HH5 - Guest computers default to BTFon

Apologies if this has been addressed already but no search brings me an answer.
My personal computers which never move out of the house, connect to my HH5 no problems but when a visitor brings a laptop in and attempts to connect they fail to connect, on research even though they are using DHCP they are picking up an IP address range that is not within my Home network range, they are selecting the range for BTFon/Openzone. I have to manually change the Laptop Network adapter settings to non-DHCP and set a static IP address etc to get them working. The same thing happened when I connected my Sky +HD box to the router, it too, despite specifying DHCP and SSID for my WiFi was setting an IP range outside my home network range.
Is this an HH5 problem? or is it Windows that is setting the IP address somehow?
Any assistance gratefully received.

Is it possible that the guest computers have the BTFon wireless network on a higher priority than your wireless network. ie they have their own hub connection at the top , then BTFon , then any other connections. If so all they need to do is promote your wireless connection higher than the BTFon so that the computer attempts to connect it before connecting to BTFon.

  • Back to my mac -- connect as guest is default

I have a couple of computers using 'back to my mac' screen sharing and file sharing with no problems (powerbooks, ibooks, mac mini(intel), and old G4). I just got a macbook pro and configured it with the same mobile me login info, etc, sync all mail/bookmarks/etc with no problems. However, when trying to connect to all other computers using screen sharing in the finder, it defaults to connect as guest. My mobile me credetials don't get used -- I have to specifically use an existing username/password from the maching i'm trying to connect to.
When I enable back to my mac, I do get an error saying teh router isn't configured for upnp, but it is -- four other machines are using it no problem this way with no problems.
Its only this laptop that has an issue. Firewall is off for all of this.
    Any suggestions?

I can't turn File Sharing off. I still want to file share. But I just don't want to connect to this "share" using the information that the Finder is defaulting to, and autoconnecting with. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I went through my entire KeyChain and I couldn't find anything that would account for this. It's as if the Finder thinks that because I connected to this share using my appleID once, it now defaults to this every time, and I have to actually disconnect and then reconnect with the login info that provides me the level of access that I require. Not sure if this makes sense.
I do appreciate the help. Thanks.

  • 802.1x Wireless Implementation with NPS - Guest computers access

    Hi guys,
I have a 802.1x network using NPS services in Windows server 2012 that I am testing right now with Windows 7 machines. Everything seems to be fine with corporate computer (connection and authentication are good). But I have an issue with guest computer (i.e
personal laptop). I am able to connect to my Enterprise wireless connection using my corporate credentials. Even if my personal laptop don't have any corporate certificate, the connection is granted because I use my credentials. Is there a way to use User
certificate AND computer certificate for wireless at the same time? So that personal laptop will not have access to the enterprise wireless network even if I enter my corporate credentials.
Let me know if you need more information.
    Thank you

    Hi,
One way to solve it would be to only allow "Domain Computers" or another computer Group in the NPS policy and then create a corresponding Group policy to only authenticate to the wireless with the computer account.
Another way would be to actually use the user certificate (instead of secured password that you are using now). That would require you to autoenroll user certificates though.

  • WRT1900AC Guest Logon

I ran into an interesting problem this evening.  I tried to give my father-in-law access to my "guest network" on his Samsung phone - an Adroid-based device.  I have previously tested the guest network on my Apple iMac and been able to successfully logon via connecting to the appropriate wi-fi "guest" network then opening a browser window and entering the correct guest password.
While his phone appeared to initially connect to the network aftering seeing it as a connection option, opening a browser window did not take him to the Linksys guest password page for some reason.  This inabilty to enter a password eventually failed to allow the wifi connection to work and prompted a connection error message.  I tried to disable access to the internet from his cellular network, ask his phone to forget my "guest network", then reconnect to the "guest" via wifi to force the phone to use wifi as the primary means of internet/network connection, but to no avail.
Has anyone encoutered this challenge?  I'm hoping to try re-connecting his phone when he comes over next weekend.

