Hide Frame edges

Done my research, the default command for Tiger and Leopard to hide window is the same as the InDesign command (CMD h) for hide/show frame edges. Has anyone figured out how to disable the OS default? I cannot find it in the System Preference > Keyboard and Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts.

>I do find it a little unnerving that common responses to InDesign's bad choices in programming to be "Why do you need to do that, why not".
As opposed to what response I wonder. Those that don't know "the answer" had better shut it? I say better to give alternative advice. You won't believe the [nice people] that come here looking for God knows what, and get pissed when offered alternatives, as if filtering out those "nebulous" responses is so tough. One wonders how they handle spam.
And just to be clear: command-h hides your app, and command control h hides your frame edges, right? No overlap. Command n no longer makes a new folder. Command u no longer ungroups. Command m no longer makes an alias. The list goes on. Things fall apart. The center cannot hold.

  • The new "Show and hide frame edges" is buggy and needless.

i have a card layout design and its irritating to see the blue outline on every block.Morever it doesnt even hide if i give any stroke.why do i need to preview everytime to see the real design.

Buggy and needless? You are sure, you use them correctly?
If you hide frame edges, they are hidden until you hover over an object. In this case, frame borders of this single object are temporarily displayed. This is working perfectly here.
What is not working on your machine? And why this is "useless"?

  • [AS] IDCS4  Show, hide frame edges

    Hi
Could some one please tell me using applescript how I can show or hide frame edeges in IDCS4 please, normally found
    under view-Hide Frame Edges.
    cheers
    Kev

This will toggle them for the frontmost document:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
    tell document 1
set show frame edges of view preferences to not (get show frame edges of view preferences)
    end tell
    end tell

  • Hide Frame Edges CS3 Tiger G5 processor

Everything I have read seems to indicate that COMMAND+H does not hide frame edges, it hides the entire INDD CS3 app. BUT this is only happening while running Leopard 10.5 on an intel processor machine.
It is happening to me running Tiger 10.4, G5 processor.
What is troubling is that the view menu still shows COMMAND+H is the hide frame edges command. It does not show CONTROL+COMMAND+H as this forum indicated.
NOW the keyboard shortcuts under the edit meny shows CONTROL+COMMAND+H is the hide indesign key command.
So what I have going on is indesign hides when I do a COMMAND+H AND it hides when I do a CONTROL+COMMAND+H!
SO HOW DO I HIDE FRAME EDGES USING A KEYBOARD COMMAND?

Well I did go through the menus and that's what spurred my question.
The VIEW menu states that the keyboard shortcut "COMMAND+H" toggles hide/show frame edges but is does not. It hides the entire application.
"W+SELECTION Tool" works ok if "show frame edges" is already toggled on.
I need to see where the frame edges are for non stroked TEXT boxes in a customer supplied file.
I'd like to be able to toggle show/frame edges on/off without mousing and have the guides toggled off. Perhaps the "W" thing will work and I'll try it but the "COMMAND+H" shortcut is still wrong. CS2 works fine, what the view menu shows in CS3 is wrong. Same machine has both applications loaded so it is not an OS/processor issue. Appears to be an oversite in the CS3 application.
    NEWS FLASH
I just found that if I do an OPTION+COMMAND+H, the finder and all other applications will hide, I can then immediately do a COMMAND+H to show/hide Frame edges. If I go to the finder or other application then back to indesign the "hide indesign" behavior takes place.
So it looks like I must first hide all other active applications (OPTION+COMMAND+H), then toggle the frames using the COMMAND+H.

  • Make Hide Frame Edges the DEFAULT?

I almost never want to see the frame edges of any object I'm not currently manipulating. Seeing all those edges is super annoying and distracting. Sure, you can make a shortcut, but having a doc open with it hidden as default would obviously be preferred.

So what has changed your mind? With the new auto-align features, it seems even less useful to show edges.
I've never understood how people could work without 'em. How do you know where things are?
(One reason why I like frame edges: some of my clients are apt to draw huge frames for tiny images, or to re-use the same frame over and over for all content, so I get a great deal of spurious suggested auto-alignments whenever I move an object across the page.)

  • "HIde Frame Edges" Keyboard Command

According to the menu, the keyboard command is ^commandH. However, this makes InDesign disappear. Am i reading that first character right (it's over the 6 key?) If so, then you'd have to shift to get it. Anyway, i don't understand. Why didn't they just retain the old commandH? Thanks very much.

    > Except in photoshop it's control command H (to hide pshop) & command H to hide edges, so why don't they match?
I would guess that the Photoshop code, which dates back to Cmd-H for Hide Edges is so firmly entrenched in thousands of lines of legacy code that it would have been an onerous project to make Photoshop follow the Apple edict.
And so the Photoshop team decided to ignore Apple. (This wouldn't be the first time.)
I would guess that the InDesign team has less legacy code to waddle through to change Cmd-H.
But it's an interesting point because it could explain why InDesign's Hide Application command has caused so many problems under Leopard. (Just guessing.)

  • Turn off frame edges in layers on hover?

