Help with NetBeans 4.0

Hello - I was wondering if there is anyone here who knows the inside of the Netbeans IDE pretty well. I'm using it at work where all our software is installed on a network. The network drive which it is installed and running off of we do not have write access to.
Well I notice problems where I was unable to add libraries as well as for some reason it kept saying missing junit library. Another problem is I tried to switch from JDK 1.4 to JDK 1.5 but when I did it still didn't recognize some of the new code features such as the foreach command.
Well I was wondering if I copied the install directory over to a drive I can write to would this solve the problem? Is there anything that I would have to modify in the directory to make sure everything is pointing correctly? Also how do I fix the code insight when switching to JDK 1.5?
I know this sucks - I haven't received admin rights yet to install locally so this is the best I can do for now.
Thanks,
Dan

anyone?I'm pretty sure that Netbeans 4.0 did not have full support for JDK1.5. You have to move to Netbeans 4.1 .
p.s. In my opinion, Netbeans 4.0 was unusable.

  • Need Help With NetBeans (Java Studio Enterprise 8)'s code generation

    Hi!
    I am using Java Studio Enterprise 8 with NetBeans 4.1 IDE bundled together with it. When trying to create GUI out from NetBeans Form Designer, I don't like the way it generates the code. When I try to use a JTextField, it uses "Fully Qualifed Class Names" (e.g: javax.swing.JTextField) on the code. How do I set NetBeans not to use it but rather use only the class name and generate import lines on top of the code? Also, how do I set it up that it will generate the variable declarations (which is on the uneditable blue portion of the code) on top rather than the default which is placed at the bottom of the class code body. I have tried tweaking the Options menu of this IDE but haven't got any luck...
    Hope you could help, and thanks in advance!

    To address the location of the var decl codegen section (or any codegen location issues), there is a workaround, admittedly, it is a bit tedious.
    Once the form code is generated, as Kris mentioned, open the class in an external editor so that you can edit the generated code.
    Then cut the entire var declaration section along with the begin/end gen-code markers and paste it to the section of the file you desire.
    When you add more components to your form, the codegen will find this section wherever it is and add to it.
    Alternatively, you could just move the non-protected code around the protected within the NB editor, but you would not be able to rearrange the order of the actual code-genned sections.

  • I'm new to java and I need some quick help with NetBeans.

    Hi. To whomever can help here's the problem. I've been trying to install netbeans ide 5.0 on my computer for a while now and i can't seem to find out what is wrong. I'm in a java programming course and i need the J2SE Developement Kit 5.0 Update 7 and NetBeans IDE 5.0 Installer on my comp. Whenever i go to install it, it can't automatically create a directory and has erroe null in place of it. Whenever i made a new directory for it a page would come up telling me all of the errors during the installation which are null. Since i have administrator privelages and plenty of free space on my hardrive.

    Hi,
    I want to suggest you that
    1.please check if any prerequisite is require before installing the NetBeans IDE,i hope there is nothing like that except proper jdk on your machine.
    2.if you already having JDK on your machine check for the compatibility of that jdk version with the required NetBeans IDE version.
    3.follow the steps provided to install the NetBeans IDE 5.0 for that refer the below link
    http://www.netbeans.org/community/releases/50/install.html
    hope you will get rid of the problem .....

  • Need help!!!! GUI problems with netbeans

    i have a problem with the interface i created using netbeans.
    i created a JFrame, inside it a JDesktopPane, and inside that 3 JInternalFrames. the problem is in one of the JinternalFrames, i have 4 radio buttons which i forgot to add to a buttongroup and whenever i try to do that, the GUI doesn't work anymore. The bigger problem is that if i undo the changes, the thing still doesn't work and i have to copy my backup project folder over the one i work on to get an output.
    i tried to edit the source code to add the 4 buttons to a button group but netbeans won't let me since i created the buttons thru it not by writing it myself
    please i really need help with this and i hope its a stupid thing i'm just overlooking.
    If u need the code, i will gladly post it.
    thanks in advance

    if you're not using a netbeans-specific layout manager, copy the working code
    into notepad, make the changes, then compile and run from the command prompt.
    if all works OK, dump netbeans

