Help with setup - no network adapter

I'm trying  to setup my linksys WRT54GS and during setup it says my network adapter isn't enabled. I followed the directions and still, nothing works. Here is my situation. I have a home pc that I want to use the router as non-wireless. My roommate will be using the wireless while I will just be connected via a normal ethernet cable. Can anyone help me with this install? Thanks.

do u see the Local Area network in Network connections in control panel panel ? is it enabled ?

  • Help with multiple AP network setup

    I am in need of a little help setting up my network again. I have a AP extreme2, AP extreme 1 and two AP expresses. The house I am in is wired with CAD 5 to each room. I have a Linksys Etherfast Router (BEFSR81, this is the 8 port version of the one that is certified to work with Back to my mac). I have two desktop macs (G4 and G5)without wireless as well as a MBPro.
    I have had this all working as a WDS using the airports in bridge mode and was able to control Airtunes from any computer in the house, share files and use screen sharing without trouble. The problem is that back to my mac would not work with this set up because NAT was not switched on. How should I configure each of the Airports to be able to use Back to my mac, file sharing and airtunes for each computer in the house?
    The basic set up I have is as follows:
    1. Linkys router receiving input from cable modem (cox cable) and passing to LAN to distribute to each room of the house.
    2. AP extreme 2 in office with G4/G5, airdisk attached.
    3. AP extreme 1 in bed room
    4. AP express in living room
    5. AP express in den
    In order to use the back to my mac feature of 10.5 I believe I need to select "Share a single IP address" in the Airport utility but what do I need to do after that? I am at a loss with IP addressing and such.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Greg

    I'm using the Mac wired - it does not have wireless capability, and as it is sitting right next to the router I just want to hook it up with Ethernet cable. The wireless function is just for the PCs I have downstairs.
    I am not sure what non-broadcast SSID means, but I think that has to do with the wireless portion of the network, right? I do have a SSID name set up, and WEP encryption so that only the PCs I own can connect to the wireless network, not anyone else's computers. But on the wired PC I have connected directly to the router, I do not have to input any of the security settings. I've even set the router to recognize the MAC addresses of all my computers, including the Mac.
    What brand and model of router are you using successfully with Macs & PCs? The store I bought my router from is willing to give me a full refund if I can't get it to work - perhaps I would have better luck with the type of router you're using.

  • AirPlay works with Yamaha RX-A710 equipped with YWA-10 network adapter?

    I have a RX-A710 equipped with a YWA-10 network adapter, is it possible to play music from my iPhone or Mac as an input to my receiver, like using AirPlay?

    I have got a denon receiver. At some point itunes used to behave properly. But i dont exactly remember when but i started getting the error.
    I get the same error even on the latest version of itunes.I am able to airplay to the denon the 1st time. Then once my Denon goes in network standby mode(not power off) and I want to airplay to Denon again i get the error above.  However i verified that i can reach the Denon from iphone and even airplay music directly from phone during this whole time.
    The only fix i found is to restart itunes. Once itunes starts again i can Airplay to Denon again.
    I know this is not a DENON problem or my PC or my network as everything else from PC works properly, everything else AIRPLAY's to DENON properly.
    Apple please help.

  • Help with extending a network using AirPort Express

    I am UK based and have BT Infinity Internet connection. I have a BT NTE which provides an ethernet connection for my home network. I have an AirPort Express 2nd Gen setup to provide initial router etc with the local LAN port connected to a 24 port gigabit switch. I have structured cabling providing ethernet ports in each room.
    PC's etc are configured as fixed IP in the rooms they are in and connect via ethernet, however, my wifi (because of the construction of the house) is very poor especially upstairs and at the back of the house.
    I have setup a second AirPort Express at the back of the house connected via the ethernet port, assigned a static IP, configured bridge mode, and setup Extended Network. However, my internal network is now very flacky, wifi keeps dropping out, Internet access for all devices is up and down, in short, it's unusable. However, If I use the second AirPort Express in Join a Network mode it appears to be more stable!
    So Q1 - What is the difference between Extend a Network (via ethernet) and Join a Network (via ethernet) and what are the benefits of both? (which one should I be using?)
    and Q2 - assuming Q1 is Extend a Network is the correct way to go, can someone please explain in complete detail the exact process and configuration for this to work effectively? If I can extend correctly I am looking at adding a third AirPort Express in the garage so I have wifi access in the garden and in the garage.
    Many thanks for all assistance

    On Friday it asked me for my password to my wireless network at my house, so I put it in. Then it said unable to join. I think I got the password wrong. Can someone help with me this so I am able to put in my password for this? Thanks!

