Hide next button ?

Hello everybody,
I'm having some trouble to get my captivate project to work as we want.
let me explain : I have many Quizzes dispatched in many question pools, and I want to hide the 'next' or 'ignore' button while quizz is not complete, but the problem is that you can't decide to do anything differently between the quizz and the quizz review.
I tried to hide next button UNDER the send button so it appears when you reviw but unfortunately captivate developpers decided to put the nex button OVER the send button and give us no way to change that.
Does anyone have a clue to help me do what I want ? I don't understand how nobody ever came through this problem before.
I explain again : i want users not being able to skip questions, and i want them to be able to review quizz normally, but if you don't put the next button in the quizz it wont appear during review so users won't be able to rewiew it.
Mant the more I use this software the more I hate it, please save me and give me a clue to do what I want, it seems so logic ...

The buttons on the Question slides have a stacking order, indeed. My tip is to hide the Skip button by dragging it under the Clear button, which is higher in the stack. Offering the user the ability to clear their answer in case they made a mistake is something rather different than letting them skip quesitons. And mostly I will rename the Skip button to Next, because it will be only visible during Review where it has the function of a Next button.
More details about the functionalities of Question slides and tweaking possibilities in two blog posts:

I never understand why people 'hate' software, I really like Captivate because of its versatility.

BTW Welcome to the forum, but please quit hating

    I created a new button at the bottom of the region in a Hide and Show Region called [Next >]. The button is displayed to the right of the region.I only see it displayed to the right of the region in Firefox (Safari and IE8 showed it above the sub-regions). Not obvious to me why this is the case (it's usually IE that does it's own thing).
    I want it displayed at the right end of the bottom of the region.Button position Bottom of Region causes an anonymous HTML table containing the button(s) to be generated after the <tt>#BODY#</tt> placeholder in the region template. Your Hide/Show region template didn't have a <tt>#SUB_REGIONS#</tt> placeholder so by default the sub-regions were rendered after the <tt>#BODY#</tt> and the "Bottom of Region" button container (don't know if this is the intended behaviour or a bug). Adding <tt>#SUB_REGIONS#</tt> before <tt>#BODY#</tt> in the template gets things in the right order (button after sub-regions):
    <div class="hide-show-region" id="#REGION_STATIC_ID#" #REGION_ATTRIBUTES#>
      <div class="hide-show-top">
        <div class="hide-show-title">
    <div class="rounded-corner-region">
    <div class="rc-blue-top">
    <div class="rc-blue-top-r">
              #TITLE#</div>
    </div>
    </div>

      id="shIMG#REGION_SEQUENCE_ID#" alt="" />Click on arrow to enter/hide  information for signs and/or nameplates</a></div>
        <div class="hide-show-buttons">#CLOSE##PREVIOUS##NEXT##DELETE##EDIT##CHANGE##CREATE##CREATE2##EXPAND##COPY##HELP#</div>
      </div>
      <div class="hide" id="region#REGION_SEQUENCE_ID#">
        #SUB_REGIONS#
        #BODY#
      </div>
    </div>Firefox is still showing the button to the right of the sub-regions. I'm assuming that this has something to do with everything in this theme being floated left (for reasons that escape me), so we'll try to clear the button container using CSS. The table doesn't have an ID or class so try an adjacent sibling selector using the ID of the preceding sub-region:
    #nameplates-name+table {
      clear: both;
    }Finally, the button alignment was set to "Left", so I changed it to "Right".
    Seems to be working in IE8 (all I have access to at present).

  • Hide the Button Next / Previous in Main Steps on GAF.

    Hello Friends,
    I have to develop one application using GAF.
    In this applicaion there is no INITIAL Screen.

    How to Hide the Button Next / Previous and change the name of Button?

