Hide Repeating Frames based on data value

Hello,
Wonderful forum. Hope someone out there can give us input on this one. We have a report where we would like to show a different layout depending on the data value from the master query. One layout occupies a full 8X11 page and the second layout occupies 1/3rd of a page. Is it possible to hide one reapeating frame and show the other based on data value? This would be a multiple page report and each page will have to take the correct payout depending on the value of the data in the row.

I am having a problem doing this. Let us say i have 2 differnt paper layouts. I want to show or hide one of the layouts based on a data value.
The problem i am facing is that the 2nd instance of true value for showing the 1st layout is over lapping the 1st instance of the 2nd layout thus showing 2 layouts overlapping each other on the same page. I know this is confusing but i will attempt to give an example:
page 1 shows - layout #1 only is showing based on result of data value. This is good.
page 2 shows - layout #2 shows based on data value, but also the 2nd instace of layout #1 (what ever data record satisfies layout #1 rule) is also showing over layout #2. So both the layouts are jumbled up on 1 page.
Essentially conditional formatting on layout #1 is not able to recognize that there is a 2nd layout taking its place and thus showing the layout #1 whenever it finds data which satisfies the condition on the 2nd page and so on..
Any help is greatly appreciated.

2 Repeating Frames based on the same group

I have this report which contains 3 groups, I have the requirement to break the 2nd group so that I create a 'footer' based on the 2nd group.
I have created 2 repeating frames (one which holds the account number, payment terms, currency) and the 2nd repeating frame based on the same group which contains the bank details
My report looks like this:
(1st Group)
Customer xxxxx
Address xxxxx
(2nd Group)
Account No xxxxx
Payment Terms xxxxx
Currency xxx
(3rd Group -repeating)
Trans id xxx
amount xxx
(2nd Group)
Bank Details xxxxxxxxxx <--will only have one per account
I had originally designed the report using 2 identical frame structure.
e.g.
Main
Repeating Group Customer
Repeating Group Account
Repeating Group Transactions
Footer
Repeating Group Customer
Repeating Group Account
This format worked when the Main group did not go over a page. The 2 Account Groups were coordinated.
When the Main group extended to more than one page, the 2 Account Groups did not match.
The jest of what I am trying to do is a footer of the bank details be printed at the bottom of the page always.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Say the next records in the query are for
COMPANY XXXXX, ACCOUNT 789 with one detail record.
COMPANY XXXXX, ACCOUNT 321 with multiple details records which will force a second page.
What is happening at the moment is that the 2 repeating frames based on the Account Group,
the first 2 pages will print out correctly, however, because the 2nd account goes over 2 pages and how I have this set the structure of the report (see above post), the bottom Account Group thinks that the account number is now 789 when in fact the top account group is still on 456
I really hope that this is clearer.
I am working on Reports 10g on a 10g database
I have tried to create a ref cursor & separate the query to bring back bank details. but with no luck.
A person had suggested that I create a separate frame and hold the bank details, which is fine. but as I previously stated, those bank details need to print on every page at a specific area on the physical page.

Dispaly or Hide a column based on Prompt Value

Hi All,
How can I Display or Hide a Column based on Prompt Value selected?
On my dashboard I have a Report/Request and a Dashboard Prompt.
Dashboard Prompt has three values, say: *'A', 'B' and 'C'*.
And my report/request has three columns named *'Field1', 'Field2'* and Field3'.
What I am trying to achieve is that whenever user selects prompt values as *'A' or 'B'* all the three fields on my report named *'Field1', 'Field2' and Field3'* should be displayed, however whenever user selects prompt values as *'C'* only fields named *'Field1' and 'Field2'* should be displayed.

Hi Bhavna,
I tried using View Selector, however I am not able to achieve the required functionality with that.
I created a Request with 3 columns in it, then I switched to criteria and added another table to that. The new table automatically got the similar 3 columns used in the first report. Now when I tried to delete one of those columns from the new report, it also got deleted from the first report.
All the views are dependent, changes made to one are reflected in other.
Can't figure it out, where am I going wrong?

