Hi,  I'd like to drag and drop some of my iTunes 11 music onto a

former WD backup bootable drive to later view/and play on a PC laptop running a Microsoft OS.  What problems might I encounter for compatibilty?  The laptop is a new ssd drive Toshiba with a factory "media player".
Thank you,
Scott

As I said before, Windows can't read Mac formatted drives without special software.  My information may be out of date but Macs can't write to NTFS (standard Windows format) drive but can read (the opposite of what you want to do).  Both Macs and Windows can read/write to FAT formatted drives.  FAT is an older Windows format and has certain disadvantages when it comes to huge files (>4GB) but should work in your case.  However, it will require you completely erase the drive and reformat it to "MS-DOS" (again with reference to my older operating system).

If I were to drag and drop files from an OSX 9 onto an external hard drive (1 TB), assuming there is still plenty of space left, will I be able to use this same external hard drive to back up my iMac (Mountain Lion)?  And would it ask me if I want to initialize (thus erasing it) or eject the hard drive like the OSX 9 did?

I was trying to follow this thread because I was curious about the OS 9 installation - until I realized you have another thread going about the very same subject, albeit with a different subject line.
FWIW: it is best not to double post - things get far too confusing after a while.

split the region at the 28th measure

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
then select only the first region and option-drag it to the end of the song

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
There are 3rd party utilities available that "rip" content into a compatible format - most include an iPod and/or iPhone format selection. If a video plays in iTunes, iTunes includes an option to convert a selection for iPod/iPhone.

  • Win 7 Drag and Drop stopped working after iTunes update

I really hope that this is the right sub-forum for this.
    Here goes:
A few days ago I finally upgraded to 9.1.1.12 and today I was in for a nasty surprise: I can't move MP3s from windows explorer into the iTunes window any more.
I often create playlists and then drag files I get from a few bands I follow directly into those playlists. This is an easy and painless process. My FTP client downloads the files into a prearranged folder whenever they get a new song up, and I then open said folder and drag and drop the file into iTunes.
I just got a new song to listen to today, wanted to drag it in an... Nothing. Just the black, crossed-through circle of "No".
It worked last week. It worked the week before. It worked the years before.
I got Win7 64 in April. It worked on it since then.
    It stopped working today.
And no, I won't let iTunes consolidate or organize my media. It only organizes files bought via the iTunes store, nothing I rip from CDs or obtain otherwise, as those files have to be playable by two other players as well. But, again: Until this night it worked without a problem. And after the new update... Stopped.
Is there a new option I'm missing?

I was able to fix it.
I simply stopped running iTunes in Admin mode. For some reason, running it in administrator mode makes it behave "worse" than not doing so.
When I ran it as a normal program, I was able to drag files into it correctly again.
Which is weird, as the last version was also running in admin mode, but worked perfectly.

  • How can I drag and drop lectures within an itunes U album so that they appear in order after syncing with my iphone?

Whenever I download audio iTunes U lectures, they don't show up in the order in which they were recorded and therefore do not sync in order on my iphone.  There is no sorting option to sort by date recorded.  All I want to do is drag and drop the individual lectures to their proper location so that they will be in order by recording date.  Anyone have the secret?

This problem started last year when ios 8 was released. I think apple is trying to force users to buy music on iTunes store and that's why it's impossible to sync other music and also that's the reason why they haven't solved this serious problem. That's really disappoints me and i'm angry with apple because i have like 10 gb of music in mp3 and i can't sync music from iTunes to my iPhone.

  • Any "drag and drop" tricks for transferring TM backups onto new drive?

