Help with mail APP... didnt know where else to post

Hey all,,
I am trying to utilze the Mail app with my school mail account, but I am having trouble adding the account into the program..
First and foremost I am pretty sure the account type is an IMAP cause I access my email from an online server. I am having trouble with what to put for the incoming mail server box. My email account is [email protected] and the mail website is http://manegate.lmu.edu. I tried both "lion.lmu.edu" and "manegate.lmu.edu" and neither worked... they timed out.
Anyone have any ideas??
Thanks
Erik

In visiting your school's website, it looks like it's not IMAP. It's POP3 (as I figured it would be).
The page also provides these addresses:
incoming mail server is: mail.lmu.edu
outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.lmu.edu (you must also select Authentication (Auth type: Password) and put in your username and password when you set up the SMTP server.
The rest should be pretty straight forward. HERE is the page I got the info from. Of particular interest to you is the section called "Accessing Your Mail through am Email Client".

  • Didnt know where else...

i didnt know where else to post this, so...
i thought that the bundled software from MSI that came with my videocard was worthless.  and, i guess, some of it is...  it seemed like everything on the cd's, i could find something free and better somewhere else.  well, i found out thats not entirely true.
there is one disk which has 2 fairly useful programs.  Virtual Drive and Restore IT! Professional.  the Restore IT program caught my eye, so i searched on the net about it.  a company called Farstone created it, and i looked at a comparison with the Windows XP Restore, since i'm running XP Pro.  it definitely has more features and is much more capable than the XP Restore.  so already, i was interested.  then, last week, the inevitible happened.  i messed up my system, and could not get my display drivers re-installed.  it would just not accept anything i did.  and because XP Restore was so incapable, i found myself with only one choice.  re-format my harddrive and install a fresh copy of Windows.  i was gonna have to do this eventually anyway, but i wasnt happy that i was forced to do it.
well, now, from the other side of that format, i have put this program on my system.  when it installs, it takes a chunk of your harddrive (you decide how much you want to commit) and gives it a new partition.  this partition is only viewable thru the program itself, i could not even see it in the Administrative Tools and Disk Management.  that partition is the space that is set aside for only one thing - restore point images.  no, you dont have to worry that you will have to re-format your entire harddrive, the program grabs the space you decide upon, and does that whole process itself.  everything else in Windows still has FULL functionality without having to re-do anything.
anyway.  i commited 3.8 gig to hold restore points cause i didnt have any idea how big a restore point actually is, and 3.8 is about a tenth of my total harddrive.  you can manually set the program to create a point every time Windows starts, once a day, once every X hours, or create them manually.  this is much more flexible than the XP Restore, that only creates a point when you install a program or when you manually create one on your own.  each time you install is nice, but as it often is, i dont realize that i shouldnt have done what i did until WAAAYYY after i installed something and messed around with everything else to fix it.  by then its too late.  and what happens if you get a virus?  what happens if you accidentally erase the wrong harddrive and re-format it (yeah, thats pretty inconceivable, but i'm sure its happened to someone somewhere before....in a galaxy far, far away)?  i looked at the size of my one restore piont i have so far and how much of my partition is left for more points.  it only took up 19.8mb.  i dont know if its always around that size, but if it is, thats spectacular!  we will see, and i will keep you informed.
THANKS, MSI, FOR THAT PRODUCT, I FORSEE IT SAVING MY LIFE IN THE FUTURE!

    Congatulations!
You've been elected, you've been selected!
Now go hose your config and see if it really works! JK
You can determine the size XP allocates for it's restore points on each partition, it uses the FIFO method when the size is exceeded, First In First Out. Does this proggy use the same method or will it notify you when you are reaching the allocated space limit?
Also a good time saver is the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard foound in the Programs/Sytem Tools, you can save the file(s) to a CD so when you have to reload the OS, I've used it a few times already, it's a timesaver for sure.

Forgive me, I'm not completely knowledgeable on my mac, so I don't know what airport I have, but as I've seen around here a lot of people are having problems with airport extreme. I have a Powerbook G4 i bought in 05 that is having a difficult time connecting to my router. it is a netgear WPN824 router. I don't know if that mac has Airport extreme or not, so I was hoping you could tell me so I knew how to approach the problem. I think there's a problem with my router because not only can my mac not connect, but my ps3 and psp also cannot.
We get signal throughout the house, but we cant get online other than on my imac desktop. Is there ANY help i can get? I have looked around the other posts about similar problems, but I didnt get any information that worked for me. please help. I dont want to call Geek Squad and get raped in prices.

Second step. Make sure all of your Macs are running the latest version of the OS - 10.5.5 (You tag line shows 10.5.3)
    Best way to do this:
Open Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions
Download the 10.5.5 updater from http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_5_ComboUpdate
Open and run the 10.5.5 Combo Updater.
Restart the Mac then Open Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions again.
If you have already used Software Update to update your systems to 10.5.5, it is still a good idea to run the Combo updater. Apparently it does a better job with fewer glitches than the SU incremental updater.
If those two steps don't work, post in this forum: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1222
    Hope that helps.