How to Visible/Hide an Item based on the value of another Item

I need to visible and hide a textitem based on the value of another item.This form has 3 blocks, and the both item is in the first Master Block.
My code is:

Read the 'Propagation of Property Changes' section towards the end of the page for Set_Item_Property in the online help. I'm not sure what you mean by locking automatically but perhaps it's because of this.
You should also ensure the item you're setting to invisible is not the current item (check :system.cursor_item and go to a different item if necessary).

SSRS Matrix report to show or hide year column based on parameter value "Date" selected.

I have a requirement an ssrs matrix report should display columns (year/s) based on parameter value (date/s).
My Dataset fileds are: Product, Year_name, Month_name, Date
Currently my report output looks like this-

My requirement: if I'm selecting Date parameter value as '2013-xx-xx' I should only able to see Year column 'Calender2013' and rest of the years should hide. Similarly If I'm selecting Date parameter value as '2014-xx-xx' I should only able to
see Year column 'Calender2014' .

Hi Afan,
According to your description, you want to only show the selected year on your report, right?
In this case, you need to get the year from the date parameter using the expression below
=Year(Parameters!Date.Value)
And then use the expression below to get the year from Year_Name field.
=Right(Fields!Year_Name.Value,4)
Then add a filter to the dataset to filter the data like below
Expression:=Year(Parameters!Date.Value)
Operator:=
Value:=Right(Fields!Year_Name.Value,4)

Getting repeating frames according to Parameter value

Dear Users....I wanna print bar codes in a report based on a query. Now the scenario is that users want to take multiple prints of the same barcode on the same page. I think its possible only if the repeating frame gets repeated as many times as user enters a value from parameter form or the query should return number of records equal to parameter value. what do u peeps suggest about that how is it possible. Suppose report query is as simple as:
Select Bar_Cod From Abc;

Thanx magoo...Yes,u've done apparently a difficult job very simply using a Cartesion product :) But I think there are some other ways too for this. Can we use Rollup or Cube in the same case anyway?

HTML Dataset - how to filter based on data values within columns

I have had success with using the XML dataset and filtering based on user input (see javascript example below)

Although my advanced dataselector within Dreamweaver CS4 has a column selector... I can't under or get it to work.

According to your description, you want to pass the Terminal number that user logon to where clause without needing to create a userid table, right?
As per my understanding, you need to add an additional table to store the user and corresponding terminal, so that you can filter the data to show the rows based on the user and corresponding terminal. Here are some blogs which describe dynamic security

How to hide a field based on the value of a field in a different subform - null check doesn't work!

I'm using Javascript to set the actions. I need to hide a text field if the value of a field in another sub-form is null.
- tried checking the value of the other field for null - doesn't work
- tried setting a variable str2 where I know the value of the other field is available then checking that variable when I initialize the text field - doesn't work
What am I missing?

How to create file based on date value

Hope you'll help me. I can't find right way to tackle the problem. I need to read a file which name is created based on month and years' value. File name format is as follows: INMMYY.log. So to read it I must create File object using this file name format. I tried to use Calendar class get necessary information using get() method. Unfortunatelly returned month's value is always 2,3,4 and so on..(I need 02,03). There is problem with year's value als. It's returned in form YYYY but I need YY.
Does anybody have any idea how to create string INMMYY in the easiest way ??

Data Merge - Change Text/Cell Characteristics based on Data Value

I am working on a letter that is sent to our diabetic patients during their birthday month...the letter will contain the last known test results and date for several measures and then recommend action based on those results.
The data comes from a text file (csv file separated by "^") generated by our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) database...
What I need is a script or tool that will recognize specific text and then change the font size and cell background for that particular field...
In the first example below, everything is normal, so there is no notification necessary...
In the second example, the BP is too high (calculation is performed by our EMR), so the csv file includes "Due Now" and "Yes" for the final two columns in the table. The script needs to recognize "Due Now," enlarge the font, change the color, and change the background color of the cell, and then recognize "Yes" and do the same.
Is this possible? Is there a tool/script/method that I need?

Have you considered programming the database application to perform the logic tests, combine the data with the appropriate InDesign tagged text markup, and output the result as an InDesign tagged text file in .txt format? You can then place the tagged .txt file in a new blank InDesign file.
Search Google for terms like "InDesign tagged text user guide" without quotes for the tagged text guide and related links. Export an InDesign file as tagged text to get an idea of what's involved. In fact, you can use the tagged text exported from your data merge setup as the basis for what the coded database needs to do. You need to open the tagged text file in a text editor, not in InDesign.

