HHActiveX.dll  - Windows Explorer open folders in separate window (Win7/ Vista)

Windows Explorer will open folders in a separate window when you double click them.
Adobe RoboHelp HTML 8 with update 1 and 2 installed sequentially on Windows XP.
HHActiveX.dll  8.0.0.203 registered by installer
Problem:
What we're seeing is, after installing HHActiveX.dll with our product suite on a 32-bit Windows 7 system (and probably Vista also), after rebooting the computer, Windows Explorer will open folders in a separate window when you double click them. This occurs even when Windows Explorer is set to open them in the same window.
Solution:
This seems to have something to do with the registration of actxprxy.dll and/or ieproxy.dll. Reregistering these DLLs and rebooting usually fixes this problem.
This web article mentions side effects in Internet Explorer and a couple of other programs that also come from this.
Here's a web page that outlines what we're seeing and how to fix it manually:
http://www.davidmoore.info/2009/08/19/solution-explorer-open-each-folder-in-same-window-er ror-and-sql-management-studio-ie-and-team-explorer-errors/
In Windows 7 (and probably Vista also), the GUID of this library has changed from {B8DA6310-E19B-11D0-933C-00A0C90DCAA9} to {C90250F3-4D7D-4991-9B69-A5C5BC1C2AE6}. Also, the registry entries that are concerned with actxprxy.dll are under HKCR\CLSID\{B8DA6310-E19B-11D0-933C-00A0C90DCAA9}; the last component in that registry path is the old GUID, and that's probably what is causing the problem.
Questions:
The previous approach provides a way to fix the problem by adding some code to reregister the two DLLs at the end of the install. The developer would prefer not to have to add install code to fix this problem in the first place.
1) Is this a known issue with Adobe HHActiveX.dll and Windows 7 / Vista? (I didn't find much with a web search or in Adobe Forums.)
2) Is a newer HHActiveX.dll available to fix this issue?
3) Does Adobe have a fix for the Windows Explorer problem that this DLL is causing in Windows 7 (and probably Vista also).
4) Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi,
Here is what the developer did to fix the issue.
MSI Install: The installer is unregistering actxprxy.dll and ieproxy.dll on Windows 7 32-bit PCs
Problem: The problem was being caused by Adobe's HHActiveX.dll, a DLL that we have to install because of the browse sequences/ glossary in the new application help. This DLL was registering itself against actxprxy.dll using the GUID that was in use prior to Vista; and that in turn caused the Windows Explorer problem, among others.
Fix: Added a custom action that is called after the application is installed (or reinstalled or upgraded) that reregisters the 32-bit actxprxy.dll and ieproxy.dll. (Since the problem doesn't manifest itself on 64-bit systems, the custom action leaves the 64-bit actxprxy.dll and ieproxy.dll as they are.) Rolled back the registry deletions that were done in the Shared - help third party merge module in the previous attempt to fix this bug, as those changes were found to be unnecessary.

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :

    Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:

  • Links created in Word, now in the pdf they won't open in a separate window

I created links in my Word documents, then converted this file to a pdf. Now when I open the pdf and click on a link it open in the same window and I am unable to get back to my original document. Is there a setting somewhere to make the links open in a separate window?

Pat, thanks for your reply. I finally had some time to look further into this problem and still trying to figure out. First to answer your questions:
what is your operating system & version? Windows 7 Professional
on what browser(s) does that happen? Google Chrome, Firefox, IE
does it happen for any PDF link, e.g. this? Yes, any link with a pdf extension
does it still hapen with the latest Reader version 10.1.4? Yes, just downloaded it last week and still the same.
Another thing I noticed is afer unsuccessfully trying to access the pdf link, the resulting blank page reads "Could not load Adobe Acrobat" (could not load plug-in).
I do have Adobe Creative Suite 3 installed, which of course provides for Adobe Acrobat; I'm not sure if there is a conflict there, but I might uninstall everything and then just try with Adobe Reader to see from there.
I hope some of this helps. I appreciate your efforts in trying to assist.
    Cheers,
    Vinnie.