  • Need help with Tiger & XP network setup

    Hi all!
    Back in the days of OS 7.5, I managed to stick my old faithful Mac onto my family's otherwise all-PC network. All I really needed was internet access - I didn't try to fileshare.
    Now that I have Tiger, though, I'm totally lost as to how to set up the network. All the help I can find seems to say "ask your network administrator." The problem is, that's me! I'm hoping someone can help me set up the router and the Tiger computer as well.
    Could this be a compatibility issue between OS 10.4 and the router? The router box said "minimum requirements" for Mac are "10.3, 10.2, or 10.1."
    I have a D-link DI-624 wireless router. Right now I have a desktop PC wired in with cat-5 cable, and also a laptop PC that connects wirelessly. No problem with those computers. But I cannot get my Mac to see the router, or vice versa.
    I've tried setting the router to "allow DHCP server to assign same IP address to specific MAC address." (I found my Mac's Mac address just fine and double-checked it was correct.) After setting that in the router, I hooked up the Mac via cat-5 and edited Network Prefs. First I tried "Configure using DHCP with manual address," and entered the IP address I had told the router to set automatically for the Mac.
    (Router address is 192.168.0.1 and I told it to assign 192.168.0.4 to the Mac.)
    Safari told me I wasn't connected to the Internet, so using trial and error I changed Network Prefs to "Configure IPv4 using DHCP." No luck there either, even when I tried the "Renew DHCP Lease" button.
    Any advice as to whether or not I should be telling the router to auto-assign an IP address to the Mac? I took off that setting completely, and set Network Prefs to "using DHCP," but still couldn't connect to the internet.
    Would it be worth re-installing my older copy of OS 10.1 to see if that works with the router, since that is actually listed on the box?
    I thank you for any suggestions you have to offer! I really don't know what to try next.

    I'm using the Mac wired - it does not have wireless capability, and as it is sitting right next to the router I just want to hook it up with Ethernet cable. The wireless function is just for the PCs I have downstairs.

  • Need help with routing a network in VMware.

    I have one network with the IP of 192.168.2.10. A router is setup with two networks. The first network has an IP of 192.168.2.3 and the second network has an IP of 192.168.3.2. Then there is one final network whose IP is 192.168.3.10. My goal is to set
    up route table entries and have all the networks be able to ping each other. The route table entries I am referring to is the
    route -p add command. If someone could help me understand what entries I should input so all the networks can ping each other, that would be great. Thanks. If you need a picture of the network, I have a diagram.

  • Help with purchasing correct network card

    Hi, I'm trying to set up a wireless network for a friend who has an IBook G3 purchased in December 2002 which I know makes it very old. I have a 802.11g wireless ADSL router successfully set up and the IBook can connect to the internet successfully through a standard network cable to the router.
    I would like to connect to the router wirelessly so I would appreciate some guidance on the correct network card to buy for this model
    IBook G3 PowerPC Model A1005   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Welcome, Kosh-vorion
    first check with the system profiler (Apple->"Abouth this Mac"->"more Info")then "network"->Airport card
    whether there is already an airport card build in. if not, you need to buy it and install it; i don't know whether this is easy or not for an iBook to install. There is a manual here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iBookG3_14inchUserGuideMultilingual.PDF
    but i'm not sure whether it is exactly your model. (search the Apple supprt pages, if it isn't).
    cost of the Airport card is something like 50 $.
    If it is already installed, go to "system preferences"-> network and setup.
    Post back, if you have more questions.
    success,
    Thomas

  • Help with small wired network?

    My office has 7 iMacs and 3 MacBooks using ethernet cables to connect via a hub. I'm trying to establish a wired network between these, so as to allow full browsing and read/write access among them while preventing access to any computer not physically connected.
    I understand I can set the home folders to shared, but a few problems present:
    1. This seems to establish wireless sharing, whereas we need a wired-only network.
    2. I understand how to share between accounts on a single computer, say, accounts A and B on computer X. But how to add permissions for accounts on other computers (e.g. account Y on computer Z)?

    Yep, I realize that, and it's where I'm stuck at. I'm only seeing two possibilities, neither of which is helpful...
    A. allow permissions for "Users & Groups" on the same computer, which ignores the goal of networking users from other computers.
    B. allow "Everyone" with a wireless connection, which ignores the goal of creating a network between only the office computers.
    So the Receptionist computer wants to allow access to users from the Front Office computer, Technicians computer, and Back Office computer. Back office wants to allow users from the Technicians computer, Front Office computer, and so forth.
    But for example, all I can figure out now is how to allow users on the Receptionist computer to allow other users on the Receptionist computer, or else to allow all users from any computer with a wireless connection...