    -MikeHi Mike,
    Even I got a similar error message inspite of trying to re-install atleast 10 times! So I gave up and did this:
    1) I downloded J2SE SDK 1.4.2 seperately.
    2) I then downloded JPad Pro IDE (latest version).
    Now both are working really fine for me. :-) Could'nt be bothered to try again and again.
    Its up to you if you want to get the NetBeans installation done but all I wanted was a good IDE and the latest version of the JDK. I have been using it for the last 3 days and it is working perfectly fine!
    Regards :-)

    hi guys,
    I really need ur help with this.
    I have a remote session bean that retrieves a list of books from the database using entity class and I call the session bean from a web service. The problem is that when i display the books in a jsp directly from the session bean everything works ok but the problem comes when I call the session bean via the web service than it throws this:
    Exception Description: An attempt was made to traverse a relationship using indirection that had a null Session. This often occurs when an entity with an uninstantiated LAZY relationship is serialized and that lazy relationship is traversed after serialization. To avoid this issue, instantiate the LAZY relationship prior to serialization.

    Yes i have a relationship but i didnt want it to be directly. Maybe this is a design problem but in my case I dont expect any criminals to be involved in lawsuit. My tables are like that:

         PRIMARY KEY (criminal_id)
    ENGINE=INNODB;
    CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Lawsuit(

  • How to start java applet with netbeans 6.1

    hey,
    I want to learn how to start java applet (with database) with netbeans.. I'm new to java...can you show me how can i start..if you have any doc about it can you send it to me..thank you..:)

    You really should be asking this NetBeans question at the NB site - these forums are for Java language topics, not NB support.
    [http://www.netbeans.org/kb/61/web/applets.html]
    Almost any NB question you have can be answered by either the NB web documentation or the NB program's Help.

  • Please Help.  NetBeans IDE Problem + rt.jar.  Trouble compiling MIDlets.

    Hi all. For the past few weeks I have undertaken learning Java for mobile devices. I am having a slight problem with NetBeans 5.5 which I would appreciate help in fixing.
    Currently installed on my system:-
    - Wireless Toolkit 2.5
    - NetBeans IDE 5.5 + Mobility Pack
    - j2sdk1.4.2_13
    - jdk1.6.0
    - jre1.6.0
    - javaee sdk5_02
    (So pretty much every Java application!)
    Now the problem. Basically, if I import the following at the beginning for my MIDlet...
    import java.io.*;
    import java.text.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.sql.*;... the java.sql has red line underneath saying "package does not exist". Now, what I found is that I need to import .jar files into the Library section. I managed to fix the javax.servlet package and some others, by importing the correct .jar files, but I found that to remove the red line for java.sql I need rt.jar.
    However, this is located under one of my jre folders and not the j2me / jdk folders I have. Even though it removes the red line, when I compile the project I keep receiving "PREVERIFY" errors and "CONSTANT POOL" errors.
    Yet, if I remove the rt.jar file, these go away, but it won't compile then because it says the package is missing (back to square one!).
    So, any ideas please??? I have spent days and days just adding random .jar files to try and fix the problem but to no avail. An example of current imported .jar files in NetBeans:-
    - rt.jar
    - midpapai.zip
    - jdbc.jar
    - servlet.jar
    - runtime12.jar
    - classes12.jar
    - ojdbc.jar
    Try not to be too technical, I've only just started out. Lol. Thanks in advance!!

    well... J2ME world is quite diffirent from usual Java. Actually you will not be able to use much of the staff, that you have imported, including java.io.* (it will be only available in CDC), java.servlet.*, java.servlet.http.*, java.sql.*
    So don't even try to find where are those packages are located....
    Try from simple tutorial like:
    http://developers.sun.com/techtopics/mobility/midp/articles/wtoolkit/
    Or from documentation on Netbeans.org:
    http://www.netbeans.org/kb/trails/mobility.html

    2. what causes this problem and how can i avoid it.
    By the way im using netbeans 6.5 and derby database

    By understanding what the application/system is supposed to be doing and the correctly creating indexes on the database that reflect the business needs.
    Once you do that then the nature of the indexes that are needed are obvious.
    You certainly don't delete indexes without that understanding however.

