Hide column based on prompt
Hi Gurus,
Can i hide column based on Prompt value?
My requirement is
I have report is showing Daily/Weekly/Monthly data based on prompt value ( Prompt selected values are Daily/Weekly/Monthly)
If user select daily then report will display data every day. if user select Weekly then report will display Every week data ( Week start from Monday).
I have one more columns as Day name to display day of the week for daily report. its working fine.
but i want hide day name column when i run report for weekly.
How can i hide column based on Prompt value. is it possible in OBIEE 10.3
really appreciated for your help
Here's simpler approach. Use column selectors.
1) The first column in your column selector will be where you put your Daily/Weekly/Monthly choices.
2) In the second column, put your Day column. Add another column, doesn't matter what. I'll explain later. In the caption for this column, put in something like "Select to Hide Day column."
3) Click "OK" and put your column selector in your Compound Layout.
4) Now, select the other column in place of the Day column.
5) Now go to the criteria tab. The "second choice" column should now be there in place of the original first column. Dummy out this column and click on the "Hide" checkbox in the column properties. Change the name to "No column."
6) Now go back to Results. The user now has two choices for the Day column, either the original column (the Day column) or the "No column" choice. When the "No column" choice is selected, the column disappears from the report. Users can make the selection whenever they choose Weekly as their choice.

Dispaly or Hide a column based on Prompt Value
Hi All,
How can I Display or Hide a Column based on Prompt Value selected?
On my dashboard I have a Report/Request and a Dashboard Prompt.
Dashboard Prompt has three values, say: *'A', 'B' and 'C'*.
And my report/request has three columns named *'Field1', 'Field2'* and Field3'.
What I am trying to achieve is that whenever user selects prompt values as *'A' or 'B'* all the three fields on my report named *'Field1', 'Field2' and Field3'* should be displayed, however whenever user selects prompt values as *'C'* only fields named *'Field1' and 'Field2'* should be displayed.
Thanks,
DeepakHi Bhavna,
I tried using View Selector, however I am not able to achieve the required functionality with that.
I created a Request with 3 columns in it, then I switched to criteria and added another table to that. The new table automatically got the similar 3 columns used in the first report. Now when I tried to delete one of those columns from the new report, it also got deleted from the first report.
All the views are dependent, changes made to one are reflected in other.
Can't figure it out, where am I going wrong?
Thanks,
Deepak -

Hide columns based on Authorization
Experts,
In a report i would like to hide few columns based on the authorization, only few users should be able to see
these columns but rest of the users should be able to view the report but not these columns. these columns
should either not visible on the report or display ****** for the data of these columns.
I tried to create authorization object in RSECADMIN but the problem is if a user doesn't have this
authorization he cannot even view the report it display the message "No Authorization".
any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Hi Geni,
You have two choice.
1. Override the column value to **** using virtual characteristics code
Assign a role to users who has authorization to see the columns
In Virtual charachteristics code, read table AGR_USERS table based on the sy-uname
If the role that is assigned for the columns is found do nothing, else overwrite it with ****
2. Create a User exit variable, in the variable code read the authorization of the user like above
If the role found assign 1 else assign 0.
Create a formula in the columns area and multiply your column value with the user exit variable value.
Suppress zero columns using the query properties.
Good luck,

Hide column based on condition on other column in table
hi,
am using BIP 10.1.3.2 to generate reports. In the template i need to hide one column based on condition on other.am using SQL query as my data source type.can anybody help me ?Use <?if:?> condition in the RTF, but its mainly for the rows not column. You can work around this by handeling in backend. Or take two separate tables, one with the column which you want to hide and another table without that column and before calling that table use IF condition.

Previous 4 months column need to be displayed based on prompt selection
Hi,
I have prompt named
JAN
FEB
DEC
and i have 12 columns from month1 to month 12(jan to dec)
when i select august from prompt i need to display 4 month previous of august
so my result should be
apr,may,jun,jul and august
if i select february then my result should be
jan and feb
basically i need to hide columns based on prompt selection
can i know how to do thisHi
I think you have to go for Data level Security in this case.
You have to set that Session variable in the Group/User Permissions tab so that the Group members can see only those regions data only, even if they go for a
search.
Otherwise there is nothing to restrict the user in all the directions.
You have to apply that filter on all the tables in that Subject area.
Hope this will help you.
Guys, Please correct me if I am wrong
thanks

