Not exactly iweb - need help with a graphic for my site
This doesn't fit anywhere so dumping it here. I drew by hand a graphic I want to use with iweb to put on my site as my site's logo. Main problem is that getting the background transparent isn't working well as when it was scanned the scanner didn't back the background "pure" white. I have tried adjusting the whitepoint and setting the color depth down, but still no good. I don't know a ton about graphic program use. I have an older copy of graphic converter that came on this powerbook when i got it. I would be fine having the graphic loose the marker look and have solid fill colors - just I am not good enough with computer drawing tools to do it on the computer! So I either need to get a volunteer to help me out, or some help with some detailed instructions to get this to work out... (also I am broke so no cost/shareware is only option here)

I have a cleaner copy now after someone suggested GIMP, so played with it last night - though couldn't figure out transparency - that was clear on converter- just not cooperative till these wonderful directions.
So now I know how to do it without messing with the pic, and with messing with it - both good lessons and got a bit brighter color out of the deal.

Help with BufferedImage - Graphics updating
Hello All-
I will try to explain the best I can, still new to Java2D so little confused
Hopefully the explanation makes a little bit of sense....
I have a tabbedPane, one tab with no graphics and the other tab full of graphics
The tab with the graphics on it is basically a bunch of rectangles that will change color depending on real time data I am pulling from a Mysql DB
For sake of performance I only want to have to repaint those rectangles when the data from the DB changes (i.e. repaint the rectangles when the bit changes from 1=good to 0=bad)
Any help on how to start implementing this would be absolutely wonderful
or if I could explain something any better please ask.

wouldn't work well. Here is a link to some tips on doing your own drawing.
Again, yes, you may have to define your own component class. The only other alternative I can think of is to have a JLabel
that has an ImageIcon that holds your BufferedImage, and you update this by calling repaint after updating
the BufferedImage. -

Color printing help with large graphics Reader 11.0.3
Good morning! We recently upgraded to 11.0.3. Windows 7 64-bit. We've had issues printing large color graphics from Reader 11.
For example, the PDF will have an intricate purple graphic with matching purple text blocks underneath. Print preview shows correctly, but when printed the graphic prints brown instead of purple. The purple text blocks print correctly. This seems to happen sporadically, but seems to be with complex graphics.
Documents from all other apps print OK and if we open this .pdf from Acrobat X Standard and export it to a .png file the colors print correctly.
The graphic files come from a myriad of sources and customers and we don't have control over the way the documents are originally saved or what apps are used to create the artwork.
Any idea why the graphics colors aren't printing and if there are settings we can adjust in Reader 11 so they will print correctly?
We've tried:
- Printing to several printers with different drivers and all yield the same results. (Toshiba eStudio 3530c with PCL6 and PS drivers, Epson Artisan 835, HP OfficeJet 8600, Samsung CLX-6200x)
- Adjusting the Overprint Preview settings under File -> Preferences and setting "Simulate Overprinting" under the Advanced button in the print preview window.
- Selecting "Print As Image" under the Advanced button in the print preview window.
- Adjusting the Document Color Options under File -> Preferences -> Accessibility.

If that doesn't work, you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else. -
[8i] Need help with some workday calculations
At the beginning of the month, I got help with a workday calculation in: [8i] Help with function with parameters (for workday calculation)
Now, as it turns out, I was able to locate a function in the database that does what I want, however, it is much slower to use the function than to join two copies of the CALN table (Please see referenced thread for details. I can copy them to this thread if necessary.) I need to verify that the pre-existing function has 'DETERMINISTIC' in it, as I would guess that if it doesn't, it would be much slower than it could be.
But now, I've come across a situation where I have to do multiple workday calculations in the same query--enough that I have to join 6 copies of my CALN table. I can't imagine that is at all efficient. I believe it was Frank K. who said (in the original thread) that if the function was slow, I should consider alternatives. Can anyone help me identify some of those alternatives? I'm definitely at that point now. (This query is one I'm using as the base for a report in Oracle BI, and let's just say it doesn't like my query, even though my syntax appears to be correct, and I would guess that joining 6 copies of one table is at least partly to blame for this).
Note: I'm working with Oracle 8iOK, I finally have some sample data... I tried to make it thorough. I've included data in the CALN table YTD + tomorrow, so that any workday calculations using SYSDATE will work.

I have already written the swords, the texts and the central anime minecraft guy with Anime Studio, but i need to do this 3 things:
1. Am expanding cirle opening
2. A light/flash as transition between the first animation and the next logo
(I have another question, but more difficult: I want to do a sun rays effect from an angle)
All of these effects-transitions are in the youtube video that i linked.
Can someone help me with one of these questions?