    Hello Julia,
    You are absolutely correct.
    But the thing is, first screen of my application only have the button 'Start' and also roadmap is displayed.
    But in standard GAF application,
    if i configured my window as Inital Screen then button Start will come, but raod map will not come.
    if i configured my window as Main Step then Road Map will come with Button 'Previous; and 'Next'. but Button Start will not come.
    either I can add the Button 'Start' in Main Step or change the name of Button 'Next' to 'Start'.
    But button 'Previous' nothing make sense, so i have to hide this button.
    my 'Start' button will act as Button 'Next'.
    but how can i hide the button 'Previous' and change the name of button 'Next'.
    could you please suggest me shall i develop this application using GAF or simply use the Roadmap UI element in my web dynpro abap application?

  • How can I hide a button with javascript in Captivate 8?

    I need to run some javascript in my project and at the same time I want to hide a button, so I can't use advanced actions.

    It is very strange, most users who have focus on JS try to do everything with it, whereas lot of simple actions can easily be done with advanced/shared actions. I will only go to JS when it is not possible with advanced/shared actions.
    You are lucky, I was just restarting to work on an advanced training for next week when your question showed up.

  • Prev/Next Buttons

    I am using some paging code to add a previous and next
    buttons to my spry gallery. I am attempting (unsuccessfully) to
    hide the previous button at the beginning of the recordset and the
    next button at the end. I have pasted the code below if anyone has
    any ideas.
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var pageOffset =0;
    var pageSize = 5;
    var pageStop = pageOffset + pageSize;
    var dsGallery = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("images.xml",
    "/gallery/photos/photo", { filterFunc: MyPagingFunc });
    function MyPagingFunc(ds, row, rowNumber)
    if (rowNumber < pageOffset || rowNumber >= pageStop)
    return null;
    return row;
    function UpdatePage(offset)
    var numRows = dsGallery.getUnfilteredData().length;
    if (offset > (numRows - pageSize))
    offset = numRows - pageSize;
    if (offset < 0)
    offset = 0;
    pageOffset = offset;
    pageStop = offset + pageSize;
    // Re-apply our non-destructive filter on dsStates1:
    dsGallery.filter(MyPagingFunc);
    // Tell our 2nd region to update because we've adjusted
    // some of the variables it uses in its spry:if expressions.
    Spry.Data.updateRegion("list2");
    // Change the XPath for the 3rd data set so that the 3rd
    // region updates. Remember, position() starts at one and
    not
    // zero, so we have to add one to our pageOffset and
    pageStop.
    dsGallery.setXPath("/states/state[position() >=" +
    (pageOffset+0) + " and position() < " + (pageStop+1) + "]");
    -->
    </script>
    <input type="button" value="Prev"
    onClick="UpdatePage(pageOffset - pageSize);" />
    <input type="button" value="Next"
    onClick="UpdatePage(pageOffset + pageSize);" />

    why didn't you use Spry Paged View instead of writing your
    own code?
    then you can use
    if ({ds_PageNumber} == 1 ) {
    //disable prev button & enable next
    else if ({ds_PageNumber} == {ds_PageCount} ) {
    //disable next button & enable prev
    else{
    //enable both prev & next button
    you then just have to call this function, every time you do
    navigation or page load (using observer or anything else)

  • Making the "next" button inactive until video ends

    I am new to Captive and have downloaded the trial version to test out to set up an e-learning module.  I have managed to create my first quiz and was able to get it to work fine.  I used one of the pre made templates and I inserted a flv video.  The user needs to watch the video prior to taking an exam, but the way it is set up the next button is visable and active the entire time of the video.  I discovered where you could modify the time before a button appears, but the user can get around that by hitting the pause button and waiting for the elapsed time to expire.
         How do I set up the program so that the user has to watch the video in its entirety and only after the video is complete, they can proceed with the quiz.  Thanks.

    OK, after searching and googling, I think I may have found the answer.  I found a hiding and showing action function, I  will see if I can hide the next button until the video ends, at which point it will appear.  I'll give it a shot and see if it works.

  • Forced Navigation - Want the next button to display after user clicks on all buttons.