I've read many of the previous threads like mine, but my situation seems to be unique.
I have a damaged Time machine disk that is corrupted and can't be repaired by any disk utility programs. And I want to temporarily transfer the TM backups to another hard drive while I reformat the TM disk. I have snow leopard, but the finder won't let me drag and drop my time machine backups (Backups.backupdb) onto a new drive. I get the same "The backup can’t be copied because the backup volume doesn’t have ownership enabled" error. However, when I get info on the drive I want to transfer the backups to and uncheck "ignore ownership on this volume", I still get an error when dragging and dropping the time machine backups. The new error reads "This operation can't be completed because it isn't supported."
Are there any other things I can try to get drag and drop to work? I would have used the methods described above (clone the TM drive using disk utility or CCC), but I can't do that as my time machine disk contains a lot of other items besides the TM backups, and the disk I'm trying to drag the TM backups too is actually smaller than the TM disk. Since my TM disk is corrupted, I can't delete the extra files on the disk to make a clone that would fit on my smaller new disk. So I'm unable to clone my TM disk because it's too big. Is there any other way to make the drag and drop work in snow leopard? Everyone says it should, but I've been unable to get it to work.

That cannot be done. If the backups are corrupted beyond repair, they're useless. Even if you manage to "clone" them, the copy will also be corrupted beyond repair and useless.
my time machine disk contains a lot of other items besides the TM backups
That's a problem, too. See #3 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
Copy as much of the "other" stuff somewhere temporarily, reformat the disk into (at least) two partitions (see #5 in the FAQ Tip), copy the data back, and start TM fresh on it's own, exclusive partition.
Or, depending on the age of the disk, I'm not sure I'd trust my backups to it. It might be smartest to replace it. Use the old drive for the "other" stuff, and the new drive exclusively for TM backups of both your internal and the "other" external.

  • Drag and drop not working in itunes?

I've recentlt udated to Snow Leopard and my itunes id up to date. First thing I noticed is that many things I used to do via drag and drop won't work anymore. or instance, i create a play list then I want to dag songs to it but it won't do it. I have to right click on the file and then select 'add to play list' and choose which playlist to add to. next, I want to rearrange the order of songs in a playlist and before I wold just click on the song and drag it up or down into the spot I want. Well It won't let me do it. Basically you need to add tracks in the order you want the first time.
What's going on here, is this the way it is now or am I doing something wrong. BTW, I'm a long time mac user (since early 90s) and this is the most non intuitive experience I have ever had on a mac.

well I discovered the problem after some research. It seems that if you have a wacom tablet and mouse, your mac won't allow you to do some drag and drop features. I have a microsoft mouse attached as well and it works fine.

  • Drag and Drop not working in iTunes 12.1.0.71

I've been working with iTunes on a PC for years - so I'm embarrassed I can't figure this out.  As recently as a few weeks ago, I could drag and drop movies and music from Windows Explorer into iTunes 12.1.0.71- now it's not working.  Even using the menus for File - Add File to the Library isn't working.  Did something change in this release?

Sorry 1 correction on my earlier post.  Install iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16) NOT 12.1.0.71!
Thanks Guys!  This fixed me up.
    I uninstalled
    - All  Apple Packages
    - Bonjour
    - iTunes
    - Quick Time packages
Deleted the Apple, iTunes, & Quick Times folders:
    - c:\Program Files
    - c:\Program Files (x86)
    - C:\Program Data
    - C:\Users\%profile%\AppData\Local
    - C:\Users\%profile%\AppData\LocalLow
    - C:\Users\%profile%\AppData\Roaming
    Rebooted

    Installed the newest QuickTime 7.7.6
and Bingo!  Hopefully the next iTunes release addresses the issue moving forward.

  • Can I just drag and drop song files into iTunes?

I have about 50 folders on my PC (Windows 7), each containing between 5 and 15 songs. These are under My Music/ on the PC.
On my Mac, I have about 1000 songs with about 25 Playlists. Some of these Playlists on the Mac contain the same songs as in the folders of the PC.
I want to transfer the songs from the PC to the Mac. I did not want to go through them one by one on each computer to see which of the files on the PC were already on the Mac.
I can look at the PC (My Music) folders and the Mac (iTunes) Playlists side by side on the Mac.
If I see a missing song on the Mac Playlist folder, can I just drag and drop that particular song from the PC folder into the Mac Playlist?
If I see that a Playlist does not exist that would need to be available for the specific folder contents on the PC, can I create the Playlist on the Mac and then, drag and drop all of the songs from the PC folder to the new Playlist?
Would this be the easiest way to accomplish the transfer of the songs?
    Thanks

If I understand that all correctly then yes.