    Hello
Just upgraded to Indesign CS5, when you hover over a box the frame edges highlight in blue ( or what ever colour the object layer is on) is there a way to turn this distraction off?
I already have view > extras > hide frame edges on
    Thanks
    Matthew

    Nope.
You're not the first to find it annoying, either

  • Show frame edges

I have "show frame edges" checked and yet my document does not show them. i have content boxes (within a picture frame) as well as text boxes, why don't the outlines show up? it looks like it would in preview mode - no boxes showing - why??? thanks

In ID CS2 (qualifying that in case this was changed in CS3):
    The frame toggle is:
    CMD+h
If your View menu has an entry for
    b "Show Frame Edges"
, then this indicates that your Frame Edges are currently hidden (or should be), and that using the command will "Show" the frames.
If your View menu has an entry for
    b "Hide Frame Edges"
, then this indicates that your Frame Edges are currently visible (or should be), and that using the command will "Hide" the frames.
    Other View toggles:
    CMD+; = show/hide (ruler) guides
    CMD+r = show/hide Rulers
    w = toggle preview mode
CMD+OPT+y = show/hide text threading (linked text boxes)
BTW: This post seems to be in direct conflict with another request you made about not wanting to see the frames...
Is the layer color set to white? That would make identifying the frame edges VERY hard against a white background.

  • Auto show frame edges live view & scaling

I have just started using InDesign CS5 and I have found how to switch off live view for better performance, but CS5 also has the this thing where if you run the mouse pointer over objects, by default it highlights the frame edges of the object the pointer is on. It also has the icon that shows if it's an image or not. I prefer to work with a clean interface and switch stuff like that on if necessary. Can somebidy help be find where to disable that feature please.
One other thing is when I used to command/option/scale an object, in CS4 it would alway scale proportionately from whichever corner I grabbed. Now by default it scales from the centre of the object. How can I get it back to scaling from the corner I grab please.
    Thanks!

    Frame Edge Highlighting:
This is a oft hated feature that you can't turn off.  Have a look at this Indesign Secrets post here, and here's a summary of some from this forum.
    Content Grabber:
Thankfully Adobe made this new function able to be turned off, go View > Extras > Hide Content Grabber.
    Scaling:
This thread here should answer your question.

  • Is it possible to show frame edges in design mode?

Is it possible to show frame edges in design mode?

That's what I thought. It would be useful to toggle show/hide the edges of my frames to check alignment, to make sure that frames aren't overly large and overlapping other frames unnecessarily, etc.
I would like to have this functionality, Adobe, if you're listening!
    Thanks for the confirmation Hendrik.

  • I was working on my 96page catalog with over 2000 photos and out of the blue my frame edges vanished even on the paste board and they are not hidden and are on

I was working on my 96page catalog with over 2000 photos and out of the blue my frame edges vanished even on the paste board and they are not hidden and are on

You won't see the frame edges if you are in Preview mode, so you should use Normal mode if you want to see them. You can turn off the Document Grid in the View menu (View>Guides & Grids>Hide Document Grid).

  • Show SC details, Hide frame,

    Hi
I'd like to hide the whole frame, for example of cost asignment. I have used the BADI and screen variant and I hide all the fields and even the title of the frame but the frame go on apperaing.
Does anybody know if it is possible to do it, without updating the template.
    Thanks
    Best regards

As far as i have researched, there is no Transaction as well screen variant available.
I looked in the system ,today. Unfortunately, there is no Screen Variant available in SRM for this case.

  • Cursor Mouse Over on Frame (Container) Reveals Frame Edges

I just installed InDesign CS5 and everything is fine, but there is a set preference that I want to remove that causes the edges of the Frame(s) (or Containers) to light up as I move my mouse cursor over them.
I personally find this really annoying and can't seem to find a way to turn that default setting off.
    Any advice?

    Any advice?
    Learn to live with it.
Seriously, you can't turn it off, though it apparently doesn't show in Presentation mode. I think eventuyally you get used to it, and even come to like it. I find it pretty handy now and then.

  • Colored strokes appearing on frame edges?

hi everyone, hope you can help!
I am fairly new to FCpro, and have encountered this issue, when exporting to compressor just in the timeline... I can see a stroke on the edge of the frame. Its usually black, but sometimes colored. Check out this example: http://www.mooking.com/moodolph.html you can clearly see a green stroke on the right edge of the frame! what is this? how can I get rid of it and avoid it?
thanks! I am sure its not uncommon, but new to a rookie like me
    looking forward to your reply,
    moo.

sorry, if you click to play the quicktime clip, you’ll notice the green (approx. 1pxl stroke on the right side of the movie frame!) line.
the black stokes I have noticed on my previous movies, were on the top and bottom edges of the frame.
same sort of issue I suppose.
does that make sense? did you notice the stroke?
    thanks!

  • Photoshop CC and CC 2014 Leaves Hairlines Around Frame Edges

If you erase a background from a product shot, then put that product shot on another canvas you can see the square outline of the original photograph. New versions of Photoshop are leaving a one pixel or maybe half a pixel border around the outside edges of the frame. This is wrong. If you press CTL + A to select everything you should get all the pixels, not leave a hairline border. Has anyone else seen this? You must go back and erase this hairline on all 4 sides to have a true cut out image with no artifacts. Thank you.

I think you need to show some screen captures showing the differences between CS6 and CC and CC 2014.  Problems like you describe are common problems when users don't know how to make composite images well.   If you can do it well in CS6 I would think you can also do it well in CC and CC 2014 if you can not then there is a problem.  Please show the differences between version of Photoshop.
