Hiding Active Screen Corners

A while back I somehow got my Mac to show which screen corners are Active Screen Corners (a small, translucent white curve appears in the active corners), and now I want them off. The problem is, I don't remember how I got them on there in the first place. I don't want to get rid of the Active Corners, only the little things that indicate them.

Hey, gmprunner...
I don't know if you're still monitoring this topic, or if you figured it out, but I as I was reading another post about a "blue ball," and I saw information of about white "semi-circles" in the corners to indicate active corners. It and the "blue ball" are apparently hidden Dock features. Here's the entire link
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031010141631859
but to summarize... this is the Terminal command to get rid of it.
defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-showcorners -bool false
Then restart the Dock with
killall Dock

  • Active screen corners do not always respond

Sometimes, maybe due too high CPU load, or switching displays my Active screen corners do not respond.... Hitting the F9-F12 buttons do active expose, but only after re-initializing the displays (put it in other refreshrate or so), my active screen corners start reponding...
Bug? Or am i missing something?

Well, that seems to be a genuine bug, coz i've got the same thing (also after disconnecting an external display and putting my Macbook to sleep).

  • Active screen corners suddenly quits for no reason

    Friends,
Active screen corners sometimes suddenly quits on me for no reason. I'm breezing along, doing my thing and periodically moving the mouse to one corner to "show desktop" or another to show "all windows." Suddenly, moving the mouse to the corner does nothing. I can't predict when this will occur. Restarting solves the problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Steve

Are you using an external monitor, but not all the time? I get the exact same behavior sometimes when I disconnect my MacBook Pro from my external monitor and then try to activate Expose using active screen corners. It simply doesn't work. However, if I restart, everything works just fine because Leopard recognizes my laptop screen as the primary display. Seems like a bug to me, but I'm not sure. I'd like to hear from others who may know more about the issue.

  • "Active Screen Corners" no longer works. Why???

I have been using "Active Screen Corners," but it suddenly doesn't work. Keyboard shortcuts for it works, though.
    Anyone who knows why?

The 'Active Screen Corners' are written to the 'com.apple.dock.plist' file.
    /Users/yourhome/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.dock.plist
Move the file to your desktop and restart.
If that doesn't help, put the file back and restart again.
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • Exposé active screen corners - keyboard shortcuts disappear

I use e.g. the command key shortcut for activating the active screen corners (in order to avoid that they are activated when the mouse pointer is accidentally placed in one of the screen corners). It works fine and ...then one day the command key setting disappears from the settings. The active screen corners do continue to work, but simply by moving the pointer to a corner without pressing the command key. Very frustrating. What's wrong?

Simply go into System Preferences > Expose & Spaces.
Select the dropdown for the appropriate corner, press the keys you want (cmd alt ctrl & shift are possible.)
Then select the action and let go.

  • Active Screen Corners stop working without complete restart

Since I installed Snow Leopard, I've noticed a problem with my active screen corners not working. I usually only completely restart once in a while, so I usually just shut the lid at night (or when I go anywhere). with 10.5, it used to be that active screen corners always worked when I did that, but since I installed Snow Leopard, active screen corners quit working. I have to completely restart to get them to start working again.
Is there a way to fix this, or is it a bug?
    Thanks.

I tested this with a few system applications, if it helps anybody.
It also might be interesting to note that in all cases where expose won't trigger, the dock won't unhide by holding the mouse at the bottom of the screen either so long as any of the non-working applications are selected.
List of applications that also have this problem on my system:
    Textedit
    Activity Monitor
    iChat
Calculator (Unlike the other applications, the active corners don't even work on this the first time)
List of applications tested that are NOT having this problem:
    iTunes
    Safari
    Terminal
    Mail
    Address Book
    Photo Booth
    QuickTime
    Automator.
Does anybody know if the applications that are not working have anything in common? Conversely, could anybody confirm that they are NOT experiencing this problem, and that it is specific to certain system configurations, or perhaps even my system?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

  • Active Screen Corners Crashing

I don't know what's going on here, but it's super frustrating. I've set two screen corners for Expose & Spaces and they just up and stop working at random times. I've no idea what is causing this. Sometimes forcing the Finder to reboot fixes this, but not always. Sometimes restarting doesn't even fix it and I have to shut all the way down and restart.
Any ideas what's driving this behavior?