  • I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

The top screenshot is the Windows Open dialog box. All File > Open... commands in all Windows programs bring it up.   Try File > Open in Notepad for example.
It belongs to Windows not Adobe. You cannot change this because there is no such thing as an Adobe Open dialog box.
The bottom screenshot is Windows Explorer. It is Windows' OS File Browser, not an Open dialog.  It is not called up by Photoshop or any Windows program.
You have to click on "My Computer" or a Folder icon to get to it. You can double-click a psd, jpeg or other image file in the Explorer window so that it opens in Photoshop.
There is Adobe Bridge and Minibridge   Alt + Ctrl + O or File > Browse in Bridge

  • Open in a separate window

I use Adobe Prof. to make my PDF
I want my pdf to open in a separate window on my website.
I found I should follow these steps-below- however it doesn't seem to work
    Edit> preferences> general> internet> uncheck display pdf in brower.
When I go to open is show url doesn't exist.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

    Sandy,
This is not something controlled by Acrobat. If you are posting the pdf
through html, then you need to write code the will open a new window.

  • Iview not opening in a separate Window

    Hello Experts,
We have an Iview for approving/rejecting apprasials for Manager. The Iview Id is PddDirect. In order to open this iview in a separate window we have set "Launch in New Window" property to "Display in separate window".  This Iview is assigned to a page and that page to a workset then this finally this workset is assigned to a MSS Role. This Iview opens in a separate window when accessed through MSS Role.
Once any employee submits his appraisal Manager gets a link in email to access this appraisal document to approve/reject.
    [http://host:port/irj/portal/?NavigationTarget=ROLES://portal_content/com.ABC.ABCContent/com.ABC.HRSE1/com.ABC.iViews/com.ABC.PddDirect&DynamicParameter=ID=014D1089964C1400E2E10080000A104E240000X]
When manager clicks on the link to access document it opens in the Content Area of portal even though the property is set to separate window.
When the same thing is done by loging into  ESS/MSS portal the same Iview opens in a separate window.
Could anyone put some light on the wierd behaviour of this particular Iview.
    Thanks
    Surender Dahiya

    Hi Surendra
As you are telling when manager clicks on the link to access document it opens.
Can you  try with changing the property of ["Launch in New Window"  "Display in separate window"] of the Source iView i.e where the link is available also you can change target.
If  iViews are  assigned to pages change the corresponding page properties also. Make sure clear cache of the Iview and Clear history of browser and test the same.

  • I want to open folders in new windows on 10.9.4.

This was always my default setting, but it seems to have disappeared.  Apple is ******** in changing essential workflows that people have been using for years.  There should be 2 options, open in new window, or not.  Give us back the option Apple.

    http://siggi.hk/index.php?action=TheLostFinderNewWindow
This is a SIMBL plugin that will bring back the old behaviour of always opening folders in new windows, a feature that existed since the first Mac OS in 1984 all the way up to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion before Apple stupidly removed it in OS X 10.9 Mavericks. This works a treat.

Why is my Mac pro slow to Open folders in a Windows SMB share?   We use a Windows Server for graphics storage and I can open the share just fine, but when I attempt to open folders within that share it takes sometimes as long at 15 minutes to display the contents of the folders.  This happend before and I switched to the other NIC port, but now it is doing it in both.  I can open other connections to Windows SMB shares with no problem.

  • How to restrict "Open Applications" window from showing C drive? Or use the Windows Explorer "Open" Window?

Hi, Im new to JDeveloper and I work in a school which requires restriction of the C: Drive. Does any one know how I can either stop the "Open Applications" dialog from showing this drive or Use the Windows Explorer "Open" dialog window to browse files, the drive has been hidden and restricted using GPO but JDeveloper shows the C: drive?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Hi and thanks Timo. We are using 12c. On the Windows side of things, we are using Win7 and we have hidden the drives we don't want the user to see using GPO but obviously Jdev then shows these drives in its "Open Applications" Window and allows access. As far as the environmental variable is concerned this is something that I put in place.
Many thanks for your reply and the link to the tech doc.