I guess I should also ask...do I need to put the guest's device MAC id into the system if I'm using MAC filtering for security?  I wasn't sure if MAC filtering (which I current use on my non-guest SSID connections) applies also to the "guest" network if it is enabled?
Hi. Mac filtering is not applicable for guest network because it is not using the same IP address for us to access the Linksys Smart Wifi page. The guest access is already secured in a way that the IP address is not the same with that of the main network. Therefore the people who has access to your guest network will be unable to connect to your main WiFi network. The guest devices connected has IP address of 192.168.1.33 (by default). I guess this also answers the question above about putting the MAC address of the guest computers on the MAC filter tab of the smart wifi router as they are not even seeing each other on the same network. Check this link for more info: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=b8a51120f90e4dc1809731561e5f102a_Configuring_wirel...
On the other hand, this router supports both guest and wireless security at the same time. For example, one laptop can connect to a guest network without having to type any password upon using the WiFi utility of the computer/device. It will only ask for a password once you're already about to open a website in your browser. Check this out: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=21449

  • E2500 with no guest password prompt

Try as I may, I cannot get the guest has no password or other security.
I reset the router to factory defaults.
I made sure it had the latest firmware.
I turned off guest wifi then turned it back on.
Guests CAN get online just fine, but it never prompts for the password that clearly shows on the relevant page.
Can anyone help me get it working with a password?

By default, the guest password when using E2500 is ‘guest’ all in lower case. You can verify it or even change this default password on the router’s setup page, Wireless tab>>>>Guest Access sub tab. The guest network is broadcasting as unsecured but when you connect to it and access a webpage, it is then that you will be asked for the guest password. And there is no need to worry since the guest network is different from the main wireless network. The devices connected to the guest network can’t see the devices connected to the main wireless network or vice versa, this is because they are not on the same IP range. The guest computers will be having an IP of 192.168.33.xx or 192.168.3.xx and the IP from the main wireless network is 192.168.1.xx, if the default IP address of the router was not changed. And please try to make sure that your wireless adapter is not connected to the main wireless network when you connect to the guest network, you might be connect to your main wireless network that is why you were able to go online wirelessly even if you select the guest network, it would be best to delete preferred wireless network if you will try the guest network.

  • Guest Portal HTML Code

    Dear All,
One of our client has a query related to guest portal default webpage that, if their application team can modify the default guest portal web page then how the sample code can be obtained ?
I found following link so kindly let me know if this will fullfill the requirement,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.0/user_guide/ise10_guest_pol.html#wp1128489
    Thanks

    Hi
The  link that you have provided,  will definitely be helpful. More over the  given below link will help you in configuration and whole  implementation.
The Cisco ISE Guest Service provides the following configurable default portals:
    • Guest portal
    • Sponsor portal
    • Device registration web authentication portal
The  Cisco ISE Guest Service supports customizable default portals to handle  Guest User login, as well as the ability to create and manage Guest  User accounts. Guest accounts are defined for specified time periods  that are established at the time of creation.
The  Guest User Portal is configured as the captive portal for WLC Local  WebAuth. In the case of wired NAD, a URL-redirect value is returned to  the NAD from Cisco ISE during an initial MAB lookup failure. The guest  is ultimately presented with a login page where they can enter a  username and password.

  • 2.1.5 Guest Network Connectivity

Has anyone see guest network connectivity issues on Oracle VM 2.1.5 Server? This seems to happen occasionally on many of our boxes - seems to be guests that have been up over 100 days. We found two fixes to restore network connectivity -
    1. Reboot guest
    2. Save/Restore Guest.
There is no traffic on the guest however the HV seems fine. Other guests on the same hypervisor seem fine as well. Just completely random. Guest OS doesn't seem to be the problem since we've had different OS with the same problem. It seems like the bridge just fails. We are using bonding and vlans on the HV. No error messages in any logs. The Link Detected: yes is still on in the failed guest - no packets can pass and on the physical switch port the MAC for the Guest is gone.
Has anyone else seen this? We haven't seen this in 2.2 yet but we haven't had too many guests up on 2.2 for that long. We've had two guests this week drop off the network.
I've opened a SR on metalink as well.
    -Scoleri

