Hey! something you may not know .....

a  Laptop Battery is portable and can run on batteries alone.
Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad) batteries were the first type of battery commonly used in laptop computers, and older laptops sometimes still use them. They have a life of roughly two hours between charges, but this life decreases with each charge based on thememory effect. Gas bubbles form in the cell plates, reducing the total amount of available cell space for recharge. The only way around this is to discharge the battery completely before recharging it. The other drawback of NiCad is that if the battery charges too long, it can explode.
Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are the bridge between NiCad and the newer Lithium-Ion (LiIon) batteries. They last longer between charges than NiCad but overall have a shorter total lifespan. They suffer from the memory effect, but to a lesser extent than NiCad batteries.
LiIon batteries are the current standard for laptop computers. They are light and have long life spans. They do not suffer from the memory effect, can be charged randomly, and won't overheat if overcharged. They are also thinner than any other battery available for laptops, making them ideal for the new ultra-thin notebooks. LiIon batteries can last for anything from about 950 up to 1200 charges.
Many laptops with LiIon batteries claim to have a 5-hour battery life, but this measurement can vary greatly depending on how the computer is used. The hard drive, other disk drives and LCD display all use substantial battery power. Even maintaining wireless Internet connectivity requires some battery power. Many laptop computer models have power management software to extend the battery life or conserve battery power when the battery is low.

Hmm, made some elementary mistakes there.
What I should have said was that the declared primitive type of the Java constant is converted to its C/C++ equivalent so..
Java int == C/C++ long
Java short == C/C++ short
Java byte == C/C++ byte
I would assume that Java String literals are converted to #define literals, with the L"literal" prefix so as to ensure UNICODE. I don't use String constants in this manner for my current project so I leave it up to you as an exersize to find out what happens.
To correct my previous post then the first example should have read..
package com.domain.package;
public class AClass {
public static final int A_CONSTANT 12;
javah will transform these constants into #defines whose names follow the name mangling conventions for classes run through javah.
The constant above is transformed into..
#undef com_domain_package_AClass_A_CONSTANT
#define com_domain_package_AClass_A_CONSTANT 12L
The second example you can ignore

  • Cool trick for 10.4.8 users you may not know about....

    if you have a mighty mouse or a scroll wheel, hold down control and twizzle it. cool eh?
    now move the mouse around. very cool.
    you can turn the same setting on to be used with key commands in system preferences -> universal.
    but i think this new feature is best with a scroll wheel and even better with mighty mouse.

    It's a little buggy on my machine and only works with 'Command', not Control. I have tried changing the key in system preferences but it always reverts to Command.
    I love using the feature on my powerbook with the track pad. Hold Control and drag two fingers at a time. COOL!

  • You may not need to install the Run Time Engine...

    I know this has been mentioned before, but after a long search of the archives, I couldn't find the right person to give credit to - sorry!
    If you have a simple exe, you may not need to install the runtime engine on the target machine at all - all you need to do is include some of the engine's files with the exe for it to work. Try it out: copy the following files & folders into the folder containing your exe:
    ..\National Instruments\shared\nicontdt.dll
    ..\National Instruments\shared\nicont.dll
    ..\National Instruments\shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\your_version\everything (including all sub-directories)
    so, using 6.1 as an example, you exe's directory would like something like:
    ..\AppDirectory\MyApp.exe
    ..\AppDirectory\MyApp.ini
    ..\AppDirectory\My_Apps_DLLs,if_any
    ..\AppDirectory\nicontdt.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\nicont.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvapp.rsc
    ..\AppDirectory\lvjpeg.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvpng.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\lvrt.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\mesa.dll
    ..\AppDirectory\serpdrv
    ..\AppDirectory\models\heaps_of_stuff_in_here
    ..\AppDirectory\errors\more_stuff_in_here
    ..\AppDirectory\script\and_some_bits_in_here_too
    Take all of this data to a machine without LabVIEW or the runtime installed, and try to run the exe - all going well, it will execute without any problems. This exe distribution method can be really useful, especially when distributing autorun presentations on CD-ROMs.

    Yes, this method is not supported. However, this method is good if you wish to write your own installer for a LabVIEW Application. (Note: The method above does not install DataSocket, NI-Reports, or any of the 3D Graph controls.)
    I would still suggest running the LabVIEW Run-time Engine installer so that more than one application can use it.

  • Windows can not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item?

    You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item? Thats what it says when I try to open iTunes. Ive tried repairing iTunes from control panel... Ive tried reinstalling. Im running windows vista on an acer laptop. It was working fine until something (unknown to me) happened.(?) The destination its searching in is C:Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe. Ive tried everything so far.... Please help!