  • Slow wifi with Ralink rt3290 network adapter

    I formated my laptop and installed win 7 x64 once again.My wifi was fine before but now I have installed all the drivers from HP support and my wifi speed is very slow although other laptops in my house have normal speed (about 10 times faster).I have a Ralink rt3290 adapter with driver version 5.0.45.0, I have tried to uninstall and install all the possible driver versions with no success.I tried all the forums I could find and did DNS flushing and such, the router is configured fine and is not too far or too close to my laptop.If I connect with ethernet cable my speed gets to about 80mps, when on wifi I get 5mps and on the other laptop I get 40mps.I really don't know what to do and I don't think that the adapter itself is broken.Can someone please help me?? Thank you,John

    Yes there are older ones, but it sure seems odd that the older you go back the better they work... I am going to give you a link with revision histories of the drivers. Try any of them you want...I would start with 5.0.5.0 http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5229456&swItemId=ob_113862_1&swEnvOid=4059#tab-history I would also check to make sure the wireless card antennas are securely fastened to the wireless card. There are rare circumstances where one of the antennas are not securely fastened to the card during assembly and that causes all kinds of issues, needless to say.

  • Help with Samba/WINS networking, please!!

    EDIT: sigh I didn't see there was a 802.11n specific forum...
    I have been banging my head on this for hours now and have searched exhaustively with no working answer. I bought an Airport Express to replace an aging 802.11g router. (I have heard great things about the AXP.) But...
    I have multiple Macs and Windows boxes on the same network. I'm running a webserver, Subversion server, etc. Across the board, the network shares/servers/etc are referenced by the computer's name. (ie. server, ultra, etc.) So, when I do "ping server" the server at 192.168.1.2 responds, as an example.
    BUT, now that I have an Airport Express, NONE of the computer names are resolving. Interestingly, if I do a "net lookup server" it finds the associated IP address. But if I just ping it: no-go. I am fully aware that I could just connect via IP addresses to all the various boxes, but I really don't want to have to print out a list of computers and their associated IP addresses.
    I really hope someone can help me. I'm massively frustrated and am really not feeling the "It just works" mantra right now. Thanks in advance.

  • Can someone help with Telstra (Australia) network ...

    I need network settings and Telstra Australia is unable to supply these to me and they recommended that I contact Nokia.
    I am using my Nokia Lumia 710 for prepaid mobile plan. My ISP is not Telstra.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

    Sorry it's taken so long to reply here. Have had some family health problems.
    In essence my problem appears to be solved. Although I have had this phone since 2012 I've never bothered with using it as a smartphone so I was/am in a learning curve.
    I purchased this phone (not from a Telstra outlet) to replace my ancient Motorola which was an unlocked Telstra. I had and have a prepaid plan with Telstra. Ths SIM in the Motorola would not fit in this new phone. My existing number was transferred to this new phone.
    I was leading up to changing my prepaid plan but decided to check how much data I would need on a plan for MMS, email and browing internet.
    I had been unable to send/received MMS so in May decided to sort this out. I read discussions online re problems people were having with MMS. One comment was that Data connection needed to be turned on. I did this and sent an MMS of approx 800KB. This cost me $19.01. I was not sure whether this was because of the settings on my phone or whether it was a function of my prepaid plan. It seemed that sending an MMS used data and therefore accrued charges. I saw  discussions online where people were discussing settings for APN.
    Telephone discussions and on-line chat with Telstra said the $19.01 was because I had data turned on and I should turn it off. But everything I read online said I needed to have data turned on to send MMS. Also seemed to say that there was not data charge associated with it. I was advised to contact Nokia for settings as Telstra had no settings for Nokia Lumia 710. Hence my post on this discussion.
    Finally another Telstra employee said he would set up my phone for me. I've no idea what he did. He said that I do not need to bother about APN settings - just have data turned on and that my phone is set up automatically. It does seem to me that I need to have WIFI turned off.
    I am able to send MMS and appear to have no data charge although I do now have a different plan with a data allowance. I am able to receive emails and browse the internet.
    I have no idea why others are using settings in APN. I have much to learn!

  • Help with setup for live streaming

    I'm trying to set up a live stream that's viewable on my
    website.
    I have two machines behind a router with one being the
    webserver running FMS (windows 2003) and the other being the
    encoding machine running FME (windows XP).
    When I set up FME, I put in the following as the url to the
    server "rtmp://
    computernamewebserver/live/" with the session name being
    "test".
    This has no problems connecting to FMS .
    On the webserver/FMS, I created a *.swf file which basically
    contains just a flvplayback object with the URL set to "rtmp://
    computernamewebserver/live/test".
    Now after I publish this, I can view the video via the
    published html file from within the network, but when I try outside
    of the network, it doesn't work and I get no error messages so it's
    hard to debug.
    I have port 80 forwarded to my webserver/FMS machine. I tried
    forwarding port 1935 to both my webserver/FMS machine and the FME
    machine with no success.
    I've tried playing around with the rtmp URL by changing the
    computernamewebserver from the internally recognized
    computer name to the externally recognized URL to my webserver.
    The solution is probably something simple, but since this is
    my first attempt at flash streaming, it's not obvious to me and
    I've tried searching for the solution. My suspicion is that there's
    some config file somewhere that I need to config that I don't know
    about or maybe it's some port issue. Neither of my machines have
    windows based firewall disabled.