    Hi. I'm new to using Captivate to make a learning module. I'm stuck on this forced navigation issue. I created 8 click boxes that the users have to click on. I created 9 advanced actions. Each AA for the click boxes hides text boxes that don't pertain to it, shows a text box, plays audio, and assigns a number 1 to a variable I created. There are 8 variables. I then created an conditional AA that displays the next button once all 8 variables have the number 1 assigned to it.
    For some reason, the next button doesn't display even though I'm sure each variable has the number 1 assigned to it. Also, I want the entire audio to play for the click box before the person can click on the next click box. Right now, I can click on a click box and then another click box right afterwards and the audio stops and the next audio starts. Can you all please help?
    I am using Captivate 6.0.0.199.  My computer is running Windows 7.  I want the output to be SWF.  Thank you in advance for your help!

    First of all, install the patch, you are still on the unpatched version that had a lot of bugs. Almost one year ago a fix was released, your version should be 6.0.1.240. Use Help, Updates.
    The difficult part will be the audio, the other part should be very easy, have explained that a lot of times. You could disable all click boxes, but then you need a new event to trigger the 'enable' action. Is it that important? Are those users not wise enough to listen to the audio, or is that audio not interesting enough? Why not instruct them about listening?
    I suppose you use the Play Audio statement, and indeed, when you trigger another audio clip the previous one will be stopping. You could attach the audio to an 'invisible' object, and make that visible which will play the audio. But that will cause another issue if the user clicks too quickly on a second click box: both audio will play at the same time.

  • Hiding the "Next" Button AS3

    Hi Apologies if this has been discussed before.
    I have a small microsite built using Flash 4. It contains 5 'pages' assigned to individual keyframes, each keyframe separated by 5 frames (F5s). Each Keyframe is labelled 'page1' through to 'page5'. I have a navigation bar for the entire site which includes NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons. When the user reaches the LAST PAGE/KEYFRAME I do not want the NEXT BUTTON to show. I suspect it is something simple like nextbutton.visible = true - but I've spent a day trying to work out how to do this but without success.
    I am using AS3 and the existing coding is shown below. Any help much much appreciated.
    Thanks George
    nextbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextPage);
    previousbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, prevPage);
    function nextPage(event:MouseEvent):void {
        var thisLabel:String = MovieClip(root).currentLabel;
        var thisLabelNum:String = thisLabel.replace("page", "");
        var curNumber:Number = Number(thisLabelNum);
        if (curNumber < 5) {
            var nextNum:Number = curNumber + 1;
            MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop("page" + nextNum);
    function prevPage(event:MouseEvent):void {
        var thisLabel:String = MovieClip(root).currentLabel;
        var thisLabelNum:String = thisLabel.replace("page", "");
        var curNumber:Number = Number(thisLabelNum);
        var prevNum:Number = curNumber - 1;
        MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop("page" + prevNum);

    Hi Ned
    I re-read your suggestion AFTER I had posted my reply and I'm delighted to say it now works.
    Unfortunately, I have another related problem that you may be able to help with.
    On the Home Page (i.e. KEYFRAME 1) there are a series of button links that take me to the other keyframe/pages. I also need the NEXT BUTTON icon to hide when that keyframe is accessed from KEYFRAME 1 - here is the code:
    stop();
    leftbutton1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftbutton1pressed);
    function leftbutton1pressed(event:MouseEvent){
        gotoAndStop("page2");
    leftbutton2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftbutton2pressed);
    function leftbutton2pressed(event:MouseEvent){
        gotoAndStop("page3");
    leftbutton3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftbutton3pressed);
    function leftbutton3pressed(event:MouseEvent){
        gotoAndStop("page4");
    leftbutton4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftbutton4pressed);
    function leftbutton4pressed(event:MouseEvent){
        gotoAndStop("page5");
    So if I use the NEXT/PREVIOUS BUTTON from any other page it works perfectly but not if I click the button on KEYFRAME 1. If I add nextbutton.visible = false;  at the end of the above code I get Error 1120: Access of undefined property next button.
    Any help gladly recieved.
    Thanks
    George

  • How do I make my next button (click box) dependent on other actions?

