Help with WRT54GS on FiOS (ethernet, not coax)

Hey guys, I'm new here and just trying to get some help with this unsolvable problem that I just started having with my Linksys WRT54GS and Verizon FiOS last week.
To simplify my full story and actual issue here, I put it all into points to try and make it simpler to understand:
-In Fall of 2007, I switch from Comcast to Verizon FiOS after getting screwed over waiting for two weeks and never getting a new router, as the first one was fried in a thunderstorm
-Little brother knocks over the first Actiontec router and it breaks
-Actiontec replacement router's wireless is nonexistant (MI42WR)
-After trying out bridging the Linksys to the Actiontec, it proves to be much more of a pain than actual solution to lack of wireless
-Switched from coax to full cat5 ethernet last year to use Linksys WRT54GS
-Been happily directly connected from ONT to Linksys WRT54GS via cat5 ethernet for the past year while the wireless is perfect for the other computers
(last week)
-Turned off Linksys router for one night last week to give it an over night rest
-Has not been able to connect to Verizon with old WRT54GS or brand new WRT54GL router (That I'm now returning)
-ONT ethernet light outside still has a green light indicating it's working
-I do not want to bridge the Actiontec and Linksys again
-I do not want to go back to using the Actiontec for anything, but stuck with it for now
-Has reset the connections of the router, computer and released the DHCP plenty of times, but to no avail
-Has upgraded the firmware of my WRT54GS before typing this and still nothing
-No connection for any Linksys router, but the Actiontec works
I can't think of a solution except perhaps trying one from another company, like D-Link.. (sad face) I'm already returning the new router on monday, since I don't believe that my WRT54GS is even broken if the new one isn't connecting either. So I'm just thinking that perhaps Verizon has done something that isn't allowing any of my Linksys routers to connect, since they happily started charging me an extra $10-12 on the FiOS bill without notice. Though at this point, I have a hard time believing that even switching to another router company and using their products will do anything for me..
At this very moment, I'm suffering with this awful stock Verizon router and my parents and aunt have been complaining for the past two weeks. Hopefully someone here knows what the real problem may be that can chime in with some help.

Yep, I sure have done exactly what you said to do. I wasn't able to edit my post, but that's exactly what I had to do when I was doing tests with the Verizon technician over the phone. I also reset all of the settings within my computer and browsers.. Still, the only router that works is the Actiontec router that I have been trying to avoid. The other Verizon techs during the day don't help at all, but the one time I called at like 2am at least TRIED to help me out with my Linksys router..
I've even gone as far as switching the ethernet cable from the ONT that goes to the WAN port of the Linksys to go to the computer's ethernet port and moving the other end to the Lan 1-4 jacks, while using a whole new cable for the ONT --> Linksys WAN.
I still got the green light from the ONT and I still got no connection from Verizon.. There's no way I'm switching out from Verizon FiOS, but this is really giving me a headache trying to solve this issue.

    If you already have another Apple AirPort router that is providing your wireless signal, then a new AirPort Express could extend that wireless signal to provide a stronger wireless signal to the TV....assuming that the TV connects using wireless.
    Is this what you are asking?
    Or, would the Express provide other services to "help"?

  • Help with WRT54GS Router

    Hi Im using windows vist and I need a little help with my router. I installed the EasyLink Advisor. I was setting up my router and it got to the step where it said something like; "Make sure you see these indicator lights" or something like that. So All of them were on and it said detecting router. It then went to a screen that said reset your router so i unplugged it. when i tried it again it said it didnt detect my router. All the lights were on Im on the internet right now but it still cant detect my router. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I need help with WRT54G v. 4 and xbox

    I keep getting freezes whenever anyone else on my network accesses the internet. All the computers are wireless, only the 360 is wired. I have set the MTU for 1365. I attempted to set the 360 for a static ip so i could forward ports to it, but whenever I try to test it, it always says that the ip test is failed. I can get my computer on with a static ip, why not the 360? Please help

    Hi.
     Try using the static IP 192.168.1.10 SM 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 on the XBOX. ( Supposing your router is set to default IP).  After assigning  the static IP powercycle the router and check the connection if the IP test fails try upgrading  the router firmware. Also check the type of cable that you are using to connect between the router and the Xbox.

    i think my router is dead but heres the info
    the 1-2-3-4 ethernet lights are flashing and the internet light
    ive tried holding down the reset button for 30 secs and nothing happens
    computer doesent recognize it and i cant get any type of connection out of it

    i really hope someone can help me with my situation that i'm in. My WRT54GS v7 been acting on me. I had a network establish on it connecting to my Xbox 360. When i switch different game systems i disconnected my game adapter and the router from the modem for a short period. Later i connect everything again and it went fine. I just changed security settings and tired to reconnect my game adapter back to the xbox 360 and nothing happen. It couldn't find the router. Later after several different trial and errors. It found it. Still couldn't connect. First the network and then the IP address stop the game adapter from working couldn't connect fully to the router. so i went back on trying to set the router to allow the game adapter in. Change the settings back to normal and then a message about detecting new changes makes this your defalut settings so i tried , but now couldn't detect the router ( even though it's right there not even 3 feet away). So i did what i was told to my the Linksys advisor to detect the router. Rest 10 seconds , connect, wait 30sec. , click next. I went to help and followed more instructions there. I reset the router several times. I uninstall and reinstall, went to web site to go to factory default. Tried on the game adaptor the reset, type manually on xbox ,but to no avil have i succeed. I also went online and tried these commands. Ipconfig/ renew, release, all(for info). I need a miracle so please can someone help me on a permant fix. Since resetting, reinstalling, refactory defaulting doesn't seem to work..Also how can iconnect my game adapter to it. I used the set up for both router and game adapter and i'm still stuck where i am. :[