Thank you for the attention.The circle wipe is just that, a transition. Look in Effects>Transition. I'll give you a clue, a circle has a radius... It's there along with some more interesting effects.
You can also do a circle transition with a simple animated mask, use a scaled round layer as a track matte or about a hundred other combinations.
The light burst effect can be done with a simple masked white solid blend mode set to add and opacity keyframes or by searching your effects and pre-sets for light b. You'll find it. Just add it to a solid between your layers, set the blend mode to add and use an animated mask and opacity to bring in the effect. (the yellow thing in the middle is the animated mask that makes CC light burst interesting.
Same thing can be used for your sun rays. It's just a matter of layering and the shape of your mask.
Here again, there are dozens of ways to achieve this effect.
If you're completely lost then start here. This is basic enough AE that you shouldn't really need a step by step tutorial to pull it off.
Or as dave suggested, get Anime Studio. -

I am a new member but used to visit the site regularly. I am undergoing a java project and I cannot seem to get my head around how to code when users log in, there name must appear at the top of each page they visit.
User enters name into a text box. Do I use getter and setter methods? any bit of help would be of some advantage to me.

if you are using frame you have to consider... which frame is a top parent. that top frame will have the set and get method.. for you to set and retrieve the user name.. bear in mind that different object will have different user...

Help with some iPhone issues please
Ok, I am starting to have some problems with my iPhone 3G, and would really appreciate any help with these issues.. here is what is happening
1) iPhone Vibrate is pretty much broken, turns off and on vibrate by itself.. and now is vibrating very softly.
2) iPhone wont sync my Music anymore, I have 3 playlists that I use on my iPhone, and none of them will update. When I sync my iPhone, everything syncs but the music.
3) iPhone sometimes completely freezes and i cant get it to go to the locksreen or power off, so I have to do a hard restart.Hi Matt,

OK, still trying to play catchup after some years away from Java. I'm slowly getting back up to speed with the help of some of the gurus present on this site.

I need some help with acls for a vacl. Goal - have the 1.1.1.0/24 subnet only communicate with certain IP.
So, they cannot get out to anywhere else and no one except that IP can get in.
Here is what I have so far:

I implemented this on my 6509 and it didn't work. I even modified it to look like the following and it didn't work (I could RDP to one of the boxes on that the subnet).

Ok, Ihad a G3 iBook, and while I loved it I was dissapointed when the G4 iBooks debuted 2 weeks later at the same price...or cheaper I forget. In either case I've had it for the last 3 years and its seen me through college. I need to get my graphics portfolio together and the iBooks died on me. Now, I use Photoshop and Illustrator and I'm sure you've heard of the problems facing the intels when it comes to Adobes non-universal binary coding. Well apparently I could run the windows version of CS2 if I installed Windows XP on an intel mac, however I prefer OS X as an operating system. I've heard that the intel Power Macs are coming out in August and with two hard drives or Processors (I forget which) I could install OX X on one and Windows on the other and switch between them solving the problem until CS3 ships early next year. But I dont know if I can wait until Apple actually releases the intel Power Macs, so what do you guys suggest?

Sorry about my long post g'day.I've installed Photoshop 7, CS1, and CS2 on my MacBook, not to mention the two OS X versions of Office (no, I'm not crazy, I work for an Apple reseller part time and teach at a community college and high school - maybe that does make me crazy! Anyway, my MacBook and Mac mini are test beds for work) so unlike many people who are spreading FUD about Rosetta, I can talk with some authority.
Rosetta is truly amazing. Yes, every version of Photoshop starts more slowly - they take about 30-50% longer to load. But once they are running they run well. Even my large collection of filters are well behaved. Does Photoshop run slowly on an Intel Mac? Well yes, but speed is relative and when is the speed slowdown significant? Simply put, you are moving from an iBook G3. Any version of Illustrator and Photoshop you install on your MacBook is going to run faster. If you were moving from a G4 iBook I'd tell you that you'd notice the difference only if you were running a filter on a large file. In short, don't hesitate to buy now.
But - max out your RAM. I ordered 1GB thinking that would be plenty based on the months I'd put in on my Mac mini. But I soon began wishing I'd gotten 2GB and the last two or three weeks I've been cursing my penny pinching ways. I'm working on some new brochures for the college so ordinarily I'd have Indesign and Photoshop running, along with Mail, Safari, and a few other things. But I've found my MacBook ain't happy about that. Switching between apps was just too slow, so I've had to pare down to just ID and PS and Mail.