  • I don't know where else to post this. iTunes Remote Application

I know they have the application "Remote" so you can control iTunes from your iPod Touch or iPhone, but is there an application that you can control your iPod Touch or iPhone from your iTunes? I see this useful because right now my computer is a laptop, therefore anytime I'm listening to music on it, I'm usually right there, no need for the remote application. But I see it as if my iPod were in a docking station or stereo, it would make sense to have an application that runs on your computer, that you can control your iPod right from your computer, or atleast like a play/pause, skip, volume type thing.

Could you please copy/paste the link where this video that doesn't work is supposed to appear on? Perhaps we can see if this problem is limited to your settings, or is an actual server issue.

  • Powerbook making bad squeaking sound...don't know where else to post.. hlp

    Dear Forum,
This powerbook g4 1.25 2g ram, 15" alumninum, hard drive failed 3 weeks ago, I replaced it. Now, there is a new noise coming from somewhere in there. It only starts when I am downloading something, and the graph screen on safari shows the status bar filling up indicating the progress...and it also makes this sqeaking abbrasive sound when, for example, I am in iMovie3 hd, and i use the feature far far away, which generates "star wars" like scrolling on the screen. Out from the computer comes this bad abbrasive sound. Not good.
Can someone tell me what it is?
Id like to try to fix it myself from ifixit.com.
    Thanks,

Yes using Virtual PC on your G4 PowerBook.
The new MacBooks can not run Virtual PC, however can dual boot with Windows XP SP2 and if the DOS applications can run on XP SP2 then you will be able to run them.

  • Don't know where else to post...

This is strange....I have been using a Mophie Juice Air battery case on my iphone 3G. It uses a microUSB cable to connect for power, etc. I have been using a generic microUSB car charger to charge this case and phone for some time now. No problems.
I just got a 3GS. Using my Mophie case on it now, which is no problem. Phone will still charge with the Mophie cable to the computer, but NOT with the car charger - when I plug it in I get a pop-up message on the phone saying 'this device is not compatible'. Why is that? It's just a charger for the case? I am not connecting anything strange to the phone itself?
Mind you, the car charger has no compatibility promises on the package, other than that it works with several Motorola phones and some others. But it shouldn't matter....it's the only MicroUSB car charger I could find, so it should power anything that has MicroUSB, such as the Mophie Juice Air. So now if I wanna charge the phone in the car I have to take it out of the case and use an iPhone car charger (which I hope will work now, as I haven't tried it yet.)

  • Don't know where else to post this, Can you run the old MS DOS on a Mac?

The company I work for is a PC based invironment. I can of course get around most of that but there is one huge stumbling block.
Believe it or not, the company is still using an old MS DOS application to look up orders over the network.
Is there currently anyway to run a DOS program of my PowerBook G4? If not will these new MacBooks be able to?
    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,
    I'm using a Power Mac G5 1.6 gHZ, 80 gig drive. 1G of memory.
I don't know where else to post this, so if everyone can bare with me.
I have iLife '05 on my computer. I'm trying to upgrade to iLife '06. I can't even get the DVD to install the software onto my computer. I get to the point of registering and then receive a message that there was an error and to try installing again. I don't know what to do now.

    Hi Mike,
I'm moving my question to the location that Jeff suggested. I don't have another computer to try the disk in, however, since I've tried installing the iLife disk, I'm having problems trying to install completely different software.

  • Having trouble with mail.app always cc'ing myself

Having trouble with mail.app always reply all is cc'ing myself. Solution was to add another address under the account so that it recoginzes aliases as well as the primary account that you are sending from. Then it will recognize all the addresses and aliases associated with the account.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—again, the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • I don't know where else to ask this: Quick Question about Logic Platinum 6

    Hi everyone,
This question actually pertains to a copy of Logic Platinum 6 I own but I don't know where else to ask it, so here I am in the Logic 8 forum.
I haven't touched Logic in a year or maybe two, and I just installed it on my computer and after attempting to start it up with two different XS keys (I thought I lost one so I have a replacement and I forget which one is the active one) it says "no XS key found" to both of them.
I want to upgrade to Logic 8 but in the mean time I can't even get Logic 6 to recognize my XS key.
Please help me out if you have any information that would be beneficial or know where I could seek help!
    Thank you!
    Colin C.

When you plugin them in, are they recognised in System Profiler? Try differnt ports, connecting them directly and not on a hub. Try on a different computer if necessary.

  • Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac. Tried every settings, My iCloud only works with Mail.app

Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac or any other Mac. My iCloud will only work with Mail.app. All the clients I tried work perfectly well as long as I sign in with somebody else's iCloud account. But mine won't work no matter the client (Postbox, Unibox, Airmail...) and no matter the computer.
I can access my account on iCloud.com, but I can't use email clients without getting error messages prompting me to check my password or login.
I was able to use those clients in the past but a couple of months ago I got logged out of Airmail and the issue started just like that!
I tried every possible mail server settings including the following:
IMAP information for the incoming mail server
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 993
Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])
    Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker)
    Password: Your iCloud password

Those are the correct settings, and they work with any email client that supports Imap.
    Try again.