    I have 5 click boxes on one slide, where each reveal certain text.  I want all to be clicked before my manually created next button (an image + click box going to next slide) appears.
    I want to create a condition saying click boxes 1 - 5 must all be clicked before the next button appears.  How can I do this?  Thanks.

    You're going to run into some issues trying to do this with click boxes because by default as soon as you click one of them it releases the timeline pause and the project will continue to play.  There is a work around for this that involves some fancy Advanced Actions to rewind the playhead slightly so that you jump back before the pause point again, but I actually prefer to do this sort of thing another way.
    I use Event Handler widgets to register the clicks on some other object such as a caption or highlight box or image.  I can set the widget preferences to Disable Continue and Reset Success Fail Criteria After Action.  This allows my users to click away on the objects forever if they want without releasing the playhead. Best of all it only takes seconds to set this up. Doing something similar with Advanced Actions requires you to build extra clauses into other actions you need, and then sometimes you run into issues with the clickboxes not resetting their success/fail criteria unless you re-enter the slide.
    Whichever way you go, you're going to need to first Hide the navigation button on the slide (set its Visibility to unchecked) and set up some user variables (one for each object where you want the user click to be tracked) with initial values set to 0.
    You also need five Conditional Advanced Actions (one for each object) that have two sections.  The first part assigns the relevant user variable to 1 when its object gets clicked, and then it moves to the second part which looks for a condition where all of these tracking variables are set to 1, and if it find this, then it Unhides the button that allows the user to jump to the next slide.
    Set each interactive object (widget or click box) to execute their relevant conditional advanced action when clicked.
    That should do it for you.

  • FPM Next Button

    Hello
    i have created 4 Miansteps using FPM GAF.
    I want hide or disable  NEXT button of only Mainstep4.
    How can i customize only Mianstep4 NEXT button.
    i have tried with customizing with invisible or disable NEXT button BUT it is happening for all Mainsteps.

    Hello Williams,
    If MainStep4 is the last step in your GAF model, then the NEXT_STEP button will be disabled automatically. For other steps you can't dynamically influence property of the NEXT_STEP button (like enable, label etc).
    Alternative would be to disable the NEXT_STEP button at design time and add a custome button with Text as 'Next' with design property as 'Next'. this will have same look and feel of the generic next button. then for the custom button you can disable or enable the buttons programatically.

  • Hiding Next Button

    I know that people have posted answers to this question already, but I'm being really dim and don't understand them. I have a slide with 5 rollover areas on it and I want users to have to roll over these before they move onto the next slide so I want to hide the next button until they've looked at everything.   I've had a good look at other threads and other sites on the net that explain this but I've never used Advanced Actions before and have only been using Captivate for about 6 weeks (It's Captivate 5).  I've tried to follow the instructions but I can't make it work and to be honest I don't understand what I'm trying to do.
    Is anyone able to explain it really, really simply.  (Don't assume I know anything, because I probably don't!)

