Hide file extension from display in the iview

Hello my friends,
I display KM folder content in an iView in my portal. I want to hide the files extension but I just cann't find out how to do it.
Thanks in advance,
Udi Dekel.

Hi Udi,
There is no such standard feature, but at least one possible workarounds:
- You may use a display name like "MyDocument" and the ID will be "MyDocument.doc" or whatever. The standard ResourceRenderer render the display name (with the ID as a tooltip)
A "solution" for all cases where the display name has got the file extension in its name would be to write your own property renderer for the display names, which then checks if there is a file extension, and if, then cut this off.
Hope it helps

  • Desktop files disappeared from displaying on the Desktop

My existing Desktop files disappeared from displaying on the Desktop--the files still exist, and newly added files appear on the Desktop; I did not enter any "hide my files" command. How do I have them display? Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

  • How to hide file extension on finders symbolic view?

When I switch the finder's view to symbolic the files view turns to an icon or minimized first page of the file's content. In some cases the file extension is displayed at the bottom of this symbol. E.g. files of type PDF always show the 3 letters PDF at the bottom of the small preview image. Files of type PKG don't show it.
Is there a way to change this behaviour? Changing it in the finder's prefrences only affects hiding or showing the file extension in list view.
    Thanks for any advice!

I tried it and it didn't look like it took effect. I switched folders and cam back to the first one I looked at and the extensions were showing.
It may just need time to redraw the view.

    Hello Sachin,
You can use the following metalink note:How to Read Data from an EXCEL Spreadsheet into a Form Using Webutil Client_OLE2 (Doc ID 813535.1) and modify it a little bit.
Instead of copy values into forms you can save them in your temporary table.

  • Can i change the file extension from .html to .cfm in Muse?

Can I change the file extension from .html to .cfm in Muse?  Then I could use my old file names.

Muse only supports .html as a page extension at this time.

  • How to Hide File Extensions in URL

    Hello Again!
I've tried to edit my .htaccess file to hide file extensions in my URL, but nothing I try works. I get "Page Not Found" when I try to remove the .html from my pages. Here is the code I have used:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html !-f
    RewriteRule ^{.*}$ $1.html
    I've also used
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^{.*}$ $1.html [L,QSA]
    Neither worked.
Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks!
    K

When you save the document there is a check box in the save window that gives you the option to hide the extension. I've checked this for both Pages & Word. I can't be certain that all applications give this option.
You can of course delete the extension name from individual files already on your computer by selecting the file name as if editing the name and just deleting the extension part of the name.

  • Is there a quicker way to hide file extensions on multiple files.

So, there's the real filename (visible in Terminal) and then the displayed name in Finder and some other applications such as Front Row. Well, I'm using Front Row and I would like my AVI files to display just the name of the movie - not the full filename.
OS X allows me to change each file individually to hide the extension (either by renaming it in Finder or by checking 'hide extension' in the file's info box) and also allow the whole curtain to be pulled back via a setting in Finder's preferences. But there doesn't seem to be a way to hide the extensions of a particular bunch of files en masse.
What I would like to know is: Is there a quicker way to do this for all my AVI files? There doesn't seem to be an Automator task that will change file properties (other than permissions). Is there a way I could do it at the command line perhaps? I'm fairly handy with Unix shell scripts and Perl - I'm just relatively new to OS X, that's all.

The basic mechanism is to select all the files you wish to change then hold down the OPTION key and select Show Inspector from the Finder's File menu. Check the box to hide extension. This will set the preference for all selected files.
If your files are scattered all over the place, then use the Finder's Find function to find all files with the extension attribute you want, then save the result as a Smart Folder. Then select all files in the Smart Folder you created and do the above.

  • What is the file extension for photoshop for the blanks following  the period in "photoshop,___"?    I have  an older desktop which includes older photoshop files which I have asked a technician to extract for me.  He asks for the extension.  I can't

I ned the extension for the photoshop program, that is, the letters following the period as shown by the blanks in this:  "photoshop.____"   I cannot find the extension in my laptop.  The photoshop program is a couple of years old and my files are in a desktop out of use for a couple years.  I brought the desktop to a technician, asking him to extract the photos.  He asks me for the file extension.

If you using Windows you can use the control panel Folder options or from Windows File explorer menu tools>Folder options view tab to change what Microsoft hide on you.  Have windows display extension. Apple hide information from users also.

