still need "<%@ page import="RequestData" %>"?
    I tried without and it gives me error...

    Please help me.....

    Actually you're probably off on a false trail with jsp:useBean. The more up to date methods use tag libraries (typically JSTL) and access bean attributes using EL, bean expression language. E.g. you put your initial form data into a request attribute called "data" and you put:
    <input type="text" name="property1" value="${data.property1}" ....useBean is no use for binding returned fields from a form. Always remember that your JSP generates HTML and once that HTML is sent to the browser that's it, the JSP has done it's job and finished. Only with JSF, at present, does what you write in your JSP affect the processing of received form data. When you get the form data back you need to "bind" the values from the request back to the bean. A framework like Spring will do this stuff for you, but in a raw Servlet/JSP environment it's up to you.

  • Help with jsp and servlets(litterature)

    I'm planning on converting a asp website to jsp and I need to figure out the following:
    1: servlet that gives out connection objects from a pool and manages "lost" connections to a mysql db
    2: a bean that has getConnection and closeConnection that is used on every jsp page.
    3: servlet/bean that can check size/dimesions/filetype on a remote url image
    4: Figure out what users are logged in at every given moment. result: x users are on, these are user1, user2, user3. automatic removal when session runs out. probably need a servlet for this.
    I got these books:
    deitel java how to program 3rd edition
    deitel advanced java 2 platform how to program
    The last book has a servlet and jsp section ut I suspect that java has evolved since then so thats why I'm asking if you have any other suggestions that offer more than 2 chapters. Its really basic the stuff i have :)
    Its been 3 years since I've touched java so i hope you guys can recomend jsp/servlet books that can answer these questions for me and help me get started with this project?
    Thanks :)

    1. apache dbcp commons library.
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/
    2. tomcat DataSource, which already has the dbpc logic incorporated into it.
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
    3. no idea, google may help
    4. HttpSessionBindingListener. This allows you to monitor when a bean (such as a User bean) is added to the session and when it is removed from the session. This way you can track yourself which users are online.

  • Problems with JSP-Pages in more than 1 Frame

    I have 4 Frames on my Page and every Frame is a JSP-Page. Every Page has different Data Tags, different View Objects etc.
    I could run each of the 4 Pages without getting an error-message, but after starting the Frameset-Page, I get the Error-Message:
    Error Message: JBO-27022: Failed to load value at index 1 with java object of type
    java.lang.String due to java.sql.SQLException.
    Now I press the Reload-Button of my Browser and it works !!!
    Could anyone help me ?

    Um, what am I missing? What is the work around? Is it impossible to use frames and data tag JSPs? Heino, how did you get around this problem?
    Do I have to create separate App Modules for each frame (yuck)
    Thanks!
