Help with microphone

Heys guys i thought my mac mic was broken, i purchased a hp headset and webcam but the mic in isnt powered or somthing like that i read, is there anyway to fix this, or my other alternative is i buy a bluetooth mobile phone headset, yet do they all tend to work with macs?

The problem is that the mini's audio input isn't amplified, so the relatively cheap range of microphones won't work, while those with their own pre-amplification will. The Griffin iMic mentioned is an excellent device that should do the trick, though almost any USB headset will also work. A BT headset should also work of course, but the cost is far higher than more reliable, wired, solutions!

TS2634 My iphone headphones with microphone don't work. Any suggestions?

My iphone headphones with microphone have stopped working, and they are under warranty. I am having difficulty getting an answer about what to do from Apple - just got off the phone with them, and they emailed me an article that was of no help at all. Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I have a ATT Uverse (for my internet access) acct and could not log on so I requested for password reset. They sent me temp password and I had to change my password to my Uverse acct. I use my att.net email as the log on for my Uverse acct. Per att instructions above, my Uverse acct is linked to my att.net email, so now my att.net email pw has been changed to the pw for my Uverse acct.
Accordingly, go into your iPhone Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose your Att.net mail acct and change your password. In my case I changed it to the new pw I had set up for my Uverse acct and it works.
Before doing this, I had also added new servers as shown below. The way I see it because your iPhone will try in succession to log on to each server from top to bottom of the list, it's best to add all the mail servers.
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.att.net
outbound.att.net
Please note that I did not have to add "imap.mail.att.net" and my Att.net mail on my iPhone still works.

Problems with microphone during calls. Person who communicates not hear me. If you stickyour finger in the little back room I heard for a while and then disappears. I tried restore to no avail. How can I fix it?

Need help with applications

i am new to mac and i am having some issues. first, where do i find my programs? i just got my mac laptop yesterday with iwork supposildy preinstalled, but i cant find it. well i find an icon with it in applicatins after i had to search the computer for it, but it wont open. it doesnt do anything when i click on it. then i am try to do things in ical and someone told me about a blue button i am suppose to have when i highlight the event, but nothing comes up and i cant delete a calendar i accidentally made. i highlght it on the left and hit "delete' but nothing happends. i read over the turorials for ical and it seems i am missing some buttons. also i am trying to go from day view to weekly and the buttons arent working at the top, either is the today button and the current view is for friday. is something already messed up on my new laptop?

I am thinking that if this is a problem with the program, I am thinking that you have a chance to call Apple, and they can either fix the program for free, or give you a brand new macbook.
Since you are new, I can help you. Macs somehow are a little more advanced than Windows, because you cannot encounter a virus made for windows. If a virus was to come, it has a high chance to NEVER and I mean NEVER coming into your computer system and destroy your computer. It has to be able to adapt to the programs that Apple has made, and since windows viruses are not compatible with macs they unfortunately will never destroy your motherboard.
Thats just to tell you, that you don't have to worry about viruses.
You have to worry about that, you have to be careful on what you do on the internet, there are things that can crash your computer. Thats why, it is better to be using Firefox, you can use the version 2.0.1 or 3.0.
The new version of firefox is nearly the same as the other version 2.0.1.
Firefox is a lot better, because.
1. it is safer and 3rd party cookies and other people are not able to see it.
2. You can modify what you want. The history can be deleted automatically, when you quit firefox (apple Q)
3. Nearly everyone who uses Macs, and Windows, can use it, and if you use firefox on a windows, it is the same, there are very high possibilities, that viruses will not be able to break through.

I feel that I should PROBABLY tell you more, if you don't mind.
Like if you want to have msn on your mac. DON'T EVER and I mean DON'T EVER download a version of msn that is under the file of EXE. Mac is not compatible with the .exe files. The best thing you can actually go to, is to the apple download site that one that you are on now, but just click on downloads.

Don't worry, viruses will not be able to come in either. Although the only down poor is that, the mac messenger does NOT have WEBCAM, NO offline messaging, and you CAN'T make microphone chat, or the webcam with microphone chat.. you have to find another program that lets you do that. I use a different type of messenger. Yahoo, you cannot use the webcam for people who are using windows messenger on your yahoo messenger.
You have to also know that, you can use msn2go.com for messenger when your at a cafe, libraries, municipal airports, mall if possible, nearly EVERYWHERE you can use wireless. It also comes with gigabyte ethernet.
You might think that wireless is more secure, well it's not. You have to secure the router and put a password on it if you don't want people to get onto the internet, or as people say Hijack or backpack.
Also you can go to system preferences and go to security, and then there are three tabs. General, fire vault, and firewall. You should just click on the General tab, and click the first one that says DISABLE AUTOMATIC LOGIN. That means that when you setup your password when you did a first boot up, you now do not have to worry about people trying to get into your laptop. So that means when you turn on your laptop, and now you will have your own account, and a guest account if possible, so then now you have to enter your password, and then you will be able to login.
If you close your lid, your computer will go to sleep, and then when you open up the laptop lid, then you will have to enter your password to. So then you will be able to login... I would not recommend your password being Kelly and your last name in it... put something that you can really remember, and something that is easy like an easy word