  • Hide file extension by type (user-wide)

Is there a way to have Finder hide all file extensions of a particular type? (For example, if I wanted Finder to hide the *.svg suffix from all SVG files?)
I'm only interested in having this apply to one user, not necessarily system-wide, if that matters.
Lastly, if there is no built-in mechanism for this, could it be accomplished using some combo of AppleScript, Automator, and/or Folder Actions?
    Thanks.

You can change individual file attributes, such as showing the file extension with "A Better Finder Attribute" from http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/index.html
I have used this program to mask all the file extensions for over 20,000 files that I transferred to my iMac from my old PC.

  • How to fix Safari 5.1 Preferences and Extensions from displaying "localized string not found"

I'm on a MacPro Dual Core, just recently upgraded to Lion but Since then Safari has been misbehaving.
First of all when I go into Safari Preferences in the Privacy section all that it shows is "Localized string not found" this shows up in all the button options of that section.
I also noticed the same problem, this time on the Preferences/Extensions secion when I installed the 1Password extension from Agile, which it's not working properly either, it actually displays the same "Localized string not found" copy in all of the items.
I'm following up on this issue with Agile but what makes me think that it's a Safari problem is the fact that this is also happening on the Privacy area of the Preferences even though I unistalled the 1Password extension.
Has anyone had similar issues, both with Lion's Safari 5.1 Preferences/Privacy or Extensions displaying "Localized string not found" or with 1Password not working properly?
    Thanks in advance.

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
For Lion: To see your Home library, hold down the Option key while selecting Go in the menu bar.
If deleting the .plist file didn't help, go to ~/Library/Safari/Extensions.
Move the Extensions.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac. Try Safari.
Also, you may need to check the 1Password site for updates for Lion / Safari 5.1 compatbility. Apple is not responsible for updating third party software.

  • Changed file extension FCP cant find the files

I am working on an old project created with FCP2. The captured source clips do not have a file extension and it was giving me trouble sending clips over to Motion. I changed (manually) the file extension of one file to see what happens. Predictably FCP could not locate the file and I had to relink. The problem is that every time I opened FCP it gave me the same error. So I manually REMOVED the extension. FCP still gives me the same error message! and I have to manually find the file each time I open the project. In the finder the files without an extension show up as a black icon, but the file I messed around with the extension now shows up as a QT icon (even though i deleted the extension). Any advice on how I can get FCP to recognize the file once and for all, and maybe how to better change extensions? gracias!

From the Finder, right click one of the files and choose Get Info.
In that window you will see a section "Name and extension".
There is a checkbox to hide/show the extension.
You can also apply the hide/show option for everything at once in Finder > Preferences > Advanced.
Back to that Get Info window: What application is listed under the "Open With" section?

  • Does anyone Know why and AICC published file don´t display in the LMS?

I have published a file as an AICC file and got the URL added into an LMS, (Sumtotal), when I try to launch the content the LMS window keeps saying Loading, however; when I click the URL link from my browser the content displays with no problem.
I have been reviewing what might be the problem because I used to create content with Captivate 4 and I had no problem.
Can anyone answer some questions I have:
With the change to Captivate 5, a newer version of Flash is required?
Is the file trying to call the Adobe website or may call items not on the domain we have permissions to (internally) access? if so can you provide what the domains are?
I appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks

We have encountered this issue as well, not just with Captivate 4 but with Adobe Presenter 7.0.7 as well.
With Captivate 4, we have found that content published as AS3 and AICC will hang on the 'Initializing LMS...' page when launched from our SumTotal LMS (TotalLMS v8.2) if that content is located on a remote content server.  It will, however, launch properly and track correctly when the content is installed on a content server that is on the same domain as (and thus local to) the LMS itself.
With Presenter 7.0.7 (which only publishes to AS3--there is no option for AS2), we have found that content published as AICC will take an excessive amount of time to load when launched from our SumTotal LMS and will not track correctly if that content is located on a remote content server.  It will, however, launch properly and track correctly when the content is installed on a content server that is on the same domain as the LMS itself.
So, a common theme here is AS3.  We did try publishing a C4 test sample to different Flash Player versions as AS2, and it appears there is no issue there.  It's when we publish to AS3 as AICC and install on a remote content server that issues start cropping up.
My gut is telling me that this is a crossdomain policy issue.  Would love for Adobe to investigate and offer a solution soon.