    "Now after I publish this, I can view the video..." Well this
    shows that FMS is working fine, so I am guessing that it is an
    outside network issue.
    "Neither of my machines have windows based firewall disabled.
    " I don't know if this is the cause either, as a host based
    firewall should prevent any connections from arriving, either by
    the internal lan or the external (well, at least I think that is
    the case, I dont know if windows still allows hosts on the same
    subnet to have local lan permissions or what they do with their
    crazy security model. That said it shouldn't be a problem.)
    I would try to just telnet to the port that you have open to
    make sure the connection can be established.
    telnet computernamewebserver 1935 (this should open up a
    socket, otherwise your port forwarding isnt working correctly.)
    If telnet works ok, perhaps its an issue with the swf. I
    would code the minimal things needed to just get a stream playing
    from the external network (perhaps just using the vod service, not
    the live, to make things simple).
    Hope that helps.

  • Help with receiving compressed network data

    I'm trying to send some compressed data over a network connection from a server (written in C) to my Java program. My server sends the length of the compressed data (in bytes) as a regular integer, then sends the compressed data itself. Therefore, my client is essentially this:
    open Socket
    while (true) {
    read an int from the socket, using a DataInputStream object
    allocate new byte array using the size provided above
    read bytes from socket, using the DataInputStream object
    decompress bytes, using an Inflater object
    parse decompressed data
    But prior to reading any compressed data, I have to do this:
    while (dataIn.available() < amount_of_compressed_data) { ; }
    where dataIn is my DataInputStream object, or else I get tons of zlib errors (header errors, data errors, internal stream errors) when I try to decompress my data. I thought that Sockets in Java were blocking though, and I shouldn't have had to do this. Can anyone explain?
    Also, when I use an SSLSocket instead of a regular Socket, dataIn.available() always returns zero so my client is stuck in an infinite loop. I know the SSL handshake stuff has been set up properly because the client can send messages to the server which are handled correctly, so the problem isn't that. I know the bytes are being sent over the network from the server to the client because I can see them using Ethereal, but for some reason they never show up when calling available(). If I remove that call, I can read bytes from the SSLSocket but I get the zlib errors mentioned above. Does anyone know why this would be?
    thanks in advance for any help.
    - Dan

    hi, thanks for your response.
    Have you verified the order of the bytes in the int?
    Are you sure that you are getting the correct length?
    Different platforms can use different order for the
    bytes in an in (little vs big endian). Are you
    writing in network order?yes. The server calls htonl() before sending integers over the network, and I believe that using the DataInputStream class to read those integers will take care of byte order for me.
    Read the documentation for available:
    "Returns the number of bytes that can be read (or
    skipped over) from this input stream without blocking
    by the next caller of a method for this input stream.
    The next caller might be the same thread or or
    another thread.
    The available method for class InputStream always
    returns 0. "
    It says one important thing. Streams can return zero.
    They don't have to return a number which says how
    many bytes there are available.
    Kajoops. So if I remove the calls to available() because they don't do what I want, I get the data integrity exceptions I mentioned earlier. It seems to be a problem with my Inflater. It doesn't return the expected amount of uncompressed bytes (a value which the client will always know ahead of time), even though I'm passing it the correct amount of compressed bytes.
    Here's the relevant portion of my code:
    while (true) {
        try {
            DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(net_socket.getInputStream());
            /* get size of compressed data */
            int compressed_size = -1;
            byte[] compressed_data = null;
    //        while (dis.available() < 4) { ; }
            compressed_size = dis.readInt();
            System.out.println("reading " + compressed_size + " bytes of compressed data");
            compressed_data = new byte[compressed_size];
            /* get compressed data */
    //        while (dis.available() < compressed_size) { ; }
            dis.read(compressed_data, 0, compressed_size);
            /* zlib header integrity check - should output 0x78, 0x9c */
            System.out.println("0x" + Integer.toHexString(compressed_data[0]));
            System.out.println("0x" + Integer.toHexString(compressed_data[1]));
            /* uncompress data */
            Inflater i = new Inflater();
            byte[] uncompressed_data = new byte[PACKET_SIZE];
            int uncompressed_size = -1;
            i.reset();
            i.setInput(compressed_data);
            uncompressed_size = i.inflate(uncompressed_data);
            System.out.println("received " + uncompressed_size + " bytes of uncompressed data");
            /* consume data here */
        catch (Exception e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
    }thanks again for any help.