  • Help with WRT54G and CenturyTel DSL

    I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I'm trying to set up a WRT54G with DSL service from Century Telephone.
    I'm running Windows XP and have been using this DSL service for several years without a router, so I know I can connect reliably.  I've connected my desktop directly to the router (e.g. wired connection) and I've double and triple checked connections and know they are secure and correct.
    I ran the setup CD, and it could not find an Internet connection.  I went through all the normal steps - powering down everything, restarting.  No dice.  I downloaded Easty Answer ID 2210 from Linksys about setting up PPPoE DSL connections and followed all instructions - still no luck.  I downloaded latest firmware for router, tried again - no luck.   When I check router's status page, I see no connection and get error message "Cannot get IP address from PPPoE server".
    Then contacted CentryTel tech service to see if they had any suggestions.  They helped me set up a bridge connection through the router - but that just demonstrates the Internet conneciton is available and there isn't a wiring problem.  Spent about an hour on line with Linksys tech support, but he wasn't able to diagnose the problem and then the connection was dropped on his end.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    It is so nice to read that others are having the same problems - misery loves company.
    I used to have Comcast, but moved and switched to DSL.  I have never had problems like the ones I have experienced since switching, and have not had luck with either CenturyTel or Linksys customer service.
    I have the same issue - so we fiddled with the IP address and were able to get one computer on wireless.  However, we have three computers in the house - but the other two can't get on the Internet wirelessly.  Can multiple computers use the wireless connection after you've changed the IP address for one?  It doesn't seem to work for us, despite multiple calls to help desks (Linksys told us it was a problem with our laptop maker; however, we never had issues with this particular computer going on wireless at the old house.)
    Any help for WRT54TG/CenturyTel (or any DSL)/multiple computers is greatly appreciated!

  • Need help with printer sharing over ethernet

    I'd like to share the printer hooked up to my Mac Pro via USB with a MacBook in the same room. The MacBook is connected to my Mac Pro via ethernet cable (no router or switch; just a direct connection).
    I have enabled "Printer Sharing" on my Mac Pro.
    However, I'm not sure what to do from here. When I open up "Network" in System Preferences, and click on "built-in ethernet" it says "inactive". When I go to "Print and Fax Preferences" and attempt to add the printer connected to the Mac Pro, nothing shows up.
    I know I'm not understanding a key point here. If you could help me out I'd appreciate it. The goal is to allow the MacBook to use Airport to connect to the Internet, but to have access to the USB printer connected to my Mac Pro via ethernet (long story why this is necessary, but it is.)

    The printer is indeed connected to my Mac Pro via USB and is working perfectly.
    As I stated in the original post, printer sharing is enabled in System Preferences on my Mac Pro. There is an ethernet cable going from the ethernet 2 port of my Mac Pro to the ethernet port of my MacBook.
    The missing element was that I had not established a network connection between the two Macs. From the Macbook's Finder I chose "Go>Network" and then selected my Mac Pro. After I entered my username and password, I was connected to the Mac Pro.
    At this point I was then able to see the USB printer connected to the Mac Pro in the MacBook's "Print & Fax preferences".
    However, I still have one problem. When I add the printer on the MacBook, it chooses "generic postscript driver" even though I have recently installed the proper driver on the MacBook. Why would this be the case?

  • Desperately need your help with WRT54G

    I have WRT54G which connect to my desktop and a wireless laptop. The security was set as WEP. Everything  works fine. I learned that WAP is more secured than WEP so I went to linksys router webpage setup and change it to WAP aes.
    Now I have a problem. My wireless laptop can not access to the internet anymore. I could not remmemer what I did and exactly where but I did enter the WAP password on my wireless laptop. Sometimes, it shows connection is limitted and sometimes, it shows connected. But the wireless laptop can not access the internet (it just a blank webpage). So I changed it back to WEP and still unable to connect to the internet like before. Please show me the steps to make my wireless laptop to be able to connect to the internet (from the very beginning steps like I just bought the laptop today). A friend of mine helped me with connection before but he is not here now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Finally, I got the wireless laptop connected to the internet now. I entered a new passphrase and generated a new set of wep key on the linksys setup webpage.  I then use the 1st wep key there to enter it on the laptop.  I want to use the passphrase (easy to remember) when I set up on the laptop but it would not work unless I enter the wep key. So what is the passphrase for? to generate those wep keys? What can I do so that I do not have to use the wep key when set up the wireless laptop? it's just too long to remember. When my friends come over, I have to actually visit the linksys setup webpage to get the long wep key.  I would like to use the passphrase if possible since it's much easier to remember.