    OK, then will try to give you some help.
    Create the five text captions, label them something like TC_1, TC_2, TC_3, TC_4, TC_5 and uncheck the visibility in the Properties panel for those captions
    Create the five 'items' they have to click on: either you create them as buttons (image buttons), or as click boxes over an image, that is up to you. But be sure to label the interactive object (either the click box or the button) in a similar way as the text captions. Example for click boxes: CB_1, CB_2, CB_3, CB_4, CB_5. This will make them easy to recognize which one is linked to which caption in the advanced actions
    Create the Next button and uncheck its visibility in the Properties panel; I would label it Bt_Next
    Create a user variable v_counter; you could give it an initial value of 0, but it is not really necessary because that is the default value
    Now the advanced actions, which is the most difficult part because you'll need a conditional action proceeded by a standard action which is a bit confusing to achieve. If you want more detailed explanation, have a look at my article
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/862/cpsid_86254.html
    You need an advanced action for each click box, but you can duplicate and edit the first advanced action I'm now describing. I will label it CB_1_ac to make it clear that it will be triggered by CB_1; this action will have 2 decisions: the first, will label it ShowTC is a mimicked standard action, that will show the text caption (or the image, forgot to ask what you will show), disables the present click box and increments the counter; the second, labeled CounterCheck is a real condition that checks the value of the counter and if it reaches 5 will show the Next button; you only use the first page for each decision, not the ELSE part:
    This action has to be duplicated 4 times to have the actions CB_2_ac....CB_5_ac. You have to edit only the Actions part of the decision ShowTC to change TC_1 and CB_1 to TC_2.... CB_2 etc
    Then attach those actions to their click box, as Success action in the Properties panel. Try it out... I created this sample and it works fine.

  • Disable next button until user click an object button (captivate 6)

    I would like to disable the next button on a slide until the user clicks on a certain object.
    I also would like to show a warning pop up message that appears and disappear when the user clicks next button before clicking the required object.
    Thanks!
    Jay

    But you want the Next button to be visible?
    What is that ' certain object'? Can you turn it into an interactive object, which is possible with smart shapes? Create a user variable v_click with a default value of 0. To the 'object' that has become interactive, add the standard action 'Assign v_click with 1'. The value of that variable will be checked in the conditional action that is attached to the Next Button.
    For the Next button create this conditional action:
    IF v_click is equal to 0
        Show popup message
    ELSE
        Hide popup message
        Go to Next Slide

  • Disable Next Button Until Slide is Completely Viewed

    I need the slides to automatically advance, be able to go back, but not go to next unless it has already been viewed for the entire slide. So my thinking was only show a playbar if the user goes back, but then if I just have the back button it can't advance. If I put the next button at the end of the timeline it messes with my animations are no longer in sync.
    1. I wish there were an ability to disable the next button in the play bar until the slide is over.
    2. I tried making a variable v_view set it to 0
    Created an action called PlayBarVisible as a conditional action
    where if v_view is equal to 1
    then assign cpCmndShowPlayBar with 1
    else assign cpCmndShowPlayBar with 0
    Set the slide On Enter to Execute Advanced Action to PlayBarVisible
    On Exit to v_view to 1
    So this works with one slide, the next one automatically has a play bar.
    So, how can I get the slide to only allow next if the slide has been viewed, but if it has been viewed then the next is always available? Again, it has to not mess with my animations.

    I have a widget on my website that will pause every slide 5 frames before the end-of-slide. I could easily add some code to hide the playbar and keep progress to show the playbar if the slide has been completed.
    You could contact me through our website www.tlcmediadesign.com and we could work something out.

  • How do I make a learner attempt a question, without having the option of a 'Next' button?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to display the feedback option (learner selected) from a multiple choice Question by clicking the next (or previous) page button?
    I have set the progress to the next page, with the option 'Attempts - 1' from the Assessment page. The objective of this exercise was to make the learner attempt the given multiple choice question, without the option of going back or forward during their first attempt. The first time the learner comes across this page, he/she has to answer the question to move forward. Once he/she has answered the question (right or wrong), then he/she will be able to navigate to the next and previous pages.
    Is there any functionality where we can restrict the learner in taking up the test (compulsory), before navigating to the next page (using 'Next' button)?
    Thank you,
    Emayavaramban M E

    Don't show the Next button, but drag it under the Clear button if you have that one. Next button is really meant to skip an answer (which you do not want to allow) and during Review to make navigation possible. Since the Clear button will not be there during Review, then the Next button will become visible. Next is the new label (formerly it was labeled Skip). I explained some functionality of question slides in this post:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
    It was written in the CP5.5 time, so you'll still see the label 'Skip' that is now replaced by 'Next'