  • Problem with netbeans IDE

    hey! i am a learner of j2se 5.0 and am horrible at command line compiling. so i use netbeans IDE and well it has been doing excellently till now.
    recently i had a porblem with ImageIcons and i found the exact problem which i was having but with repect to applets , that is, the images were not displaying properly. i have managed to solve the problem as far as applets are concerned, but it is not so with applications.
    the thing is when i use the run function of the IDE, it displays all icons perfectly and its as if nothing is wrong.
    it creates a .jar file which when i separately click to execute by going to its folder, does so but does not display any images. In fact it executes and behaves in such a way that it's exactly as if i have not used icons in the program- it displays everything else. should i change some setting of the IDE? but if some setting is to be changed, y is it running normally when run from the IDE( F6 key).
    also when i used the command line (after some research to learn to use it) to extract all files from the .jar file, all the images were in it!!!as well as all the class files. so i can't even say that the IDE has not bundled up the images into the .jar file.
    could some1 please help??i need help with .jar files and not applets.

    first i deefined a method as shown in the Java tutorial
    ImageIcon icon =createImageIcon("lion.jpg","name");
    ( within the contructor of the class)
    then after completing the constructor for the class- (I am trying to display an ImageIcon on the background of a JFrame)
    i provided the following definition after the constructor and b4 the main method:
    protected static ImageIcon createImageIcon(String path,
    String description) {
    java.net.URL imgURL = LabelDemo.class.getResource(path);
    if (imgURL != null) {
    return new ImageIcon(imgURL, description);
    } else {
    System.err.println("Couldn't find file: " + path);
    return null;
    this is what i did-and when run from the IDE-it is perfect, but the jar file ggenerated when executed displays every single thing-all swing components e.t.c EXCEPT the image
    the image is in the same folder as the source file- i checked because if not, an error is indicated- so that is not the problem here.
    this same exact code works perfectly with applets and they execute perfectly both from the IDE and also when executed separately.
    the same problem also iccurs when trying to display on labels and buttons.(only for JFrames not for JApplets)
    the thing is in the java tutorial the method is given for applets and so my applets worked -so is there somethin i'm missing for frames- as far as i know they r very similar as far as usage is concerned.

  • Problem of J2SE1.4.2 with NetBeans Cobundle on XP

    I download J2SE v 1.4.2 with NetBeans IDE v 3.5 Cobundle and install it on XP professional.
    Then modify system variable:
    Path: ......;C:\j2sdk_nb\j2sdk1.4.2\bin;......
    Add system variable:
    CLASSPATH: .;C:\j2sdk_nb\j2sdk1.4.2lib\tools.jar;C:\j2sdk_nb\j2sdk1.4.2\lib\dt.jar
    In command window, I can execute javac. BUT when I run java, always get error:
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main".
    HELP!!! Thanx!

    This sounds like a basic problem with understanding java applications. I suggest you try the tutorial here: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/getStarted/cupojava/win32.html
    Your code must have a method named main (java is case sensitive) and it must look exactly like:public static void main(String[] args)The error message you posted indicates that the class you are trying to execute does not have such a method.

  • Documentation about basic steps of develop an a application with NetBeans

    Hi!
    I'm new with JSF, and I dare to ask you to help me in the following problem:
    Where can I find a documentation(electronic preferable) about step by step development of an application with NetBeans / Visual JSF Web Application/Woodstock Component?
    I expect from such a documentation 2 things:
    *1* explanation of the components (NetBeans / Visual JSF Web Application/Woodstock Components)
    *2* step by step explaining how to create the basic/main features of an application(search features, master/detail views of tables, reporting, user authentication, etc.)
    Thanks !

    I mean, something like "a good practices manual" for NetBeans / Visual JSF Web Application/Woodstock Component.
    Thanks!