    Are all of the computer users administrative users?
    Do you have another account logged in with iTunes open, when you try to use a different account? iTunes doesn't work with fast user switching, so make sure you choose "log off" instead of "switch user" when moving between user accounts.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device,path, or file.You may not have the appropiate permission

    We subscribe to a service called "Vault" which provies its documents in encrypted PDFs using the etd format. As well as Digitial Editions we have Acrobat Reader 9 installed on our PCs (Windows XP,SP2). When a user tries to download any of the documents they are seeing the following error:
    "Windows cannot access the specified device,path, or file.You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item."
    However, if they open Digitial Edtions (or have had it open at some point in the past) before they download the document it opens without any problems. We use ZEN works to manage our PCs, and we use something called Dynamic Local User (DLU) which means that when a students logs into a PC the user's local Windows account is created on the fly, and then when they log out it is then deleted. This means that they are effectively using Digitial Edtions for the first time everytime they log into a PC.
    As anyone else seen the above error? Also, is there a way of stopping it? What does Digital Editions do the first time it is opened? Are there registry keys that we can add, which emulates the opening of Digital Editions so it doesn't have to be opened first before we can download the Vault documents?
    Any advice/tips would be most welcome.

    Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Hi NabeelOmer,
    We wonder if you have taken any action such as system restore after this issue occurred.
    You might also try this command to restore your access control list.
    Run this command to navigate to the drive letter, example is D

    To reset all permissions, run this command
    icacls * /reset /t /c /q
    Visual Studio is a very invasive program and which provides the ability to enumerate projects and solutions for system, user should never try uninstalling it manually without any guidance.
    Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
    Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

    Try the troubleshooting steps under "FIx iWeb" here...

    Some times all it takes is deleting the .plist to fix this but do the restart and permissions repair if you haven't done this proceedure for a while.

  • "You may not be eligible" - anyone still having problems?

    Is anyone still having the problem when trying to apply for the $100 credit?
    Are you getting the "You may not be eligible" page, even though you know you are?
    Have you heard back from iPhone support or [email protected]?
    I haven't, I also havne't heard back from the manager from the 5th ave Apple Store. I just want to know what is going on and whether or not anyone else is still having problems or if anyone else has found a REAL solution?
    PLEASE DO NOT START BLASTING THIS POST, I WOULD LIIKE TO FIND A SOLUTION WITHOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING AND GETTING THIS POST REMOVED.
    THANKS,
    Gabe

    I was able to get my credit this weekend after being told I was initially ineligible.
    Turns out, as I assumed, someone entered in the wrong iPhone serial number for my device at AT&T so Apple never got the correct number.
    So, here's what I did to fix it.
    I had emailed [email protected] but I also called AT&T and got transferred to the iPhone AppleCare folks. I explained to them that I had never returned my phone, never got a replacement, and that I couldn't have a replacement phone because the IMEI number on my AT&T receipt (there was no iPhone serial number on my receipt, just the IMEI) and the IMEI on the back of my iPhone match. This is the number AT&T uses to validate my iPhone is a working device on their network.
    Anyway, after explaining this to the AppleCare folks, I was placed on hold for a good 15 minutes. When she returned she gave me a case number and told me to call Apple Customer Relations during business hours. However, about 2 hours later my credit worked on the web site. About 6 hours later I received an email from [email protected] that they fixed the data problem and I could get my credit. But by that time I'd already spent it =)
    So, the best thing for you to do is call AppleCare. If you don't get the resolution you're looking for, call back. I had to call a total of 5 times before getting a case number and before I got my credit.
    Good luck!

  • The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions

    Hi
    I originally posted this in the Windows 7 Networking forum and they advised to post it here.
    We use Windows 7 SP1 clients with Roaming Profile and Folder Redirection and they are connected to a Windows 2008 SP2 server.  We are getting issues when someone tries to open files on their redirected Desktop and they get the message "'The item
    referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions" if you click browse it then defaults to a different users profile.  If you click through the errors the file eventually loads.  If you open Word from
    the Start menu and then browse to the file it opens fine.  We have found that deleteting the Normal.DOTM file sometimes fixes the error, but only seems effective 50% of the time.  This doesn't happen for all users, and seems to occur in small
    groups and not all the time.  We have also had the same message come up with someone trying to open Word files an online learning resource we have created.
    There are a couple of events showing for about the time the error occured they are:

    The software protection message we get in clusters of about 6 or more multiple times through the day

    Hi
    An update.  We have approx 400 people with roaming profile/folder redirection on Windows 7/2008 and this only seems to have occurred to about 15 people, and then seems to clear up for a period and then happens again.  We also have a similar number
    of people with roaming profile/folder redirection on Windows 7/2003 system and we haven't had a report of this issue happening on this setup.
    So far we haven't been able to replicate the issue using a test account, so are struggling to find out what is causing it and why it is so random.

    I recently purchased an external hard drive to back up my iMovies. When I try to open the movies on the backup I get a message "you may not have permission to modify that folder" How do I change permissions on the backup?

    Hi
    One Must NEVER move or alter any folders named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Projects - or - alike
    on DESKTOP/FINDER - Ever ! - ONLY Within the iMovie Program ! else all connections are broken and hard to impossibly to mend !
    but rather do as described here under
    Moving Event's and Project's
    Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
    (Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
    A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
    B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
    C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
    on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
    D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
    E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
    Event's window can show two faces
    Like this
    or like this
    from one hard disk Event - You can move it to the other hard disk
    You can not (at least not me) move Event to Project or other way around only
    Event to Event and Project to Project