I have the same problem and the same frustration.
I have tried logging in as another user and it works o.k. The only thing is that this is an intermittent problem and logging back in as the real me fixes it too. I could spend the day as my guest user and wait for evidence that it fixed the problem but I have work to do.
The hot corners problem has been happening for months and I still can't see a pattern to what starts it. I usually restart my computer because I am lost without my hot corners. I miss them so much that I usually run Disk Warrior whenever this happens. Disk Warrior fixes most OS things. I really love it, even though doesn't seem like a lot for the money. The trouble is, when I fix this problem with DW it still keeps coming back. What stops the hot corners working in the first place?
    Where did my expose go?

  • Can Active Screen Corners Be Customised?

Hi everyone.  I currently have my top right corner set to put my display to sleep, and I was wondering whether it was possible to somehow customise these corners, in ways other than those provided in system preferences (display to sleep, screensaver, dashboard etc.).
For example, perhaps having a screen corner that triggers a keyboard shortcut, or opens an app or flicks between safari tabs?  Does anyone know of any app or terminal based system for getting results like these?
Thanks for any help you can give.

    OK, thank you.

  • ACTIVE screen corners

    Hi,
May sound minor.....but having just purchased this mac about a week ago...i was hoping it would be working perfectly....not so!!!
i had designated my top right corner to show all windows.....but that doesnt seem to work...so instead i desgnated that corner to another command...that doesnt work either.........so its actually the corner that doesnt work and not the designated command.
After restart of the computer its fine.....but not long until it is faulty again!
    Any suggestions??
    thanks

    Sorry,sorry,sorry,folks.
Problem solved.I was just moving my cursor to the corner area of the screen. You have to go virtually off the screen corner to activate this.
    Time for a coffee.

  • Active Screen Corner Disable

    Hi,
I am developing a Java program which needs Kiosk mode, I have implemented this http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2062.html , it works fine except "Active Screen Corners", suppose if I configure my top left corner through "Active Screen Corners" in the System Preferences->Dashboard & Expose to show my Desktop, even in the Kiosk mode if I move my mouse to the top left corner of the screen it goes to my desktop its because of the Active Screen Corners, Is there any way we can disable active screen corners in MAC.
    Regards
    Aravind

    John,
Thanks, that makes much more sense i was thinking it was to disable the screen saver if it was in use. I figured if they had that option there was a way to lock the screen saver from kicking out after mouse movement.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

    Wot in the world??

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

i factory unlock my iphone 3gs and was on ios 6.1.2 and updatednit to 6.1.3 with itunes and the phone got lock again at activation screen. i try downgrading to 4.1 with baseband 5.13.04 and want to upgrade back to 6.1.2. pls help me

Sorry, downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple, thus there is no official way to do so. Your phone was re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to because you hacked it to unlock it. Apple's servers detected such & re-locked your phone. You need to contact the carrier your phone is locked to if you want to get it officially unlocked.

  • Iphone I cloud activation screen (forgot apple id & password)

I shouldn't even be making this post, but i'm so frustrated. I'l do a quick summary so that I get you guys and girls up to speed on my problem.
    1. Was updating phone, random error happened and the phone needed to be backed up by itunes, the phone restarted and I was stuck at the activation screen.
    2. Was ****** off, logged in a few times got an error, until I finally discovered another email adress k********@hotmail.com. By this point I was utterly and completely confused.
    3. I got more ****** off, and I called apple. I found my phone box and gave IEMI(not sure if correct spelling) number and I told them I could provide serial number and so on and so fourth as I am the original owner.
    4. They told me I needed to send a copy of my reciept. I did not have one, so I had to travel all the way to the store and get a digital copy and send it to them. I sent it to them at around 15.00 (which is 3pm)
    5. A few hours went by and I tryed to think back to when I created my Icloud/activation I must have just wanted to use the phone so bad that I typed in whatever not thinking it would bite me in the *** 2 years later.
    6. One day has passed and I got a job interview later today, I need my phone to pay my bills, send money where money should be sent. I feel so stranded without a phone. I was using it for everything music in the gym etc etc.
How hard can it be to find an apple id? If I give somebody all the correct information, name. reciept, serial number, IEMI(not sure if spelled correctly) eventhough it was my fualt originally, bt the sheer speed of me giving them all the correct information was astounding, it took me about an hour or so to gather everything. I just want to be serviced with the same speed. I have the number for an higher up guy in the support who is handling my "case" personally and I will call him later, in an hour or two.
I wasn't even going to make this post, but after wanting to logg in with my apple id and cruise the forum.I got prompted to pick a user name. After that  I got the error message somebody is already using that email. When being logged in to _MY_ _OWN_ account. Just the sheer incompitence of the security... it's like it's backfiring on it self.