Hi, i've got the X-Fi Fatalty Titanium Soundcard since last day and im really happy about that soundcard.
But......
Ive gotta real problem now.. when i starting a voice program like Teamspeak 3 or ICQ / X-Fire whatever..
my voice is crunshing, sounds like overdri'ved. i tried every settings on that drivers but it wont work.. and the best is.. when i start to listen myself on windows to check how my voice is on it.. it is clear and fine. Only on Voice Tools are this crap sound.. i really dont know anymore what i can do also to smash the card outta my window..
what i've tried :
All Driver / Stuff deinstalled.. cleaned with Driver Sweeper / Driver Cleaner Pro and TuneUp Registry Cleaner
and i've tried the old stuff on CD inclusi've the latest Driver for my OS (Windows XP Professional x64) "2.7.0007"
it dont work.. got the same bug
i've tried the Final Edition of Pax Drivers 200 Suit... and same thing....
at last i've tried the latest driver 2.7.0007 with the latest Console Center "2.6.09" but also.. the sound on Voice Tools always craped again..
and i got on Games like Call of Duty 4 always some sound bugs like a shot is repeat or some other sound is repeat or strange cut.
this all makes me really sad...
i would be looking forward if anyone here got a idea how to fix this problem..

FRe: Bugs with Microphone (X-Fi Soundcard) on Voice Tools (Teamspeak 3)?so... i keeped this settings as ussualy for the future for other guys they got maybe the same problems with voicetools and microphone settings on X-Fi cards..
i installed the actuallay driver settings and all programs for the X-Fi..
after that i restart my PC and going into the BIOS and activated my Onboardsoundcard.
when i start my windows again i installed the HD Realtek Drivers and Programs... after restart i choose on System--> Audio etc..
Soundinput ---> Realtek
Soundoutput ---> X-Fi
now it works for me great.. i got no Microphone bugs anymore on Voicetools and also i got a really really great sound from the X-Fi on Games and Music.
I hope i have some guys help with this art of solving that problem.. sry but i've tryied 0 different ways of Driver settings and i tryied Daniel_K Drivers / Pax Drivers and old Creative Drivers... nothing solved my problems..
oh and of course if u got some noise sounds like a pipe sound but really high and not really loud just like u can hear what the Computer is working inside your headset.. make the newest Creative Drivers on it.. there must be a new setting who Mute this sounds.. i got no signals anymore in my headset how the PC is work.. all is silence when i do nothing.. its really chilled

oh.. and thx for "no" support after all in the last 2 Days here..

Help with recording voice

I would like to use garage band to record voice tracks of up to an hour long. I have a USB lLogitech headset with microphone, which appears in the GB preferences. I have checked the voice input on the System Preferences and turned it up and checked that the sound from the mike is registering. But it doesn't seem to be registering on garage band and nor is it recording. I read the GB help and turned on the little red thing in the track control panel, but nothing.
I'm stuck.
Any ideas?

The problem is likely the compression that the station is doing to the stream for transmission... you might not be able to "fix" it the right way without looking at what they are doing to it, because if you send them OK audio, and it's monitored OK in FCP, but sounds bad over the air or whatever, then it's in THEIR court actually. But the EQ filters in FCP or Soundtrack Pro could be used to make your voice crisper sounding. Find the audio frequency of your voice and raise the highs and lower the lows a bit with those EQ filters. It's all real time too, so not hard to figure out. Try starting with the "Final Cut Pro" 3 Band Equalizer... just play with the settings during playback, and you'll see what it does... or for a further explanation, type "3 Band Equalizer" in the search box of the online help menu's User's manual.