    Can someone please help me with a problem I am having setting up a WWW server?
    I installed a wireless network in my home last week. I’ve spent days trying to configure the network so that I can run a WWW server on port 80. Right now I have it configured as two separate networks so I can access the WWW server on an additional roadrunner IP on PC1 that is the reason for the hub.
    PC1 wired to EFAH05W 5 port hub ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
    PC2 wired to WRT54G ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
    PC3 wired to WAP54G ---> Linksys LNE100TX network adapter
    Mac note book wireless WAP54G ---> MacAirport
    Motorola SB 5100 Surfboard Modem ---> Linksys EFAH05W 5 port hub ---> Linksys WRT54G V 6.0 ---> Linksys WAP54G v3.01
    I want to cancel the extra IP and remove the hub and still access the www server from outside my network! I want the WWW server to run on PC3 which is hard wired to the WAP54G.  I have all of the ports forwarded correctly and no firewalls! I can access all three computers on the private network with no problem and they all can access the internet but… When I go to the PC1 with the road runner IP I can’t I can’t access the WWW server running on PC3.
    I have the WAP54G set as a client and the IP addresses begin at 192.168.1.100 and run through 192.168.1.105 wireless is on channel 6 and security is 128bit wep.  
    While I am here I might as well address another issue I have.  I up-graded the firmware on the WRT54G V 6.0 to v1.02.0 and now I cant get the WAP54G to work in repeater mode which seems to have been fixed by going back to v1.01.0 firmware  but I cant find v1.01.0 anywhere does anyone know where I can find it?
    I know I should have backed up the firmware but… I didn’t  !

    Sorry, but the way you describe your network setup is hard to understand. It would be easier if you started from the internet connection and said how everything is wired/connected from there.

    I suppose that means your PC1 has a LNX100TX which is wired to the EFA, etc... Because later you only have a "--->" and it does not say anymore if it is wired or wireless...
    I guess the WAP is in repeater mode/WDS thus the WAP is connected wireless to the WRT and bridges to PC3.
    It also seems to me as if you are running two DHCP servers: one on the WAP and one on the WRT. This is a bad idea as well. In a LAN you should run only a single DHCP server.
    You also don't clear say how you are trying to access the web server. I suppose you enter your public IP address into your browser on a PC behind the WRT. You don't say exactly what is not working. You don't write exactly what error messages you get. If you enter the public IP address of the WRT router into your browser on a computer inside your LAN you will only get the web configuration page of the router. You cannot connect to a server port which is forwarded on the router. You must attempt the access from outside, i.e. the internet. Use an anonymizer service or a html validator for a quick glimpse what you can access from the internet.
    Old firmware: look on ftp://ftp.linksys.com/ for old firmware version. The U.S. versions are in the directory /pub/network You must keep in mind that the v6 is compatible with the v5. The directory is a little bit a mess. It is tricky to find the files which are relevant. I found the following two.

I have sucessfully intalled the help software and have a linksys wirless adapter on my computer. It reads connected to the access point but the internet cannot be found. i do not know what this means as i am new to this. please if you can make your posts easy to understand and not in gibberish. this will be greatly appreciated. thanx!!'

    I think u are trying to create a wireless network in ur place, though u have installed the router why ? dont u start from scrap.
    Hardreset the router for half a min & where u will find lights flashing & then stable.turn off & on both router & modem hardwire any pc to router with ethernet cable. & from router  to modem connect another ethernet cable.
    check all the lights are there for the connections made.
    make sure dont put the disc in PC , do manually , Open the setup page on IE which is normally default 192.168.1.1 , u will get authentication where there is no Username & password is ' admin '
    In basic setup u will find sub tab " Mac add clone ' make ; enable' , then 'clone my pc's Mac' & save & then u can configure wireless settings accordingly just understand the meaning of those Tab's .
    After completion try connecting wired 1st & then wirelessly.

    I have a laptop that is gaining wireless access from a remote router, I also have a WRT54G V5 router that I want to connect to the laptop and use to send a signal to another PC(with antenna).  I would think this is possible, but not exactly sure how to go upon it.  Please be specific with any replies as I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers.  Thanks.

    The set-up you are trying will not work if you are trying to communicate your remote router wirelessly to the WRT54G router...It is indeed possible if you can connect your remote router using an ethernet cable to the WRT54G router...

  • Elements 12 will not run. I am using windows 7, all updates have been made. When I try to open it up, it loads at first, then closes, and will not open up again. I need help with this, as I have not found a single answer in this forum that works.

    As stated, I just downloaded elements 12. Every time i open it up, it gets to the organizer home screen, then shuts down. After this, it will not reopen. I have made all the updates to my windows 7, and I have searched this forum and have yet to find an proper solution to this issue, and by the looks I am not the only person with this issue.