Are u using the Excel based Analyzer as your Front End?
If so you can run a small VBA (on event SAPBEXonrefresh) that will hide columns based on the value of the cell that displays the value of the variable that the user is setting.
See code i posted in Re: How do I make cells "0" and not blank for an example.
Is this what you are after?
Hope it helps,

Hide or show a column based on a parameter?
I have a parameter that has two values linked to 2 fields and included in my SQL query. I would like to hide or show columns based on the parameter value chosen for other fields. How do I begin to write the expression?
Hi KittyCat101,
Based on my understanding, you want to display columns dynamically based on a parameter, right?
In your scenario, you can specify column visibility for all columns based on the expression which contains selected parameter values. So that if we select a value from the drop-down list of the parameter, the column will display based on the column visibility
expression. For more information, please refer to this article:
Conditionally Setting Column Visibility in SSRS.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

2.In Table You need to check the country code Japan is available you need follow this below sample code.
for(int i=0;i<tablesize;i++)
tablesithValue=wdContext.nodeTable().getTablenode(i);

if(tablesithValue.getcountrycode.equalsIgnoreCase("Japan"))
wdContext.currentxxxxElement.setCountry_Column_Visible(WDVisibility.NONE);

Dynamically display/hide columns according to user inputs
Hi,
I need to display or hide columns in reports based on user input. ie. I have several prompts, if user doesn't input values, then the associated columns will not be displayed in the report. Is there a way to achieve this in BO XI R2. Greatly appreciated for your help.Hi Andy,
You can't hide them totally, but you can get close using alerters.
Build an alerter (probably a formula one) that put the value ="" in the field.
Now the formula should test the userresponse for that column,
based on the contents of it (filled in --> false, otherwise --> true).
Apply the alerter to all cells of the column. It will empty completely when the prompt was not filled.
Just set the width of the column to automatic (best use the header cell only) and the minimum width on zero. It will shrink the width when empty, making it seem as if hidden.
Good luck,

Displaying columns based on User Input
Hi,
I have a following requirement :
I have four columns in a report : Performance Indicator ,Target (XTD) , Actual (XTD),Indicator(Traffic Lights)
Based on the prompt, which contains column named as "Review Frequency" having values as 1. Monthly 2. Quaterly 3. Yearly.
When User select "Monthly" in pormpt I want to see MTD in Actual and Target column and Indicator depending on these columns.
When User select "Quaterly" in pormpt I want to see QTD in Actual and Target column and Indicator depending on these columns.
Can anybody tell me how can we achieve this?
I think I can achieve this with guided navigation but for that I have to create 3 reports.
Can anybody have any better idea to create just one report and based on user input I can show/hide columns in a single report?
This is mainly related to Balanced ScoreCard.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Vikasyou have seperate columns for monthly, quarterly, and yearly, right?
In the prompt, save the "Review Frequency" as a Presentation Variable "abc";
In the request, you add actual (MTD) column, edit the formula, use something like:
CASE
WHEN @{abc}='Monthly' THEN "- SalesFacts"."actual (MTD)"
WHEN @{abc}='Quarterly' THEN "- SalesFacts"."actual (QTD)"
ELSE "- SalesFacts"."actual (YTD)"
END
then do the same thing for target column. -
SSRS 2008 R2 expression to hide columns if it has NULLs
Hi, I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 and both ColA & ColB are of varchar(50) datatype. I am trying to hide these columns if they are nulls and interestingly I was able to hide ColA writing the below hidden expression
=IIF(Fields!ColA.Value = Nothing, True, False)
and for ColB the below expression seems to work
=IIF(Count(IsNothing(Fields!ColB.Value)) = Cint(0), True, False)
Just don't understand why?
Thanks in advance.....
IoneHi ione721,
According to your description, you want to know the expression for hiding columns and the how those two expressions works to hide a column based on the values of data fields. Right?
In this scenario, for the first expression, it supposed to be "=IIF(Fields!ColA.Value is Nothing,True,Flase)", when table generates a detail row which contains a null value for ColA, the expression meet the condition and return True.So the column will be
hidden. And it will stop judging with next detail row generated. In the second expression, the IsNothing() function returns a Boolean, no matter is True or Flase, they are both counted as 1. It can never be equal to 0 and always return false. So the second
expression will keep the column visible which is not correct.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
Best Regards,
Simon Hou