Help with a Flash project im attempting

need a little help with the direction of where i want to go
with a flash app im trying to make. What it is that im doing is an
prototype application for a treasure hunt. (The prototype is so
that it can be used on a hand held PDA) the specification are
below:
A Treasure Hunt provides participants with clues which leads
them to discover a route and requires them to answer questions
along the way. Answers are scored as follows:
Correct answers 10 points
After 1 hint 5 points
After 2 hints 2 points
Incorrect answers -2 points
The 2nd hint gives the exact position on the map so that the
participant can keep to the route and not get lost.
I am going to design a Flash application (for the Flash 6
player only) which will run on a mobile device (PDA) with Windows
Mobile 2003 as the operating environment with a small screen
240x320 pixel resolution either portrait or landscape and 65K
colour depth. The device has a pointing device (stylus),
microphone, speaker and earphone socket. It is WiFi enabled to take
advantage of WiMax which will enable mobile devices to access the
internet over a wide geographic area such as a town.
I have considered providing the following functionality:
· Setup options eg: choose the Treasure Hunt from
alternatives, language options, accessibility options such as voice
output (could simulate voice command input)
· Present clues as either text or image (could simulate
voice output)
· Provide access to the internet eg: Google for
searching for information
· Keep a record of the score and allow participant to
keep track
· Present progress along the route on the map
–needs zoom in/out and/or scroll
· Save progress if a pause is needed
· Total time taken
· Provision for one or more sponsoring
organisation’s advert/logo (doesn’t have to be on
screen all the time)
Now ive been trying to think for the last couple of days what
the best way to create this is, but im having a really big mental
block on it. Now im not the best at flash, so it need only be a
basic application. I know how im going to do the map and then
language changes but thats about it at the moment.
So can anyone give me any advice on how to go about creating
this sort of thing, if you could give me any information, and where
would be the best place to start - i'd appreciate it greatly!

Thinking about it, (its late) because its only a prototype
that i have to create, it doesn't necessarily have to work, im only
just showing examples of what it can do so all of those features do
not have to work correctly. That sounds about right doesn't it? lol

Problems with microphone sound in iChat

(I already thought I sent this but I didn't see it as a new topic, so I am trying again). I'm new to this discussion thing, it's my first time so I hope I've submitted this correctly.
I have similar, but extended and more complicated problems with "microphone sound in iChat". (Sorry, this email is a bit lenghty becuase I have already done a lot of my homework on trouble shooting this.)
I began by using iChat with a high impedance microphone (from an old 1970'scassette player) PLUGGED DIERCTLY IN THE THE MICROPHONE INPUT on the back of my G4 tower. (I DO NOT have a video camera). My Mom in Canada can hear me okay on it, only if I "eat" the microphone. (My Mom DOES have a video camera).
SO I BOUGHT AN iMic. I also bought a new condenser mic to go with my new iMic. I plugged iMic in and adjusted the sound preferences selection. I switched the iMic to "Mic". It did not work. The old cassette mic did not work at all with iMic either. My Mom could not hear me, and my "VU METER bar levels" on my iChat were not registering. (If I plug the condenser mic directly into the tower, Mom can hear me only if I "eat" the condenser microphone).
Next, with iMic, I wanted to try my Shure 58 microphone instead. My friend (who is an audio tech) made me a 1/8" to XLR (sheilded) cable. I made sure I had adjusted the sound preferences and switched the iMic to "Mic". The Shure 58 did not work with iMic. It also did not work plugging directly into the tower.
Next, with iMic, I wanted to try my "Plantronics telephone headset". My friend (the audio tech) then made me a 1/8"male to 1/8"mini feamle (sheilded) cable. My headset did not work with iMic. It also did not work plugging directly into the tower.
My friend, the audio tech, then made me second cable 1/8"male to 1/8"female (sheilded) cable. This cable I had him make 50 feet long so I could move to other areas in my home while audio chatting - so I don't have to be trapped in my office while talking. We ran the cable from iMic to the Old cassette mic and the new condenser mic. They did not work with iMic.
We also tried plugging the new 50ft cable directly into the back of the G4 Tower and it worked with the old cassette mic and the new condenser mic, BUT the volume was reduced and there was a loud baseball game being broadcast through the cable - according to my Mom. I could not hear anything from my end - not my own voice and not the baseball game! IS THERE A WAY FOR ME TO MONITOR (actually hear) THE SOUND THAT SHOULD BE COMING THROUGH THE MIC?
I have tried to trouble shoot these issues on line, but can't seem to find the right solutions. In one of your discussions I read that you suggested to select the iChat preference for Video and select microphone. I CANNOT SEE THE FULL WINDOW UNDER iChat Video Preferences!!!! All I can see is the top half of a large empty box that says "There is no camera attached to this computer". (That's because I have no camera, but I DO HAVE a microphone).
I also found some support about adjusting microphone levels using iMovie. I do not have iMovie on my Mac.
Yes, I have already adjusted the AUDIO MIDI SETUP settings.
My audio tech friend and I are both baffled. iMic is useless to me so far - perhaps you can help to get me up and chatting properly? Do I really need iMovie and/or a video camera to fix this???
BY THE WAY: When I plug my external speakers into iMic and select iMic in preferences for output, my speakers and sound is very inferior to the using the speaker terminal on my tower. i Mic is supposed to better???????