How to repeat rows based on column value

Hi all,
I have a query that gives me a result with a column value for example 4.
I now want to repeat this row 4 times with a new column that calculated from 1 - 4.
Or when column value is 3 I want to repeat row 3 times with new column name 1-3
Can anyone help me with this please? :)

Using LEVEL Pseudo column to format repeating frame

I am trying to display a hierarchy in Reports. I use the 'Connect By' Clause in SQL and gather the hierarchical data, and want to display the results in a tree fashion. How can I do it?
I only come up with one answer, to use the LEVEL PSEUDO-Column and indent the repeating frame based on the value for LEVEL. I want to know how I can set the X and Y co-ordinates of the repeating frame dynamically?
Please help me with this if you have other ideas?

Unfortunately, you can't programmatically set the geometry (x,y, width, height) values of any objects in the reports output.
The best you can do is have another object (or number of objects) that are turned on/off and then use collapsing anchors and format triggers to move the repeating frame to the left. If you only have one object, you can set it's horizontal expansion to variable and then fill it with a number of characters to get the desired "indent".

Multiple repeating frames with same source printing same Values

Dear all,
I have a report which is having more than 10 repating frames in this 4 repating frames have same source assingned,during the report execution just before printing the repeating frames at various levels am inserting records into the source table assignd to the 4 repating frames.i actually want the repeating frames to print values i just inserted in to the table,diffrent repeating frames should print diffrent values.
i have put source query like this;
select * from <table> where print_status is null.
just before printing the repeating frames am inserting values in to this table
insert into <table> values ();
print repeating frame 1
insert
print repeating frame 2
insert
print repeating frame 3
insert
print repeating frame 4
in this particular case the report is printing only one row which i have inserted before printing the repeating frame 1.(basically the query is not refreshing at various grups)
I want to print records which is inserted at each level .using one source query and 4 diffrent repeating frames.

Currently am modifying an existing report which is designed few years before, and having hell lot of frames and repeating frames and I need to include the above said portion between these repeating frames. The major reason why i tried to adopt this method is, during the execution of the report at each different intervals I am doing some calculation and then inserting the results into a global temporary table, again the same global temporary table am trying to print it in different places .Since I have multiple rows to print from this table I am using a repeating frame.
I have resolved this issue using packages and assigning values into packaged variables. But I had a gut feeling that declaring too much variables might confuse others especially some other developer.

Show or Hide Items based on radio value

I am trying to show and hide various Items based on the values of a radio button item. I have see the code and examples like

The problem I am having is that I have 3 different values of the radio item and I want to display certain items based on each different value.

Show Item2, Item5, Item6
or
radio_value = 'Maybe'
Show Item1, Item2, Item4
I am fairly new to this so it might be easy, I just don't know how.
Any help would be appreciated.

Repeating frame data run over the page number in the bottom of page

Hi all,
I have an issue trying to have page number info shown on every page of report.
The report has an outer frame M1 that includes frame M2 (it contains a repeating frame with actual data), M3 (a frame that shows the summary and total info) and M4 (the frame that contains page number information.
Settings are as follow:
Frame - Vertical - Horizontal - Print Obj On - Base Printing On
M1     Fixed          Fixed          First Page     Enclosing
M2     Expand          Fixed          First Page     Enclosing
M3     Fixed          Fixed          Last Page     Anchoring
M4     Fixed          Fixed           All Page     Enclosing
What happens now is that frames M3 and M4 both only shown on the last page. M3 has the right behavior but I expected M4 to show on every page. All these are on Main Section. I know I could have page info on Trailer section but I need to have everything on Main section because of some other logic I have.
Any suggestions?

I tried that but it did not work. If I used Print All Pages for main content frame it will just have 1 page output versus multiple pages as expected.
Two important points:
1) R1 (the repeating frame in M2) has Vertical Elasticity as Expand because it also contains more repeating frames under it. Problem could be solved if the R1 would have vertical elasticity as Fixed instead;
2) I also could have fixed this by having M2 (it contains a repeating frame with actual data) with Vertical Elasticity as Fixed instead of Expand. But once I do that, I get Report error M3 (frame that shows the summary at the last page) "has an illegal print condition"? Anyone know why this error occurs?