First I want to make sure I understand what you are trying to do. You have, for lack of a better word, "trusted" clients on the AEBS on the main wireless network and "untrusted" clients on the AEBS's Guest network.
You want to be able to access the untrusted clients, from the trusted. And you checked the "Allow guests network clients to communicate....." box.
If you check out the help in the AU for that box it says:
"If you want to allow guest computers to communicate with each other, make sure sharing services are set up on the client computers. Select the wireless device in AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup. Click AirPort in the toolbar, click Guest Network, and then select “Allow guest network clients to communicate with each other.”
I would take this check box to mean that intercommunication between clients connecting on the guest network is possible. Not to make a "firewall" like rule saying clients on the trusted side can talk to clients on the untrusted side.
I wonder if the previous version of firmware had the bug (that allowed the communication) was correct in 7.5.2?
Maybe a call to AppleCare is warranted to find out?
Also, if you feel this is an actual bug, then you can also sign up on ADC (its free) and file a bug.

  • IPhoto defaults to 72dpi??

I recently bought a Digital SLR camera and I'm in the process of taking some basic classes. The class instructor boldly claimed that we should never use iPhoto as a storage method because it automatically reduces all files to 72 dpi. I did a little test and imported to iPhoto and also copied original to desktop. I then exported and dragged and dropped a photo out of iPhoto along with the original. After comparing all three in Photoshop, they all showed 300 dpi in the Photshop image size panel, the resolution and file sizes were also identical. This leads me to believe the instructor is mistaken, but I have also read that iPhoto uses a 72 dpi image for viewing. So, my question is "Is there any truth behind the instructor's statement, or is just a case of not know how to export properly?"

I'm sure your instructor is a lovely person but s/he needs to go back to school. Seriously.
A photo on your computer has pixels. It does not have dpi - dots (or pixels) per inch. It simply has pixels. Why do I say this? Because your computer has no inches to have dots per...
A Photo displayed on your computer screen labeled 300 dpi looks exactly the same as one labeled 600dpi, 72 dpi or 1 dpi.
Dpi only becomes an issue when you go to print. Then when you decide your output size - 6 x 4, 10 x 8 or whatever - the density of the pixels (or dpi) becomes an issue and is decided.
iPhoto does not alter your file in any way on import. It's exactly the same filesize, same number of pixels and so on.
Most computers default to displaying at a nominal 72 dpi. But if they do, then the pixel dimensions (length x breadth) alter. What never changes is the key factor - the total number of pixels.
Have a look here for more on this. Feel free to forward the link to your instructor.

    TD

We have online Staff & Student Software that only will work properly using Fire Fox.  After visiting with the companies, they have no intentions of changing from Fire Fox to IE because of all the continuing issues with IE.

When creating a guest user account using lobby ambassador on wcs 4.2 the guest account defaults to 8 hours. I would like to change the default time to 1 day. Does anyone know how i can do this?
    Thanks!

Great. Also, I noticed that when using ACS to authenticate the user that creates guest accounts the lobby ambassador default settings don't apply to this user. Any ideas on how to correct this? Any estimated date when 5.1 will be released?

  • Setup Guest Network with OS X Server and Airport Extreme - NEED HELP!

    Hi All,
So I have a small business with a Mac Mini Server (10.6.5) and an Airport Extreme. The Airport is handling the routing and DHCP duties, while the Server is handling the DNS. The Airport is pointed to pull DNS from the Server. All internal systems work great accessing the internet and folders on the Server.
I need to setup a Guest network for internet access, so I turned this function on in the Airport Extreme. It sets up fine, but if you connect to that new Guest Network the system hangs trying to open a web page. My thinking is since the Server is the one handling the DNS it is not working for Guest computers since they are not part of our internal network. At least that is my theory, I could be wrong.
With this type of setup what do I need to modify to get this working? Anyone have any ideas?