  • How set up multiple homepages to open in a separate window (not a tab) when desired...

I would like to setup and be able to click on a Firefox profile (I assume profile) or pass parameters to the firefox.exe and have firefox open about 6 separate windows (not tabs) set to different home pages.
If I use the Pipe Symbol in Options, it will open separate tabs but also ause the probelm below which I also would like to solve.
A lot of times I also want to run another instance of firefox by clicking on the Firefox icon in my quick launch tray and DO NOT want it to open up all of these sites again.
    How is this best achieved?
In the past I just opened up each site individually in its own window.
    Thanks very much
    Peter

You can create multiple shortcuts on the desktop and include the URL to the command line and use the -new-window switch to specify a new window.<br />
You need to use the -new-window switch for each URL (-new-window URL1 -new-window URL2).<br />
If the command line gets to long then you need to use a CMD file to store the full command line (start "" firefox.exe -new-window etc.).

  • Simple but Urgent -- Iview when opened in a separate window

    Hi,
    I made iview's property :
Launch in a New window :  Display in a separate window .
So when the user logged in and  clicked on that  iview , It is opening in a separate window --
But width around 30% (that is not full width ), height ok .
So , Can any one tell me so that the iview must be opened in a separate window with 100% height and 100%width .
    Regards,
    Srini

    Hi Srinivasrao,
As you said you are launching in  a new window. so in property editor of that iview just check with the properties Height,Width of external window and you can change the height type of the iview to full page insteat of fixed .and check the parameter of the window features . I hope this'll solve your problem.

  • Windows Explorer Refuses to Open Folders In Same Window

I have Windows Vista Ultimate SP1. Under Organize->Folder and Search Options->Browse folders I have the radio button, "Open each folder in the same window" checked. However, Vista refuses to do so and opens each folder in its own window. This does not work well for me because I end up with tons of open windows and its a pain to close them. This behaviour just started. Yesterday it did not do this. This is a fresh install with only Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2005, Expression Studio 2, Adobe CS3 and InstallAware installed.
Also worth noting is that if I right click on a folder, the default action of Open is in bold. If I click it then it will open the folder in the same window. However, every time I double click it opens a new window.
Please help as I really don't want to have to switch to a third party file management tool over this.
    Thanks!

    Guys,
This problem has been driving me nuts for weeks now. I've cruised this and several other forums, and tried every damn "fix" out there.
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM (All updates applied)
I've done registry edits, registered .dll files, changed folder option settings back and forth, uninstalled software, re-installed software,  etc, etc.. Ad nauseam. (I
don't have IE8 or Source Gear Vault) Although both of these seem to come up often in these discussions.
I bumbled into something on one these forums, and    ** I FOUND THE SOLUTION!**
It is very easy to do
Presumably SAFE (It comes from Microsoft)
I suggest you bookmark this site for future use. (I did, and plan on using it for some of my clients computers
    when having weird problems)
Go to this web site: http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/
Then, in section 2 click on "Use desktop features, or open programs and files"
In the window below will be a list of solutions. Simply "Run Now" the one called : Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically
After running the "fixit" my problem of a new window opening all the time in Windows Explorer went away! Worked perfect!
Ps.  In my Browser rather than running when I clicked "Run",  it downloaded the file. So I ran it locally. No big deal, they suggest doing that anyway if you need the file to run on a computer that is not online. When I ran the program I chose
the second option, which is to NOT fix the problem automatically, but to see a list of repair options first. (rather than choosing to repair automatically)
    My results were two things:
Rebuild my icon cache (didn't really have troubles with that anyway)
    Repair folder options
I decided to let it "fix" both problems, even though I haven't had any problems with icons. After the program finished (about 20 sec) I checked and no longer had the problem of a new window opening in explorer, however the acid test was going to be will
it continue to work properly after I re-boot. Guess what? PROBLEM WAS FINALLY SOLVED!
Anyway, I hope this works for any of you guys too. I see that "some" of these other solutions worked for some of you, but none of them worked for me until I ran the "FIXIT" program from Microsoft. There is also a
ton of other AUTOMATIC FIXIT's on the site for various other computer problems. I hope they all work as well as this one did! (I'll try to post this in some of the other forums, but feel free to do so yourself)
    Good luck everyone.....