I cannot send.  I have been at this for hours and hours and hours.  Here are the details.
my mail server however is s1.sistercompany.net
I can receive email just fine.  I can also send mail just find having set this up on my iphone and also in thunderbird (which i hate hate hate hate hate hate hate, which is why I am desperate to set up mail)
The settings in thunderbird are as follows:
    Servername: s1.sistercompany.net
    port: 465
    Authentication method:  normal password
    Connection Security:  SSL/TLS
However, I just can't get this to work in Mail.  When I write an email and hit send I get a popup that says:
Cannot send message using the server s1.sistercompany.net
The certifcate for this server is invalid.
Now, my tech guy says yeah the certifacte is invalid because you are going through sistercompany server, there should be some way to just accept the certifcate anyway (but he has never used mail before).
So I have serached around and come up with this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11706
Which tells me to use the verify certificate dialogue, which I would do except there is no verify certificate dialog.  Any thoughts?

  • Confusion with mail.app and Gmail using imap

I've had a yahoo.com email address for years, and pay for Mail Plus and POP3, which I frankly don't even use. Now that I've confirmed, however, that I can successfully forward emails from my yahoo box to my new gmail box, I'd like to look into setting up mail.app for the gmail account using imap. Like most people, I access my mail from several places (home & work computers, Touch, and others), and imap makes sense as the right way to go.
Last night I tried to set things up on mail.app on the Mac, and boy was it confusing in terms of the folders, etc. Is there someplace someone can point me for a sort of "beginner's guide to setting up Gmail/imap with mail.app"? Hopefully this "guide" would give me some hints on setting up various rules, etc. that would allow me to have a setup that makes sense: only one copy of emails, sent items in the sent items folder, etc.
One more thing: can I set up Gmail/imap with more than one email client? For example, can I use mail.app at home and Thunderbird on the Windows computer in my office? And how is the creation of new folders (or labels, I guess, as Gmail calls them) on the web handled by mail.app (or Thunderbird)? I'm guessing that a new label created on Gmail on the web doesn't automatically result in a folder being created in mail.app (or Thunderbird), or does it? If this is correct (no folder created in mail.app until I create it on the Mac), is the message that was moved to a folder on the web found in mail.app in the All Messages folder (or whatever it's called)?
Sorry for the basic nature of these questions...this all seems pretty complicated, and I'd like to get it right the first time. Thanks.

BTW Thanks for the "head's up" that GMail now supports IMAP (I've been waiting for it!)
I'm not sure what your confusion is, other than maybe the confusion between how folders and messages work in Outlook versus Apple Mail and IMAP. I've used both, and several other mail programs over the years.
IMAP permits you to have directories which contain message folders. I make the distinction, because Outlook allows you to message folders which contain messages AND other message folders. I believe most implementations of IMAP do not allow messages inside of directories. Thus, a directory looks like a message folder, but it may only contain message folders, and not individual messages.
Now, GMail appears to create message folders for each label you define in GMail, and messages which have several labels appear in each folder. If you copy the folders to your computer, you WILL have multiple copies of those messages, however if you leave them on the server, GMAIL does all the work and you only have one copy of each message.
Special folders in GMail are all located in the directory [Gmail] and include the message folders "All Mail", "Drafts", "Sent Mail", "Spam", "Starred" and "Trash". Notice I say "directory" and not "message folder" for "[Gmail]". That is important.
I cannot attest as to what GMail does when you create a folder from your mail.app client, as I have not done that yet. I would venture a guess that it will define a GMail label and mark any messages you "move" to that folder with that label. The GMail special folder "All Mail" contains all of your mail messages, and is equivalent to selecting "All Mail" when using the web interface.
Your inbox messages will appear in the section with all of your inboxes at the top of your mailbox list. Make sure that you set your preferences to match the recommended preferences for Apple Mail when setting up your GMail account. Otherwise you will end up with duplicates and/or a lot of unnecessary data transfers to your Mac.
Hope this helps. If not, please give a more explicit example of something that doesn't work the way you expect.

  • Notes Synching With Mail.app -- Unwanted

Following my update to Snow Leopard, all of a sudden the Notes from my iPhone (OS 3.1) started showing up in my email. I do not want Notes syncing with Mail.app. How does one turn this "feature" off?
I have searched through the iPhone settings in iTunes, the settings panel in the iPhone, MobileMe prefs, Mail.app prefs, several System prefs and looked through a bunch of threads here. Lots of talk about synching Notes but most of it prior to Snow Leopard and nothing about killing it. (In case the order makes any difference, the phone went to 3.0 then the Mac to SL then the phone to 3.1.)

Info pane at the bottom, uncheck the Sync notes box.