After trying for days to figure this out I was finally able to get a working solution and I now have my APE providing a guest and main network while using my lion server as the Dsn server for the main network.
The setup is a bit of a hack and does require you to have at least two devices with staticly assigned ip information on the main network but it does allow you to serve dhcp for both networks from the server and make some services available to the guest network such as iTunes remote for parties.
    1) delete your custom Dns entries from the Internet settings in the APE and set two dhcp reservations for .2 and .3 (in this case my Mac mini server and my airport express)
    2) reduce the dhcp range to only have 2 available IPs (10.0.1.2-10.0.1.3) and save settings
    3) on a computer connected to the main network install wireshark and begin sniffing for packets. Connect at least one device to your guest network and look for any packets that have an ip from your guest network (usually 172.16.42.x) once you capture one of these packets expand the vlan information. This should list a vlan ID ( in my case this was 1003. I would suspect this is universal but do not know)
    4) on your server open network preferences, click the gear at the bottom and click "manage virtual interfaces", add a vlan that matches the vlan ID from above. Click ok and apply your settings. The vlan interface should get an ip in the guest network range from your APE.
    * if you are running lion you will need to install server admin tools before proceeding*
    5) open server admin and add the dhcp service. Create an entry for your primary network (ex: 10.0.1.x) make the dhcp range one higher than the settings in step 2 ( ie: 10.0.1.4 to 10.0.1.253) assign this to the physical interface. Make sure this entry has your internal DNA servers
    6) add another entry for the guest networks ip range (ex: 172.16.42.x) again set it one ip higher than step 2 ( 172.16.42.4 to 172.16.42.253) save and activate both ranges. Assign this range to the vlan interface. Make sure this entry either contains your isps dns servers or another public dns server. Turn on dhcp.
Because you have now assigned the only two addresses in the APEs pool for your primary network to static entries there will not be any addresses to assign and the APE will not respond to requests. This will allow your server to pick up the work of assigning IPs. As for your guest network, the APE will assign IPs for two host and then stop. Your clients may either get an IP from the APE or the osx server so both should have the same info. Just make sure the two static clients on your main network have the local DNA servers entered manually.

  • Root vs. admin softwareupdate via ARD 2.0

    Hello,
I've searched here and have not been able to find a similar post. I have an office of about 25 Tiger clients (10.4.6) which get their directory information via LDAP from a Tiger server(10.4.6). If I run softwareupdate from the GUI as an admin account or even from the command line as admin, softwareupdate looks to the local server, which is running the softwareupdate service. If, however, I run softwareupdate as root (which I have to do via ARD, from what I can tell) it checks Apple's servers and wants to download from them. This is a source of frustration because I don't want to have to visit every machine, nor do I prefer to download updates on my admin machine and then push the package out with ARD.
I'm wondering if using softwareupdate via root is designed to work this way, or if it's a bug. If it's a bug, I'll report it to Apple.
If this has happened to any of you, please resond with your solution.
By the way, if I send this command:
    sudo -u admin softwareupdate -i -a
via ARD as root user, I am prompted for a password, which I'm not sure how to enter. The task just fails.
    Thanks in advance!
    Sean

It sounds like your group is pushing out Workgroup Management (MCX) from your MacOS X Server box, specifically they are setting the Software Update server. But it sounds like they are setting this as a policy based on groups, rather than on computers. So since root is not in any of the groups managed by the MCX settings, when you run Software Update it is not set, and is defaulting to the built-in address.
If you really wanted to do it without making changes (if they don't want to put that in for "guest" computers and every other one), then you could use:
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://your.softwareupdateserver.com:8088/
note that that last goes all on one line, and is taken from afp548.com.