  • Followup on archived thread re Opening Bookmarks in Separate Window with FULL FUNCTIONALITY not Annoying Limits

First, I find it annoying that relatively recent threads are closed so quickly, especially when good solutions aren't found to the questions posed.
In this case, I see someone else wanted to open their bookmarks in a new window, not a tab or sidebar.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984381#answer-526189
The 'chosen' answer provided was use Ctrl Shift B. That does open the Library in a separate window.
But for me that's totally inadequate, because one can only view the contents of one folder at a time. And I have hundreds. The person posing the question replied that detailed information on each bookmark is not displayed that way either. In my case, with a large and developed bookmark tree, that telescoping two panel view poses an unworkable limitation. And one that kept me at FF 3.6.28 until a year ago, when I found an answer to that problem, and this gentleman's also, I believe.
I'm now using FF 27, with the All In One Sidebar extension. I believe that adds a Bookmarks Icon with a Star at the top of a new sidebar.
If set up properly (see customize), left clicking allows you to "display your bookmarks" as a Sidebar, New Tab or New Window. But more importantly, in the New Window at least, it is not in the dreaded two pane mode where I can only view the contents of a single selected folder at any one time. Instead, I can open multiple folders at one time and see multiple individual bookmarks, buried in separate folders or subfolders, at one time. Ie, the same hierarchical layout that used be available before FF 4 changed the whole bookmarks architecture. So, when I open a new folder to view its contents, it doesn't close the prior folder automatically. And that's the way it should be. Users should have options, not have particular behavior imposed on them. Now, I'm not confident that I can upgrade to a newer FF as I was not readily able to get the same functionality out of AIOS using a more recent version of FF. But I didn't try hard, so it might also work with newer versions. Perhaps someone can verify that.

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984381#answer-526189
This thread was closed so quickly? That thread is '''''just over a year old'''''. Threads get archived after 6 months, or later when the thread isn't "Solved" and receives new postings later on. And the Chosen Solution in that thread was to use '''chrome://browser/content/bookmarks/bookmarksPanel.xul''' in the URL bar (or a Bookmark).
As far as older versions of Firefox and how they worked, you are mistaken about how Firefox 3.6.xx works - basically the same as the later versions all the way up the the current Firefox 35 Release version. In the Library window ''(Show All Bookmarks)'', select a folder in the left pane and view the contents of that folder in the right pane - is the same now as it was in Firefox 3.0, with few minor changes.
The last version that had the old Bookmarks Manager window, where you could have multiple folders open in the right pane was Firefox 2.0.0.20. Firefox 3.0 was the first version that had the current Library window scheme. Firefox 3.0 was where the major change to the Show All Bookmarks occurred.''The reason that I am so sure of when those changes occurred is that I have every version of Firefox from 2.0.0.20 all the way up to the current Nightly 38.0a1 version installed; I didn't rely on my memory of those old version changes - I just viewed them to answer this thread.''
Regardless of how each individual user thinks Firefox "should work", it works they way Mozilla decided it should work. If you don't like the way the standard features work you can always install extensions that do have the features you want. Mozilla doesn't impose anything on their users; don't like something find an extension that does it better for you. And it an extension doesn't exist; learn to create those features yourself by building your own extension. Still not good enough; use a different browser that works the way you think it should work.
As far as updating to Firefox 35 goes, use the Firefox Portable version to experiment with, so you don't risk your current installation in case you don't like the new version.
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Just install it to your hard drive; it won't affect your current installation in any way, shape, or form.