A funny thing just happened...
The iChat prefernce window for "VIDEO" finally opened (!!) all the way, so for the FIRST TIME EVER and I was able to see the microphone setting at the bottom of the window. (Because I have NO CAMERA, the window would never fully open before during the 100 or so times I tried to get it to open before. This must've been a fluke because now it won't fully open again).
While it was open I set the microphone setting to iMic, plugged my condenser mic into iMic and IT WORKED. Then I tried the long (baseball game) extension cord in the iMic (attached to the condenser mic) and IT WORKED TOO - with NO BASEBALL GAME!
I still have to have the condenser mic right up to my mouth, which shouldn't be - but considering I have spent a few weeks trying to troubleshoot this, "eating the mic" is only a minor annoyance at this point.
I just plugged my speakers into iMic and THEY WORK GREAT!
SO ALL MY PROBLEMS WERE BECAUSE: I could not set the microphone under Video in iChat preferences because the VIDEO PREFERENCE WINDOW DOES NOT FULLY OPEN WITHOUT A CAMERA ATTACHED. If it hadn't opened by fluke my iMic would still not be working.
I guess I'm all set now. Unless you have a suggestion why the condenser mic isn't picking up my voice from other than right by my mouth? It should be able to be a foot or two away at least.

Rosetta Stone headset with microphone

I just purchased Rosetta Stone a month ago and I'm using on my Macbook Air for the first time. What do I have to do in order to be able to hear on my headset with microphone while using Rosetta Stone program? I can currently speak to the program (it hears me just fine) but I can't hear it through the headset. I can only hear it externally from the speaker and its very annoying. I am extremely new to Apple products and I don't have a clue. Please help!

Skype interferes with microphone settings

I discovered the hard way that using Skype interferes with microphone settings in such a way that ViaVoice no longer recognizes the sound input device. It may affect other applications as well, I am not sure. I posted this issue back in July in a thread titled ViaVoice/Tiger, but no one had a solution at that time. After months of tinkering, emailing ScanSoft (no clue) and being very frustrated, I finally found the answer. I wanted to post it in its own thread to be sure people see it. Here is the fix:
After hours of trying different ways to get ViaVoice to work again after using Skype, I discovered this simple procedure:
1. Quit Skype
2. Go to System Preferences/Sound/Input
3. Select an input source *other than* the one you want to use with ViaVoice.
4. Launch ViaVoice SetupAssistant and click through the steps until you get the error message "It appears microphone is not connected .... "
5. Minimize all open apps so you can see the ViaVoice window, and select Quit ViaVoice
6. Now go back to System Preferences and change the input source back to the mic you want to use
7. ViaVoice will now function normally until the next time you use Skype, at which point it will break again.

Help with if statement in cursor and for loop to get output

I have the following cursor and and want to use if else statement to get the output. The cursor is working fine. What i need help with is how to use and if else statement to only get the folderrsn that have not been updated in the last 30 days. How do I incorporate a if else statement in the above cursor so the two days less than 30 days since last update are not returned. I do not want to send email if the project have been updated within the last 30 days.

I need help with Sunbird Calendar, how can I transfer it from one computer to the other and to my iphone?

I installed Sunbird in one computer and my calendar has all my infos, events, and task that i would like to see on another computer that i just downloaded Sunbird into. Also, is it possible I can access Sunbird on my iphone?

I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud 2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel. I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.” After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar? Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue? Thanks much in advance!

Help with HP Laser Printer 1200se

Really need your assistance. I have tried both contacting HP by phone (told they no longer support our printer via phone help), the tech told me that I needed to contact HP by e-mail for assistance. I then sent an e-mail for assistance and got that reply today, the reply is as follows "Randall, unfortunately, HP does not offer support via e-mail for your product. However many resources are available on the HP web site that may provide the answer to your inquiry. Support is also available via telephone. A list of technical support numbers can be round at the following URL........." The phone numbers listed are the ones I called and the ones that told me I needed to contact the e-mail support for help.
So here I am looking for your help with my issue.
We just bought a new HP Pavillion Slimline Desk Top PC (as our 6 year old HP Pavillion PC died on us). We have 2 HP printers, one (an all-in-one type printer, used maily for copying and printing color, when needed) is connected and it is working fine with the exception of the scanning option (not supported by Windows 7). However we use our Laser Printer for all of our regular prining needs. This is the HP LaserPrinter 1200se, which is about 6 years old but works really well. For this printer we currently only have a parallel connection type cord and there is not a parallel port on the Slimline HP PC. The printer also has the option to connedt a USB cable (we do not currently have this type of cable).
We posed the following two questions:
1. Is the Laser Jet 1200se compatible with Windows 7?
and if this is the case
2. Can we purchase either a) a USC connection cord (generic or do we need a printer specific cord)? or b) is there there a printer cable converter adapater to attach to our parallel cable to convert to a USB connection?
We do not want to purchase the USB cable if Windows 7 will not accept the connection, or if doing this will harm the PC.
We really would appreciate any assitance that you might give us.

Sorry, both cannot be enabled by design. That said, devices on a network do not care how others are connected. You can print from a wireless connection to a wired (Ethernet) printer and v/v.