  • Quesiton about PVID , SA520, Native VLAN

Is PVID the same thing as "native vlan"? Can the native VLAN be changed on a SA520? Currently I believe it to be 1, I'd like to change the native VLAN to 10.
I have a scenario where I have a prexisting production LAN of  192.168.1.0/24 . It's a small organization (a church), but they purchased 3 Aironet 1130ag units. They want to have a "private" WLAN that is part of 192.168.1.0/24 , and a guest WLAN of a different subnet (I chose 192.168.20.0/24) . The two should never meet. There will likely never be a guest computer connected via ethernet. Guest computers would always have to connect wirelessly.
I accomplished this to a point.
    I left VLAN 1 on the SA520 192.168.75.0/24 subnet as default.I created a VLAN 10 , 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, and I created a VLAN 20, 192.168.20.0/24 subnet.
    VLAN Recap:
    VLAN 1 , 192.168.75.0/24
    VLAN 10, 192.168.1.0/24
    VLLAN 20, 192.168.20.0/34
Ports 1-3 of the SA520 are members of VLAN 1, 10, and 20 (cannot remove membership of VLAN1, which is pretty annoying).
The Aironets have been configured correctly.
SSID: Priv is part of VLAN 10
SSID: Pub is part of VLAN 20
Both are secured by WPA, and when I connect, the proper DHCP subnet passes from the firewall through to the wireless client, for each respective SSID.
Ultimately, I'd like the SBS 2003 server to handle DHCP for VLAN 10, and have the SA520 handle DHCP for VLAN 20, but i'll take what I can get.
    Here's my challenge:
The original production LAN is connected via an unmanged switch.
I'd like to trunk the unmanaged switch to Port 4 on the SA520. However, since the PVID (native vlan?) of SA520 is 1, and I cannot make Port 4 on the SA520 ony a member of VLAN 10, then anything traffic coming from the unanaged switch will automatically be tagged with VLAN1, correct? Thus causing the already existing production network to start receiving DHCP from the firewall in the 192.168.75.0/24 range.
Any ideas or help on the above?
What I would do if I had a managed switch on the production LAN:
If I had a managed switch on the production LAN, what I think I would do is make one port a trunk port, connect that port to Port 4 on the SA520, then make all the rest of the ports on the managed switch access ports, and members of VLAN 10. Am I on the right track there?
Hiccups when setting up the WAP:
I would have changed the VLAN 1 on SA520 to 192.168.1.0/24  subnet, and only created a second subnet, but there was a challenge  with that and the WAP's.
Cannot change the VLAN the dot11radio0 is a part of. There's not encapsulation command.
Could  not broadcast the SSID's successfully and secure via WPA unless the  SSID's were on VLAN's other than 1. The dot11radio0 would go into a  "reset" state.
Could change the VLAN subinterfaces  of dot11radio0 were on, for example dot11radio0.10 is a member of VLAN  10.  Dot11radio0.20 is a member of VLAN2.
In any event, it's working, but the rest of the infrastructure is the challenge.
Here's one of my  WAP configs as an example:

    Hello Paul,
You have a lot going on here so forgive me if I miss something.
PVID is for Primary/Port Vlan ID. It is used to identify the vlan on a port and can be used to change the native vlan of a port. You can change the PVID on port 4 of the SA520 to be vlan 10 if you need to.
The simplest setup would be for you to have your private network all be on the native vlan 1 and set your guest to be on another vlan. All of this would be possible without any problem on the SA520. Unfortunately I do not have much experience with the Aironet APs but they should allow you to continue this configuration onto the wireless network. For assistance with the Aironet APs I would have to refer you to someone more familiar.
I do hope this helps with setting your network.

  • Problem loading internal web auth page when heavy load

    Hi
I am troubleshooting a wireless-problem related to the internal web authentication page. Simply, when 5-10 computers opens the web browser and got redirected to the 1.1.1.1-page, no problem. But when 20+ computers do this simultanously half of them takes up to a minute to load the web page.
    WiSM:s running latest 6.x-code and 1131 LAP:s.
Anyone experienced the same or know what this can be related to?
    Br Jimmy