  • I can't drag and drop movies from my hard drive onto my iPad.

I just recently upgraded from an iPad to an iPad 2. I still have the old iPad. I have no problem dragging and dropping movies and TV shows from my external hard drive onto my old iPad, but I can't seem to do it with the iPad 2. It syncs movies and TV shows from iTunes, but I don't want to have to load everything into iTunes just to get it onto my iPad. Again, no problems doing it with the old iPad. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

No I didn't - checked it, and now it works! I guess I forgot about setting that feature up when I got my first iPad. Thanks Allan!

  • Drag-and-drop option or just iTunes

Hi there! I'm thinking of buying an iPod but I travel a lot, meaning that usually I have to uploadmusic from my portable harddrive using a random PC in a random cyber cafe. Thus, I can't instal iTunes on evetry new machine I'll be using. Hence, is there an alternative to iTunes? I used to have a Sony MP3 player and they had such an option (MP3 Manager).
    Cheers!
    Anton

No drag and drop for the iPod. Where are you getting the music from in a cyber cafe?

  • Drag and Drop stopped working in iTunes

Just recently upgraded to latest iTunes 10.4, OS X 10.5.8 and Wacom driver 6.1.6-4. Drag and drop a selection to a playlist in iTunes no longer works. All was fine before iTunes/OS upgrade. Only upgraded Wacom to see if it made a difference which it didn't. Dragging and dropping with a USB mouse seems okay. I've noticed several similar problems on this board with no solution. Anyone else having this issue that has found a solution? Thanks.

Your case sounds very similar to mine.  I a bit older Mac G5 running OS X 10.5.8.  When I upgraded to iTunes 10.4 I found the drag and drop gone and a few other inconsistencies.  I reloaded iTunes and now everything works pretty well, but if I go into the iTunes Store my drag and drop feature goes away.  If i relaunch iTunes it comes back until I go in the Store again.  Hoping someone more familiar with the OS and application details can point me in some direction.  Thx

  • Drag and Drop not working in iTunes (Mountain Lion)

    Hello,
Earlier today the drag and drop function in iTunes stopped working.
It was working yesterday and this morning, but no longer.
I have not updated any software in a few days, but I did install
JAVA 7 right before it stopped working. I have since deleted the Java 7 files
in Library necessary for ridding my computer of it.
Drag and drop is still fully functional in Finder, Mail, etc
It seems to be broken only in iTunes.
I don't have any clue why this has happened.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    iTunes 10.7 (21) 64bit
    Mac OS X 10.8.2

    Does anybody have any ideas?
I've updated to the new version of iTunes since I originally posted this,
but the drag and drop feature is still not working. This is making it
impossible for me to update anything on my iPod.
    Thanks!

  • Can't Drag and Drop to iPhone using iTunes 10.7.0.21

I cant manually drag and drop my video files to my iPhone using iTunes. When I click on my device and go to summary and check "Manually manage music and videos"  and click apply I get a message saying " The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with another library?"
" An iPhone can be synced with only ones iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents, of this phone with the contents of this iTunes library"
My options are to erase and sync or cancel. I do not want to erase the contents of my iPhone can anyone help?

To recap... here is a fuller version of my advice on "how to move a library from one computer to another."
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.
As I said in the other thread if you want to be certain of attracting my attention simply post into either of these threads to which I've already posted. These come to the top my active list whenever a new post is added to the thread. Otherwise I keep a general lookout across a number of forums for the threads where I think I can help, but I don't get to read everything...
